DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WE DID On, January 17th of 2021 my girlfriend and I decided it was time to add to our family. After doing research on places to get a puppy, we chose brookside because they had pretty good reviews. We had our eye on an Australian Shepherd, who we named Jax. So we took the ride from Easton all the way to Hazleton to bring Jax home. The employee at the pet store was very nice and she let us play with Jax for a good bit of time before we bought him. Everything seemed to be perfect up until Wednesday, January 20th. Wednesday Jax started to vomit up everything he ingested. We kept him on the same food from the pet store and even the same feeding schedule. He had loose stool all week but we just assumed that it was from his nerves of being in a new environment. Wednesday Jax refused to eat anything and over the night going into Thursday his vomit developed a color to it so we rushed him to our vet. The vet took Jax in immediately. Little did we know at the time, but that was going to be Jax's last day at our home. Jax was diagnosed with Parvo, a pretty potent disease commonly found in puppies. The vet explained to us that it takes about 3-14 days for the dog to show symptoms to basically assure us it was no fault of our own. Once Saturday hit Jax still did not show any signs of improvement. Our vet recommended we take him to a 24/7 animal hospital so that he could get more intense care over the weekend since they are closed on Sunday. So that is what we did. Meanwhile we reached out to the store and the manager called my girlfriend. At first she seemed really sympathetic and told us to keep her updated, but as the vet bills grew she distanced herself more and more. Tuesday morning we got a call at about 430 am telling us Jax became septic overnight. It was the very last thing we wanted to hear. At this point, Jax spent more nights in Vet care than he did home with us. Parvo is a very contagious disease and the Friday after he went in we did a 8 hour clean at our house to make sure it was safe for when Jax could return home. To our horror, Jax never did return home. Tuesday, January 26th our beloved Jax passed away. We were living in a nightmare. We chose Brookside because of their positive reviews, we paid $2,500 for what they promised as per their website as a "Happy, healthy puppy". However this was not the case. Due to the lemon law in Pa, they had to reimburse us the price of the dog. However they have refused to do anything more. The best the owner said she could do for us is give us his brother for free. But at this point, I do not trust them, nor the breeder they do business with. We did a little digging and it turns out Jax came from Missouri. The owner gave us a bs sob story over the phone how she pleaded with her husband that they only way she would ever get into this industry was if they used reputable breeders and not puppies from a puppy mill. However this place in Missouri is a puppy mill. The kennel group that the "breeder" claimed to be apart of said they never heard of the guy. How is it that we were able to find that information out with one phone call and they couldn't? They weren't even able to provide the USDA breeder license numbers for breeder himself. The lady admitted to us that they normally get their dogs from places in the Northeast but due to the shortage of puppies from covid, they had to branch out. She said that "this guy just fell through the cracks". To me, that is unacceptable. We have now made plenty of phone calls to groups like the Humane Society, the Better Business Bureau, USDA and The Attorney General. One of the wardens who does inspections at Brookside Pups stated that if it was up to him he would have shut them down years ago. Being from a family owned business myself, I know the value of treating your customers right. This company does the exact opposite of that. They have lied to us on multiple occasions. I want to make this point clear, this review is not for me. This is for you. Please do not make the same mistake my girlfriend and I did and do business with these people. They do not care about you, or the animals they are selling you. Seeing Jax the way he was towards the end was absolutely heart breaking. RIP Buddy read more

This place charges way to much for they're puppies,they dont take good care of them while they're at the shelter,and when I used the finance company they go through they put on a 151.98% in interest. There is no way either that these puppies should be stuck in a cage with no food or water for days on a truck or treated terribly. Two out of my three pups that I got off of them have terrible anxiety with certain noises, how people dress,and terribly scared of people at first in general. Something needs to be done here, this place shouldn't be allowed to be open! read more

Do Not buy puppy's from here they sold me a sick puppy dog (8weeks old) 10 days ago today and they are basically saying it's my responsibility now I spoke to the manager and he was no help at all now I have a Sick dog and he has to be seen again next week . I now have a puppy we paid for and a trip to the vet which cost $225 and another cost out my pocket next week because I have to bring him back to the vet . They are selling sick puppy's and do not care what so ever because now it's your problem I wanted everyone to know so they don't go through what I am dealing with now . Please don't purchase a puppy from here! After wanting a certain type of dog for a long time- a friend of mind sent a picture of a puppy from this place. I went to look at the pup (being completely ignorant, I'll admit) not knowing what this place was all about. The minute I walked in here, I could tell it wasn't a safe place for any of these dogs. It reeked of feces, dogs were kept in these boxes with layers of wood chips filled with their own excrements. They were all incredibly skinny and looked so sad. I didn't even hesitate- I purchased this dog on the spot because I couldn't even think about leaving it here. The day after, this poor pup started to vomit and had diarrhea. I immediately took it to a local ANIMAL ER. It turns out the puppy had PARVO! We were given everything to treat him but it was bad. He lived for three days until he passed away in his sleep. We were devastated to say the least. After two weeks of going through all of the outlets (their contract, Pa Puppy Lemon Law, friends on social media, local dog trainers, our lawyer) we finally received our initial $1900 refund back without any sympathy from Brookside. We were out $1000+ for our massive Vet bills and supplies but we're glad we were able to give this pup a great home and lots of cuddles in his final days. PLEASE DON'T BUY FROM HERE! This place is a puppy mill and it's bad because they don't care about you or more importantly, their pups. They are taking your money and giving you sick and malnourished dogs. There are tons of great, reputable, breeders in our area and shelters all over! Please, DO YOUR RESEARCH before bringing a pup home- I'm begging you! read more

I would give this place 0 stars if it was an option. We recently purchased a puppy from this store which my husband and I fell in love with immediately. She was only 1.25 lbs. The "breeder" at the store said that she would get no larger than 5 lbs. As soon as I picked her up, I knew I wanted this dog. After a few days, the puppy was stumbling and walking around like she was drunk. (we were told low blood sugar and to give her honey) We did this for a while and the puppy seemed fine. We woke up last week to find our puppy laying lifeless on our bedroom floor leaking her own bodily fluids. The night before she was eating, drinking, running around (no signs of being sick). We rushed the dog to the pet hospital to find out she had roundworms and possibly parvo. If the dog was de-wormed the appropriate amount of times, why would she have an infestation of worms?? We had to leave the puppy at the hospital only to find out an hour later that she had passed away. We only had her for 3 weeks and probably gave her the best 3 weeks of her life. Not only did my husband and I spend $600 for this wonderful dog, we also had to pay over $1200 at the vet. The money is not even the issue - its the fact this place is selling sick puppies. I would never buy from this so called "breeder" ever again and I urge you all to steer clear of this place. read more

This place is selling unhealthy puppy mill puppies and if you go on their website and look, you will see that they are kept in wood chips looking filthy. It is proven that you should not take a puppy away from its litter or mother before 8 weeks of age. Also, the dogs here are known to be sickly--several with parvo. If one dog in a small space gets parvo everyone will. Adopt from a shelter or go through a reputable AKC breeder. read more

Definitely do not buy from this store!! It's been several years, but I purchased a puppy from them. I brought the puppy home after work on a Wednesday late afternoon. On Friday evening (after the pet store had closed), he had a seizure and went limp. I rushed him to the emergency ER (since my vet was closed). They put him on iv fluid and antibiotics, and kept him overnight to watch him. On Saturday he seemed to be doing better so we took him home. He wasn't well at all the rest of the weekend so I took him to my regular vet on Monday. They felt the current antibiotic wasn't working so they gave him a different one and sent him home again. On Tuesday he was even worse, so I took him to my vet again, this time they ran blood work and determined that he had Distemper and was too far gone to try to treat. I had to put him to sleep that day. I had this puppy for 6 days, it was heartbreaking. The next day I contacted Brookside and they told me they would refund my purchase price only, but none of the vet bills (almost $1,000.00) because I chose to get him care instead of just returning him to the store. The store was closed for the weekend when his symptoms started, I wouldn't have let him suffer the weekend until they opened again on the following Monday! read more
