Brooks repairs two of our external door locks this week and the technician did a great job! He was personable, worked quickly, and rather than charge us to go get a part he needed be waited while my husband went to Lowe's to get the part. It's great to have knobs that work! The only ding is, I asked him to make two additional keys to one lock, which he did, but he didn't give them to me. I tried to get his attention as he drove off and was unsuccessful. The missing keys is such a minor thing and we plan to just go to Lowe's to get my key copied. Thanks Brooks! read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Brook's Lock and Key. Before making the 15-mile drive to the store, I called to ask for an estimate to have two new vehicle keys cut. I was told I needed to bring the keys in for an estimate. When I arrived, I was not greeted and initially felt more like an inconvenience than a customer. After explaining that I had called earlier, I was asked to show the keys. When I questioned why I had to drive in just for a quote, I was told they needed to determine whether the keys were programmable. I explained multiple times that I only needed the keys cut, not programmed. During the conversation, another employee questioned how I planned to program the keys, and the interaction came across as condescending. Eventually, I was quoted $5 per key and agreed to proceed. Before cutting them, I was given a no-refund disclaimer because the keys were not purchased from their store. I accepted that and understood they could not guarantee aftermarket keys, but I expected that the keys would at least be cut correctly. After driving another 15 miles home, I discovered neither key would even turn in the ignition. I called the store and was instructed to make another 15-mile trip back so they could recheck them. Once there, I was told the keys may have been cut too shallow and that there was nothing more they could do. I was again reminded of the no-refund policy. Only after the failed attempt was I told that keys manufactured in China often have problems and that they regularly encounter issues with them. Had that information been provided upfront, I could have made a more informed decision before paying for the service. I understand that aftermarket parts can sometimes present challenges, but I believe customers should be informed of known risks beforehand, and I do not believe a no-refund policy should excuse an improperly cut key. Unfortunately, due to the poor customer service, unnecessary trips, and unusable keys, I cannot recommend Brook's Lock and Key. I wish I had gone to Blair & Sons from the beginning read more

They have always been my go-to for residential lock issues anyway, but this time I needed to replace a lost key/fob combo for an Outback. The local dealer claimed the vehicle was too old and wouldn't order an OEM fob, so I went online to find a generic one. When it came in, I took it to Brooks Lock & Key in Huntsville to get the key cut. That's when I realized they were a bona fide automotive locksmith and they were able to program my car's fob functions right at the store. He even told me they could order an OEM fob for the car. I have always had great experiences at both of their locations, but the guys at the Huntsville store really went above and beyond to help me. They are very professional and fast, and it was an overall great experience. I would recommend them for any job. And I'll never have to go to another dealership again!! Absolutely terrible experience working with this company. Unfortunately, we hired them several times to transitionally change locks at a commercial property that we own as our tenant moved out of our buildings. Even being foolish enough to hire them multiple times, I felt it was imperative to put our story out to the public so others avoid making the same mistake that we did. The first visit/building, the tech showed up at the very last minute within our appointment window. The buildings are older, so the technician said they needed to return to their office to grab some equipment that they don't usually keep on hand to change the locks. I told the tech that I live/work about 2 hours out of town, so if we needed to reschedule, we could. He assured me that his office was "right around the corner" and he'd be back quickly. An hour and a half later, he still wasn't back so I called their office. The tech said he got caught up working another job and would be back quickly. He came back, finished the job, and was paid in full without any gripe that was owed due to the inconvenience. The second visit/building, a different tech was sent. We asked him to key the second building's locks alike to the first. He said that the first building appeared to have been keyed with the wrong equipment. I asked for clarification. He said they first building had residential locks on it that weren't compatible with commercial doors/frames. I informed him that it was his company, but a different tech, who did the work. I asked that - if it was the work was done incorrectly, as he had just stated - shouldn't they redo the work "correctly" at no cost. He said no, we'd be charged. So, I told him that our priority was to simply get the locks changed so the building was secure and we'd worry about getting commercial hardware later. He rekeyed the locks and was paid in full without any gripe that was owed due to the poor workmanship. The third visit/building, we had the same tech as the first visit. When there was 10 minutes left in the multiple hour appointment window, I called and asked where the tech was. He said he got distracted working a different job and was on his way. He showed up about 25 minutes later, 15 minutes late. We asked him to key the final three doors on the property alike to the other doors/locks they changed. After looking at the locks, he again said he didn't have the equipment he needed to change the locks and would need to go back to the office. He acknowledged that I lived/worked out of town and said that if I left him a key, he'd ensure the locks were changed and would call me to pay the bill when complete. He never called. I called him the following business day and he confirmed the work was complete. He was paid in full. The next time I was on site, none of our keys - all keyed alike by this company's technicians - worked on the third building. I called and calmly asked them to correct the issue. The person on the phone said they'd speak with the tech and get to the bottom of it. They called me back and said their tech claimed that the doors were keyed with the key that was provided and it was not their fault but they'd be happy to set up an appointment to correct the issue. I told them that their tech was wrong. The key that was provided to the tech was one of four copies. It was far more likely that the tech left, misplaced our key, and keyed the locks with the wrong key. After some back and forth, we agreed to disagree. I asked if we'd be charged to correct the work. He said yes, unless we could prove that the tech used the wrong key. I asked him how we'd do that and he responded with silence - knowing that there was no logic to his stance. At that point, I summarized all of the issues we've put up with and said that we would not continue working with them - and would leave reviews of our experience online - if they didn't agree to correct the issue at no charge. He said they wouldn't do that unless we could prove their tech made a mistake. Needless to say, we will no longer be doing business with this company. read more

We paid 139.00 for a lock to be replaced. Ever since we've had problems with it. We could lock it from the inside but not with the key from the outside. When we called to have them come fix it, they said they'd have to charge us 150.00 (!) to come back (we had waited passed the 30 day warantee to call). This was outrageous! Wouldn't they have checked the lock before they left to make sure it could be locked from the outside? We ended up, after some fiddling, being able to fix it ourselves. Beware of this company! Just went to have my fireproof safe opened because I'd lost the key. They were fast and friendly. They had it open in no time (I guess I shouldn't be surprised) but they also made me a new key. While I was there another woman came in to set an appt. to get all her locks changed and they had her set up in no time flat. Came in at 11:30 at night after being away for the holidays and my key would not work in the old locks we have. Jeremy came right away and it even took some time for him to get it unlocked, but he did and re-keyed the lock for me. Works beautifully and would definitely use them again. I called to ask about automobile lock....website said home/automotive and before I could even get my question out he dismissed me.

When I called this company, I did not understand the background information between key fobs, transponders and so forth. However, The woman that answered the phone was not polite in answering my questions. I did ask a few questions, maybe six or seven. One reason being I rarely was able to ask my whole question before she would interrupt me and tell me what she could "sell/not sell" me. I wanted to know what was available on the market, not necessarily just in her store. She interrupted me before I was even able to ask the first question completely, and when I in returned interrupted her, she told me to let her finish. Not please, excuse me, or anything. She talked ran through her information without giving me the information I needed because she didn't know what it was....I never could get my whole question out.....just wanted you to know - if you want information - don't ask here....they think you know what they know......esp??? read more
