We brought our…read moreanxious pup in with the goal of scheduling a sedation grooming appointment -- something we were told required an initial vet visit to establish care first. Fair enough. We followed through, paid several hundred dollars for his vet exam and other recommended services, and assumed we were on the right track. Fast forward to when I called to schedule the actual grooming: I spoke with a woman who was incredibly unprofessional, rude, and dismissive. She informed me (bluntly) that no groomers were taking on new clients -- something that would've been helpful to know before spending hundreds of dollars. When I expressed that, she offered no apology. Instead, she started sharing way too much personal information about staff members being out on PTO due to various family issues. I was shocked and uncomfortable. This is a business, not a therapy session -- I was calling to schedule a service, not hear about your internal staffing problems. Despite all this, I later received a call saying one groomer was willing to see our dog after all. Great -- we scheduled the appointment, and my husband even took PTO to be available. But the day before the appointment, we got another call canceling it because the groomer now had a personal issue. When I asked to reschedule, they flatly said no. No alternatives offered. No accountability. No care. We're now left scrambling to find a new provider -- but honestly, I'm relieved. If this is how they handle communication and client service, I wouldn't feel safe leaving our dog in their care anyway. Completely unprofessional, unreliable, and clearly not equipped to handle clients with even a basic level of respect.

West Jordan Veterinary Hospital - My dog at the vet

I had the most awful experience here with my dog. My dog had a bowel obstruction and we took him to…read morethe emergency vet and were quoted $12K to do the surgery. They told us to follow up with the regular vet the next day and it would knock a couple grand off. When we first arrived, I told this to the vet tech at West Jordan Veterinary Clinic and he agreed it was pricey. Knowing we didn't have anywhere near the amount of money to save our dog, we wanted to talk about euthanasia so he wouldn't die a slow painful death. We tried 2 days of fluids, walks, etc to try to get the obstruction to move and it didn't. I went in the next day ready to euthanize if it hadn't moved. My dog was in a lot of pain, not eating, not drinking, and couldn't lie down. I was told the obstruction didn't move, in fact, that cray revealed another piece of blockage. I was given the option to hospitalize him for the day with more fluids or euthanize. We chose to euthanize because we were not willing to wait until he was in agony to put him down. I'm bawling my eyes out in a room when a vet tech comes in and starts yelling at me to surrender my dog. He told me someone at the clinic wanted me to sign the dog over to the clinic so they could pay for his surgery and then find him a "good home". Heavily implying that I am a bad dog owner. WHAT?! My dogs are loved and cared for and are treasured members of our family, and to be judged for not having $10K laying around is INSANE. Another tech joins in, i'm still bawling and having trouble breathing at this point. The vet comes in the room and sends them away. Then tells me that since the worker was willing to pay for the surgery he was no longer willing to euthanize. I thought this feels weird and manipulative and how dare they assume my dog doesn't have a good home. I wondered how is a stranger offering to pay $10K to fix my dog, and if she is going to rehome him, why can't I have him back? You want to put him through rehoming him at 8 years old? How is this is the best interest of the dog? Surgery and some trauma to go with it? I'm in the room thinking, and I can hear the vet techs in back making fun of me, one mocking the way I was crying. I ask the vet what he's charging her and a quote comes back for $2300. At this point i'm pissed, I ask if they can do better, and he comes back at $1800. I let them proceed with the surgery. At the end, charged $1300. This was all a money grab. I pick up my dog and again I hear vet techs in back making comments about how all of a sudden I cared enough about my dog to come pick him up. What? I literally picked him up an hour early. Fast forward to getting the stitches out, and I can hear my dog screaming in the back (he's a big baby) but a vet tech is yelling at him to "shut the **** up". Then when they bring him back to me, the vet tech was clearly recording our conversation without my consent and this made me very uncomfortable given how I was treated throughout this whole process. Let's be clear, you ALL failed miserably at your jobs here. Not a single one of you had the dogs best interest at heart. Money was more of a consideration then the dogs life. I asked about payment plans and was told no, extorting $10K out of me was more important to you than a dogs life. Not once during this was I ever treated with any sort of understanding, empathy, or kindness. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Don't take your pets here, they deserve better.

Having used both veterinary many times and boarding services on at least one occasion. Over the course of that relationship I have witnessed this once-respected veterinary clinic be hollowed out by corporate consolidation. What was once a mission-driven practice rooted in animal care has been reduced to a profit-maximizing enterprise where compassion is commodified. The transformation of veterinary clinics across the country is truly a blight. The field has become unrecognizable. Veterinarians now spend their days offering vague assessments, nudging clients towards the possibility of clarity via an endless stream of diagnostics and procedures, each meticulously priced to generate maximal revenue under the guise of "doing what's best for your pet." This isn't care. It's a business model designed to capitalize on emotion. I have no clue why anyone would choose to work in this field as it operates today. Financial entanglement with large clinic operators and PE firms is increasingly difficult to avoid. That's by design. But if you can find a locally owned, truly independent clinic, your pet is far more likely to receive care that prioritizes their well-being over profits alone.
