Do not I repeat do not take any samples from the sample lady in the back of the store. She was giving cups of electrolytes and she was done with it and she gave me and my 4 kids a cup of it. She then gave my kids two packets each she said take it home it's good. We apparently were watched by employees at the front because my kids had them in their hands. Woman at the front stopped us and said we need to see your receipt to make sure you paid for them I told her oh no they were given to the by the lady in the back she said to take them she was done with samples. The woman said ohhh that's weird and then said have a good day. We walked out to get water at the dispenser when a white man red hair with a vest on came to my car and was on the phone. I then called the store after leaving the packets in the basket, told the manager I wasn't gonna be called a thief nor was I gonna let my 6 year olds be called one too. They told me they had to ask the man why he was at my car and he apologized for the misunderstanding. I'm not sure I wanna come back here. Watched and false accusations I don't steal. read more

I like this store best as it has a great variety of meaningful specials, always well stocked, clean and orderly, it's not crowded with displays in the aisles, competetive pricing and staff are quick to answer questions or locate my desired products. Food items are from a variety of cuisines and produce is usually fresh. I keep coing back as I like the ease of shopping here. read more

Well I had hoped to find my Breaded Beef Pattie's but on the day I went they sadly didn't have any Meats, Perishables nothing Post the hurricane! Store does have some items other stores don't have especially if it's Mexican products! Some prices are inflated but if you shop off Sale items it's Good! I am honored and pleased to comment on my experience with Food Town and this store in particular. This is not my only grocery store, but one of my favorites for quite a few reasons. First and foremost they have a very motivated crew with an amazingly positive attitude! Both towards their customers and amongst themselves. Commendable also towards management. They have quite a large selection for the size store and have always fresh produce, great specials, very nice meat selection, priced very competitively, fresh fruits and vegetables and also specialties. I am not sure it is appropriate to provide my opinion on the few negative comments that were made so I will not. But please take those on their merrit. Enough said. read more

I love to come to the supermarket because you can always find some really good deals. The protos is always fresh and I've never seen a baked potato so big in my life. Everything always seems very put together and clean.. did I mention the deals that you can find here. Definitely don't overlook this place been coming here for years.. Why am I writing this review? It makes no since for me to even do so when if you're passing by and deciding to go, you're gonna go anyways as its a grocery store and its probably close to you else you wouldn't be out in the first place. Well if it helps, this isn't a grocery store you go to to do all out shopping. Its a "you have no other option without driving a bit further and you don't wanna pay 10x much at a convenient store." They have all your basic items including fruits and veggies that I highly recommend that other than onions, garlic and jalepanoes you go elsewhere for the sake of freshness. Canned items and packaged spices, beverages, etcetera is what you go for here. I'm not about to write about the other 10,000 options so hope you get the point. What I like most about this spot is it has what you need if you want to make some homemade soul/southern food. I'm talking foods that your mom would make when money was funny. And although they don't have a seafood section they are one of the only spots I can occasionally buy the small whole catfish, already skinned that I like to prepare. A good solid three rating for this grocery store. I give it begrudgingly because I have kind of started to like this place. It's cheap and small and easy to find what they do have. Staff is usually pretty friendly and the lines don't get too long. The downside of coming here is it is just for basic essentials. You will not find veggie burgers here though they do stock tofu under the salads in the front corner of the produce section. Going to the bathroom here is pretty inconvenient because it is upstairs only, so you'll have trouble herding small children upstairs to it. Not sure if they have a secret elevator for wheelchair access but I doubt it. Upside: cheap. And the produce is always very very fresh. It's rare that you'll have a few days it's pretty much buy it and use it that day. read more

At the time I wrote my first review the employees had masks, but they were around their necks not being used. There was no one cleaning carts nor any cleaning supplies accessible to customers. While Foodtown may have had policies in place the management at the Eldridge store was not following the guidelines. The next time I went to the store the Shields were up and the employees were wearing masks but the carts were still not being cleaned and no cleaning supplies for customers were visible, plus there were no baskets on the right side of the store. Quality meats. Fresh produce. I have been to many grocery stores in the United States and I have never seen carrots that big. They have a very large selection of produce. Things you'd think they wouldn't have too. We're visiting here from South Louisiana and I was pleasantly surprised that they had a lot of Louisiana seasoning and products. Zatarain's to be exact, is pretty much a hometown staple for me. The only drawback for me is they didn't have Blue Runner red beans. There are a lot of Mexican products which we love. Please if your looking to buy ANY MEATS from this place don't! We bought over 200$ worth of meat to last us a month and I can't be the only one complaining about the awful awful smell and discoloration the meat has! Will be going tomorrow with every meat we've bought and giving everyone updates! This is very dangerous for a food store to be selling rotten food! What can I say about this grocery store? I used to shop at the store when it was a Gerlands, so the property has been there for over 25 years. As a result, the grocery store was not "new" but was clean. I really like the store as it think it has the best bargains for produce, pre-packaged meats, and items on their isle of values. Check out their weekly ad for a great specials and a special coupon. The coupon is not available with the in-store ad so check your mail or newspaper. This week, I received a box of Cheerios for $0.99 with a $20 additional purchase. This location is small, but it does have some great bargains. Another plus with this location is that there are plenty of cashiers. I rarely have more than one person in front of me when I am trying to check out. The staff are friendly and this place should be considered as one of your grocery stops. read more

They do have some good deals on their produce and meat sometimes. But their dairy &dry goods prices are OUTRAGEOUS. $3.50 for a gallon of milk (cheapest). Ive also found a lot of expired dairy products on the shelves, so be sure to double check the dates. When checking out, be sure to watch the register. Sometimes the sale prices don't ring up, and they can accidently overcharge you (my cousin bought 4 rolls of paper towels & they keyed in a quantity of 44....). They are quick to fix any problems though, as long as you bring it to their attention. read more

You ever visit someone at an inpatient mental health facility? And you notice how it reeks of despair and resignation mixed in with urine and bleach? Well, that's what Food Town is like. But with groceries. Everything about this place is dodgy. The floors look like they are permanently embedded with dirt, and there is always some type of food spill somewhere. The parking lot always has broken glass somewhere, if not a dirty diaper or two thrown on the ground. The produce looks amazingly disgusting-if it's not bruised or browning, it's just a weird color. And the selection? Ha! Not a lot, especially if you like organic. Now granted, it's obvious from their prices and crappy graphics that Food Town is more about low prices rather than selection, but still. They could try just a little. Some items, like cheese, are priced very competitively, while others are priced low for awhile and then raised to something more comparable to a Randall's. Have I mentioned the people? The following is a true story, and I shit you not, every time I cave and go to Food Town, something in this same vein happens to me. I was in frozen foods, looking for some type of junky pizza snack, when around the corner comes this poor beleaguered woman pushing a cart with a screaming 7 year old. It becomes readily apparent that this brat is treated like a little prince as he harangues and harasses his mother and she DOES NOTHING but try and placate him and beg him to stop yelling. He was so obnoxious that when his mother turned around, I looked him in the eye, scowled, then stuck out my tongue. He froze in fear, but he also shut the hell up. I relay this not because I think it's Food Town's responsibility to curb this type of behavior, but because every time I go there, there are noisy, annoying people that I just don't seem to encounter at Kroger. Oh yeah, the employees? Most seem to be less than thrilled with their lot in life. And may take it out on you. In short: selection sucks, some prices pretty good, store is filthy, people are scary. This place is pretty sucktastic. It's old and tired looking. So the reviews thus far are on point. There are low prices and yes--that is probably it's major appeal. My favorite part of the store, however, is the soda section. There are a myriad of colors and brands--usually hovering around the 99 cent mark. The cheapest prices live here, and as long you don't need a deli counter, a butcher, a florist, or a baker - this is your place. You'll have to look past the dingy parking lot, and the rest of the store for that matter, as well as the occasional gnat hovering about the produce. But hey! They've got cheap prices and I'm on a budget thanks to these gas prices. Here's the low-down on this store. If you can find it - it's cheap. Produce is hit and miss (mostly miss). Sometimes the green peppers look great, sometimes they look like they were used for bowling practice the night before. And I wasn't kidding about the gnats - they hang out with the onions on occasion. The meat is great. Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast seems to always be on-sale for $1.77/lb. The beef and pork are also of good quality. I also seem to always find good deals on Bread, Frozen Vegetables, and Frozen Pizza. Today the Lettuce looked great, and I snagged a nice head of Romaine for 59 cents. Other varieties were also the same price. Basically, this is a no-frills grocery. You receive great bargains, but you also get small isles and a place that is showing it's age. And you can forget customer service. On a prior visit after I had paid for my groceries and was about to leave, the checker hopped up on to the counter and sat where my groceries just were. True Story. Simply put, this is not a safe place to shop. There have been shootings at this store in the last year because someone cut in line. This should tell you what kind of people patronize this store. My lazer temp gauge shows that their coolers are not up to spec, so that's another danger. Everyone there is extremely rude from the employees who never thank you to the customers that want to fight over a parking space. But I am writing this review because the level of rudeness and incompetence has reached staggering levels. Tonight the cashier woman never once greeted me (normal here), shorted me five dollars and never apologized when she had to give me my $5. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS EXACT SCENARIO HAS HAPPENED. This is a run down store. It looks dumpy, it is dumpy. Now, I have never had bad service from this store, but I really wish I didn't have to shop there (I live close and there are times I don't have time to go to another store). I've been to this store literally hundreds of times over the last 20 years. The produce is average to horrible in general. A few weeks back they had a shipment of bananas that looked like each one had been personally beaten with a stick! I couldn't find a good one in the whole batch. I've also gotten hamburger meat there dozens of times, and every time it's been gristley. It's not horrible, but it's not good. It's bad enough that I never buy meat there anymore. The prices are generally average. There's nothing special about the store except that they do have some unusual things, like cactus. If you have a choice, I'd suggest somewhere else. My kids have activities in the area so I ventured in this store to pick up some deals while waiting on my kids. It is SO not worth the dirtiness, the people and the danger to shop here The selection is limited and the hassle outweighs any savings. You are better off with Kroger's or HEB. Great store. I find everything I need when I come here and at a great price. They don't have everything like a big grocery store, it's simple and I like that. When you add in deli and bakery you just have to wait in line for food which can be frustrating when you're the get in get out kind of shopper. Early morning hours are best time to shop here, it gets really busy even with all the registers open. read more

This particular Food Town has improved greatly over the years. It may not have all the glitz and glamour of other grocery stores in the area, but I don't want glitz and glamour.
