The owners and people who manage the building have been professional and friendly the entire time I have been here. The people working to keep the building clean and well maintained are also very nice and seem to be very on top of keeping the bathrooms clean and the floors and walls pristine. I have multiple clients in and out of my studio on a daily basis and the first thing that every new customer says is "this building is amazing!" While there are more affordable studio buildings in Brooklyn, Java Studios has a more professional feel and heat/AC, electricity and WiFi are all included in the price. So don't be fooled when looking at the price of other spaces as I have found that the price listed is not including any amenities and often ends up being several hundred more in addition to the listed price. Considering the level of attention and care that the management are able to offer, plus no hassle/no drama when ever I need anything from them and the fact that all amenities are included, not to mention 3 blocks from the G Train- the cost of renting a studio here is more than reasonable. I see that Java Studios has some negative reviews but as we all know, one or two people's opinion can sometimes say more about them than it does about the business... I treat people with understanding and respect and I have received nothing but understanding and respect back from everyone here at Java Studios. I carry myself and deal with people in a professional manner and I only work with other people who are able to function at a high level of professionalism such as the people who run Java Studios. I would recommend Java studios to anyone who is a serious artist/ entrepreneur and is looking for a no muss no fuss, beautiful, reasonably priced studio in a great location.

Garbage is still piling up sometimes. They have a new problem. As of this year, there is no way to pay the rent without being charged a fee for the privilege. Credit card payments are charged a percentage. ACH transfers are assessed a fee. They do not accept a paper check. I can't stand 'pay to pay' schemes. It would definitely be illegal if this were residential rent, but because it's commercial, I'm not sure.

And, if the studio owner was someone other than Rebecca I just might have. But I can't and here's why... First off, the space if beautiful. Much of the original architecture is intact and it dates back to the 19th century (for real). If you're looking for a very unique space to shoot in, you'd be hard pressed to find better. The studio is on the top floor of the building and has a very large window that faces a courtyard and get's excellent natural light. It's very clean, spacious and there's great gear to rent at reasonable prices. I shot an editorial and two headshot clients there today and already want to make it a second home. Then there's the studio's owner, Rebecca. She's a gem. She couldn't have done more to make me feel at home and was always available to make sure I had everything I needed for my shoots. As a very well established photographer herself, she understands how important it is to get the shots you need and I haven't encountered a studio owner more warm, helpful and professional than her. The studio just opened and if you've taken the time to read this review Ruby Bird is a place you'll want to foster a relationship with as soon as possible. The rooms vary in size and have a lot of personality - some with bright windows and all with high ceilings. The building is handicap accessible with ramps and elevators. Prices are the most reasonable we've found in NYC. The staff is personable, professional and helpful. I love the vibes here, great little lobby / kitchen to heat up food, take a quick meeting or get some work done. Clean restrooms. Love this place!

I would recommend to any charity looking for decent budget space. It was a smaller cozy place, good for less than 60 people standing including 20 people or so sitting. The venue was safe and clean space for us to use. It was easy to setup and put things back when it was time. On to the owner of the space -- I felt that Nyssa, went above and beyond to make sure the event was a success! She was helpful with all details, prompt and great to work with. She is a very kind and down to earth person who cared about our efforts in this event. In the future I hope to host another SAAM event. Of course, if need to a venue like this again, being it's not booked up. Nyssa's The Living Art Gallery will be my go and the main place I'd ever recommend to anyone in need of a venue. This multi-funtional space holds a variety of classes and special events. I attended one of their…read more"Drink and Draw" classes - Two hours of drawing instruction with a live nude model and three glasses of wine! A class of Picassos in the making depending on how quickly you take the glasses down :) Unfortunately the model did not show, but we were given a clothed model instead which was fine by me as a beginner. All supplies were included, paper, coal, pencils, pastels etc and it was a really fun, welcoming environment. The best part was that later that night, unbeknownst to us, there was an open mic planned with incredibly talented spoken word poets, rappers, etc. We stayed the whole night and were so inspired! Very cool!
