This place is a mess. I have only gone here when I don't want to drive 40 minutes to a real grocery store, and I ALWAYS regret it. They are never consistent with their produce. Every time I get it, there is always something wrong with it. And make sure you check for mold on fruits/veggies because I always see something moldy there. The last time I went, I got a watermelon and it was disgusting. My son cut it open and asked if it was supposed to look like that. When he showed me, it had a foul smell and looked like it had been previously frozen ‍ I was too tired after work to go back and get my money back from their overpriced rotten watermelon, but I vouched never to go back there and waste my money. My name is Shirley Williams, I am a caterer here in magnolia have been here for 8 years I just found out that this store was selling chicken fresh fried Chicken and wanted to come and get me some, when I got to the counter I told the lady that I wanted a two-piece and a extra piece. She was going to charge me for three piece which was more expensive than getting just a two-piece snack and a extra piece she has started to get my two piece but what she did was put my thigh in one bag and what I thought was two legs and a biscuit, soon as I got out the store I reached and got the leg out and when I reached to get the second leg it wasn't there I was already driving home and when I turned back around and came to the store and informed her that she didn't put my second leg in the bag she stood in front of other customers and was arguing with me that she did put the leg in there and embarrass me in front of the customers that was standing there. Me noticing the cameras I went to the customer service desk and ask the customer service representative if she could please look at the cameras because the lady in the deli said that she had put two legs in the bag and I know that she didn't and I needed her to look at the camera so she will know that I wasn't lying, when the service representative call the manager over and I told the manager the manager said I don't need to look at the camera I'll just go get you the other leg. I informed the manager that the lady behind the counter was arguing with me and embarrassed me in front of other customers and I didn't want them to think I was just standing there trying to get an extra piece of chicken for nothing the only thing I wanted was what I paid for thank God the manager was like no I'll just go get it for you and that's all we need to do it's no big deal. I would like to thank the manager for not embarrassing me further and just giving me the item that I paid for. She apologized for the lady in the deli but I was so upset by then because I was called a liar in front of customers. I have a business of my own a catering company of my own and I wouldn't dare try to cheat anyone out of their supplies, their inventory or anything else. It was a very embarrassing moment for me and I just had to let the public know that this was not okay. I felt embarrassed and look down on because I want it to get the items that I payed for. Thank you manager that was on duty, and the customer service representative that help me while I was standing there. This meat counter and packaged meat is disgusting. They is no way I would buy anything from that section. It is the closest store near this city we moved to and rarely stop there. It has to for something I really need and can find. Staff are helpful which I do appreciate. My son no longer can use them.for prescriptions so he has to switch. Less reason to shop. They had a coloring contest for kids and I came in with 4 finished from my young boys who are excited about it. The blonde woman says I'm not sure you're going to make it because we already took them down. I said really?? Well my kids are very excited. It says we have until today. She says yah, I don't know. Then the other lady behind the desk says chimes in and says oh yes we can put them with the other ones, like no problem. I just don't understand why people have such a hard time being nice. And then what brought me to actually leave this review is because this is not the first time that specifically this blonde older lady has been rude when I've checked out from this grocery store. A surprising place to eat lunch or dinner! It's a hidden gem if you like home cooked meals. They have fried chicken, boudin balls, Beef tips over rice, chicken spaghetti, just to name a few! They have a number of sides like mashed potatoes, coleslaw, broccoli salad, pea salad, ect. They have a sushi bar as well. You can get it to go or there are tables where you can sit & eat, unlike some of the other grocery stores. The prices are quite reasonable! The items I listed above are just some of the things I've tried. Good hot meals on a budget! There are many things that I have not tried yet. They're a great option if you're interested in alternatives to the usual fast food or sit down restaurants. We've ordered a lone cooked Cajun-fried turkey from Brookshire Brothers for 10 years. This year, despite calling ahead, the staffer told us they sold lone turkeys to schools and churches (LIE), and made us order sides with our cooked turkey; fine. But then, when we come to pick it up the day of our Thanksgiving, an employee had written "COLD" on our order even though it said baked and we specified BAKED many times. I know that some people may not agree with me but I really like the place. It is so nice to be in a grocery store where you can actually move around without pushing your way through a crowd of people like in HEB. Not to mention those big red carts there clogging up the aisles. Sure, the prices at BB are higher but figure in your gas, mileage, having to deal with the 1488 construction, and stress in the bigger stores also. And let me let you in on a secret---the sale prices at BB are frequently lower than the sale prices at the bigger stores. BB has some items that you won't even find in HEB. For those of you who have not seen the store since it was remodeled, go look at it. Much has been changed. And, as has been said here, the pharmacy is terrific, and all the store employees are very friendly and helpful. Need your groceries taken out to your car? No problem. Just ask. This store is pricey! Close to $3 for regular milk and almost $8 for organic milk. Regardless, it's a good option for when you need something last minute. It's conveniently located. We experienced great service. My husband had a nice visit with the lady at the deli who happens to be from the east coast. She was definitively the highlight of our trip there (husband's words). Problem with people on price at this local store is just that. It's a community market where you have no large supermarkets. Go to the local gas station and buy milk and you pay double what you would pay at Brookshires. They are building an HEB at 1488 and 149. I would hate to lose this market. They are not gouging on prices, their delis awesome, Charles in the pharmacy is the best Pharmacist I've ever encountered and fruits and veggies are always great. Been coming here for almost 13 years. No they can't compete with Walmart Supercenter but I don't have to drive 36 miles round trip at 9 at night. 2.5 miles from my home. read more

Really nice well stocked local grocery store. Morning coffee and deli a nice change to fast food available in Magnolia. There's only one other grocery store choice here and it isn't one of the mega stores either. Being a small local chain they can keep prices reasonable and still offer a down home feel. They keep it up very well. I really like the local business bulletin board by the restrooms. Annual y Scout Pack 1023 has a food drive here and we have always been welcomed and had really good success. read more

I love this hometown Brookshire Bros! Extremely convenient, close and always very clean and organized! People are down-home great, helpful and you always have great home cooked food in the deli (make a plate to eat there or take home) that you won't get at larger stores like HEB or Kroger! I read some of the silly 'not-great' reviews and realized these people don't understand home-town, people oriented stores! The prices are a little higher and it doesn't have huge selections, but it would cost the same in gas if you drive 6 miles further into town to a larger store, plus no waiting or dodging people, and very convenient! Convenience is always pricier, like a corner 'Convenient Store'! I also find lots of products here that I can't find at the larger stores - like things you would get homemade by your Grandmother. Also, it is employee owned which is GREAT!!! I'd rather give my money to this employee owned company than a large corporate store like HEB or Kroger which could care less about you!! I love this store. They have recently remodeled. The store always feels and looks so fresh and clean. There are workers all over the store and they always greet me with a smile and ask if they can help me find anything. There is only one negative comment I would make. Typical store with most up to date products, cashiers are supper slow. She informed me she would be right with me three times, which was pacifying, however it took her forever to scan and figure out price for a product. Just returned home from Brookshire Bros in Magnolia. At least half of the customers in the store were not wearing masks and many who were, wore them below the nose. There seems to be a complete disregard for the risks associated with Covid-19. For personal safety, I will not be returning to the store until the management makes an effort to correct this dangerous situation and attempts to follow CDC guidelines. read more

I am originally from Lufkin Texas, the hometown of Brookshire Brothers. I worked for store number one when I was in high school almost 50 years ago. When I move to Magnolia I was happy to see an old recognizable friend. The prices are a little bit higher then the mega stores 10 miles away but the drive to them it's not worth the difference. I asked the market manager if they could get Renfro sausage which is made in Lufkin and he gladly obliged. If you go in and love great Homestyle country stuffed sausage give it a try. I recently transferred my prescriptions to your pharmacy and when it came time to refill one, I did so online. It turns out that if you don't have a cell phone you can't refill them online. Bottom line: I can't afford to get a cell phone. The pharmacy tech had the audacity to tell me that if I don't have a cell phone I should get one. It's not convenient for me to call refills in - I prefer to do this online. WHAT ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER DON'T HAVE CELL PHONES? I should have been informed of this when I transferred my prescriptions. The tech is currently filling my prescription but I shouldn't have to call every time when I need a refill. Shame on you people. read more

The produce stinks. I will say they are consistent. Green potatoes. Limp Broccoli. Mushy useless apples. Peaches that are grey inside. Even corn. I bought 6 ears one time on a Saturday. I wanted it for Monday. When I opened the corn it was moldy inside. Terrible. I have wasted so much money at this store, I have finally given up. Go in anytime and check. Nothing is ever fresh. If you want fresh produce, no need to stop in here. You'll waste your money. I am forced to drive an extra 20 miles just to get some decent produce. What a shame. There is an HEB coming to Magnolia. I really like the place. It has about everything I am looking for and the employees are very helpful and friendly. Wait times at the checkouts are never extreme and if you only have a few items, you can use the self check outs. They have a number of Texas themed items for the home and they also make their own fried chicken there and it is very good. I do miss the area where they used to give out the free samples, though, they did away with the free samples. It appears to be a very well run and organized store. My only complaint is the music in the store, sometimes it is modern pop/rock and it is very annoying. Please keep it country. read more

Brookshire Brothers as a chain is a ripoff operation, poorly stocked with anything beyond basic grocery foods expected to be found at major chains. The produce is typically poorly conditioned (first-in, first-out, and they can't get the better quality produce found in better stores with more clout with distributors/growers). I have to go to the HEB+ in The Woodlands because they have stuff that can't be found at Brookshire Brothers. This is an example of a store that is 20 years or more behind the times in terms of product availability. This is also an example of a business that is predatory in its pricing because it mainly operates in small towns with better options far away, and that leaves people with older cars and less money having to pay more money out of their monthly income than the average person living near a large area would. These customers would rather pay the higher prices than have to pay more for gas and higher maintenance on their older cars. Even Edna, Texas has an HEB built decades ago charging the same prices found in the HEB+ in Victoria. Brookshire Brothers, step up to the competition or be made obsolete. I would rather drive the extra 30 miles round-trip than shop at your store. read more
