    Just outside the State rooms
    Doug M.

We recently had to lay a loved one to rest. They had a prepaid plan through Brookside. During the entire process, I found the staff here to be extremely helpful during a difficult time. The embalming process took place quickly giving us the opportunity to have an open casket funeral for our loved one a week after death. Also, they did a very good job making our loved one presentable for viewing. I can't speak directly about pricing for someone who does not have a prepaid plan but as far as the service we received, we were extremely satisfied. We did use one of the state rooms for a viewing. We did not use the chapel for our service. It was held at an offsite location. However, the chapels here are very nice. They look relatively new and are very updated. They also have a kitchen area available for catering if it is needed. They told me some people use their chapel for weddings too but that really sounded creepy to me. I do not hesite to give them 5-stars based solely on our experience. I hope this helps. If you are actually reading this review, I assume it may be a difficult time for you now. You have my condolences. If you found this review useful, funny, or cool, please let me know below. Thanks for reading.

    Marker 's Vase stolen

Theft! Theft! My mother is buried here and I recently lost her a few years ago . She is buried on the outer limited of the extension side of Brookside cemetery. It is a constant action of theft .First, it was her flowers and decorations BUT NOW IT WAS HER $300 BRONZE VASE THAT WAS CHAINED DOWN IS STOLEN. I reported to BROOKSIDE OFFICE and I talk to a Brookside cemetery's worker that was completely useless . He offered a 50 bucks vase that has no value and continue his stories on how this a normal thing of people stealing from graves. I suggest that there should be SOLAR PANELS CAMERAS at the extension side of Brookside to prevent this constant THEFT, but his response was that was above his pay grade. Maybe it is above his pay grade but this solution of cameras should be brought to the attention of upper management.

I want to say a great thumbs up to Kitty Arnold for being so quick to help me with a missing vase for my sisters grave stone.

Most of my family is buried here and I find this place pretty nice with the way they are setup with the different garden names. I'm always amazed at how many new rows of graves get added during each visit. It helps me remember where my final resting place will be before meeting my Lord. I feel the staff here are very kind and helpful. Recently I was stuck when I locked my keys in the car. I called the front office and they sent the gravedigger to my rescue, and he helped me unlock the car. During my wait time I thought of how the folks who have passed are in their graves with no escape, but if I could get back inside my vehicle I could drive off and either do more good or bad in life. These moments seem to help me remember my mission in life...to be good, help others, and worship my Creator as he instructed me to. There are a mixture of different gardens for different faiths which is always enlightening. Garden #9 is where most of my loved ones rest. I go here to find peace and pray for them and it helps me to remember death. Many people may disagree with my previous statement, but being reminded is good. Remember that if you feel the need to contemplate the graveyard is a great place. It should not be thought of as a depressing place, but as a place where we will eventually go before meeting our Maker. Take a seat on a bench in the garden and reflect on your life. This yelp review not only serves as a review of the cemetery but should help serve to let one sit and think and review themselves before it is too late. Be good to one another and be honest and kind. By 1874, Glenwood was a recreational destination. A mule-drawn street railway operated on Washington Road, conveying people to Glenwood for weekend and holiday visits. Glenwood differs from most urban cemeteries of that time that had a grid pattern. Glenwood has meandering roads and trails and is beautifully landscaped. This historic cemetery is the final resting place of a number of individuals who were citizens of the short-lived Republic of Texas as well as famous citizens of Houston, Harris County and the state of Texas. One of the most famous buried here is Howard Hughes. The cemetery is a fun place to walk or bike ride, it's very shady so quite nice, even in summer. I was there as the new year came and enjoyed seeing many beautiful monuments.
