Came in for lunch, had a tasty savory tofu curry vegan pie, fresh out of oven with a buttery-flaky crust, filled with sweet peas, cauliflower and a soft curry flavor. For dessert tried the custard pie and a flat white, nice and foamy with soy milk, great espresso; a nice compliment to the custard pie topped with nutmeg. We were looking for something nearby The Last Bookstore. Bronzed Aussie seemed intriguing and different. Since I'm always up for trying new things, we gave it a shot. I am ever so glad we did. I ordered the lamb pie and my wife had the pepper steak pie. First of all, the crust is the lightest flakiest tastiest crust I've had. It never fell apart as most do once you're half way through eating it. The meat was tender and delicious without a hint of gaminess. Having not had lamb in over 20 years, I've been missing out if it's this good! The pepper steak was tasty but not overly peppered and again, very tender. For desert, my wife had the apple pie and I had the Lamington. This is essentially if a Twinkie and a Mounds bar had a love child. It was light and scrumptious with the right amount of coconut flakes. I want this in my facehole weekly! We went back a week later to try some more flavors. This time I ordered the ground beef pie and my wife had the chunky beef pie. We also split a spinach and feta roll. First, the roll. The same light crust and the right mixture of spinach and feta. Not too heavy and not overly cheesy to mask anything. A perfect lil appetizer. The chunky beef has a gravy mixed in that blends well with the meat. The ground beef pie.....oh boy. Best description I can give is that this is what the even the best sloppy joes aspire to. The meat and sauce mixture makes the pie itself heavy to hold, but then again, it's so good you won't be holding it for long. Saving room for dessert again, we tried the custard tart and the caramel slice. The custard tart is not too sweet and had the same signature crust. It's a perfect meal topper. For something a bit sweeter. The caramel slice is a square of dark chocolate and graham cracker. Sandwiched between is a layer of caramel and condensed milk. We also had some ANZAC biscuits (on both occasions) which are big honey coconut cookies. Very thick and chewy. We also took some frozen pies home. I'm happy to report that I just finished eating a veggie brekkie pie (eggs, potato, onion, spinach, mushrooms) that tastes as good as if it was freshly made and served. No frozen taste here. The neighborhood is somewhat sketchy but the end result was so worth it. Thank you to Samantha our lovely host. We will definitely be back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! read more

When I first walked in I didn't know what to expect in terms of food, so I asked an employee what they recommended to which they said the Ground Beef Pie. Simply enough I ordered a pie and chicken noodle soup, the pie crust was the perfect ratio of flaky and buttery and perfectly complimented the savory meat. The owner, Samantha, was delightful. She greeted every customer with a cheerful "G'day!" and made coffees and doled out pies. I started with the original ground beef pie. It was outstanding! I absolutely love this place. The pies are so so yummy and addictive. Im pretty fussy and they got the pie crust just right,,,light and flakey, with a good selection of filings to suit your taste. My new favourite is the pepper steak. The espresso coffee tastes way better than starbucks and my sweet tooth gets the better me and I indulge in a coconut squares aka "lamington" as they are called down under. Don't tell my girlfriend! These pies are amazing! So savory and just the right size. You might be full after eating the "meat" type pies but don't stop there because the dessert pies are really yummy too . I am conflicted about giving the West Egg an Average or Good rating and opted to Average. The service was very good and the food was good, but in a city with SO many great food options, it was just a bit better than average. The servings were huge. I would have preferred better quality/taste and less in quantity. I might eat here again because the location is very good. read more

While I can't comment on the authenticity of it's Australianess because i'm not Australian and have never been (although I do own an Australian Cattle Dog) I can attest that these meat pies are delicious. Greeted with a friendly down under accent the owner gave us a quick run down of options and where to start if it was our first time. I highly recommend taking her recommendation and adding ketchup to the top of your meat pie. Also be sure to get the sausage roll, really tasty. She also gave each of us a free side of mashed potatoes to try. We'll definitely be returning for lunch again! read more

These are the best pies in Los Angeles! They taste so amazing and I always want more (which is a problem). Also the owner Samantha is an angel who cares so much about the Los Angeles community and especially her local community in downtown LA. I guess that's why the pies are so good, they have allot of heart behind them! If you are anywhere near downtown or even want to make it an excuse to go downtown for the day. Amazing pies, sweet or savory. So I'm told this is an Australian favorite, savory meaty pies with flaky crust. I can say that this has become my favorite pie as well. Ordered the chicken, bacon & mushroom pie which was heavenly. Chicken was nicely cooked, moist and the bacon and mushrooms gave it a really earthy and savory flavor to it. Crust was very good as well, buttery, flaky goodness that was tasty on it's own. Sweet custard tart is even more amazing than the savory ones. Very sweet, smooth and delicious. I also bought a ratatouille, and a pepper steak to take home for later, I'm having the steak for dinner and saving the ratatouille for tomorrow. I don't get to visit LA too often, but I'm definitely making a stop here when I'm in town. read more

I was made aware of this place thanks to my girlfriend. I've worked close by for a while and was disappointed at what seemed like a lack of vegan options in this area. However, Bronzed Aussie has an answer to that problem. Although this place specializes in meat pies, there are a handful of vegan options including the vegan tofu curry pie. For what it is, it was very tasty, a little 5" personal pie stuffed with tofu, garden peas, diced tomato and onion, all coated in the curry. I had that with a side of fries and it was a great, filling yet rather light meal, which is by no means a bad thing, just let it be noted that this wasn't the kind of crazy unhealthy, meat substitute that many vegans look for. Aside from the fries which needed to be cooked, The food was made and ready to go which is great, especially if you're in a hurry. As for the price, it's not particularly bad given it is a specialty that isn't normally found here in LA. Additionally, the service was excellent, the person working (whose name I forget) was very sweet and struck up conversation as I waited which is always good for the sake of good customer service. With all the above being said, this place provided me a great lunch experience and I will be sure to visit again. read more

This review is long overdue. My husband is Australian and he introduced me to the world of meat pies -- I think we visited the Bronzed Aussie within a week of its opening, we could hardly wait. We have returned several times and always have some frozen pies in our freezer for a last-minute dinner. We have introduced the little wonders to several of our friends and family members, who have all been pleased with the meat pies (my go-to is the traditional ground beef pie). We recently got married and thought of course we have to serve this Australian dish at our wedding. Sam (the owner) was so accommodating and easy to work with. We wanted to serve mini meat pies as our late night snack (mini meat pies were not on the menu, but we figured we'd ask since they sell mini dessert pies), and it was not a problem. Sam worked with my wedding planner to make sure the pies were delivered hot at 10pm. The pies were a hit (particularly with our Australian guests) and my mom was such a fan of the pies, that she tracked down Sam at my wedding and told Sam she wanted to place an order for mini pies to serve at Thanksgiving; too funny. (Note, my mom followed up and we had mini meat pies to supplement our holiday meal!) Will definitely return for more pies (our freezer stock is running low) and plan to order more mini meat pies for our next party! read more

Both pies I've tried so far were really good but I mostly just get espresso here when I'm heading out. I work it into my weekly rotation of stumptown, intelligentsia and tierra mia. They use Longshot espresso which is a local company that makes Australian roast coffee, definitely worth trying. read more

Amazing!! Been wanting to try it for a while and finally went with my bf...We shared a sausage bacon brekkie, pepper steak pie, and ground beef pie.. We ordered 3 because they looked small but it was very filling! We barely were able to finish the three. All three were really good! My favorite was the sausage bacon brekkie with tapatio of course! :) the place is a hidden gem! And when I say that... I really mean hidden because we drove back and forth a few times because there isn't a sign outside. We finally decided to just park and walk to look for it and it ended up being in a little alley with a teeny tiny sign at the entrance of the alley. I FINALLY got in to Bronzed Aussie today after wanting to go since they opened. One word can describe this little 'pie bar'....AMAZING! These pies are even better than some than you get in Australia, matching the pies that you may get from a top quality small town bakery. So fresh and tasty, with crispy pastry and beef that melts in your mouth. It was a tough decision with so many options to choose from, so I went for a standard 'chunky beef' pie and was so excited by the quality that i bought another one to take home to my boyfriend AND two sausage rolls to put in the freezer for later. Then I topped it off with lamingtons and anzac cookies for good measure. Everything tasted home made (in the good way!) and I can't wait til I can take my USA friends to try their first Aussie pies. My boyfriend is Aussie and he was missing food from home, especially ground beef pie. Thank God for Yelp, as I found this place. We were greeted by someone when we walked in, and she was incredibly friendly. We only had room in our bellies for 1 pie each, but wanted to try a few things, so we each had 1 ground beef pie and fish & chips, which also reminds him of home. We ate it with our hands and of course with ketchup. I thought the ketchup was a little weird, but my boyfriend is actually REALLY, VERY fond of ketchup and uses it for almost everything; it stemmed from eating pies. Anyway, I really like the crust. I think the crust is always the best part of the pie and this one has a solid flaky crust. I've only had 1 other ground beef pie in my life from Pie-Not. Comparing the 2, this was overall fresher tasting, and had a better crust and filling. I wish I tried a different flavor, but my boyfriend liked the ground beef a lot and it made him really happy, so this was a 5-star in our book. The fish & chips were alright. We don't remember much about them because were so into the pies. We will return again to try different pies -- the lamb pie is on the top of my list. read more
