The chips that were included were okay, highly seasoned, I'd suggest going for the fries. We started off with fried picked, and they were good. Pipping hot and battered perfect. The beer selection is solid, wish the drafts were served in a chilled glass. Opted for 3 Floyd's beer, and it was excellent. Chicken tenders and wraps were good. I decided to try Brothers Bar and Grill for lunch. It's nicely decorated and clean inside. It wasn't too crowded at lunch. I had the quesadilla burger and fries. The burger tasted good. So why 2 stars: The service was slow. I almost left without the food due to the slowness. There were about a dozen people in the place. The fries were nearly cold and not a large portion. We went with a group but this was our first time. I liked the location down by Notre Dame University where my son was playing hockey. I ordered a cheese curd burger which was good. They didn't have mellow yellow or mt dew or even sweet tea. Like come on. Yes I realize it's a bar but the grill part denotes more than water. Considering we had a large party they did well for getting the food out. Our severs were young college students who seemed pleasant enough. I love the Firecracker Fries here, but it is NOT worth visiting Brothers unless there's drink/food specials going on. It's a big sports bar with typical sticky tables and floors. Heads Up: While the website may say Happy Hour M-F 3-6pm with $6.99 apps and you may have been previously served with this HH menu, it seems like they don't do it anymore??Or at least when I visited this week during the usual HH, the waitress explicitly told me "We don't do Happy Hour here." We were already there, so we decided to order, and wow for just a couple appetizers, a burger, and 2 sodas, it came out to almost $50! The waitress was in such a rush, we didn't get to choose our dipping sauces and she forgot one of the ones that was supposed to come with the app. The restaurant was almost empty and yet the service I experienced on this visit was worse than when I came during busier times. Day number 2 in the Eddy Commons having eaten at O'Rourkes the day before. We always want to try a new restaurant that doesn't have a location at home - but there weren't any more. So we had not been to our local Brothers and opted to give this a try. We came for a late lunch/very early dinner on a Friday so seating was quick and easy. The menu had plenty for the hubby to pick from 3 salads for me - all with the protein add-on option. I went for the chop chop as it seemed to offer the most. Hubby went with the chicken wrap as he had had a burger, wings and chicken sandwich the prior 3 nights. I liked the fact that we could watch TV from our seat and that they had the US Open on. Having just come from a place tonight where they had hard to see TVs with old movies on rather than golf - I now appreciate intelligently located TVs with sports programming. Our food came out in good time and both plates were just as ordered. The only downside to mine was the iceberg lettuce. But compared to the salad the night before, it was shoulders above the other. Both had decent chicken portions but this one had much for fixings. As I don't put dressing on my salads (unless they have oil and vinegar - and this place had vinegar for me (I don't use the oil)) I really want and appreciate lots on stuff on the greens in addition to my protein. It doesn't have to be bacon or cheese or anything in particular. Even shredded carrots and cabbage to change up the color and texture goes a long way. So clearly I rate this higher and am glad we went ahead and ate here. The convenient parking garage (free for under 2 hours) and nice little area made it good stop for lunch. Amazing food and fun atmosphere! A few colleagues and I were in town for a meeting and happened upon Brothers. The place was packed with college students, and it had an electric vibe. We ordered the apps and they were the best: - cheese curds: the tempura was light and fluffy to allow you the ability to taste the cheese curd enveloped inside. Absolutely to die for! - pretzel stix: glistening with butter, these pretzels were soft on the inside and paired perfectly with the cheese sauce - fried pickles- lightly coated and delicious We ended up ordering the $2 cheeseburger special and I was thoroughly impressed. Almost a smash burger, the patty was seasoned and covered in cheese. The bun was fresh, soft, and made this burger 100%. The service was excellent and the drinks were flowing. Most disgusting restaurant in South Bend. Don't go here unless you want tea that smells like sewer water since no one cleans it. Maggots and gnats in your food since they're all over the kitchen and by drink machines. Dirty nasty silverware they give everyone, mine had old sour cream on it from the last user. The cups don't get washed properly. The tables are so sticky the napkins and menus get stuck and won't come off. They don't clean anything and don't care about their customers. Of course since it was $2, what more can you expect. The waitress I had to flag down for a side of bbq sauce. She only checked in on us once. I think anyone from south bend hears a lot of things about Brothers and whether they are good or bad is up to interpretation (read as: mostly bad). I'd never been before but on a Sunday night there aren't very many options other than a 24 hour diner, an "Irish" pub, or Applebees. We were not met at the door by anyone because there was a seat yourself sign but we wanted to sit on the patio and didn't want to be over looked. when someone did walk by we were told we could sit out on the patio but we were not told until we waited without being greeted that it was bar service only and we'd have to order up there. Ok fine we'll make it easy and sit up there. It seemed like it took an abnormally long amount of time before we were greeted and it was a REALLY long time before we got our food. I'm not sure if half of our meals were ready and waiting but I do know that it was brought out mostly cold. There was a shift change so maybe that had something to do with it and everyone could be drained with it being the night after a Notre Dame game but dang. Definitely bummed for this being my first experience here and the food itself is a 4/10 so not even worth going back for and risking it. read more

Having been here a few years ago and wanting to try something different we went to Brothers after The South Bend Cubs game on a Sunday evening. In the mood for a drink ( I was more in the mood when the sign on the door said half off mixed drinks all day Sunday) I ordered the Wisconsin Badger with an upgrade to Crown Royal. If I would have read the reviews I probably would have not ordered it. It was definitely short poured, weak, and ungodly sweet. Not being in a hurry we ordered an appetizer of Gator Balls. Bacon wrapped, cheese filled chicken. The cheese was oozing out of the deep-fried bacon balls and the ranch dressing complimented it well. If it wasn't holding things in place you would barely need the chicken. For our meal I ordered Good and Sloppy Brothers Stacked Patty Melt. Unfortunately, it came out without 1000 island dressing (there goes the good and sloppy) and by the time the server finally came back to the table (she was understaffed) I had already eaten half of my wives sandwich and we were waiting for our bill. On the other hand, my wife ordered the Mean Frickin Chicken. I have to be honest, when I saw it I thought it was going to be DRY but it wasn't. It was juicy, "sloppy and good". The crunch was amazing even though it was smothered in Cajun sauce and topped with two slices of Pepper Jack Cheese. It fed both of us. When we finally got the bill, they took off my sandwich but charged me $10.50 for my drink. If you look at my reviews you know I have paid more than that in many places but there were two problems, the drink was $6 and the menu said top shelf was $2 or $4 add on. $6 + $4 = $10 not $10.50 and what about the half off? The server explained to me that the signature drinks were not included... Ok I understand but the draft beer special had fine print, the mixed drink ads did not. Long story short, I got my drink for free... not what I wanted. The problem was there was no manager on duty, all that was there was a "keyholder" and she was way out of her element dealing with the situation. I am not speaking bad about the staff but the service in general. This was not the servers fault or the keyholders either, they were both great.
