I have to raise an eyebrow at any office that charges you an $89.00 fee for your first visit. They call it a 'consultation' for which they can't/won't bill insurance. Never, ever experienced a doctor's office of any kind doing this. Ever, anywhere. And even before that, they told me I have to come in for them to even be able to tell me if they'd take my insurance - they wouldn't take my policy number, run it themselves and let me know?!? That I had to come in to get information on what my policy covers? Uhhhhhh, no. Sounds like a sales floor to me. Even though I've walked by this place hundreds of times, it never occurred to me to stop in and see what they offered until recently. A friend and I were looking to get professional, quality massages without the hype and ambiance of most spas (does anyone else think it's weird to have candles and mood lighting for a stranger to massage you??). On a whim, we tried Brooklyn Integrative and I'm so happy we did. My massage from Bianca was simply amazing. We asked for deep tissue massages and boy did she deliver. She really knew how to work pressure points and checked in throughout to see how I was feeling. I would definitely ask for Bianca the next time I schedule a massage. This place also offers acupuncture (that will be my next adventure), physical therapy, chiropractic, and nutritional guidance. While I was there, I signed up for personal training with Essam. It was totally spontaneous, but I think I did it because I felt so comfortable and welcomed there. I'm only a few weeks into my training, but so far I'm enjoying it and have already seen results (better posture, looser jeans). Essam is knowledgable and encouraging, and he made sure to cater a routine that works for me and my lower back issues. I have been a client at Dr. Huml's Brooklyn Integrative Health Care for over a year. I started for chiropractic care of my back pain. He took X-rays, an in depth history and physical exam and developed a personalized treatment plan. He looks at the person as a whole and clearly explains how the body and external sources all effect the body, both in a good way and a not so good way. He offers class in nutrition, meditation, stretching Nd more all of which have been very beneficial. He has a pleasant beside manner, is encouraging and non-judgemental. The office itself is neat, clean, bright and welcoming. The office manager, Agnes, runs a tight ship and keeps things flowing smoothly and is always available to resolve any scheduling or other concerns. I continue to see Dr. Huml every one to two weeks for maintenance or more often for any acute issues. In addition, I have been working with a wonderful personal trainer, Essam Haddad, who has made a world of difference in my life. Having never been an athlete or into regular exercise before, it is a testament to Essam that I attend his personal training classes at Dr.Huml's three times a week and have done so for a year! Essam is outstanding, skilled, knowledgeable, caring, attentive and respectful of everyone. Dr. Huml's gym is small but well equipped, well maintained and feels very comfortable, especially for an overweight, out of shape, over 65 year old woman like me. I must clarify and say that since starting at BIHC,I am in the best shape I have ever been. It is a fun place to go and walk away feeling stronger and in better shape each and every time!! Another bonus at Dr. Huml's office is the availability of therapeutic massage which he highly recommends and is top notch and "the best" Physical Therapists, Tony and Frances, from Optimum Health Care, right in the same place. I have been going to see Dr. Huml for over 15 years and consider him and his knowledge of health and healing to be a great blessing in my life. His staff are wonderful and he is always upbeat and a pleasure to be with. His chiropractic adjustments keep my body happy and healthy and his nutritional counseling and kinesiology/muscle testing tells me what vitamin supplements are best for me and how much of them to take and for how long. Most people have no real idea of their body's needs and if the supplements they are taking are even doing them any good at all. Most recently, a chronic pain in my lower back disappeared because of his suggestion that I try not sleeping on my stomach. Prior to that, because of his suggestion that I take a very specific type of urine test, I discovered that I had heavy metal toxicity - and then he helped me with the protocol for getting rid of the heavy metals naturally with the least amount of stress on my body. Dr. Huml and the entire staff at Brooklyn Integrative Health Care are absolutely the best! I have gone to Dr. Huml for a variety of problems, mostly to do with my back, for over twenty years. I even brought my children to him for alternative medicine treatments, and he cured my younger child's scoliosis by adjustments and proper exercise. I have strong faith in him, and last year, when I was feeling tired, achy and severe pain in my knee and back, I decided to go back for treatment. Besides providing me with chiropractic care, supplements, and nutritional advice, Dr. Huml had added two new services: a personal trainer named Essam Haddad, and massage therapists. The massages are great, but the best addition was Essam! I started training with him over a year ago and I feel great. I used to be a gym rat when I was younger, but had caused injuries to myself from improper training. Essam pays close attention to the proper mechanics of weight training and cardio workouts, and isknowledgeable, professional and patient with his clients. Best of all, he makes workouts fun! I look forward to my training sessions as one of the highlights of my week. Essam takes into consideration physical limitations, but still pushes and supports his people to achieve excellent, and sometimes surprising results. I recently retired from my job as a teacher, and now, under Essam's training, I have the time to run and I consider myself a runner. I completed a 5K last month, and I never thought that would be something I could do. Additionally, the atmosphere is friendly, supportive and fun, and I count people I have met at training and on staff at Dr. Huml's among my friends. I have been coming to Brooklyn Integrative Health Care on and off for many years, as have many members of my family. About a year ago, while in the midst of attending graduate school for a career change, I started undergoing fertility treatments that took a negative toll on my body. I always felt sick, dizzy, and tired, and I just lacked a sense of well being and stability. My mom recommended that I go back to BIHC to see Dr. Huml and his staff. I began getting regular chiropractic adjustments from Dr. Huml, and he also recommended a nutrition plan for me. Within weeks, I felt like myself again. The change was incredible. In fact, I felt more "myself" than I had in years! Dr. Huml has a very holistic, comprehensive approach that considers the whole person, and is based on not only medical history, but symptoms and future wellness goals. Around the same time, I began working with Essam Haddad, the personal trainer at BIHC. Essam is simply amazing. The small group training classes are fun, but the workout is vigorous. He is encouraging and tailors each person's workout routines to their personal goals, not to mention the challenging, yet achievable, goals he sets for each of his clients. Essam also succeeds in creating a real sense of community among his clients. I have gotten to know many other people who workout there, and would could many of them among my friends. Not only that, but I have also seen tremendous results. Although I had worked out before coming here, I was very sporadic and often relied on exercise classes (such as spinning and step aerobics) because I was uncertain on how to train with weights. Now, a year later, my body is doing amazing things. I can lift weights, run, and perform push ups. I feel strong, and have an amazing amount of energy. I work out 2-3x/week with Essam and run on my own 2-3x/week on my own, and I'm training for my first 5K in August! Really awesome wellness center. I was trying to shed the 30 pounds I gained during my pregnancy so I signed up for their 8 weeks to wellness program. I lost about 22 pounds so far so have a few more to go. The most important thing is that I got toned and lost some cellulite.
