I was there for 6 hours. There were times I waited for 2 hours at a time without anyone checking in or updating me on wait times. I literally had no idea what was going on for the first 2.5 hours. And then when someone would come tell me the plan it would be another hour with no word. I completely get being busy, I understand not being able to control power outages, but it is inexcusable to not have someone updating me or anyone else for that matter every 20-30 minutes on wait times, change of plans, etc. I missed my uncles funeral viewing because I didn't know it would take 6 hours. Never have I had such an exhausting experience being emotionally blind and helpless. The doctor was kind. The front desk staff were kind enough, they just seemed indifferent which sucks. We are bringing our animals to you, they're a part of our families and we are obviously worried. Please work on the compassion. And then to have my "price quote" that they talked with me about with the tablet be over $150 difference at check out was shocking. The tablet price should've been mentioned as a starting point and then "this could go up depending on changes that need to be made while you're here." so no one is blindsided. It's been a day. I don't want to be a Debbie downer, and I can give Grace and maybe all the employees are having an off day themselves- but employee training and customer care changes need to be made for sure. I will not be bringing my dog back here if I can avoid it in the future because I don't have the emotional bandwidth to do that again under the same circumstances. read more

We had to put our dog down. If you've ever had to do so it's one of the most emotional and unpleasant experiences. Mountain Valley was pleasant to work with. They were able to get us in same day unlike other vets when we knew she had cancer. They also took us same day 3 weeks later when we said our goodbyes. The room was spacious. Although the carpet was really wet and we had to ask for an extra blanket to sit on so we could be with our dog during her last minutes. As I write this I'm tearing up inside remembering her last moments with our family. My husband paid to have her ashes boxed up and her paw print memorialized. It was done beautifully and personally hand delivered to our door by someone. That last touch of the hand delivery really made me appreciate this facility and while I hope not to have to use them again soon, I wouldn't hesitate. read more

I have been regularly using the Mountain West location in Layton for my dog who has a heart condition. I have been happy with their annual service and prescription for that purpose. I needed to get a specialist consult on my dog for an illness, and my regular vet recommended I see my heart doctor since he is also an veterinary internist. I tried to schedule something at the Layton location but apparently the internist spends more time at the Bluffdale location. I was able to get an appointment more than a week sooner by choosing Bluffdale, which is a bit of a drive from my home. I was anxious to get his evaluation sooner than later because my dog was very sick. The staff was friendly and got me to a room quickly, but then I waited quite a while for the doctor. He finally saw my dog and we discussed the issues and the recommendation from my regular vet. The doctor did the regular annual heart ultrasound, but did not do the requested testing that my regular vet asked for. He came back and said my dog's heart looked ok, but that she needed some additional meds for inflammation of her arteries. He did not seem to have any ideas on my dog's other symptoms from the illness and suggested it was her bad teeth and told me to get her in for a dental cleaning. He did not seem to have read my regular vet's report or listened to my discussion of what we had already tried prior to coming in. He prescribed some additional medicines and that was it. His technician said to check back in a few days via email and see how my dog was doing on his treatment plan. When emailing to check in, I received no reply for over a week, and the reply was not helpful. I tried to call both the Bluffdale and the Layton locations and left several messages, but no one ever called me back. I left my appointment in Bluffdale feeling that I wasted my time, money and gasoline coming down for absolutely nothing new. I could have waited to get my dog's annual heart work done in Layton. I ended up going back to my regular vet with a plea for help and have been working with them since. It turned out that my dogs illness was not related to bad teeth at all. I'm so grateful to my regular vet for listening to me and not putting my 13 year old dog with a heart condition under anesthesia. I would not recommend going to Mountain West for anything short of an emergency. They do not seem to care about the pets they see coming in. Their medication costs are also 50% higher than the same medications at my regular vets office. read more

They didn't offer me a payment plan but when I got room to pick my dog up, there was a card that offered payment plans that could've saved his life, but they didn't tell me about that because all they cared about was getting money, lots of money. I'm on a fixed income, Social Security and they kept wanting my whole paycheck for a month. I got my little baby away from them. But he passed away in my arms on the way to my veterinarian. There are other emergency I would use them stay away from West emergency veterinarians. read more

Everyone here was very sweet and understanding. They initially estimated about a 4 hours wait time but seeing my pugs condition they were able to see her in a quarter of the time and help her feel better. They offer a drop off service where you can leave your pet in their care while they are waiting for the dogtor which is incredibly convenient and reassuring that our pet was being watched over by medical professionals even before being seen by her Vet. They were able to offer us both inpatient and outpatient options for treatment and ultimately our pup came home feeling better. Thank you to all of you! read more

Be aware!!!! Do Not Take Your Pet Here!!! On April 22, 2025 I took my dog to get checked at Mountain West Veterinary Specialist for an injury on his left foreleg due to a fall. The Veterinarian that helped us was not very polite or personable and lacked on empathy. After he examined my dog he said that he might just be over reacting and was being dramatic because it didn't seemed to be broken from the exam he was doing on him, he said this after he tried to make my dog stand on his 4 legs and he just went flat on his belly and was not able to stand After the X-rays he found out that 4 of his metacarpal bones were broken and would need to be on a splint for 4 weeks, it would also require for his bandage to be changed every week That first time they put him on the splint was the only time that it was put correctly. Every time week after that it was too high up under his foreleg preventing him from being able to walk comfortably and making him limp more, therefore we had to keep going back every time for them to change it, having to waste extra hours of our time waiting and arguing with them for charging us again for something they didn't do right. at week 4 we took him again for them to do X-rays and they said that he had to keep his splint for another 4 weeks or longer because it was supposedly not healed yet, even though he was showing signs of a lot of pain and inflammation. 2 weeks after that, they put a new splint but since we had complaint about them putting it too high every time they put it very low causing it to come off 2 days after. We took him back that same day that it came off but they still charged us and did not take any accountability for it Being tired of their bad service I decided to take him to a different Veterinarian a week after to change his bandage.The news I got from the new vet made me sick to my stomach and very upset when he told me that he had necrosis and if he would of kept his splint for a few more days the infection would of spread and it would of require for him to get his foreleg amputated Early detection on this condition is very crucial, something that the veterinarians at Mountain West Veterinary failed do by not finding or and finding and informing me of this condition and this is a result of inappropriate treatment and negligence. read more

I only raised my rating up a 3 star until I actually have to go back in for a bandage change and if I get the treatment that I did the night of the emergency then I will review and adjust my rating. Avoid this place if you care for your pets. I'm already going through a lot with a kid in this and her dog got hurt and initially they were great. The problems started the next day when I came in for a bandage change. Which during the first visit we asked if there was any additional charge after this and they said no and I also have it on recording. They charged me 55 dollars for a brand charge. I tried arguing with them about that and they changed their story twice just in five minutes especially after I played the recording of the complete conversations on the first visit. They also recommended that I had to do this everyday for possibly months. I personally told them that I would not be able to afford that and they just said use or sign up for care credit. I asked them what they are using so I could do it home till I found a MUCH BETTER PLACE TO GO. I have asked to spark with someone higher and they completely ignored me. I'm just to the point that they are doing everything they can do to take advantage of everyone's urgent situation and not being completely forward when it comes with additional chargers that they keep claiming that they said and the recording says different. I completely pissed off now and I can't believe a place that this is still around. read more

We just moved to this area and I had no idea where to take my sick dog.Someone recommended MOUNTAIN WEST in DRAPER. I cannot say enough good things about ALL of the staff, they were all great. I was dreading it, but had hope my little girl would be fine but knowing in my heart she would not be. The vet Sabrina was FABULOUS, CARING and thorough. Did just the tests I wanted, listened to me. As I had been breeding for 40 years, most vets get defensive when talking to a breeder.Not Sabrina, she agreed and knew exactly what I was talking about.The vet tech that helped her was also very very nice. I would recommend this hospital to anyone for any reason. Best new experience I have ever had. read more

I had to bring my dog in after he cut himself at the pet sitter. The staff was amazing! They were so friendly to me and of course my dog. It as an after hours visit, I was expecting the bill to be well over 800 dollars, but it was very fair! THE BEST PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PET!!! I just went to a different vet hospital and they sucked so bad it made me want to write a review of how incredible this place is!!! They have the most understand people working there! I felt heard and like they had my best interest in mind! I went at 4 am and was frazzled and scared for my dog and they put me at ease and explained everything to me! I felt in such good hands here! They were so knowledgeable and I seriously cannot praise them enough! And after they suggested I get pet insurance and multiple nurses told me about their favorite ones and went through options. Completely outside what they are required to do! They're just so helpful and nice! It wasn't trying to sell me on anything or because the hospital is partnered with anyone. It was about the options I have available and what would work best for me and my puppy! Seriously the most kind and loving staff ever!!! I will recommend them until the day I die! I'm in pleasant grove so I tried to go to one closer to my house and it was the complete opposite experience and had me in tears! I wish I had made the drive to go back to mountain west!!!! Bluffdale location. It has taken me since January 22, 2025 to even begin to write down how horrific my experience with this facility was, without breaking down. From the frontline staff, to the care, to the aftercare. My first visit with my badly injured puppy was met with an annoyed "You know we DO have other patients here too" . This was in response to my question about her comment, "it will be a minute, we have some complications", which I had initially thought referred to my dog. This same vibe goes all the way to the day of my dogs death 4 days later when the vet notified me of her passing - promising me a call back because she was in-between shifts. I waited and waited and finally drove to see my dog - Only to find she had already been in the freezer. When I got there the aftercare person then confused my dog with another "Daisy" in the facility and I had to ask her to go doublecheck she had the right one! I was denied the chance to say goodbye to my dog (in an unfrozen state) due to the above incompetence. But to TOP IT OFF, when I called the contracted crematory a couple days later, they did not have record of my dog. I called Mountain West and the frontline staff told me they did not have record of my dog still being there. It took them over 45 min, for who I believe was the office manager, to call me back to let me know my dog had been placed in the wrong freezer and apologizing. They then expedited her cremation for me. The night before my dog passed, during a visit, the vet tech mentioned I could take her home that night. (this was close to 9pm) I commented that my dog has drains, The vet has made no effort to speak to me in person, and I do not know how to clean drains, care for drains, or shown how to properly change her multiple dressings, and asked how much another night would be (I was on night 4) she then proceeds to show me how to drain the drains right there in the visiting room...on top of a blanket that had another dogs hair all over it. Because of my lack of training for her care, I left my dog there another night thinking overnight care would be safer. At 5:37 am that next morning, the notes say "no concerns" and at 6:40 she was in respiratory arrest and passed After speaking to the Facility Administrator for both locations , I was assured the staff would have empathy training. (They should be prepared for the emotions of the client who brings in an injured animal and treat them with respect and kindness, not as if your working at a fast food counter). Both the office manager and the facility manager apologized for the mistrust they caused. I appreciate the responsiveness they had with my concerns, however it does not and will not ever make up for my awful experience. I have notified the first EM vet facility I visited (Blue Pearl was fantastic but was not an overnight facility) who recommended Mountain West to me and also let them of know of my concerns about their recommendation. Note: Do NOT wait for them to call you back, you MUST call them if you want an update. If you want a copy of medial records, ask for the detailed records not just a summary, they will not just hand those over. (The surgical vet did not even have any notes of what occurred during my dogs surgery on Jan 20 -until I requested the records day and days later. On that same date, Feb 3, is when he entered the information) to end, I hope no one dealing with a tragic experience with their pet ever has to have such a horrible treatment ON TOP of the agony and heartache already being managed. My dog passed away here and the third-party company who handled the cremation delivered him a week ago, and this facility failed to call me for an entire week letting me know my dog had been delivered, and the employees were extremely rude and passive aggressive after they had made a mistake. read more

It's a huge, beautiful facility, with no doctors in sight. I was the only patient there, and after 20 minutes sitting in a room, I asked the lady at the front desk how much longer it would be. She talked to someone and came back with, "no idea". So, I left. It might work in an emergency or pinch, but I would never make it my go-to vet. read more

Going to a veterinary emergency hospital was new to us and we fully expected a long wait as well as it being very expensive. I am happy to be able to write a review of me being wrong in these expectations. Dr. Jeff Simmons was so kind and patient with us the first time we went in about a month ago with our pregnant cat. Last night we had to go back for an abscess on one of our kitten's head. Katie and the staff was so sweet with our tiny little girl and clearly loved this part of their jobs. very upset with how the vet handled our situation, states "yes there's something definitely wrong" with our dog and then as soon as i tell them i don't have $3300 to hospitalize him just for fluids (he's drinking water just fine) apparently the vet "isn't worried about it" anymore, not to mention I was there for 6 hours and had to drop hundreds of more dollars just for someone to tell me they don't care about my dogs symptoms anymore and let's just add the vet WOULD NOT come into the room she always had a messenger. do not recommend at all read more
