My head was on a SWIVEL ready for someone bursting through a door with an axe. I was completely lost looking for "Room #4," and began to spiral. I soon realized that I just took the wrong elevator, and found the room pretty easy once I took the correct elevator lol. Once I gathered my composure and found Room #4, I could finally appreciate how stunningly beautiful this place was. It is like an Oligarch's MANSION straight from the 19th century. It's tasteful luxury, when luxury meant more than just cookie cutter modern architecture. They had an open bar and some bomb horderves all night, with my favorite being this fresh tuna on top of a cucumber. I ate like 30 of them. Me and the lady in a tuxedo walking around with the tray became well acquainted. I honestly have no real idea what this place is, but I imagine it's a members only club where the rich and famous gather to make important decisions. That's the vibe at least. Kinda eerie. Reservations are a must. Strict dress codes are adhered to so be mindful of that or you will be asked to enter at a different entrance or even turned around. The coat check was very prompt and all business, multiple staff members that run this, keeps the line moving. No tipping necessary and there's a sign to tell you it's forbidden. There's even a seating area and cubbies for you to stow away things you don't want to bring into the event. Elevators lead to multiple floors and separate private halls or rooms for your event. I couldn't really take photos given it was my company party but I will tell you, the hor d'oeuvres and dinner didn't disappoint. There was even a bartender dedicated to our party. So throughout the evening, we were able to get cocktails and wine. During dinner, it was a seamless service. Appetizers and entrees came out to every table as if by clockwork. There was a nice pause between dinner and dessert time. The staff turned over the tables swiftly without any interruption to our speeches and social interaction. Coffee and dessert was presented, each cup filled by a server per table, again, white gloves and jackets all through the evening. I definitely felt welcomed and everyone was hospitable.

Both of us are visibly pregnant and it was over 90 degrees outside. To take a break from the heat, we decided to grab lunch at the club. The dining room was completely empty, but they wouldnt let us in because despite being dressed in nice dresses, i had white tennis shoes on and my friend had a nice pair of black leather sandals (still dont understand why sandals would be banned!) and our luggage was checked at the coat closet on the first floor. So we left and I wont be back.

I agree with all the filtered reviews - the events are pricey, haphazardly planned and full of her guy friends. I stopped going well before my membership was up.

Historically, the 143 year-old building was formerly a gold-leaf factory and high-end funeral parlour. The interior is designed to reflect the gritty, artistic history of the Lower East Side. Upon further exploration, of the club's four stories of rooms, we notice an eclectic mix of vintage pieces mostly salvaged from local vintage and consignment shop finds with unique artwork on display. The plush "Velvet Room" used for private screenings, was inspired by the apartment where Lou Reed and John Cale recorded early music demos, thus "the Velvet Underground" reference. The club itself is wonderful, a piece of history located in midtown, near Korea Town and right next to the American Bar Association (shout-out to the lawyers reading this post). My only regret is that I didn't call ahead to reserve a guest room for my stay, given that overnight guests get full use of the Palestra for their workouts. Honestly, I felt like their service to reciprocal members was distasteful. Several times staff were like who are you in an accusatory manner when we had permission to be there. It left a really bad taste in my mouth. We walked into this building and the lady up front pressed the button to go up to the top of the building. The place has 2 restaurants. The top restaurant has an amazing view of the city from the terrace. I would have loved to sit out there and eat if it wasn't winter and wasn't closed. The bottom restaurant offered a pretty overpriced breakfast. I paid 20 bucks for toast and a coffee (which is insane). The toast did have an awesome strawberry jam. The place also has a nice lounge area, movie theater, and a hair studio. The place has a gym that has a great view of New York. The place doesn't offer a lot of gym equipment, however. There is also a meditation room and bathroom that has a sauna.
