Just finished visiting granny and took a real good look around. I found that everyone was friendly and helpful . Management was engaging and informative. Place was very clean and residents seemed very well taken care of. Most importantly granny was happy after bern here for three months. read more

My experience: Rent will rapidly creep up every month. I have been frustrated in the past because their business model is clearly to get your family member in at a rate that is acceptable and then increase it as much as possible. I have chosen today to write a review because during the Covid19 pandemic (which dementia care patients/facilities are more vulnerable to) my demented mother is seeing a rent increase of 75%... This is a time where it is difficult to move a person who needs additional care from one facility to the next and an outrageous increase like this feels nothing short of EXTORTION. The care facilitators are nice but the business end of this facility is not here for you or your loved ones but instead is intent on taking the painful burden of a horrible disease and making you/your family pay as much as possible for your misfortune... I had a childhood neighbor and friend, who left his home when his family realized it was not safe for him, physically or socially, to be at his home all day. He came here and stayed for over 6 years. Here, he made new friends, was able to socialize whenever he wanted to, played poker, miniature golf, paint, craft, of course bingo...but he didn't like bingo, listen to live entertainment, watch a movie, attend church and dance weekly. I would visit him once or twice a week, and the staff was always friendly, accommodating, safe, nurturing and knew A LOT about my friend, which in itself says a lot. He enjoyed being able to tell his stories and listen to other people tell their stories. My husband and I took him OUT to dinner once a month or so, but the food was AMAZING right there in the dining room too - lots of choices and very fresh. Delicious! Other times we would come over to his 1br/1ba/kitchen apartment and watch a game - he was a big sports fan - and he was able to host us with wine, cheese and crackers, chips and salsa and some sort of sandwich or pizza. All in all, he was VERY happy and we were happy that he lived out his days with lots of people, and things to do daily, or just hang out on his own in his own space. It is/was the best of both worlds, and with NO WORRIES for his family or friends. He has since passed away, but with smile. This place is a PERFECT balance to allow residence the choice to become involved or not, WHENEVER they want. It's THEIR choice! read more

For anyone that has had a loved one with Alzheimer's disease, you can understand the challenges and stresses that one can go through. My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013. At first we thought that she was just becoming forgetful but then she started doing odd things. She would collect sugars and jellies when we went out to eat and insist on taking them home. When we got home, she had no idea why they were in her purse and pile them up on her counters. Showers were impossible and I had no idea when she last showered. A long time ago, I promised my dad that I would keep mom home if anything ever happened to him. It had been 15 years since my dad passed away but I was determined to keep my promise. I hired in home care to be with mom and help me with things I couldn't do. I had a caregiver come in for 12 hours a day to cook, shower, etc. It was great for a while (though there have been some times where a caregiver wouldn't show up and I suddenly had to leave work because there was no one home with mom) and mom seemed to like her caregiver. Then one day, mom got out while the caregiver was in the bathroom and got lost in the neighborhood. I have never been so scared in my life! The police were called and we had everyone looking for her. My mom was eventually found 2.5 hours later. It was this incident that I realized that mom could not live at home any more, even with in home care. Brookdale Danville has been a lifesaver! The staff is really good at what they do and understand the behaviors that someone with Alzheimer's might have. They have fun activities throughout the day and my mom is able to socialize again. I see the projects they created up on the walls and even see pictures of the folks dancing! The place doesn't smell of urine and they quickly attend to someone if they have an accident (it was once my mom). The community is constructed as a circle. You will sometimes see a couple of ladies going round and round. From what I understand in my Alzheimer's support group, someone with Alzheimer's may have wandering behaviors (which was the case for my mom). The circular construction of the building allowed my mom to roam in a safe environment. Alzheimer's disease is an ugly disease with behaviors I will never understand. I am glad that I found Brookdale Danville, a place that understands the disease process and are able to handle the behaviors that I never could. We recently placed my mother in law at this Memory Care community for a respite stay. We were not quite ready to let her leave us but we wanted to do a family vacation. We knew she would be unable to keep up so we decided to take her here for a respite stay. Well my mother in law did not want to leave when we returned back and we ended up moving her in. It has been over 3 months and we can't say enough about this community and the staff. The community is beautiful and staff all always smiling and helping in anyway they can. I think this community was such a great move for her! read more

My Grandfather lived her for almost a year. I was very impressed with all of the daily social functions they had for hIm. These would consist of art, games, movies, and lots of other entertainment. The staff seemed kind and pleasant when would visit him at least once a week. His apartment was nice and spacious with a full kitchen. He could eat his own food in his room if he he did not feel like being social down stairs. The downstairs is very open with two story high ceilings. The food at the restaurant was consistently good. They also have a barber/hairdresser room onsite. Most importantly my grandpa was content. He met a lovely lady and they spent much time together at his end days. read more

Thank goodness we found Barrrington Court in Danville! The challenges our family was going through to care for our beloved Mom, who suffers from Alzheimer's was taking a toll on all of us. We had tried a larger community in Sunnyvale and the care and management there just brought us more stress. It was awful!!! Then we moved her to Barrington. The management team is so caring and understanding of what we are going through. The caregivers are always open and available to discuss my Mom's care with us. The smaller community really feels like a family. I have seen a huge change in my Mom. She's happy and well taken care of. The management team and staff do an awesome job with events and activities. Joe the chef is always interacting with family and residents and a great cook! From Tea's to BBQ's, Easter egg hunts and the list goes on. My Mom as become more social and aware of others since she as moved in. Dementia and Alzheimer's presents many challenges so thank you Barrington Ct for being there for us. read more

My husband has been at BArriington Court for over two years. I honestly do not know what I would have done without thses very caring people. MAybe the people who are compalining so not realize that management and help have been changed. Maybe some of the preople who criticize should spend some real time with their loved one. I am there almost every dya and see very few relatives coming in to visit. The people there are caring as you have to be to take care of patients with the awful disease that they havel The bad reviewsa are date one and two years ago and things have very much changed. Please come in and take a tour and see for yourself. DO not listen to the bad reviews that happened years ago. Be your own person and look at it for yourself. read more

My family tried a few options for care for our elderly mom who suffers from Alzheimer's and I am very pleased to say that the choice we made of Barrington Court in Danville has been the right one. We tried in home care and assisted living but this seems to be the best option for where mom is today in her journey. The staff and caregivers at Barrington are very professional, efficient and caring. Mom is well taken care of and her needs are met. She is kept busy and active throughout the day. Caring for patients with dementia cannot be easy but the staff is always pleasant and attentive. Any issues or questions that we might have are always addressed quickly and efficiently. Watching your loved one living with Alzheimer's is heartbreaking but the staff and caregivers at Barrington make it a little bit more bearable. read more

I moved my mother here fom Sunrise because I was very happy with the care the staff provided my mother when I placed her there at Barrington for two weeks. I have seen the difference in care and I give all the kudos in the world to the managment there because before I moved my mom to Sunrise last year I tried a short term stay there to see how she would like it. Let me tell you all something, that place was a mess!! If others from Sunrise (Danville) didnt make a shift to Barrington I would have never reconsidered the place. I tried my mom there again in January 2011. I have never been more happy with them! I am glad they got rid of the memory care director they used to have there. She was always in some one's business and getting into departments she didnt need to be in. She also got into gossip with families and even myself trying to encourage us to complain against management. I was VERY surpirsed with the wasy the building is now. My mother most importantly is doing fantastic! They have outings now for the residents and it always smells and looks clean when my husband and I visit. read more

As a health care provider, I make frequent visits to Emeritus at Barrington Court. Each time I visit, I have found the community to be clean and fresh. The staff is courteous, friendly and engages the residents in conversation. The common area is always filled with residents and the staff seems to encourage them to get out of their beds. If a resident wants to sit in the comfortable and quiet sitting area near the front door they are permitted to do so; I have visited homes where this is not the norm. Security is very well managed at the front doors to prevent wandering. They encourage health services for their residents which is important for their continued health, comfort and longevity. As a mobile dental hygienist, they welcome me and support continuing dental hygiene health for their residents and recognize that it is a convenience for the family. Bonnie S read more

My father has been at Brookdale Senior Living/Memory Care in Danville for almost six months. He is very happy living there. He loves the food, the activities, and the helpful staff. When Dad recently had an issue with severe tooth pain the staff alerted us so that we could bring him in to be assessed. There is a certified nurse on staff along with a complement of med tech staff members for administering his medications and keeping on top of any complications which might arise. Dad shares a room at the facility and gets along well with his roommate. The facility is clean, well supervised, and has a caring staff. The director of the facility, the health director, and other staff members are accessible and open for conversations about Dad's care. We are happy we made the move to Brookdale Senior Living and Memory Care in Danville, CA. read more

Thursday, November 4, 2010 Barrington Court review My husband has been a Barrington Court for almost 10 months and it has certainly been a rollercoaster ride in a non-amusement park. People's problems with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia are pretty severe here and so the staff is highly stressed. The caregiver/resident ratio is problematic, in the early mornings especially when all the residents have to me gotten up, dressed and fed. Then in the middle of the day and in the early evening, there is very little to do, other than housekeeping, and more housekeeping is certainly warranted. Almost all of the caregivers and med-techs are kind to the residents and do a very difficult job well---some are a little lax. The primary problems are; lack of a real management team, providing good direction; lack of a good set of systems of medication management; and a true understanding of the varieties of needs of all of the individuals with this dreadful disease by the corporation along with a willingness of the corporation, Emeritus, to accommodate those varying needs. There is a lot of turnover in management, much less so among caregivers. We are about to get another new nurse. I wish her well. She is only the second one during my husband's stay, but there are long stretches where there is no nurse at all, nor any administrator only people who come in sporadically from other branches for a day or two a week. It is truly bad! Falls are common, as people cannot be watched at all times, so there is always a choice of being highly medicated and therefore non-mobile or mobile, with an overall better quality of life, but at a greater fall risk. Being on blood thinners complicates the falls, for many. The corporation does not allow half side-rails on the beds, a choice more suitably made by medical personnel. Trips to the emergency rooms as a result of falls are particularly awful for these people, as they don't understand what is going on. The physical layout of the building is generally good, there is a lot of light, but it is 'cleanliness challenged' due to an almost 100% of incontinence among the residents. I certainly am hesitant to sit on any of the upholstered furniture. Also the chair arms, seats or floor are often spotted or sticky with food residue. The dining chairs are very heavy and unwieldy; some sort of wheels would help both residents and caregivers. Of course then the residents might be more likely to get up and wander away during a meal, a common occurrence, or possibly fall. There must be a good chair somewhere for these people. I suspect the laundry facilities are not up to the greater needs of this population and there is a need for more consistent use of bibs and napkins, and more of them. Plate rims might be helpful for people who are still able to feed themselves to some degree, and casseroles with small bits of food already in bite sized pieces. Spaghetti noodles are waaaay too challenging, tortellini and macaroni noodles are a better choice. Full stalks of asparagus are difficult; as is anything that needs to be cut into smaller bits by the resident, most of them are not up to it. Bread and rolls should be served with the soup and not the meal, as they are often way too dry, having no spread to moisten them. Only a small fraction of the resident population is able to participate in 'activities' such as crafts, most are severely impaired, but music is always a good choice; most people listen and enjoy. Human interaction is the best for all, but it is very hard to carry on a conversation with a person who is unable to interact, except through eye contact and touch. Care there is also quite expensive as are all Alzheimer's care choices --- Unbelievably expensive, 1 1/2 times our yearly income. Luckily we have some long-term care insurance; otherwise we would both likely be dead from the stress of dealing with this awful, awful disease. But starting today there is a new administrator---next week---the new nurse---maybe it will improve---who knows. read more

This "community" as they like to call it is horrible. Some of the patients are severe and have no physical boundaries. They touch other people, like my mom who is not severe, inappropriately and are not under control. Some of the patients are downright scary. The place stinks; you are wise NOT to sit on any of the furniture as most are incontinent and they do not clean up after the patients. The food is horrendous with no dining accoutrements; the dining is worse than sitting in a mess hall crossed with a day care center of angry three-year olds. The staff is surly and the patients are not treated like humans. Patients barge into other patient's rooms and when we told the staff that my mother's lock didn't work we were met with indifference. There is little to no management or supervision of the staff. We've had three "executive directors" in three to five weeks. Actually, the current director is only an acting director responsible for another Brookdale facility in Fremont. Run, don't walk, to another place! read more

My mother has been at Barrington Court since late January. The caregivers/staff are professional, helpful attentive and very kind. Besides having her basic needs taken care of, the staff goes over and above to keep the residents busy with activities, outings, special events etc. and we are very happy that she is so well taken care of. It means alot to us to have her in such a nice place with thoughtful caregivers and staff. read more
