Although it is early in the year. 6/15/2026 purchase these melons look old and been around a while, stems brown where in the past they were green, holes in melons that had been there a while these marks were not fresh. Some melons 20 out of 110 were bad and that is not a good percentage, this load cost me a lot of money as I had about 5 customer return bad melons. Yes the loading was quick in and out but the customer service for bad melons is substandard for a place that sells this many melons. I am ready for another load but I may just pass as I lost a lot of money on this load with no help from the seller of these melons. Hate it but if I can not find another place to buy bulk melons I am done.

Last year the only double digit melons were their largest. Prices ranged from $6-9. This year is outrageous. $10, 11, and 12 for exact same melons. At $10, that is a 67% increase over last year. Not sure what went up in price. Maybe they needed more water? Lots of rain in east Texas during the Spring this year. Fertilizer? I paid the same amount for fertilizer this year as last year. Labor? Not sure on that one. Really odd. Watermelon prices at Walmart, Kroger and other large grocery chains have not really changed much from last year. $1 per melon, at most, from what I have purchased. They sell good sized melons average $8.99. So, I am puzzled. And the melons at Walmart have been just as tasty as Pennington's. Of course, they may be Pennington melons. I even bought two small yellow melons from Florida for $2.50 each. (Not personal melons) They were not as good, but they worked just fine making juice from them. So, why are they charging so much at their stands in Grapeland???????

I was told they smoke with hickory wood. You can find a great assortment of smoked chicken, links and pork along with sandwiches made to order as well. The meat market has a great display of meat for purchase as well. Loved the local family business and that my food was wrapped in paper. Felt like I was back in a real butcher shop. There meat market was clean and had a small table to eat at. Don't second guess the shop based on the size of the establishment the ribs and service are magnificent. They are under new management and Megan assured us her and her husband will meet hunters after hours to check in your deer or hog. They will also answer the phone any time day or night. Beware of meat processors that post after hours phone numbers and individuals are not employees and don't answer the phone. Texas Monthly called their beef jerky something like, "transcendent." I'm inclined to agree. Some of the best beef jerky I've ever had. They sell beef, lamb, pork too. There are giant take home boxes where you can grab several pounds of meat at once for a big party or a tailgate. The prices are all so low. So obviously, all the meats are coming from the classes that they're teaching in the meat and food sciences building that this place is attached to. Those spare ribs might have been some student's midterm project. The meat is all displayed (shrink wrapped) in big glass cases. Prices are clearly displayed. Buy in bulk and save! Everything is clearly labeled with the Texas A&M logo so nobody gets confused about where you got your meat. They have helpful posters that inform the purchaser about where different cuts come from on the animal. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They offer a microwave in the corner if you need to warm up something and take it to go. My favorite is the sausage that's shaped into a football. Gig 'em! If you're on campus, you gotta check this out. This store will convert the strictest of vegetarians into carnivores! Whoop!
