For real, yo! Don't get screwed, call the Dude!! So, one beautiful and hot night in Houston, TX; right before I was about to go out on a date, my garage door pretty much told me, "screw you, Belly! You ain't getting the car out past me!!" and went 'SNAP!!!" and broke one of the springs. I managed to open the door manually (obviously getting dirt on my clothes and getting a little sweaty from the manual labor) and drove the car out. But I definitely didn't want to deal with this on a daily basis. So, Yelp (and google) to the rescue!!!! The first thing I did was call "Southwest Garage Door of Houston" because it seemed like the Yelpers' go to place. I got a quote over the phone and I was told to replace the springs with a pair of 90-lb springs, it would run me $185. Not too bad, right? But then I had some garage door people come out to give me a free quote and they told me that I had an old-school heavy-duty metal garage door and that 90-lb springs wouldn't cut it. This dude (Sara's garage door) quoted me $380 to replace the springs with heavy duty springs. WHOA!!! that's more than double what was quoted to me. He also told me that he could install even heavier duty springs for an extra $100. At this point, I was like, "screw this. Forget it!!" At this point, I realized that I'd be paying more to ask for the heavy duty springs from Southwest. I called some other places and the cheapest I found was still in the high $200 - low $300 range. "Shoot! I'm going to be broke!!" I thought. I went back to Yelp and decided to call the Dude because I didn't want to get screwed. I called him around 7 pm in the evening and the Dude picked up (he was at the gym working out, but he still answered). I told him about my garage door, I told him that I needed to replace the springs, I told him that I needed heavy duty springs and he said, "$169". Whoa, what?! Did my ears deceive me?? I had to ask him again to make sure that this was for a pair of heavy duty springs for an old-school super heavy 300-lbs garage door and he gave me assurance that they would be the right springs. Anyway, fast forward to the following day (appointment day). He showed up around 9:20 am for a 9:30 am appointment. How do I know this? Well, because I wasn't home and he had to call me. Made me feel bad. But hey, I had 10 minutes!!! He came in and started getting to work. I asked him again about the springs and he started telling me about the kind of garage door that I have and the garage door that my neighbor has (lighter), etc. Anyway, bam, bam, bam! Snap, snap, snap! Clink! Clank! Sweat! Huff! Puff! He was done within about 30 minutes. I wrote him a check, gave him and his helper a couple bottle of gatorades (It was HOT!!) and said my thank you. I asked him about maintenance and how much he would charge. He told me to just do it myself and safe some money. Told me to remember to spray the springs and the rollers with lithium spray and I should be good. He offers 1 year warranty for parts and labor. Pretty awesome. I spoke with the owner, Steve, briefly yesterday (5/11) and they were able to set up an appointment the following day between 11am-12. I mis-communicated my telephone # via a text message, but despite this they did contact me and in a timely manner and I met Chris at the property for an assessment of garage door and opener. Chris was very thorough in his review and assessment of the condition and age of the opener, springs, etc. and was quick to give me his professional opinion. I've used this company two-times. The first time was a shot-in-the-dark, no recommendation and I can't recall where I found them--they were called Brooks Brothers but that was before they were asked to change the name because you know I always think of my $1000 suits and garage doors together, so it might muddy the brand. But anyway I found all this out when he came back the second time--years later because of some plastic component that just wears out but bingo he had the part, fixed my opener and placed a new sticker below the button--with the new name. I called them back because they were professional, genuine and honest. Funny thing... I was searching Yelp for remodelers and this company came up, when I saw all the 5-stars I just had to keep the trend. You won't find a better company. read more

Absolutely floored by their work and service. We thought we might need to replace our garage door but Chris was able to install some struts to prevent the metal from bowing-out. He adjusted the tensioner spring and made sure the mechanism opened and shut properly. He took the time to explain everything and his congeniality was outstanding. These "Dudes" are awesome! Steve came out in a hurry a couple of months ago to fix the main tension spring that broke on us and he was very professional and educational by talking me through some of the work he performed without hesitation. Fast forward to today 7/18/22, Chris (Steve's son I believe) came out to replace my burned out opener unit as it had lasted for almost 18yrs so it was time to upgrade! This is the real deal. I've never had a better experience in hiring someone to fix a problem. I called around a few places today and they all had someone answer the phone with NO IDEA how much anything would cost, all they could tell me was that it was $30-$40 to come look, and could be up to $1,000 depending on the work needed. I called Brooks and he answered the phone himself, and said he could come look at it today and I explained what the problem was and he immediately knew what to do OVER THE PHONE! He came to the house just after lunch and fixed my door in 20 minutes. Was very kind, professional, and personable. Best possible outcome, most reasonable price, and best attitude and demeanor. listen, i wish that your garage door would give notice when its going to completely destroy your day - but it won't and that is when Steve comes to the rescue. Random tuesday morning, my garage door opens but won't shut, need to go to work, drop a friend to the airport and generally go about my life. I pulled the string and the door closed (i could not get it open again to save my life) and then i called Steve (from yelp reviews no less!). He was at the bank but still picked up his phone - told me he would be there in 45 min -- he was there in 30! In 20 minutes the problem is fixed, the broken spring is fixed and the price was $229 (which was less than others had quoted). Good, honest service. We had a bowed bottom panel on our garage door, and others had told us that there was nothing we could do but replace the whole door for serious cost. Chris came and took a look and was able to replace a beam on the door to straighten it out and make it run smoothly again. It's not often you rate someone that didn't actually perform a service for you but this company is 5 stars. I called in needing to replace my garage door sensors because I attempted to do this on my own and could not get the replacements to work. When I called in he actually told me how to take care of the issue over the phone and save myself the money on a service trip. It's not often you will find a contractor that is willing to offer this kind of help. Stumbled upon Brooks Overhead when I was looking on Yelp for another contractor. Based on the five star reviews I saw, I remembered that and called them when the torsion spring on my garage door broke. Steve answered right away and he was able to come by the same day. As everyone has said here, these guys definitely deserve five stars. Our garage door was falling due to faulty rollers, and we called our usual garage door repair man, but he had trouble with his car. After waiting for him all day, we searched for another alternative and found Brooks Overhead! We called them and set the appointment for the following day, in fact they were willing to come that same evening, but since it was dark and had rained, we preferred to have it done during daylight hours. They gave us a quote of $200, and next morning they came as promised. Dwaine the technician assessed the problem and fixed it within ten minutes! Because the repair was so simple, he felt bad charging us $200 and instead charged us only $100! He was very knowledgable and extremely funny! Very nice guy. Not once did he ever try to force any new items on us, and instead offered to just give our almost twenty year old garage door a quick fix, but we decided it be better to change it altogether. We have an appointment set for next Saturday. Overall we are incredibly pleased with their service and feel very lucky to have found them :).
