I was unsure if I wanted to post this, but I was so impressed at the whole process of this funeral home experience. From the moment I walked into the building my mouth was open they left no detail unturned. They left no stone unturned and even though it was a sad occasion there was no reason to be sad. They did an amazing job. The details were on point from the presentation to the Repass dinner afterwards which was so convenient you didn't have to move your car during the entire process, we don't think about these things until we need it. But preplan burial is the best way to go. Family don't have to remember or guess what your wishes are. Everything you planned is executed and more. Check out the picture memorial. So it appears that my original post was taken down. This whole process with brookside has been a nightmare. My mother preplanned her funeral several years ago and I was apart of that process. It went great while they were taking the money. I lost my mom in Feb and it was a disaster from then on out and continues 8 months later. For the services we had them pick a clergy because mom did not have one. We paid him i think 300-500 dollars. My sister-in-law handed me a letter my mom wrote several years ago for things for her funeral. One of those things were for my BIL to speak at the funeral. So I went to the clergy that we had hired and told him I wanted my BIL to speak as well and was told he could have 3-5 mins. The cards on the flowers got pulled off each arrangement and when we ask who sent what for thank you's they could not tell us, They just took the cards and stuck them on a plant. We only found this out because my cousin questioned why my work card was on his arrangement. I ordered a necklace from them with my mom's fingerprint and was told 1 month. 4 months later I got it. I went to the funeral home to order my mom's headstone. We designed it and thank GOD i took a picture of it on the screen because when they called me 90 days later and told me it was installed it was the wrong headstone color. We spoke to I think Joel and were told he would get it reordered that Monday. I called today a month later and the lady I spoke with could not tell me it has even been reordered yet. and I had to send her the picture again proving that what is there is not what we ordered. The day I ordered the headstone I also ordered another necklace for my daughter On August 7th I requested an update on the necklace and was told on the 8th to please allow another 7-10 days this was after ordering it on June 28th. I finally received a call I think on Oct 1st that the necklace was finally in. They had not even ordered it until Mid-August. It is a shame because every person on my mother's side is buried in this cemetery. I will definitely not be holding any of my services here or in another brookside alliance. read more

in January mom passed the funeral was at Brookside on lauder. Rita was to host as an apology a dove release for mom noon May. called Wednesday before to confir. Monday was the day. we get there nothing set up. family some drove 2+ hours to get there. funeral home was clueles. Rita's boss was to call she emailed and asked for our informatio. we received nothing now on their web page my negative post was delete. this is a small example how they work. promise after promise broken. charge $900 to process insurance. wrong lining in coffin, service was all messed up. nothing was set like normal services. I would and have thought twice before I would use the funeral home. Rita is a joke. read more

I was very disappointed by the elder woman at the front desk. I asked her if I could get a schedule of when the lawn is mowed, when they mow the lawn, they throw away all personal items on the grave. I have gone several times when all of my flowers and personal items were thrown away because they have mowed the grass. I actually thought my items were being stolen. I asked the elder lady for the lawn schedule and she told me no, she would not let me know, and that there were "signs" all over when they would cut the lawn. I have seen absolutely no signs anywhere. She was extremely rude and disrespectful, this is not the industry for that, people are grieving. This is truly disheartening when I'm not sure when all of my personal items will be thrown away. I have also sent emails for the schedule and have received no response. read more

I am a VERY particular person with high expectations, especially for something as important and "once in a lifetime" as a funeral. I cannot tell you how completely impressed I was with the staff at Brookside Funeral Home @ Lauder Road. There was an issue on the cemetery side from 2006 related to our current family death situation and it was handled professionally and positively by the Director, Ray Brokken and his colleague Nancy. The care and compassion shown by these individuals was second to none. Each kept us up to date on every step and what we could expect. And the star of the show, Reginald Elliott, our funeral director. I am not sure how he does it, but Reggie handled every detail with so much care and excellence! I burst into tears when I walked into the visitation service - everything was arranged so beautifully, including the tribute table. The room had been set up with beautiful linens, candles and centerpieces. Every aspect of my sister's funeral, from the music, the paperwork, videos/photos, and my sister's preparations were executed with excellence and true care for the family. We recently had to lay a loved one to rest. They had a prepaid plan through Brookside. During the entire process, I found the staff here to be extremely helpful during a difficult time. The embalming process took place quickly giving us the opportunity to have an open casket funeral for our loved one a week after death. Also, they did a very good job making our loved one presentable for viewing. I can't speak directly about pricing for someone who does not have a prepaid plan but as far as the service we received, we were extremely satisfied. We did use one of the state rooms for a viewing. We did not use the chapel for our service. It was held at an offsite location. However, the chapels here are very nice. They look relatively new and are very updated. They also have a kitchen area available for catering if it is needed. They told me some people use their chapel for weddings too but that really sounded creepy to me. I do not hesite to give them 5-stars based solely on our experience. I hope this helps. If you are actually reading this review, I assume it may be a difficult time for you now. Theft! Theft! My mother is buried here and I recently lost her a few years ago . She is buried on the outer limited of the extension side of Brookside cemetery. It is a constant action of theft .First, it was her flowers and decorations BUT NOW IT WAS HER $300 BRONZE VASE THAT WAS CHAINED DOWN IS STOLEN. I reported to BROOKSIDE OFFICE and I talk to a Brookside cemetery's worker that was completely useless . He offered a 50 bucks vase that has no value and continue his stories on how this a normal thing of people stealing from graves. I suggest that there should be SOLAR PANELS CAMERAS at the extension side of Brookside to prevent this constant THEFT, but his response was that was above his pay grade. Maybe it is above his pay grade but this solution of cameras should be brought to the attention of upper management. read more

Let me start out by saying, I'm not sure how many people will check for a funeral home review here -- but I will detail our experience anyway. We recently had a love one pass away. Everything was pre-planned to reduce stress on the family. I can't comment on that experience, because I was not involved, so I will speak to the day of experience. Many things could have gone wrong -- and many things did go wrong. When I initially started writing this review, I had it set at 1 star. I won't go into all of the details, but many things were missed, done wrong, or instructions were not followed. Our concerns were relayed to the General Manager. Even though it was after the fact, he called us back and attempted to acknowledge our concerns -- and then tried to make it right. While we can't go back and redo the ceremony, it did give the family some comfort that they made things right. For this, I would give them 3.5 stars, which I will round to 4. My advice is, make a list of everything for that day. Don't be shy to check items off the list and share the list with the director. Remember, many other families are going through the same thing and they have quite a bit to balance. read more

They did a great job for my husbands funeral and burial. Vydelia Gonzales helped a great deal with the obituary. The paper quality was high, and everything turned out really well. The director made sure everything went smoothly. They even helped me make sure he got the Honor Guard from the Sheriffs office he had earned as a Sheriff. My father in law had several plots but when we finally needed to use it they quoted 20k for everything else, use of facilities , putting her in the grave-etc etc etc etc The whole time we were there it was a big sale deal, trying to see us more and more . It took a while for someone to help me when I first walked in, but I forgive that since they were having services that day. I know a director and it's staff are busy on days like that. The building, inside and out, were very clean and kind of a 'home-y' appearance, which tells me I am welcome when I walk in. I was looking for a plot of a friend, to whose funeral I was not able to attend. I am familiar with the cemetery lay out, as I do headstone hunting as a hobby and been there many times. This time was a personal reason. The lady in the office gave me a map and sent me on my way. Little did I know, his headstone still had not been placed on his grave (he'd been gone almost a year and I know the family ordered one as they sent me a pic of what it should look like). So I got out there and had no idea which site was his. I called the number on the business card of one of the men who work there. I guess he was tied up with the on going service and never did answer his phone. When the weather gets cooler, I will go attempt again and ask for someone to follow me out there. The times I have been there for hobby purposes, I have found the grounds are always well kept. Usually easy to find sites. Usually someone to help when you can't find a site. Roads are easy to navigate. All in all, 4 star. read more

I have had trouble at the cemetery many times. My Grandmother was buried in 1973. Her vase is gone. I have called about 10 times the last time they said they do not replace when stolen. Well they buried someone at the head. Usually they turn the vases over during the funeral. Well this time the vases is gone. I take picture of the mistakes they make. Which has been many. I still go to her grave even tho is been many years. I know the vase was there before that funeral. I put new flowers on her grave. They said they would discount it. I want a new vase no paying. They have took her whole head stone up for another funeral and put it by a tree. I called for 4 months till they replaced it. I have picture of that too. There many other things they have done. I had purchased a direct burial for my parents at Brookside Funeral Home years ago. Sadly, I had to use one to bury my mother 2 weeks ago. I have to say that my Funeral Director was awesome! Her name is Kitty Arnold. She was so sweet and kind and sympathetic to me. I felt that she really cared about me and guided me through a very difficult time. I believe she is a true asset to this Funeral Home. I needed to have my Dad sign a paper but he is bed ridden and lives in a care facility. I was not able to bring him in to sign the paper. Kitty didn't hesitate and told me she would go to him. This was huge to me because there was so much for me to do! She was a tremendous help in my time of need. Kitty was quick to investigate the problem and help for the replacement of the flower vase that was missing. It is very upsetting to have our loved ones gone, but then see that something had been removed from their stone was devastating. Brookside is very dear to me. My parents, some family members and friends have their final resting place there. My husband and I own plots along with my sisters and a brother. Keep throwing away my sons things. A lot of toys and footballs keep getting stolen. We put some things out there may 18 and by the 22 everything was gone. They say there is a sign when to they cleanup but the year he's been there I've never seen one. Don't know how many times his stuff was thrown away of missing. Especially the toys. On Mother's Day they decided to dump mud all over his grave bc they dug in a plot next to his instead of using a wheel barrel they dumped it on him and killed his grass. His temparory plot was suppose to be there in two days rush order it took over 5 months of hassling them all bc they didn't have a confirmation number the manager forgot to send. This is not a review for funeral services, but a comment on my recent experience here requesting help on a couple of maintenance items. I have several family members already buried here. On one, the marker was tilted badly and sinking & on another the flower vase on the marker was broken at the bottom where it would not longer stand up. I had requested correction of these two items (raising & leveling of the marker and a new vase) twice in the past. I assumed they would be taken care of, but I don't live close and did not get back to the cemetery for a while. Regrettably, when I did, they were never fixed. I returned a couple of weeks ago and again wanted to request that they be taken care of. This time I spoke to Connie Jepsen in the funeral home who took the information and assured me she would get them taken care of. Connie got on this immediately, kept me informed via text on progress, and within a week, both items were completed! (this time I went back out to verify) I was very pleased, not only that they got done, but got done so quickly. Great example of good customer service and keeping your word. read more
