This animal hospital is very affordable and they get the job done. I would not recommend it though. There's a lady at the front desk that has horrible customer service. She's always got an attitude and she's just rude. I've had to snap at her a few times because of how obviously irritated and annoyed she was with her job. She also told me over the phone they euthanized my dog when my dog actually passed away from complications with anesthesia causing me to freak out and feel like they killed my dog then lied to me about it. The doctor refused to even break the news to me he called my mom instead. After this spay on my cat I will no longer return to this animal hospital for veterinary care. Get better receptionists and teach them how to treat patients and their animals with respect. read more

Brookside has been our clinic for at least 30 years caring for 8 of our pets from first shots to last moments. Always giving them the best care possible. Their receptionist and technicians are smart and courteous. The new app is wonderful. It is a 20 minute drive from our home to Brookside Animal Hospital and worth every minute. read more

TL;DR: They do good work here, but the logistics are all over the place, the vets are MIA unless you explicitly schedule an appointment with them, and I wish the front staff had better bedside manner for the pet parents. I've been in three or four times _very_ anxious about a checkup or a fix and the front staff, while receptive to questions (if you really press them), is quite obviously ready for you to leave out the door ASAP. We know you're busy, but please remember that this is routine for you, but a HUGE deal to the pet parents you interact with. --- Post fix operation, I get handed a handful of papers and a baggy with medicine that says "twice a day". Zero information otherwise. "It's all written down", they say. That's well and good, but can I please get a rundown? Maybe tell me how to give the cat her medicine? Maybe tell me how to _measure_ the dosage? Maybe help alleviate an obviously-concerned pet parent's concerns a LITTLE BIT. "She doesn't need a cone?" - "nope!" Look on the paper, in all caps: "DO NOT ALLOW YOUR PET TO LICK, SCRATCH, OR CHEW THE INCISION" How the heck do I keep a 5month old kitten from licking her incision 24/7?? Is it necessary to prevent 24/7?? (I still don't know the answers to these. I just went to the pet store and bought a dang cone) I know you guys are busy and it's got to be real wearing to deal with worried pet parents all day, but how is it that I've never even MET the vet who performed my cat's surgery? The surgery that requires my kitten to be stuck in a kennel by herself for 8 hours, thinking she's been abandoned? To blindly trust a doctor I've never even met. Maybe I needed to ask for this?? I had assumed because every other vet I've been to has the actual doctor talking to me. I had to GOOGLE to understand why (and how) to do the above procedures because asking at Brookside: I was met with short, unhelpful responses ("they are here that long because of the anesthetic *goes back to typing on computer*") and didn't feel comfortable pressing. (Personal problem, I know. I'm a sensitive snowflake, sorry) Very impersonal experience here outside of _actual_ checkups with the vet, which are as I would expect and I have nothing but positive things to say about the vet. Additionally, PLEASE allow scheduling appointments for vaccines. Super annoying for someone - exceedingly blonde - like me to get instructions "Oh, any time after x date you can just show up and check-in. We don't make appointments for those". Great, that means I'm sitting in the parking lot with my stressed out cat for 30min-1hr until someone is available to give my cat her shots, AFTER the 30min stressful car ride. It doesn't hurt to ask "Do you have any questions or concerns I can help you with?" with genuine interest. Give me 5 minutes of your time!!! I don't think I've had a single front-desk employee make eye contact with me, for crying out loud. --- At the end of the day, I truly believe the vets and staff here _care_; and again, they DO do good work, they are just not good at showing it and have very little interest in comforting or explaining things to pet owners. I know you do this stuff all the time, but for us, this is a HUGE deal and we are worried sick about our animals. Why would I go to a vet that doesn't make me feel confident, content, or help me understand the why/how of what's going on when I'm quite obviously confused? Again, a lot on me too for not pressing things, I'm just awkward and uncomfortable talking to people in general. I don't have the disposition to press for information that should be offered from a disinterested vet tech. I made the decision to blindly trust Brookside with my kitten (got to trust one of them, right?) and it's gone well so far, but like a bad relationship, the lack of communication is something I don't think is a good fit for me. read more

Her and her team are the only people i feel confidant in when my fur babies health is in question. I would say that the care I received in the past for one of my pets was good and compassionate. Where this place is very lacking is in record keeping, they had no record of the past service that I purchased from them and even though I have proof of purchase and payment to them. When I called today to schedule an appointment for one of my dogs they said that since I was not in their system they would not see my dog and that they are not taking new patients. They should have the decency and professionalism to post this on their internet pages. read more

There is no other, like Dr. Karma. Her main concern are the animals, not the dollar signs, like so may other places. She's kind and gentle and has the patience of a saint. Her front office ladies are warm and kind and try their best to accommodate. If you don't have an appointment, you'll be sitting in the front office for a while but, they will see you. I gave them five stars because i really liked the vet that saw my dachshund who went in to get fixed. A family member recommended this vet to me. So far so good. But i have to agree with the other reviews, the woman with the long blonde hair is incredibly rude. I watched her throw a mini tantrum at another receptionist right in front of everyone. SO unprofessional and it bothered me also because the woman was obviously much much older. Inappropriate. Other than that though, the vet was great. And luckily the receptionist that helped us was not cranky or rude in the slightest. I also rated this five stars because it was very affordable. I use Cottonwood animal hospital only when i have emergency's on the weekends. On a regular basis they are way too expensive and money driven. (Recommended and pushed for VERY VERY EXPENSIVE back surgery on our other dachshund. We opted out of surgery and instead put her on some temporary meds and bed rest. That was three years ago and now she's still living a happy healthy life.) read more

I took my new puppy in to Brookside the week before Christmas, which is right in my neighborhood because I heard the staff was friendly and the vet there was nice. However, my experinece could not have been described that way at all. As I walked through the door, carrying my new puppy in a blanket, I encountered a woman who asked abruptly, "Why are you here?" I said, "I have a new puppy." To which she replied, "Yeah, so why are you here?" as if she were preterbed by my interruption of her day. "I was told I needed to have my new puppy seen by a vet for a checkup," I replied. She let out an exasperated sigh, "Well, we're really busy today. The vet's in surgery until 4:00 and I don't have any appointments until after January." I was kind of stunned, this woman never said, "hello", "how can I help" and not only did not behave as if a new business relationship opportunity had just waked in her door, but rather as if my attemp to open a relationship was a horrible burdon. "I don't think I want to bring my puppy here at all." I said as I turned around a left. I then took my puppy to Cottonwood Animal Hospital. The staff there was warm, friendly and excited to see me, a new customer, and gladly offered to make an appointmnet and put my puppy on a schedule for checkups and shots. The contrast was amazing! My family has taken our pets to Brookside for years and lately the service has dwindle into TERRIBLE. The last experience I had there was my dog had become ill and of course they didn't have any openings for 3 weeks but I had the option of going and waiting for 2 1/2 hours where they could "try" to see me, so I went. Like I said my dog was sick and had an accident in the waiting area, when this happened I apologized and said I would clean it up, when one of the women at the counter snapped at me because my dog got sick and actually asked me "what is wrong with your dog". I eventually saw the vet, just so she could barely look at my dog, when I questioned to vet about my dogs teeth and weight, which I have repeatedly asked help on before, the vet responded "She's an older dog and I am not that concerned with it". We have obviously stopped taking our dogs there and switch to Cottonwoood Animal Hospital, which is actually out of our way but we know that they are actually treating our dogs and show concern for them. When we took our dog there, they shared in our concern about her teeth and weight, I am happy to say that she since has gotten surgery and her teeth are fine now and are working on her weight. It's upsetting to know that her surgery could have been prevented if Brookside would have help her when asked for it rather then ignoring it because she is older. read more

Even tho my dad had a terrible experience with brookside animal clinic I thought I would give them a chance. I had my cat scheduled to be neutered today and they never mentioned my cat had to fast. They wanted to reschedule me for another month out after they rescheduled already. They do not have their shit together I won't trust them with my cat if they aren't even able to give me a simple detail about what's needing done before surgery. I am a first time cat owner I don't know these details it is their job to give ALL the details prior to the event. Also, they are not nice the lady was snobby about the situation when I was clearly frustrated for THEIR mistake! I don't even know how this place is still up and running they need to be shut down they clearly don't know what the hell they are doing. read more

Brookside has taken care of all our animals the four ladies at the front desk are really nice and pleasure to work with. Whenever we come in there is always a full waiting area to be seen because Dr. Taylor is that good. We don't like having to bring our little friends to the vets by it's. I tried to take my dog into Brookeside for an inflamed and infected paw. I've had previous experiences with the doctor and was really looking forward to getting him into Dr Taylor. I'm sure she would have been amazing but the front reception staff was miserable to talk to and wouldn't even listen to my situation. They refused my service and wouldn't let me make an appointment. I would give this vet 0 stars if that had been available. I had a horrible experience there when my dog broke her leg. They told me that they had performed surgery & put pins in her leg. She came home in a "spoon" splint. Once she was supposedly healed, her foot would flip under from front to back, so instead of standing on the pad she was standing on what would be the back of the wrist in a human. When I had her checked at another vet, they told me that no surgery had been done & that there were no pins. There wasn't anything that could be done at that point in time, so she lived with the disability of her foot not functioning well for the rest of her life. I hear other horror stories from folks at work whenever Brookside comes up. P.S. It's the mother of the vet that is at the front counter most of the time & she is a monster to deal with! read more

I'm giving 2 stars because the vet himself was great and the receptionists were kind. However, I also had an experience with the blond woman that I think needs to be shared. She is terrible and should probably find another profession. This is the post I put on facebook today. I took my dog to the vet for the first time this morning and I thought I'd let you all know how it went in case any of you are looking too. We took him to Brookside Animal Hospital. The receptionists were kind and helpful and the doctor himself was very kind and good to him and understanding of his puppy energy. Everything went great until the end. I had asked them to teach me how to trim his nails because he is a little big and I was afraid of going too far and hurting him. Because of his size, the doctor went to get an assistant. He brought in some blond woman that I had noticed in the lobby and had already noticed that she didn't seem like a very nice person. This woman can only be described as a raging b****. She treated my dog horribly. He was fighting a bit but then she was careless and cut one nail way too far and he started bleeding. It obviously hurt him because he started to freak out. They ended up having to muzzle him to stop the bleeding and finish the front even with the doctor and I trying to hold him. By the time it was over, he was growling and barking so loud the kids could hear him in the lobby. He was so upset he was foaming at the mouth, peed all over the floor and dumped his anal glands. It was awful! And all because she couldn't slow down and didn't care that she had hurt him. What was even worse is that she had the nerve to chastise me for trying to talk to him and calm him down. She told me I should not reward him for his behavior. She said that I should not use kind words "when he acts like this" and that I should really work on being able to touch his feet. I told her I have NEVER seen him act like that and I can touch his feet when I want to. I was so angry that I thought it best to stop speaking to her. As I was leaving, she followed me out to make sure I knew it could have been prevented by walking him on pavement. This I knew but it's not easy to do in the dead of winter with kids at home! So, I DO NOT recommend them but only because of her. If you want to go there just keep the woman with the stringy blond hair away from your pets. read more

We have take our animals here for years. The staff has NEVER been friendly but the vets and prices were decent.. we also have never needed much more than vaccinations... this week my dog had to be taken in because of a wound on his leg. After being kenneled 8 hours my dog came out in distress and we were sent away thinking he had just gotten stitches. When we got to the car we noticed they had placed a drain!! I had to go back in and figure out what had happened and what our follow up needs were. They would have just let us leave. A week goes by and we go in to have the drain removed. A tech comes in and removes the stitches that were not supposed to be removed for another week. They now have to put staples in to do the job the original stitches were supposed to do. My dog is completely stressed and I'm completely shocked by the incompetence. The vet came in to the room to explain the miscommunication with no sense of remorse or even an apology. Just stated the wound would now need staples for another week.. I'm so frustrated and blown away by the incompetence and lack of communication in this office. read more

Avoid like the plague.........My dog was walking weird and falling over, I took him to Brookside Animal Shelter after about a 2 hour wait the Vet finally came out and looked my dog. Within a few minutes he stated it would be best to euthanize the dog.... I opted for a second opinion took him to another Vet, the second Vet gave him some Antibiotics and a Thyroid hormone. My dog is now fine, walking and playing normally. Thank god I didn't take the word of the Vet at Brookside read more

I love the vet's themselves and have been going there for two years, but the ladies who work the desk and answer the phones are seriously lacking in personality and customer service. I called yesterday morning when they opened to see if they could see my dog who became ill on Sunday night. Being as he's nearly 15 old I was not willing to "wait and see". The lady who picked up the phone (they always answer saying "Brookside" in a very dry tone) put me on hold to check the schedule. This lasted 5 minutes, which I understand with it being Monday morning and all, but when she came back she said they had nothing available until the next day. I understand that also, but when I asked if I could give her my cell # in case there was a cancellation she cut me off said the entire days appointments were confirmed and it would have to be Tuesday. OK, then. So I called Animal Crackers, which is nearby and I'd never been to before and it was the same thing as their doctors were in surgeries until 2 pm on Monday but I could bring him in at 1:30 in case surgeries ended early. They did indeed, and Dr. Taylor saw us immediately. He was awesome!Oh, and their desk staff answers the phone courteously and in a nice manner, unlike Brookside.Like I mentioned before, I love the vets at Brookside, but you'd think they'd see a pattern here with their front desk help as it seems to be the most common complaint. Everyone has a bad and busy day, but they've got to fix this immediately. read more

I called Brookside when my dog stopped eating/drinking and started vomiting and having diarrhea. They said "oh, that sounds serious. Can you get here in 30 minutes? I'll set aside an appointment". I'd never been there before, but it popped up on google and we needed to get my dog in ASAP. At first I was very impressed with their sense of urgency. When we got there, we waited for 2 hours to see anyone, and they charged us the "walk-in" fee even though I called and was told that I had an appointment. The front desk attendents were unkempt and rude. The lobby was unclean and extremely unwelcoming. The desk attendants chatted away and horsed around with one another while there were clients waiting to be helped. They did not seem to care that they had a lobby full of people and their sick best friends who needed their help. Once they finally called us back, Dr. Karma Taylor (who I actually liked during the exam) was kind and thorough, and she called us the next day to tell us that our dog had an adrenal disease. She said she would call me back in a few minutes to tell me if she had the treatment plan ready or if she needed to order it in. No one ever called me back. I called the next day to follow up and was told "oh, the doctor is busy. I'll have her call back". Again, no one called me back. After calling repeatedly the next day, and being blown off time after time, I finally decided to take her somewhere else (Animal Cracker's Veterinary Hospital, which was AWESOME). They fixed my dog up (and it turns out she DIDN'T have what the Brookside vet said she did) and not until TWO DAYS AFTER my dog's overnight stay did Brookside ever call me back. TERRIBLE service. I love my dog way too much to ever take her back to Brookside. Had I waited for Brookside to call me back, my dog would have died from the kidney infection going untreated. No only that, but the prednisone that Brookside wanted to get her on for what they said was an adrenal disease would have surpressed her immune system, making it impossible for her little body to fight off the infection. I shudder to think of what may have happened had we not given up on Brookside and taken her elsewhere. read more

We just moved to Utah and had yet to find a Vet. We have two dogs and one of our dogs began experiencing the inability to run or jump. He was obviously in terrible pain. We went to Brookside toward the end of the day and they gave us two different pain pills and said to come back if he didn't get better. He didn't get better, so we took him back and they did X-rays. The doctor told me she wasn't sure about the x-rays and wanted a Radiologist to review them. The next day our dog was in so much pain, it was horrible to watch. We called the hospital three times and no one got back to us. The next morning, we called again and at 9 am was told none of the doctors were in yet???? Why???? I told the receptionist the problem, that no one bothered to call us back and that if they were unable to help us, tell me, but our dog is in horrible pain. My husband happened to call right after me and they told him we should go to AVCS as they couldn't help us and the Radiologist had called and wasn't coming in. Additionally, the feel of this office is unsettling to me. don't expect chandeliers , but I've been to enough over the years and I do expect some effort in cleanliness and appeal. This office just felt unclean and that no effort at all was put into making it somewhat appealing and comfortable. Unfortunately our dog ended up with Lymphoma and died two days later. read more

I cannot even fathom giving Brookside a star but I was forced to in order to finish my review. We have been going to this hospital for the past 14 years plus well since 1995 anyway. So our prejudice against this vet stems from the improper treatment of the staff. Very inconsiderate people working here, they have never been overly friendly but they were not as rude as they have been for the past two years or so. We rarely visit due to our pets not having many ailments. Well my oldest girl is sick, she is 14 years and not much time left on the clock. I can attest the "vet" that helped us yesterday December 31, 2010 was not unpleasant but I can say I did not have confidence in him. My girl is NOT happy, now saying this I realize many dogs and other animals do not like a visit to the vet. My girl never has been unhappy always a wag in her tail and a smile on her face. Last two visits she has been unhappy with the visits and this last time for obvious reasons she is not feeling good. It is getting close to her time, I have to say when a vet is unable to listen to the owner of the animal there is a moment when you question, "Is this really where I want my animal to be looked at, examined, or entrusted?" I have to say NO! If any future people ask me where to take there animals it will no longer be Brookside Animal Hospital. Sad to say! read more

9-2-2010 My mom took her 4 year old maltese to get her teeth cleaned. Only when we picked her up we were told ,very coldly, that she had 17 teeth pulled. When I ask why we were not contacted or when I had called to check on her, we were not told she had 17 teeth pulled. We are both devasted by the way were told. When I called the clinic to vent my frustration and was told ,by the vet Karma, they did not charge very much to have the teeth pulled and they were very bad. When I told her we would not be coming back to the clinic, she said okay bye. We had taken her in to the clinic on July 22, 2010 and Karma had just said she needed her teeth cleaned but no mention of infection or anything else. An antibiotic would have helped her then, we checked with another vet. We will NEVER go to this clinic again. read more

I have taking my pets to Brookside from the age of 14. It was a place my mother found that was great with our animals and a staff that really did seem to care. I am now in my 30s and I am still taking my pets here. That's over 20 years I have been coming here. I love the staff and the doctors who treat my dogs. I have look at other location close to my home and have found that the cost is much to high compared to Brookside. And the staff at the other location I tried made me feel more like I was at a DMV rather that a animal hospital. I was a client for quite awhile before moving out of the area recently. Their prices are great. Part of the staff is wonderful and part of the staff is very rude, abrupt, and inconsiderate. The vet is down to earth, friendly, competent, and extremely helpful in a number of situations and emergencies. Wonderful. The only thing I wonder about her is she completely failed to recognize that one of my pets' symptoms were due to a common (serious and ultimately fatal) condition at a point when treatment would have been very beneficial and enhanced its length and quality of life. I also like Cottonwood Hospital very much (if I could afford it on a routine basis) and have experience with them. It is wonderful there EXCEPT they are extremely expensive and try to make as much money as they can. Brookside tries to save you money, even if they are poor at customer service. Brookside also has enough of a faithful clientele base that they do not usually take new clients. Current clients can bring in new pets, however. read more
