A few years earlier, I'd mostly moved out of the family home on the south shore, but when we finally sold it, I needed to move some furniture, including items that had been given to me by my late mother. It was only a few pieces, so I figured I could just hire a kid with a truck. Yes, that one. It turns out that it's not really a kid with a truck, it's a moving company just like any other, except that they don't work Labor Day weekend, the busiest moving weekend of the year, and they charge just as much as the "real" movers, if not more, even though my dates were flexible. I was willing to move almost any day over a three-week span. Nothing doing, they said. We have to take a vacation. So I did what people do. I went to the community page on Facebook and asked people from the town for recommendations. Several people swore by Daley & Wanzer. Because they're a big company, and ship large households across very long distances, I didn't think they were right for my small job. But I was getting desperate and so called them. They called right back, and within hours, the rep came to the house and gave me two estimates: one for the smallish job of moving a few of my things to my condo in Boston, and a second for moving some of the remaining stuff to their storage. (Yes, they have storage, which is competitively priced.) We were in flux, with plans developing as we went, and Daley & Wanzer were totally flexible. Although they gave me two estimates, I only ended up using them to move my few pieces to Boston. I was a little worried because I didn't always hear back from them ASAP, and even though I had a verbal commitment for the date, they didn't send me a contract right away. The woman on the phone promised that it was all set. (It turned out they were out moving other people.) And she was right that I didn't need to worry. A day or two before the actual move, they sent a digital contract (and let me add a "yay!" for very old companies that adapt to the new realities, e.g. e-signing contracts). I was nervous -- it had been years since I'd hired actual movers -- but they were competent and professional and even kind. When, after the move, I've mentioned them to friends, most people nod and say, "Of course they're good. They've been around forever. They'd have to be to survive that long." And it seems to be true. Day of the move, three guys showed up on time ready to work. They had a system. When I showed them the pieces to be moved, the got to it. And they offered condolences on the loss of my mother, which was a surprise. The rep had paid attention to the impetus for my move, and passed that info to the workers, who took great care with the china cabinet, the bachelor, and other items. It felt very human, very warm, but also very competent. And when we got to the condo, I arrived first and was worried that they'd gotten lost. Again, I shouldn't have. I called the office and got one of the woman I'd spoken to before. She was professional and comforting. She contacted the movers and called me back to assure me that they were on their way. It was just me being nervous. When they arrived, they set about getting all the pieces into small doors, stairways, etc, of the condo, which was no small feat. One piece in particular, a large 3-piece custom-designed desk wasn't going to fit. I had visions of leaving it on the curb. But these three guys huffed and puffed and measured and adjusted and magically and amazingly with laughter and good cheer fit that desk and all its components into one of the bedrooms. If I ever need to move it again, I'll be calling Daley & Wanzer and asking for the same guys. They were great! read more

Deceptive and unethical business practices. For more than 30 days Daley and Wanzer was unable to provide quotes to move furniture from Hull to Lewes, DE and Portland, Maine. Then, the day before the family storage unit was to be emptied, did they provide a quote at the last minute, leaving the family with zero options on how to proceed. Dishonest and terrible way to conduct business. Thumbs down....boycott Daley and Wanzer. read more

I've used D&W twice. Once when I moved from Boston to Florida. And just recently moving my mother-in-law from Florida to RI. Both times I was given written quotes, that were accurate to the penny. Communication was excellent. Moving teams on both ends were prompt and courteous. Pricing was very competitive. I hope I never move again, but if I do, I'll only call D&W. read more

Did a local move of a few pieces of gym equipment with Daley and Wanzer. The guys did a quick and efficient job. No problem. When we finished, the bill had an add-on of an hour for a job that took 1 hour from beginning to end. A written email or estimate would have avoided an aggravated phone call. I had spoken to three people and no one ever mentioned the additional hour for "travel". If I was fore-warned, it would have been my choice. The hourly rate wasn't so low that I could just pay the extra and forget it ($190). I made the call while the guys were still here and compromised. They would do themselves a big service if they sent out a written estimate with their policies. read more

They are phenomenal, moved from outside Boston to West Palm Beach. The movers on both ends came to the house and started working immediately. They were polite and wearing their masks. I can not say enough of how easy they made this move. Shelia in the office is just great, the pricing was accurate and she answers all your calls and questions immediately. I contacted D&W t move me out of my condo on a Monday in late May and into a new home the following day. I told them the dates and they stated that they could take care of it. So they sent someone over to give me an estimate -- very nice gentleman -- and he walked around and made some notes/calculations. So he leaves and the next day I get an estimate via email. I had a question about the hours needed and emailed Marie -- she replied within 24 hours and I was satisfied with her answer. So the next day I call to book the appointment and OOPS! Sorry, we're all booked up for that day. Well, how can that be? You assured me that you had a slot for me on the dates I needed! I am not sure who I was talking to on the phone (I think it was Marie but I am not positive). She told me that she would check to see if maybe one of the appointments was not confirmed, in which case I could get that slot. She assured me that she would call me back one way or another. Well, it's been over a week and I have not heard boo from her or anyone else at Daley & Wanzer. These people were recommended to me from someone I know so I was planning to use them -- I did not even get an estimate from another company. So then I was frantic to find another company to move me. I was able to book with a reputable company but I was really put off by the way I was kicked to the curb by D&W. And no call-back like they said they would. They just didn't care, which makes me think they are not a good company to begin with. Forewarned is forearmed. I signed up with Humboldt Storage & Moving in Canton and will leave a review for them after the move has been completed. So far they have been fabulous -- came to my house, gave me an estimate, booked the date like they said they would, etc. read more

I called for an estimate for my move. An estimator came and gave me a quote that was three times more than any other quote I received. In addition they claim to have applied a huge discount. All my other estimates were about &4000 which is what I paid to move here. They quoted $12000. That's just ridiculous. read more

I cannot say enough about how helpful this company was. We needed a quick turnaround because of a roof-collapse. We had scheduled Casey movers-but they left us hanging. I contracted Daley& Wanzer to move from MA to FL. On moving day one of the "large" men took it upon himself to take possession of a pricey coffee table that was labeled for donation to Good Will. I felt I could not tell him to put it back for fear of retrobution. As they were unloading the truck in FL I noticed many boxes that did not belong to me. I had them put them back on the truck. My load had been intermingled with another. I did not get all of my belongings and called the office in MA. They were not helpful. I got the number of the FL location and found out the other load on my truck was in storage there. I asked that they look for my missing items in their storage. I got a few more of my boxes but never the rest. I would not recommend this moving company. read more

The team of movers from Daley & Wanzer who delivered my outdoor, oversized, garden mirror today were AMAZING! I live in Boston and the mirror was going in our very small interior courtyard. The engineering maneuvers this group performed in getting that huge crate through my home, onto our master bedroom deck, hoisted it OVER the railing and slid it ever so carefully down to the garden level were nothing short of perfection! Their experience clearly showed as they orchestrated this difficult and challenging task with the upmost professionalism.
