Garbage is still piling up sometimes. They have a new problem. As of this year, there is no way to pay the rent without being charged a fee for the privilege. Credit card payments are charged a percentage. ACH transfers are assessed a fee. They do not accept a paper check. I can't stand 'pay to pay' schemes. It would definitely be illegal if this were residential rent, but because it's commercial, I'm not sure.

The owners and people who manage the building have been professional and friendly the entire time I have been here. The people working to keep the building clean and well maintained are also very nice and seem to be very on top of keeping the bathrooms clean and the floors and walls pristine. I have multiple clients in and out of my studio on a daily basis and the first thing that every new customer says is "this building is amazing!" While there are more affordable studio buildings in Brooklyn, Java Studios has a more professional feel and heat/AC, electricity and WiFi are all included in the price. So don't be fooled when looking at the price of other spaces as I have found that the price listed is not including any amenities and often ends up being several hundred more in addition to the listed price. Considering the level of attention and care that the management are able to offer, plus no hassle/no drama when ever I need anything from them and the fact that all amenities are included, not to mention 3 blocks from the G Train- the cost of renting a studio here is more than reasonable. I see that Java Studios has some negative reviews but as we all know, one or two people's opinion can sometimes say more about them than it does about the business... I treat people with understanding and respect and I have received nothing but understanding and respect back from everyone here at Java Studios. I carry myself and deal with people in a professional manner and I only work with other people who are able to function at a high level of professionalism such as the people who run Java Studios. I would recommend Java studios to anyone who is a serious artist/ entrepreneur and is looking for a no muss no fuss, beautiful, reasonably priced studio in a great location.

Ok here's the deal. I'm a bit reluctant to write a review for Ruby Bird Studio because, selfishly,…read moreI'd like to keep it to myself and be able to book it whenever I like. And, if the studio owner was someone other than Rebecca I just might have. But I can't and here's why... First off, the space if beautiful. Much of the original architecture is intact and it dates back to the 19th century (for real). If you're looking for a very unique space to shoot in, you'd be hard pressed to find better. The studio is on the top floor of the building and has a very large window that faces a courtyard and get's excellent natural light. It's very clean, spacious and there's great gear to rent at reasonable prices. I shot an editorial and two headshot clients there today and already want to make it a second home. Then there's the studio's owner, Rebecca. She's a gem. She couldn't have done more to make me feel at home and was always available to make sure I had everything I needed for my shoots. As a very well established photographer herself, she understands how important it is to get the shots you need and I haven't encountered a studio owner more warm, helpful and professional than her. The studio just opened and if you've taken the time to read this review Ruby Bird is a place you'll want to foster a relationship with as soon as possible. With a shortage of top notch yet affordable studios in NY, this one is sure to be in every high demand. Thank you, Rebecca, for a great experience! I'l be back lots.

The park was very quiet- not a whole lot of activity. It seemed at one point, it was a place bustling with energy. The Contemporary museum was closed and appeared empty inside. The Secret garden was non existent- the entrance was boarded up and the building stored chairs etc. When I think of a healing garden- what comes to mind are water features and rock gardens. This healing garden consisted of trails through large open green spaces. No water features. Throughout the park, most , not all, green areas were maintained. Things could be cleaned up among some of the gardens and weeded. Kinda sad.. The info booth and restaurant was open. Don't think we'll return...

I really was so warmly welcomed here and they were eager to help answer any questions and just engage with some of the key points. So many charming things used to learn today. From mastodons of which you can enjoy seeing a 10-foot-tall mastodon sculpture : a woolly mammoth-looking creature which once roamed the hills of Staten Island in prehistoric days. Learn about the industries that thrived in this area for example, their chewing gum factory, the terra-cotta factory & ceramic factory. Such wonderful things created for people to enjoy, however, the Freshkills area and then to see all the years and years worth of efforts made to clean up the area and make it safe and beautiful and a wonderful habitat once again. It was nice to see that it's treated as a beautiful treasure. Grateful to the women who lead the groups that were very persistent in this endeavor. I loved seeing the erasure poetry activity.. where are we made poetry by blocking out the letters that were the writings of the museum's kind founder William T. Davis. Reconstructing his writing.. it's a wonderful little game that takes you slowly into his thoughts and his love and reflections of his town. I'm happy to learn about the founder of this museum and how he took care of all the sailors by constructing these buildings and giving them a home after a lifetime of working hard on the ships Very thankful for all the hard-working people that keep this wonderful story alive and in the minds of everyone lucky enough to venture this way.
