Unprofessional. Unethical. Services not requested and billed. Lied and said they had approval.

Everything was fine until it wasn't. They had one application that burned parts of my grass. they offered to give me an extra fall application. I said, no you have to make this right and waive the messed up application before we talk about future business. Josh says " we'll put your account on hold until this gets resolved". two months go by - i never paid for that application but did pay for grub prevention. The finally agree to waive the screwed up application. So I said, " i told you once i was whole we could do business again." So now they offer to do my lawn at a rate 33% higher. Brookside Lawn Service has been servicing my lawn for the second year now. Their technician is prompt and does a terrific job on my lawn. Calls are returned same day and if additional service is needed, they're at my home within a few days. DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY!!!! Once they get your phone number they will never leave you alone! I called them once 6 years ago to get a quote on lawn service and they have not left me alone since. At first I did not mind as it was occasional and at the time I was always open to new service if the price was right. But 4 years ago I moved to a new home where my lawn service is taken care of for me, literally I don't have a lawn to take care of anymore. I have kindly asked them to take me off their phone list over the past 4 years and yet I am still receiving calls. Here is a kicker, they keep their number unlisted so you cannot tell who is calling nor block the number. So you pick up the phone call and its Brookside Lawn Service trying to sell me a service that I cannot use. I was with brookside for 2 years. They got worse and worse as time went on. This past year I signed up for 5 step application plan and bug ban. It was August 15th and they only did 2 applications. I called and they said they were busy and I am on the list. Two more weeks went by with them coming out. I called on September 1st and fired them. I did not want 3 applications dumped on my lawn at once. They did not come as planned and have horrible customer service. After I fired them they came out and put an application down and left a $90 bill. I called them to tell them I was not paying this bill and the lady assured me they would disregard the bill. I keep getting a bill in the mail and charged late fees. I call and the lady hangs up on me saying it pay the bill! I am still fighting this $90 bill. I recommend not using brookside for lawncare. read more

I used Brookside lawn service for a few years - messaging along the way concerns I had about the appearance of the front lawn and areas of the back lawn. They always sent a "manager" but that never changed the strategy of how to address my lawns needs. The last straw is when they recommended a treatment that they has ALREADY performed the week before. While I was told they were "on-it" in terms of fixing the grass they clearly had not done their homework - DO NOT recommend. My neighbors have left as well. More frustrating: after I fired them and demanded the refund for the portions of treatments I had paid up front for - they sent a letter stating they were "surprised" I left. and the kicker they called to see if I wanted service this year? Company has gone downhill. Awesome service the first few years. Not happy with service last year And a huge price increase this year. They came out to fertilize late in the season when there was snow on the ground and it was Mid December. Their "free service calls" consist of you are on the schedule and nothing extra ever takes place other than your normally scheduled treatments. I cancelled my service with them on 02/09/2022. On 03/01/2022 they came out and treated my lawn anyways. I called them immediately once I saw this. They acknowledged that they came out in error. Instead of removing the charges they offered to split the bill which is absolutely ridiculous. Once I said I was not paying it the tone of the customer service representative changed and he told me to have a good day. Then he tried hanging up without resolving the issue. I asked to speak to the owner or a manager and one was not available. I asked for their contact information and he was not authorized to give that information out which is a complete joke. I asked to get a call from one of them and was denied that as well. Do yourself a favor and choose another company. There are cheaper options out there and you will save yourself the headache of dealing with their customer service representatives who claim customers don't leave their company and don't take responsibility for the company's error. read more

Do not use! We used for 2 years. Yard gradually has gotten worse over that time. Asked in writing for our services to be canceled. Received a call afterwards saying that the letter wasn't clear and wanting to know what they could do differently because it is rare for people to just stop using them. Explained my letter that stated we no longer wanted services was very clear and said we do not want them servicing our lawn. A few months later we receive a letter in the mail again stating it is rare for people to leave them and asking us to call them. Since I have no desire to do business with these people I don't call, yet I receive a call a few days later from them. Read your reviews, plenty of people are unhappy with your services and leave. I know numerous people in my neighborhood that have let as well, yet according to this company they are perfect and people rarely leave them. When people say they don't want your services they mean it. Leave us alone and stop harassing us. read more

DO NOT USE BROOKSIDE!!!! It is a very unethical company! I too tried canceling my service and they still came out and sent us a bill! They continue to harass us with calls threatening to send us to collections. We will be reporting them to the Ohio Attorney General!!! I have had a few different lawn companies in the past but Brookside has actually done what they were hired to do. They started this spring and I was walking my property last week looking at all the problem areas I've had over the years and all I saw was grass and very little weeds. The past companies, like Trugreen, have only given me excuses, not results. Brookside has actually fixed, in less than one season, what past services couldn't. read more

I've been using Brookside for about 4 or 5 years now. Before that it was at least 3 other lawn services that I had to eventually part ways with. All the other kept raising my price and spraying watered down fertilizer. Brookside has kept prices steady and shows up as needed. I wish there was a way to give ZERO stars. It has sadly been a long, expensive and painful ride with the folks at Brookside. 3+ years of service, more than $1,000.00 in fees and a lawn that looks terrible. We agreed to their most frequent (also most costly) level of service. We also agreed (and paid for) upcharges, based on their expertise and recommendations, to treat our soil, additional treatments (also at additional cost) to counteract weeds, aerate our yard and over seed. All of this coupled with outrageous water bills in conjunction with bills from Brookside trying ANYTHING to get our lawn looking decent....IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! When calling to complain and speak with the owner (Melinda) I was given EVERY excuse possible (hot summer, excessive drought, poor soil make-up, weeds from adjacent vacant lots, cold winters, improper mowing) as to why our lawn looks so CRAPPY. Meanwhile, every neighbor around us that utilizes other lawn services (with identical conditions) have green, thick lawns that are free of weeds, grubs, dead spots and tall fescue. Stay away from these folks...we trusted them, gave them carte blanche on services and payment for a lawn that absolutely sucks!!! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. My first issue is twice now I've pulled up to my mother's home to some guy not even trying to hide that he is peeing in a bottle in the back of his truck. Doors wide open. Upon approaching the gentleman he claims that it's company policy to do that and when I called I got no results because three weeks later a different guy was doing the same thing. Smoking pot on the job and littering my yard with cigarettes. Not to mention that after a year my mother's lawn looks worse than ever and when they come and assess a "soil sample" they use dirt from the best spot in the yard and don't even take enough dirt to sew a seed in. Since I have switched to trugreen and in three weeks the yard is completely better. Brooksides service is a joke. I could spray water and peanuts on her lawn and have had a better success at making my grass green. read more

Completely agree with Renae's post. Avoid this company at all costs !! Getting service started is quite easy, getting it stopped however is a complete nightmare. I made the first call in January to request that service be terminated for the 2014 year. As of today (9 months later) they are *still* calling and sending invoices for services that were provided after the first call in January as well as several calls after that. It's apparently their business model to just keep sending invoices in hopes that you eventually pay it just to get rid of them. read more

Same issue as others on here... Used service for two years. The lawn looked worse each year! Finally decided to treat lawn myself since it couldn't get any worse. Anybody with Internet access can figure out how to treat a lawn - it's not rocket science! Company claims 20 years of experience. Apparently, 20 years isn't long enough to figure out something as simple as growing grass! I figured it out in 10 minutes with goggle and common sense! The office, and the techs who showed up to treat my yard, were told the service was no longer requested!. They applied the treatment anyhow and left a bill on my door! Called the office and was told "Too bad, pay us!" I was basically called a liar! They stated their "system" doesn't make mistakes! Guess they never heard "The customer is always right" slogan! No reasonable explanation for their actions! Kept muttering on about the fine-print on the bills! Didn't seem to matter to them that the service termination was requested twice! The techs were told prior to application, the service was not requested and they did it anyhow! Then, the next day, they had the nerve to call me and want to know why I cancelled my service. During the same call, tried to get me to keep my service! Unbelievable! Spoke to some service rep who sounded just as incompetent as the rest of the company! Rep admitted they made a "mistake" but refused to remove the service charge and assured me, bills would continue to be sent! They sent a "manager" to my house - conveniently while I wasn't home so I couldn't confront him in person! He left another bill on my door that had some illegible, incoherent scribblings on it! Couldn't even read most of it. Just a bunch of excuses - the same as before! Incompetent from techs to management! Scam artists all the way around! I'll be sure to spread the word about this company! Don't be taken advantage of by these criminals! I've been using Brookside Lawn Service for 15 years. My lawn used to be the best in the neighborhood until ALL of my neighbors starting using Brookside as well. Our HOA uses them for the common areas as well. They have educated employees and caring management. They are not perfect but they respond quickly and as often as it takes to make things right. Last fall I had them perform aeration and over-seed due to bare spots but was not satisfied with the results this spring. The supervisor came out in the spring and assured me he would do it over again. They did a great job this time and my lawn looks great!!! read more

Probably the worst lawn service company to do business with. No matter what you complain about they say it's your fault. It's either I didn't water enough or you water too much. I either cut my grass too high or cut the grass to low. My grass is yellow but they say it's not their fault, it's mine! Started Brookside this year and looks great after a few applications

We used Brookside for one year and had a horrible weed problem. We switched to a different company last year, and the weed problem was quickly remedied. We decided to give them one more try since their rates were cheaper. We had them aerate and overseed. It did nothing to help the patches in the yard. After speaking with condescending customer service agents and a manager, they refused the back their service. We will permanently switch companies and pay a few dollars more for a service that actually works. Do not waste your money and energy. Brookside does not care about their customers. read more

I am a first year customer and there was a miscommunication with my service. The fertilizer was spread before I was able to get my seeding down. I was very disappointed, but before I could even call they called me and came up with a plan to resolve it. In essence they are coming to my house and hand patching the areas that I needed done at no cost and then in the fall they will do the seeding. Mistakes happen, but the way they resolved this was very impressive. I am very glad I made the switch in companies. read more

They were servicing the home we bought in July so we thought we'd give them a try. HUGE MISTAKE!! We agreed to one type of service, they tried to lock us into a MUCH more expensive plan stating what we agreed to wasn't available. Upcharges and services added to our Acct without our permission or knowledge. We'd be randomly scheduled for services we did not want. Customer service reps are rude, evasive and have little knowledge of products and services. After we told them we did not want their service we have gotten 5 calls, 3 letters AND they CAME TO OUR HOUSE to get us to recontract. When I call for a manager/supervisor to get off their list, suspiciously no one is available or returns my calls. Horrible!! read more

Worst Company and Customer Service, though very polite on the phone offered no real fix to my situation. The company admitted that our relationship started out on the wrong foot. I specifically asked to have them physically survey my lawn before I would agree to the service. I was assured that their 7 step would fix my lawn's issues and give it a healthy and green look... 1.5 years later it looked worse.. Only after a soil sample (which was never initially offered to me) did they discover 2 chemical imbalances with my soil. They tried to get me to pay $30 for the soil sample but then later agreed to do it at no cost to me. I asked them to partially refund, or in my case forgive payment of the last 2 visits and start fresh this spring. I have wasted $300 to date.. My services were $65 per application last year and this year it would be double that for soil correction and fertilizing which I was willing to continue.. They offered a free service this year (1 of 7 ) not a chemical service, a free aeration which is step 6 I think. I have held back payment in hopes that they would come to their senses.
