Came here for a Mitski concert on a chilly and rainy Tuesday. It's right next to the Vessel in Hudson Yard. The building is beautiful. The concert hall has an area in the back with seat. After standing for a few hours, I really regretted not getting a ticketed seat for myself. So in the future, I'm glad that I have that option. Once you enter The Shed, you take the escalator upstairs to get to the concert hall. At the end of the concert, the doors open and lead you out right next to The Vessel so I thought that was a nice visual perk at the end of the concert. I hope I get a chance to come back and get to walk around the place and see a little bit more of it. read more

Located in Hudson Yards, it's near the Vessel and other attractions unique to this developed area. Now showing--This World of Tomorrow with Tom Hanks. Theater review: seating was 3 escalator flights up where most seats were good ones. Comfortable folding style chairs with the theater exhibiting good lighting and audio. There was a mobile bar during intermission that offered wine, water and soda for purchase. I didn't see any merchandise for sale. Production review: When I learned Tom Hanks would be performing Off Broadway in "This World of Tomorrow", I was eager to get tickets. Although the production is Off Broadway, the prices were definitely Broadway and no surprise there with headliner Tom Hanks--one of my top favorite actors of all time--in the starring role. The play takes place in the year 2089 and is all about time travel with Hanks' character--Bert--traveling back to 1939 during New York's World Fair. Without giving anything away, the storyline explores themes on falling in love, technology and what makes life meaningful. We really enjoyed the production which runs through December 21. Overall, it received positive reviews. Some were mixed and in my opinion, I thought the play should have been shaved down by 20 -30 minutes (it was 2 hours + 15 min with intermission). The SHED in Hudson Yards is a wonderful addition to NYC's ever growing theater scene. We saw Ralph Fiennes at the SHED in Straight Line Crazy in autumn of 2022. Story of the powerful Robert Moses who took New York by storm for decades, 1920s to the 1960s. Most of the highways and parkways extending up through Westchester and out east to Long Island were his design. The venue is well designed with comfortable plush seats. Plenty of legroom unlike the old Broadway theaters. The prices are good as well. Enjoy the new season! read more

I'd looked at the Shed from the outside several times (kind of hard not to stop and take a picture of its exterior architecture when you're passing by), but I hadn't visited it to experience a program it offered until last weekend. So what's the Shed? It's a cultural arts center. It hosts a wide range of programs - performing arts, visual arts, and more. And why have I stared at it so many times? The Shed's building has a shell - weighing eight million pounds!!! - made of a fluorine-based plastic. The shell can open and close (it takes five minutes), meaning the building can become an open-air plaza depending on the needs for the program (I've never seen it open). It retracts on eight 6-foot wheels, and the shell looks like a plastic comforter. It's hard to explain. When I just visited it was to experience Viola's Room, one of their current programs. Viola's Room is even harder to explain than the Shed's architecture (go to their website and read about it if your interest is piqued), but I'll just say that it was one of the most unique and interesting immersive/sensory art experiences I've ever taken part in. The feeling of "WHAAAAAAAAAAT" lasted well after the one-hour experience was over, and I called someone right after to tell them everything. New York is one of the world's great art cities. It offers so much to residents and to visitors - performing arts, visual arts, public art... The Shed offers something new and different to the city's art landscape. But even if you're not coming to experience one of their programs, stop by to take in that shell. read more

Arrived at The Shed yesterday afternoon to check out the Luna Luna Forgotten Fantasy exhibition. It was awesome. Learned so much from this exhibition, the space itself was huge and showcasing what we could see and experience the Art and music come together. It was peaceful and fun. There is a café on the first floor before you go up the escalators. Then another café on the 4th floor too. The Luna Luna Forgotten Fantasy exhibition ends on March 16th. The Shed is a great space to check out and see what else is next to exhibit. read more

After the initial news of the Shed's opening in 2019, press for it died down, at least in the corners of the internet I frequent. I had all but forgotten it existed until a friend suggested we go to one of their interactive exhibits. There's a cinematic theater in which they invested heavily in the acoustics, visuals, and space. I was sober and felt completely immersed, but for those who want a little help, there's a bar in the lobby when you first enter. More recently they had the Luna Luna exhibit, with a beautiful carousel and ferris wheel built up to towering heights and outfitted in dazzling lights. An exhibit like this is equally entertaining for adults as it is for kids, which is an impressive feat. I'm going to check back for their upcoming summer program, which they've been hyping for a while. I think it'll be an exhibit worth seeing. read more

The Shed is one of New York's newest theaters that's part of the development of Hudson Yards near 34th Street and the Hudson River. It was conceived snd financed by Michael Bloomberg and developed while he was New York City's mayor. We have seen great concerts as well as wonderful theatrical productions. read more

We went to The Shed to see Sir Kenneth Branagh's King Lear. From what I understand, The Shed is a mixed-use space for art installations, showcasing new media and artists, and more. Finding where to go for the play was a bit confusing. We were just told to go "downstairs." After that, I went to the box office, showed my tickets, and explained that we'd been directed "downstairs." The person at the desk confirmed our tickets were valid and directed us to a line for the sixth floor, but she seemed to assume we already knew the layout. As a first-time visitor from out of town, I didn't. If you arrive early or want to stay after your show, there's a bar in the lobby--a nice touch for a pre-show or post-show cocktail. The venue itself is large, with elevators and escalators. We used the escalator to reach the sixth floor for the play, where there are also restrooms--convenient! Seating is pretty good no matter where you are, but bring a light jacket or pashmina, as it gets chilly inside. The play was outstanding, and it's a great venue. I became a member to get first dibs on good seats for King Lear. If I lived closer, I'd definitely take more advantage of the membership, as there are a lot of cool things happening here. Plus, the surrounding Hudson Yards area is impressive, with The Vessel right outside. read more

The Shed is accessible via 7 public transportation that includes the 7 train to the 34 Street Hudson Yards station. The Shed is within walking distance from the Vessel, Dining / Rooftop Restaurant Electiric Lemon athe Equinox and from the Shops & Restaurants @ Hudson Yards. The Shed has a couple of floors along w/ a giftshop, elevator accessibility, clean bathrooms, and a casual / trendy dining establishment named Cedric's on the lower level. Highlights at The Shed have included the following: 1. Tony Cokes / Oscar Murillo Collision Coalition Exhibit. 2. Open Call 2022 & Open Call 2023 Group Art Exhibitions - had new works of art created by emerging NYC artists. 3. Activist/Artist/Professor Howardena Pindell's "Rope/Fire/Water" Exhibit (video works presentation). 4. Workshop w/ Artist Ladisasha Jones. 5. Tionna Nekkia McClodden's "The Trace of An Implied Presence" - video/art/live dance & performance presentation. 6. The Shed is a cool building that has some pretty cool exhibits. The one that is there now is Luna Luna. The space is spacious and has a few floors to it. There are escalators and there probably is an elevator but I am not sure. In the main entrance way there is a big sitting area with a nice bar that I believe serves bar snacks along with drinks obviously. The chairs and couches in this area are comfortable. Tickets for exhibits here are on the higher side and there are no discounts for NYC residents. Some museums do this. I also found out yesterday that there is a 15.00 fee to change tickets. I got a ticket for the luna luna exhibit on Thursday but thought it was for yesterday (Friday) and so I asked to change and there was the fee. And then also I had to pay more since here Friday is considered weekend ticket prices not weekday. So this part and the change fee kinda put a damper on my visit . read more

Great venue! Close to Hudson Yards, parking is hard for my NJ family. Recommend to take ferry, bus or subway to get there. There is a lounge area by entrance with bar/couches/light bites. Currently the venue is hosting the Luna Luna exhibit. Great venue, organized and clean. They sell a membership that did not convince me, but worth checking out if you go often. read more

Came to The Shed with friends to check out Sonic Sphere given all the hype on how cool this was going to be. Paid $60/pp for The XX which of course was the hottest ticket as it was constantly sold out but we were able to get a slot when new dates opened up. Overall, the experience was just ok. Yes it was cool to it sit above ground in a sphere to listen to music and watch the lights change in sync. But 40 minutes of just listening to the original album was a disappointment. Had expected more out of the experience overall. We were able to sit in the middle of the center net (hoping not to fall through the entire time) vs sitting in the seats. Seating is first come first serve. Please note that there are flashing lights so so may not be suitable with anyone who suffers from epilepsy or bad migraines... Use the restrooms before you enter the sphere as no exit until the end of the event. Also, keep small items in a bag as they may fall through the sphere and onto the ground below. Definitely can say that I checked it out... read more

Wow! Great BIG space. Wish we were hungry, we could have tried the restaurant on the man floor. Beware it is many floors up to theatre where we saw Tom Hanks' play, but they have escalators. Theatre is huge, if a little sterile. Beware of your seat numbers, space is so big we did not expect to be so far back as we always try to sit in the first 10 rows. Luckily, we were able to move down at intermish and had a much more enjoyable experience for act two! I hate to admit it, but I kept dozing off in act one! read more

On Friday, I saw one of the preview shows of KAGAMI, a mixed reality concert experience that is a collaboration between the late Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tin Drum. It was held in the Griffin Theater, which is at the top floor/level 6 of The Shed. KAGAMI is a 50 minute experience where you are enclosed in the performance space with about 80 other attendees, wear a headset for the VR/AR experience, and can - if you wish - move about the space during the surround sound, concert performance. We purchased tickets weeks before. When we got to The Shed, we waited a little bit at Cedric's on the ground floor for doors to open for our scheduled show time. During doors, attendees were guided into a waiting area where images of Sakamoto and film footage were projected on the walls. (Also, in the waiting area, if you were an attendee that required a special headset due to corrective lenses, there was a station that did fittings for you - note - there's a limited number of these special headsets). Once it got close to showtime, doors on one side of the waiting area slid open. Attendees were guided into a room with about 80 chairs set up in a circle, surrounding a performance square in the middle. Once you took a seat, tech staff handed your headset and gave instructions on how to use the set, what to do during the performance, and where to go if there were any tech difficulties. Considering the number of attendees and the short amount of time they had to get everyone one in and settled, Shed staff were all friendly. The show was a cool experience. Once I got acclimated to the equipment and to what was happening, it truly was a uniquely immersive experience and very moving. It's particularly special as Sakamoto passed away a few months ago; you could tell there were some fans in the audience. However, even if you aren't a fan, I would recommend seeing the show if you're at all curious about his work or music (KAGAMI runs until July 2nd). read more

The Shed at Hudson Yards now has thirty food vendors on Wednesdays and Thursdays which is part of Smorgasbord. It began yesterday and runs through late August. I came here today. On each day there are different food vendors. I feasted on chicken yakitori which Aya gave me which was finger licking tasty. Then I had a beef empanada with cilantro mayo that was mildly spicy. Lastly I ate a Jamaican Jerk Pork Taco with a heaping helping of diced pineapple. Both Emily and Chrisann were charming to talk to. Seating is in the middle with no shade and I broiled for a while but still took my time enjoying each bite. Wipes and chilled water is essential here. Quite a few people were imbibing chilled drinks and cones of French fries. The best part was that I had a ring side view of The Vessel. read more

I had not heard of this space yet, but I'm so happy I got to see a show here for the first time today! This is an awesome performing arts venue with multiple floors. They even have a cafe/bar area with seating downstairs! We saw Cecily Strong in "The Search for Signs of Intelligence in the Universe." As SNL fans, we were so excited to see her perform in such an intimate venue! The play was super fun and she was incredible in it. The facility itself was really nice! The bathrooms were very clean and large. The actual theater was a good size for an off-broadway house. The seats weren't super comfy, but they were roomy which I appreciate. I look forward to coming back and seeing more shows here! read more

I came here to check out the sonic sphere after seeing multiple posts about it online, especially since I love to check out new digital art/music experiences. However, it didn't really live up to the hype. I'm not sure if the music was too abstract.. but the flashing lights and the seating area (netted) was not comfortable. Fair disclosure they do put a disclaimer about avoiding this kinda display if you have epilepsy. My eyes were twitching trying to keep up with all the sensory displays going on.... not a great time. The space itself can lend itself to cool exhibits I suppose but the concert hall is not something I would go back to check out. I have a friend that loved it and is going back to a second showing but I can't say the same for myself. I may consider coming back for art or cultural exhibits, but not for the sonic sphere. read more

Saw a fine play with terrific acting. Full stop. That said, we were given tickets at box office that wouldn't scan at theater entrance. They wanted us to go down four floors to get another pair but then decided to give us new tickets at theater entrance. The tickets they gave us weren't a pair and as a result the amplification device they gave us earlier, which was linked to a specific seat, didn't work. I've been to high school plays where the folks running the show did a better job than the incompetents at The Shed. read more

The shed has no customer service. They don't answer their phone or reply to their emails. It's appalling. We attended a matinee of Lear (sorely disappointing but that was Kenneth's fault) and my 80 yo mother accidentally left her phone by our seat. Possibly sucked into their bizarre seats. We'd only gotten two blocks away, So We came right back but they wouldn't let us enter the theatre to retrieve it. We asked if they would have a clean up crew get it. They said sometime in the next 4 hours. We delayed our trip home to Pennsylvania for that time but when we returned they still hadn't found it. I was told to call to follow up. I did. The outgoing message said to email. I did. 4 times in 8 days. Still no response. Expect similar service if you attend. Or who knows, maybe they'll respond to this. read more

Absolutely loved this place! So check this out .. I came here randomly tonight while walking around the highline and was absolutely blown away by the shear size and liveliness of the space. There was giant chess, dancing, incredible views and tons of people having a blast outdoors. If you ever are looking for a free and unique afternoon activity, I highly suggest The Shed. Loved the inside and the outside of this art building. We came yesterday to see the Drift interactive exhibit. Loved the Drift exhibit very much and we enjoyed every minute of it. We also went to the Ian Cheng's animation film on the 3rd floor and it was innovative but it wasn't something we liked. If you are coming here from 7 train station at Hudson Yards, this museum is easy to find. However, I was at 9th Avenue and 33rd street; I was lost how to get there. A dog walker was going that way, she walked me to the corner block of the museum. When you walk in, someone comes up to take your temperature. Then, you go to the tickets booth. Afterward, you scan it at their machine. It was a small exhibit. I do have to warn you about the documentary that is shown in their small theater setup. It was about a burning of a corpse. It was quite graphic when the narrator described it. I have mixed feelings about this gallery. It's a great space. However, I felt if there were more artworks, it would had been better. I don't think it worth $10 admission ticket. read more

I'm definitely not the sharpest (or artsiest) tool in the shed, but The Shed (at Hudsons Yards) was a wonderful host for the Fragile Future immersive exhibition of kinetic installations by DRIFT. Timed ticket entry and COVID-19 safety protocols made for a smooth experience while friendly team members on each floor and the busy, but chill cafe/bar added to a relaxing and inspiring exploration of the Shed. The massive 4-story space called The McCourt was a cool setting for the lights, music, and movement of 5 giant blocks suspended above the viewers as part of the 30-minute Drifters Experience (Fragile Future, DRIFT - 2021). Also, the The Shed's Level 4 Gallery was a cool theater affair to view Ian Cheng's 48-minute anime series called Life After Bob built using the Unity game engine and AI-driven characters. Even though The Shed is a non-profit organization to shed light on all disciplines of art in New York City, it definitely wasn't cheap at $35 per person. Luckily, the art exhibits and overall experience was worth the time and funds to make me a little sharper and artsier in the shed. read more

The Shed hosted early voting for my district. Second time voting there. It is very spacious, organized and clean. Staff is very helpful. Upon entering there is a livingroom like public space located in front of a bar that opens later in the day. The public space is available to the public at 11 AM, according to staff. I also read that a section of the building literally moves. Highly recommend. read more

A large art gallery/event space with elevators that don't work well, so they had us take the escalators that go up two flights at a time. I thought it was new... not sure why already the elevators didn't work well. So we went up to the 8th floor. A large room for meetings or displays, we had a Thought Leadership event and they had audio/sound, a huge screen and a couple bar areas for mingling all set up, that was nice. The entry off the little Hudson St loop or the 30th St area, but not the area closest to the mall, if you're wondering. Exhibit spaces inside tall and open, could be used for many kinds of art. Whether or not a good use of the rolling wheels, I get the feeling this will get less entertaining/used and simply be a photo op in the future. The building is nice, though. read more
