He told me that after a pressure test on my gas line that there were two leaks in the gas line. He said the pipes could be rusted out and would need to be replaced. If I wanted this to pass inspection I had to okay his estimate for service for $1,155.00 This was $200 for his fee and $955.00 for the repair. I expected to be told that they dug up rusted pipes and replaced them. However, I found out that he subbed out the work to a plumbing company and the two leaks were minor. They involved changing the pipe tape where the fittings went together. This reminds me of going to the car dealer for a noise in the engine and being told it could be the transmission and if you really need to use the car then you have to approve the cost of repair. When coming back to pick up the car you are told it was just a belt, but, because you approved the cost of replacing the transmission, you have to pay $3,000 not $300 for a belt. I don't know if Alex Buie thought it is easy to take advantage of a person not present, or because it is easy to take advantage of a senior citizen, but the charge of $955 to replace the tape used where two fittings come together is exorbitant. I have no complaint with the work done, but I do have an issue with the ethics and the greed of Buie's Heating and Air Do not use this company if ethics and price are important to you.

It was a valid question that did not require a bitter response. Value: I paid $320 for 2lbs of freon and a service call. After that, I called several other local HVAC firms and the average cost was about $240 for the same service and type of freon. Professionalism/Skill: My problem was haphazardly diagnosed without even searching for an actual leak. I was told it would be a minimum of $1,500 to start digging into the issue. I opted to not do that because it seemed like an expensive commitment to make to a person who had not at all looked for the leak. Guessing at the problem shows a lack of skill, no matter your profession. In the end, I overpaid for poor service solely because this was the firm that installed the unit in my home years ago, before I purchased it. Take my advice and avoid these guys. Pioneer, City Heat and Air, and Rocky Top are all far better options.

We received a comprehensive report on the state of our fireplace with recommendations and quotes for everything that wasn't perfect, but Matt was careful to reassure my husband that our fireplace was in great shape for its age (close to 100!) and all the updates would simply be to get it up to current codes. He gave us all the info we needed but no pressure to buy additional services. We have recommended him to friends and will use him for our annual inspections and cleaning from now on, and when we are ready to make the big updates, he will be the one we call for sure.
