Brown & Sons was referred to me by my realtor. I did my due diligence and researched the contractor before hiring him. It is my opinion that there are two sides to every story. With clear and precise communication, Mr. T Brown came through for me. Mr. T Brown and his crew were professional and completed my roof/gutter job in a timely fashion. I contracted with Brown and Son's to have a house built. The House was completed in 2006. The roof started leaking soon after. I called Mr'r brown. It took over six months for him to come out. It was a metal roof. He pulled up the metal in places and pu silicone cawk in the seems. You could see it. It did not look good and it did not work. The next time it rained it leaked. I called him and he put me off for another six months before coming out. He tried to fix the roof and he was not able. This kind of thing wnt on for years. I called the BBB. They are only mediators. He never did fix my roof. I also had four screens that he wass supposed to put in my windows. Same thing happened . I have documentation of more than a year of coorspondence with Mr. Brown about gettiing me the screens. He finally told me that he was sending out a representative of the company that manufactured the screens to measure for the right size. They brought me screens that were too large and not even the same manufacturer. They would not have fit even if they were the same size. He built a shed for me and used untreated wood on the concrete base plates. The worse thing was that he put a stone chimney in my house that was 25 feet tall with no support under it. the center of the chimney/ fireplace is about 6 feet from the nearest support under the house. I estemate that more than three tons wsas resting on USB board. The house began to cave in on itself. The floor sunk three inches. Luckily I was able to get someone to jack up my floor. Had this not of been noticed, I would be paying a mortgage on a house that was condemned. read more

He put a 3000 lb stone chili money in my house with no support under it. It was sitting on nothing but USB board. The house was collapsing under the weight. The chimney cap leaked. he kept coming back to try and fix it but could not. I finally put a chimney cap over his incompetence and now the leak is fixed. He used untreated wood as base boards on concrete for my shed. He left exposed wires in my garage. He refused to bring screens for my windows. He voided the warranty on my metal roof. read more

READ BEFORE HIRING. DO NOT HIRE THIS FAMILY. Unfortunately I dont have enough word count to describe in detail how unscrupulous, unprofessional and juvenile Thomas Brown, of Brown and Sons construction, has acted in dealing with him these last two years. Work started late, was dragged out (they would be gone weeks at a time) and done by the laziest bunch of what I believed to be day-laborers I have ever seen. One day the crew left and most equipment was gone, still the same mess, but the flashing around my chimney was just siting half on. It had been raining 90% during this entire installation and was continuing to do so with no flashing around my chimney and no workers, I reached out to ask what exactly was going on. I asked Mr Brown when the work might be done because the guys were gone he said "They are done." I told him about the flashing, he said "Its not a big deal." I stated my husband and I were very unhappy with the end result & quality of work, that we want him to inspect his crews work and discuss the issues still remaining (He had not set foot on site since the first day). He said he was out of town, wouldn't be back until the following day. We said how unacceptable this all was and that he was a Month past completion date, we wanted to both be present at the home to discuss the issues with him. He was told not to enter onto the property without us being present, Tommy was aware my husband and I were both at work. So while he knew we were both gone Mr. Brown and another man were seen on camera coming on property & quickly drilling down the chimney flashing, this is Mr. Brown who had stated he was out of town. He had come on property when specifically told not to. He then texted demanding payment, stating the job was done. We said he trespassed and again reiterated that the job was not done properly, we were withholding final payment until it was remedied, or at the very least discussed. He said "As long as we are in contract I can enter onto your property whenever I want to. You have a perfect roof, if there was a real issue I would discuss it. If you do not pay me I will file with the magistrate." And he did the next morning, with no meeting, no further discussion, no time for us to pay him at all. We hired roof inspectors & three separate roofers to look over our "new roof" and give affidavits to the judge. We won judgment of the return of money paid + interest, that was TWO YEARS AGO. Tommy was to arrange payment, he didn't. After 6 Months we filed for wage garnishment, he never returned the paperwork. Waited 5 more months to take him back to court. This is were he said he had no idea he had to fill out the paperwork or return it. He claimed he hadnt made any money in the last year, and the new truck he drives isnt his. When the judge called him out it lead to how he had a VA job ending this March then he would somehow after all this time be able to pay us. Its March and here we are; My roof leaks, it looks like crap and Tommy drives around in a new Truck, hes got a new website too. No jobs but new reviews, isn't that strange? We reached out this final time 3 days ago & he said "I get paid in a few days, when I do I will decided what I want to do". Excuse me? Decide what you want to do? You owe us money, you have a civil judgment against you. We told him the next steps we would take to fulfill judgment. He got mad saying he would be filing for bankruptcy so we could not collect. That's right. A grown man who owns a business said he would rather file for bankruptcy than pay or make payment arrangements for an amount less than $10,000. Mind you HE SUED US. I guess this is what happens when he doesnt win. I have filed the paperwork to remove his licenses with the WV contractors licensing board and reached out to VA loans as well. Apparently this is the type of thing Mr. Brown cannot do and still work with these agencies. Its a small town, I didn't want to write this, we gave him many opportunities and ample time. My patience and kindness are spent. Its time I let people know about this man and his company. read more
