Destination restaurant and it's a good drive out there. We drove mid October and the fall leaves were gorgeous. We drove through Oakville and got to experience the logging roads. The bar is rustic, has a good vibe and a ton of antique logging items to look at. You can bring your dog, and your dog can sit in a stool at the bar. There were probably 4 dogs at one point. You'll want to bring a dollar bill to sign and put on the wall. Billiards is free to play. You'll need to check out the bathrooms with the nudie pics..."I'm gonna be in here a while," I yelled to my cousin. The Saginaw Days happens in September which sounds like a fun family outing. The owner was a hoot. Said "that's the lying corner over there," pointing to a bunch of regular locals. They've owned it for about 4 years and left it the way it was. If you ask the owner to tell you the history, he will. It used to be a gas station 100 years ago. Mentioned a gentlemen who is 90 years old living in the house he was born in. There is an old bell that someone can ring when they want to buy the house a round of drinks. Bell came off an old steam engine. Before it was horse and buggy, donkeys, then it quickly modernized. When Saginaw Logging pulled out, it was the last of the big logs. They then started pulling out the train rails, as the wood trestles started rotting anyway, then sold the metal as scrap. They still do a lot of logging up there M- F so got to be careful when on the road. They put in Snoose Creek (the water trough by the bar) for the loggers to spit in. They couldn't smoke in the woods, bunkhouse, mess hall, etc. so loggers took to chewing tobacco. The tough guys just go ahead and swallow, the rookies would chew and spit. You'll see bottle caps in the parking lot as loggers used to throw them down to get grip on the wet muddy grounds for their trucks. It's a good hunting area. All the roads used to be open, but Warehouser, Park Blakley and others started locking their gates. The hunters have to pay $300 to get a key for the gate to go in now, so not as many hunters these days. We did dinner at Clark's restaurant on the way out. Good hamburgers and shakes. read more

The oddest bar I've ever been to. Nice patrons, friendly service, good prices. A little hard to find, trust your maps app it is there.

9:45pm on a Friday night, and it's closed. Business hours said open to 2am. Quite a drive just to have to turn around.

Fun little bar out in the middle of no where. Has a liitle creek on the back side of it. Was there for a logging show that is put on once a year. read more

The Brooklyn Tavern is located 18 miles off of US Highway 101 between Raymond and Cosmopolis. Follow N. River Road east from 101. It's a pretty drive and the Brooklyn is more of a destination (just to see Ray (the tavernkeeper) or other special event like Saginaw Days, etc.). It's decorated w/ huge old chain saws and other logging antiques. There's a potbellied stove in the middle of the room and "the bell" is off an old locomotive, so when you ring the bell....you Really ring the bell. The coolest thing (I think) is that the tavern is built over a tiny stream that is channeled along the bottom of the bar and was once used as a spittoon. There are several old framed logging photographs hanging around - they are cool too. The menu is (or was) limited: frozen pizzas, chips, etc. read more

Brooklyn Tavern is under New ownership as of June 2016. Larry purchased the rustic logging camp for a retirement project. The moment you walk in the walls begin talking to you. Rich history as a South Sound once booming logging town. Lots of cool old school chainsaws along with logging equipment. Ring the giant ship bell and buy the house a round "including the bartender". Fun Place. This is way off the beaten path, I call it a destination bar. You can come in from the East or West. All you motorbikes will enjoy entering from the West off Hwy 101, the ALL Asphalt 18 mile road out of Arctic WA, directly to the Brooklyn Tavern. If you ride in from the East going through Oakville be sure you are the leader. 8 miles of gravel with logging trucks will be your fate. I don't recommend the Oakville route, especially if all your riders are not skilled in soft gravel, or your afraid to get your equipment dirty, including your Brothers riding behind you. Just go around to the West and enter from Artic. I sure the hell wish someone would have posted the West route before I rode to Brooklyn Tavern. As of now Larry's business hours are 4 days weekly. TH-F-SA-SU opens at Noon, closes at 8pm unless there's a crowd. Frozen Pizza's and Hotdogs, Not enough traffic for a full menu. Unless everyone continues supporting the Tavern. Enjoy the twisty river road from the West, and please support this business. I hate to see many of my destination ride small town Saloons and Taverns going out of business due to lack of our financial support. Keep dive bars alive. We went by the Brooklyn Tavern on a Sunday ride, first Sunday in November and perhaps the last good motorcycle riding day of the year, if you prefer to be dry. The burgers were good, beer was cold, and the ride there very pretty, thought we hit several miles of dirt road to get there from Olympia. We enjoyed our stop there. Everybody was friendly and practiced good social distancing. read more

We decided to take a Sunday drive down to the Brooklyn Tavern from Olympia. About an hour & half drive one way. We were excited to explore a new spot for us. Really no expectations & we enjoyed the drive down there and the back country roads off the main drag. We came across the Brooklyn Tavern & pulled in. It's easy to miss. Walked in & it's a small bar with a pool table & a wood stove in the middle of the bsr. We found a table to sit down at & sat, & sat & sat & sat & sat & sat. Bartender was talking on the phone behind the counter & was talking to the few people that were in the bar. A couple of locals came in & the bar tender said hello to them & the couple came over & sat next to our table & the bar tender brought them over a couple of beers. The bar tender did not acknowledge us & turned around & went back behind the bar. We got up & left. This place was not for me. Very old inside & not that much old time decor. Just an old country watering hole that must not want outsiders business. The good thing is that we stopped in Montasano for gas & discovered a newer restaurant called the Fishing Hole right next to the Chevron Station off the freeway. Been hearing about this place for years from hubby's cousin, who is a second-generation regular. All the old logging artifacts are very cool to look at... the one of a kind "Snoose Creek" was intriguing... kinda waited for someone to try using it as a urinal, but I think we were there too early in the day for those kinds of shenanigans. ;) If they offered Caesars, that would really complete the experience for me! This is my favorite tavern that I have been to so far. They do it old school here. The walls are covered in old logging equipment and pictures. A wood stove in the center of the tavern keeps things nice and warm, and a healthy splattering of tasteful art keeps the bathroom comforting as well. Try out there hammsburger, cooked in some hamms beer, it's a good one. This bar is not for everyone, but it is for those who enjoy a little character. read more
