Brought my mom for her visit. Everything went perfectly and we felt comfortable and at ease. Grace was fantastic explaining everything so that we can schedule her surgery. When we checked out we met Eryn. She was so nice and welcoming. It was refreshing to see someone that was knowledgeable and really enjoyed her job. OnExperience Review My overall experience with this eye clinic was disappointing and frustrating. From the very beginning, the process felt like being on a conveyor belt--shuffled from room to room, with a different technician each time, and very little personal attention. When it came time to meet the doctor to select my lens, I never received a clear breakdown of the options. Instead, I was given a handwritten note showing only the most expensive and the lowest- priced choices. I wasn't entirely sure what I was choosing but ended up selecting the most expensive option. The second eye surgery was delayed by a week, which pushed back the time I could start using the new lenses. I left the appointment without any instructions for a follow-up. When I called the office to confirm, I was given incorrect information. On my next visit, after going through the same conveyor belt process, a doctor I had not scheduled with examined me and said my eyes were too dry to proceed, requiring another reschedule. The scheduler then informed me there would be no availability for at least a week, possibly longer. By this point, I was very frustrated with the delays. During another appointment, I was not given any prescriptions or priority scheduling, even though the manager had previously said I would receive both. Several other things stood out: * There were no refreshments or snacks offered, despite positive reviews mentioning them. * There is a second waiting room, which I still do not understand the purpose of. * I was recommended to use Miabo eye drops, which my insurance did not cover and which cost nearly $900 for a small bottle. Overall, my experience was poor and left me feeling neglected as a patient. The entire process was disorganized, communication was unclear, and the costs were extremely high--around $9,000 in total. LASIK is so prevalent that it seems like everyone and their grandma's dog has had it done (sorry I couldn't help but resurrect that old phrase!) But seriously, who doesn't know someone, maybe yourself included, who has been through this procedure. Furthermore, the stories abound of folks who now enjoy 20/20 or better vision without an ounce of regret. However, there's a less talked about, sub group of people who can't brag about having perfect vision post LASIK, people like me who had a high degree of astigmatism and far sightedness. We probably weren't good candidates, at least at the time, but got the green light to get it done anyhow. Therefore, when my son, who suffered from the same curse as me, decided that he wanted undergo the procedure, I was naturally worried. Brooks Eye Associates was recommended by our optometrist and our first point of contact there was Jessica. From the moment we met her she put us at ease. It was clear that she knew a great deal about LASIK and took the time to discuss all the ins and outs with us without the pressure of making an immediate decision. Next, we met with Dr. Smith for a more in depth exam. Afterwards he felt confident that my son was in fact a good candidate and could join the ranks of those with success stories of perfect vision. The actual surgery went smoothly and quickly. Everything unfolded just as they described, including my son's ability to drive to the follow up appointment the next day without glasses. He still had a little blurriness, especially when it came to things far off in the distance, but his vision got sharper over the next few weeks as his eyes continued healed. Today it's 20/20. I see that the majority of reviews here are for cataract surgery, but I would absolutely recommend Brooks Eye Associates for LASIK. read more

This is ONLY about the billing department -- the doctors and staff are great. On my last visit, checkout people said to leave and they'd call me with an appointment. There was no mention of a bill. Then I got a bill for $5.27 on Aug 22, a week later. Then an email, then a phone call. They would NOT leave me alone over $5.27. I have paid these people THOUSANDS of dollars -- THOUSANDS and they are dunning me for $5.27. I told them they'd get their $5.27 when they got it. My husband had Covid, I couldn't see to drive after the surgery, and I was concerned about more important things. They said I could pay online but guess what -- there is no link online. They sent one. They care a lot more about getting their $5.27 than they do about my vision. It's been two weeks and they are going nuts over it. read more

Do not go here if you have traditional Medicare. I did to get a second opinion on cataract surgery and they were going to charge me $10,500 for their special adjustable cataract surgery. That way, they said, they could adjust the implanted lenses four times to make sure that they were perfect. Needless to say I did not use them and instead used my provider at UTSW That did perfect cataract surgery on my eyes. One I had to have a torque lens so I had to pay extra for that but the other eye did not require a torque lens and it was 100% covered by Medicare. I now have wonderful vision and everything is like booking through my eyes with high definition. One surgery per eye, no adjustments needed and certainly not a cost of $10,500. Another patient that was checking out just before me who I talked to in the waiting room was going to have to have torque lenses and both his eyes and his cause I believe it was approximately $8700.00. I worked in healthcare for several decades, and I am posting this as hopefully helping other folks on Medicare to not get ripped off by this smooth operator. Traditional cataract surgery is covered by Medicare unless you need a special type of plans like I did in one eye and in that case I had to pay for the lens. I'm sure we all have better things to spend our money on during our golden years then unnecessary when you are just trying to get cataracts surgery done. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! read more

I don't ever do this but what has happened here, the pain and stress that has been placed on my mother caused by this place baffles me. My mom needed a Cataract operation done, I personally looked online and entrusted Brooks to be the perfect place with the hopes they would take care of her and a plus was being told that there was a Korean translator to help explain everything to my mother and father as I have not been able to take her to her appointments except for one due to being in paramedic school and recently starting the fire academy. This was almost about 5 to 6 months ago, she had her operation done had a laser operation in both eyes, has been constantly complaining of having blurry vision in both her eyes. Kept being told that it was part of the healing process and that it takes time, note that she has been going here for almost 6 months now. I noticed that my parents kept scheduling and going to these appointments for a while and still having the same issues with no resolve, I finally took her to one of her appointments and they did not do anything for her besides doing the vision test and we kept brining up that the blurry vision has not been getting better but was told the same thing, and in the car my mother informed me that, that's basically how every appointment goes. Her insurance paid 5000 and my father paid 9000 out of pocket to get this fixed, after some of these appointments my father had to pay a copay fee of about $240, this has happened twice and was paid. This last appointment after still no resolve to my mother's eyes they charged my father with a $300.00 copay... I was not there personally but my father got very upset which I understand why, and I would have acted out in the same way. WTF and why are my parents constantly being charged for constantly having the same issues that have been constantly being brought up with no fix and being told to just "schedule another appointment" It has been almost 6 months and in that time my mother's vision has only gotten worse, she can no longer drive, I find her stress crying in the middle of the day from the nagging vision she is experiencing, daily life has been made more difficult for her due to whatever the hell this place did to her. This place just sounds like a cash grab, and I feel responsible for all that has happened to my mom as they entrusted me to find a good place for this operation, and it has completely ruined her daily life. read more

What a kind and caring place! I was nervous for the first cataract and lens replacement but each person did their best to calm me down. Dr. Brooks is kind and caring and knows his field very well. The surgery center staff is awesome. The anesthesia doctor listened and did his best to keep me calm. However, I don't know why I was apprehensive. This surgery is so much easier than I thought and I can't wait for the second eye to be done this week! I'm actually looking forward to it. My sight in the first eye is life changing. Just completed my last visit with Brooks Eye Associates. It was a wonderful experience. Brooks is quite competent and has implemented a flawless continuity of care experience. Competency -- my vision is better than when I was young. Continuity of care - each step of their evaluation and care process is seamless. Most importantly, they are very respectful. One example, is when I was there today I had difficulty accessing WIFI. The young person who assisted me behaved as if this happened often. She did not make me feels like a "dig bat" little old lady. I started to notice that I was having problems with my vision when I was driving during the nighttime hours. After spending thirty minutes with my Optometrist she informed me that the only solution would be Cataract Surgery. I asked her for the name of the best Eye Surgeon, in the Dallas area, her response was Dr. Brooks. I scheduled an eye evaluation at Brooks Eye Associates. The evaluation appointment was very efficient and through. During my meeting with Dr. Brooks my options for lens implants were explained in detail and I decided on the option that would provide me with superior vision. I was very impressed with Dr. Brooks because he was knowledgeable, patient and confident. He answered all of my questions. There was a pre-op appointment was completed and surgery was scheduled. When I reported to the Surgery Center, for surgery on my first eye, everything was so coordinated and efficient. After checking in I was taken to the Pre-op area where several amazing nurses prepped me for surgery. It was easy to tell that they were not only prepping me for eye surgery but they were making sure I was comfortable. After a short meeting with Dr. King, the anesthesiologist, Dr Brooks came by to talk answer any questions. The actual surgery took less than five minutes. During the surgery I experienced absolutely no pain an very little discomfort. The thing that impressed me was that during the surgery Dr. Brooks was, of course focused on the process, but he inquired about my metal state. It is reassuring when your surgeon treats you like a person rather than just a patient. Surgery on my left eye was seven days later and the experience was just as positive. Post-op appoints we're all through and efficient. Now the results: I have 20-20 eyesight at all distances. This is the first time in over thirty years that I have not needed reading glasses. Most amazing is how much my color vision has improved. During the week I waited for my second surgery I could not believe the difference in the performance of my eyes. The post surgery eye was delivering clear and brilliant results but the other eye was providing vision that was brownish. My impression of Dr. Brooks and all of the people at their office and Surgery Center is overwhelmingly positive. Hi - I went to Dr Brooks for cataract surgery. After taking my insurance details, and speaking to my insurance provider, his office confirmed they are accredited by my insurance. They told me I had to pay $1500 upfront and that was full payment. So far so good. The operation was ok. Then starts another story .... After a few weeks I got another bill for $1293. While we were discussing that I got another bill for $550. Even while we were discussing this, I got another bill for $1493 from the anesthesiologist, and yet another for $150 from the lens vendor. So instead of $1500 - I end up spending $5000. I felt it was false pretense to get a patient by showing they are accredited with a provider, and then billing thru non accredited agencies. Be careful. 10/10 - saw the response from Dr Brooks. He is a thorough gentleman. But the process of validating with the insurance and reeling in a patient is incorrect. They would know upfront that while the doctor is in network the clinic is'nt, nor is the anesthesiologist. So it was misleading. No more from my side. read more

If you have $$$ to afford the top price cataract surgery ($6-8000) this may be ok. After initial appointment ($49 required) I called back to discuss options. Never heard back only texted to ask why I was calling. If you are on Medicare (my insurance agent assured me is 100% covered) They don't want my business-- very fancy new offices with lots of staff, adjacent to a surgery center...calls for expensive services to those who can afford this type of eye care. In my humble opinion-- if you are under Medicare and looking for that type of care-- avoid this place. Plus read ALL reviews online first. UPDATE: After seeing a second Dallas ophthalmologist and having a less than one hour full exam with the Dr. handling all the testing... I learned that my eyes are almost 2020 and I do not need cataract surgery now and probably won't for a few years. This was a relief... So I called for the second time to Brooks eyecare to request a $49 refund for my initial visit that said prepayment on cataract procedure. I was deferred to the billing office only to be told that there would be no way I would be able to receive my $49 back. In fact they had billed over $80 to my Medicare and supplemental insurance. When I called back and left messages, all I got was a text message again and no person to handle my call. Now with my reply on Google and also now on yelp, they have my attention and are telling me to call them funny they have all of my contact information in their files and have yet to contact me. thankful that I found out the truth. My eyes do not need cataract surgery as Dr. Dane for me. I did in fact told me I needed them in both eyes. that is not true ! So thankful I got a second opinion and highly recommend anyone seeing Brooks Eye Associates should also get a second opinion before making any decision about their eyes. read more

When's there for cataract surgery and was very impressed with the whole operation. Every employee I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful especially DR D. Brooks! He is very personable and comfortable to talk to with no selling pressure on different lens choice she just explains the facts on each one. The day of surgery it's a very smooth speedy process. And they do everything possible to make you feel comfortable drugs wise as well as answer any questions you may have about the anxiety of the surgery. This place is amazing ... if I could give them 10 stars - - I would. I have had pretty bad eyesight for decades, with severe nearsightedness and now pretty bad cataracts. I went to see Dr. Brooks for a consultation for cataract surgery and was quite impressed with the operation they are running. It is a pretty large sized facility, very well-staffed. Both the parking lot and waiting room were full, and apparently they see a pretty high number of patients each day. I checked-in and filled-out a modest set of paperwork, and right on-time, they called me in to begin a series of tests. All of the testing and eyesight evaluations were done efficiently and professionally. They discussed options for me, and then I scheduled my surgery. I came-in for my pre-op appointment, and again they brought me in right on-time. They fully discussed the process with me, and I settled-up with the accounting person. On the day of the left-eye surgery, they brought me into the surgery center where I met with Dr. Brooks briefly, they prepped me for the surgery, and before I knew it, the surgery was done. By the next morning, I could see clearly through my left eye (which really hadn't happened effectively for over 10 years. One week later, we did the same with my right eye .. a real game-changer for me. I can now see with 20/20 vision through both eyes - truly amazing! I had opted for the tri-focal lens implants which allow me to see far & mid distance as well as up-close reading. Those particular lenses were not covered by my insurance, so it was a real $$$ investment for me .. but worth every penny. I just left Brooks after getting a consultation for cataract surgery. When setting the appt there was no mention of a charge. The sign in ppwk said Us probably have to pay $50 for a retraction, whatever that is. On the way out they charged me THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS!! To try to sell me on their place for cataract surgery!!! No mention of that up front! They said "well, you're deductible wasn't met". It's Match! Who's deductible is met?? Again, no mention of any cost or insurance requirement up front. No mention at check in that my deductible wasn't met. Absolute rip-off!! If they think I'm coming back, they're wrong!! $300 for a sales presentation! Waited for over an hour. Busy doctors. Busy nurses. A secret second waiting room. Overbooked. Only good thing is the little time I got with the doctor and nurses they were friendly. This place is heavily overbooked at the end of their workday. Waited over an hour in the waiting rooms for an appointment I had scheduled. Once you finally get consulted by a nurse. They send you to a second waiting room they have. I then was finally called into a room where I thought a doctor would see me only to be waiting again. This place is a real tease for actually getting looked at by a doctor. The doctor seems super busy too. Don't go here if you don't know what your problem is. They're too busy and can't spend real time with you to figure it out. Go anywhere else you can please this place is making way too much money for little work. read more

I've been in a number of eye clinics for the last 15 years. Some of them are extremely polished and professional. Some are understaffed and poorly run. Brooks Eye is the first one where noticed the kindness of the staff. Every person I encountered from the front desk to my financial counselor and then finally Dr. Connor Smith was so unusually kind. I have had great results with my cataract surgery at Brooks Eye Associates. I do have an issue with my first appointment in that my eyes were dilated, and I was sent home and had extreme difficulty driving due to the dilation. I suppose they assume that since the first appointment is so lengthy (about 2 hours), that the dilation would have worn off, but it didn't. They need to have someone on hand to drive the patient home after that appointment. Secondly, during the surgery they place an object over your face to expose your eye receiving surgery; I found that terrifying. A suggestion would be to fully explain beforehand what the surgical procedure would entail. Otherwise, I found the staff to be great, and the results from my surgery even better! read more

It's a large and very busy office. Everyone was helpful and friendly. They explain things well but go a bit in depth. Basically there's three or four choices for cataract surgery. One Medicare pays for entirely. I opted for one where I was pretty guaranteed I wouldn't need glasses. The day of the second eye Dr. Brooks told me I'd probably need readers. The days of surgery went well. Some nurses are better than others. Some explain more than others. The surgery was over in under 10 min. There are charges for EVERYTHING. The pre-op was extra and I didn't find it out until weeks after surgery. Then I received a bill for $50 that apparently my insurance didn't pay. I had to change my surgery dates and no one returned my call for 2 days. Then they forgot to tell me they'd changed the time of my 24 hour check up. Reminders aren't sent for most appointments. The option to finance for 2 years free financing through Alphaeon changed my credit score down about 20 points. My vision in one eye is great. The other is a work in progress and hopefully will get there. read more

Ignore this business if you are disabled! On my very first phone call to them I explained that I was in a power wheelchair and was told that would not be a problem, that they even had a special room for people like myself. After setting up an appointment I got a return phone call again telling me they could accommodate the chair, but asked that I bring my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). We got a second call back again assuring us they can accommodate the chair. I made arrangements for my CNA to be available the day of the first appointment, which meant he had to rearrange his schedule to accommodate me. After all of that was arranged, they call me back and say they could not, and would not, accommodate me. So, my CNA aggravated his boss, I will be paying for an extra CNA day, and I still need to find a cataract surgeon. No stars would be a better rating! NOTE: The day after I posted this review I received a call from them with very long and sincere apologies. Strangely, they claimed that the turnabout was caused by someone thinking that I could not transfer when "sedated" by the Xanax that they ask patients to take for the procedure. I have had Xanax before other medical procedures with no problem, so either some questions needed asking or have me come in to be sure they could accommodate me. They did offer to assist me in finding someone else to do the procedure, I felt I could do that on my own. read more

Everyone was very, very nice and the facility was beautiful. There was even a staff member walking around with snacks and water. It was definitely a pretty package. I had read the reviews before I booked my appointment, so I had an expectation and this part of my experience did meet that expectation. The staff with whom I had contact were courteous and knowledgeable, but at the end of the day, I felt as though I were listening to a sales pitch. I didn't feel as though my questions were answered sufficiently and that I was being pushed towards the most expensive artificial lens option, even though that was expressly not what I wanted. I know that Dr Brooks performs cataract surgeries routinely and that other feedback is good. But I did not feel as though I was being heard at all. Instead, I felt rushed back to the business office after getting a figurative pat on the head. Now here is where the story gets good. I sought out a second opinion and it turns out that I actually do not need cataract surgery-- at least not for a number of years. I was diagnosed with dry eye and prescribed over the counter drops. The dry eye was mimicking symptoms of cataracts, but when that condition was addressed, my vision improved remarkably. This office has state of the art equipment for conducting cataract assessments. I don't understand how my diagnosis could have been so far off the mark that surgery was recommended. Based on my experience, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this doctor. My piece of advice is to always consult with more than one specialist when making decisions of this magnitude. I'm so grateful that I did. read more

Below is my original review of my experience at Brooks. In the years since, my vision is still sub par; haze at the edges of my vision, shadows around letters when i try to read, and no ability to focus on objects at far distance. That one hurts the most as I spent my professional life as a Navy pilot, able to scan and identify aircraft from miles away and focus on multiple instruments immediately. I have lost those abilities forever. I urge caution and much consideration before getting eye surgery, especially at this office. I had always heard nothing but great reviews about it but it hasn't worked out for me. I had 20/10 vision all my life. I was a career Navy pilot for 20 years. At 40 something I had to get readers because of the normal  aging process but I could still see perfectly. As cataracts began to grow in my 60's, there was noticeable blurring of bright lights at night, so when a doctor told me to get the surgery, I envisioned a return to my youthful days as that was exactly what the Dr said . I succumbed to the sales pitch for premium lenses that would "allow me to see near and far perfectly without glasses" just like I did when young. After paying the $8400, I ended up with 20/40 vision in one eye and for a period of time 20/400 (legally blind) in the other. After a year and 9 months of repeated visits, drops, PRK, LASIK and finally demanding a referral to a specialist, the best I have is 20/40 with very bad star burst vision and the inability to read after about 30 minutes due to floaters in my eyes. I cannot sharply focus on some far objects at times. I could barely pass my driver's license eye test much less an FAA vision test. I had run out of options and Dr Brooks insisted that YAG procedures would be the best corrective action. The YAG did no good and although told by the Dr prior to the procedure that lens replacements would be possible, that option is now described as very likely to cause further damage my eyesight and is not recommended. Be very wary. Consider waiting for as long as you can and do not expect the hype regarding premium lenses to be your final result. read more

I had -20 when I come to Dr. Brooks. Now I have 20/20. I am VERY happy I trusted my eyes to him - he is really good! I had cataract on both eyes, on top of very high miopia. My bad - I come to Dr. Brooks (almost)too late, cataract was too advanced. Dr. Brooks does 4500 (it is not a typo) cataract removal surgeries per year. Each one takes 5-10 minutes. He delivered outcome precisely as promised. Even better. No single complications during/after the surgery, no single negative symptom I was warned to watch for. Was referred to Brooks by the optometrist for cataract surgery and they took care of us through insurance changes, etc. The surgery went well on the first eye and much better on the second eye. As with any medical procedures, you have to pay close attention and not be afraid to speak up with questions or corrections. We are almost done with post surgery eye drops and we anticipate excellent vision ~20/20 when everything is stabilized. Everyone was pleasant and friendly and mostly listened to our concerns throughout the entire process. This has been a much more relaxing experience than I expected it to be. The staff is wonderful and so pleasant. No one made me feel obligated to get a specific lens when I had my cataract surgery, but they all explained the different lens and what each would accomplish. Was referred here by my optometrist because they said they took Tricare. They don't. They informed me of this AT the desk, AFTER I filled out all the paperwork. Not the night before via email or text (though I received both an email and text the day prior confirming this appt). Not in the two weeks leading up to this appointment. No. After I just drove 30 minutes to their location and 20 minutes doing paperwork. They said they tried to call me yesterday to tell me. Yesterday. Which was before their text to confirm todays appointment! Disorganized mess. Can't imagine what their clinical practice is like if this is what their business practice is like. read more

UPDATE ... I strongly recommend you go somewhere else for cataract surgery! The anesthesiologist has been sending me bills even after my insurance company paid them. I had contacted my insurer about this mater, who has tried to get contact with the billing service, but can only get a recording and had to leave to a message. Today I get yet another bill saying I owe money, so I tried to contact the billing service, and guess what ... I got a recording to leave a message; very frustrating, to say the least. read more

BROOKS EYE ASSOCIATES I love smart people and I gravitate to people who have THE ANSWERS. So began my quest to find answers to my ophthalmology questions. I had: 1. poor vision since 3rd grade but corrected in 7th grade 2. corrective lens for far vision, anything beyond 5 feet 3. hard contacts, resulting in a severe cornea abrasion 4. expensive soft contacts 5. radial keratotomy 6. cheap contacts - throw away daily 7. more contacts 8. THEN, cataracts NOW WHAT? Before Brooks Eye Associates, I was told that RK patients had less than optimum chance of good results with cataract surgery. I was WRONG and THEY were wrong! Everyone at Brooks had the answers, expertise, and the correct approach to my vision problems. Dr. Brooks was purposeful in his remarks when he said, "we can do this!" Surgery, one eye at a time, a week apart was perfection. There were no issues, or problems. Yes, my surgery was different than most because of my RK, however, it was just as successful. And my results are life-transforming. I can see colors more vividly, I can process subtle visual differences, and my depth perception is greatly improved. This is a high volume practice but professional. I had no long waits during the entire process. Surgery was routine with no complications. It was a bit unnerving for Dr Brooks to change the prescription of a lens a few minutes before surgery. The after-surgery care by various optometrists was very rushed. It was obvious that they were trying to score my eyes with the best possible numbers. After about six weeks, my vision is 20/20 or 20/30 unaided at all distances. Prior vision was highly myopic with high astigmatism. I see halos/ starbursts around every point light at night or late evening. I knew that was a trade off with the PanOptix lens and I'd make the same choice again. Dr. Brooks et al say the effects will diminish over time; we'll see. Parting advice: do your homework and use your own eye doctor for follow up. read more
