Dishonest scammers! Had the service team come out to replace the insulation in my stove (which they said they do when I stopped in to ask in person) but they didn't have the replacement insulation with them when they came. Instead of calling me or saying they can't when I made the appointment, they showed up knowing they couldn't do any work and charged me $140 for the service call. Waste of time and money for absolutely nothing! While at my house they told me I could order stove insulation on Amazon and cut it to size, which tells that it's a universal standard and not some unique part for my stove. They either didn't want to do the work so they said they didn't have it so they could go home early, or they knew in advance so they could scam me. Can't believe how dishonest this local business is. And the cherry on top is they said they would call me in the morning to give me an estimated time of when they would come but I never got a call. I called them around 11 to find out and they said between 2-4, they showed at 4:15. I waited all day for them just to be scammed This happened 3 months ago and today they sent me an invoice for service. I called and spoke with a woman over in finance, explained what happened, told her the credit card company agreed with me and refunded me, and she said they will never do business with me again and hung up on me... as if I would ever go to them again lol read more

I bought a Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator two years ago. They've had to come out and serve it service at five times it would've been more but I turned the damn thing off Brown's appliances won't fix my refrigerator because I owe $250. I'm not gonna pay for service when it keeps breaking down over and over I could've bought a new refrigerator. I will never use this place. Horrible horrible service. read more

Seriously great service and that's what matters. We recently had an issue with our refrigerator not being cool. Brown's service came promptly, diagnosed the problem, ordered the part, delivered a loaner frig (!), returned to install the part (defective) and encouraged us to contact the manufacturer as the unit was less than 2 yr old. When the manufacturer was less than helpful, Browns advocated for us with the manufacturer which resulted in replacement. In addition to being prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and sympathetic to our plight, Browns was encouraging and helpful. It doesn't get better than this. We have purchased several appliances from Browns with great service and we will not be looking anywhere else when we shop. Thank you. read more

I got to my summer house in Maine on a Friday and discovered the 23 year old Fridge was out. I started calling appliance places like Home Depot in Ellsworth and independent appliance stores in Machias. 4 to 6 week delivery for the fridge I wanted. Happened to call Brown appliance in Ellsworth and lo and behold, they could have it by Monday. Two really nice guys came and set it up for 2/3 of quoted prices from other appliance sources. Losing your Fridge is fairly traumatic but these guys and the sales person at the store made it all so easy. All done by phone as I had driven up from hot as hell Alabama and could not get in the car again! read more

The service team of Hutch, Chris, and Elijah responded promptly to a problem we had with the initial install of our GE Profile washer/dryer combo due to a faulty drain pan. They did a great job of re-installing the unit with a new drain pan in a tight area. Afterwards Hutch gave a detailed "tutorial" on the machine with suggestions for efficient use and maintenance. All the work was done without extra charge to us. Overall from the sale of the two-in-one by Jay to the install we are very pleased with Brown's customer service. read more

I purchased a Speed Queen washing machine from Brown's Appliance three and a half years ago that their staff recommended, which has had nothing but issues ever since, not to mention never actually cleaning clothes. My clothes consistently come out as dirty as they went in, even when following Brown's recommendation of using the hot water, heavy soil, and heavy duty settings. Brown's made two repair visits within the three year warranty, but both issues have arisen again, one not even a year later, but now outside of the warranty. My machine is not overused, only doing wash every 2-4 weeks, and not over loaded. I have followed all the recommendations of Brown's (since they refuse to admit that they sold me a bad machine), but yet again the machine is broken. Regardless of whether the product is a quality product, the specific machine I was sold is not, and it should be replaced by Brown's if they intend to hold up a reputation of selling quality products and offering quality service. read more

Customer service is a dying art, good customer service is rare, and great customer service is a needle in a haystack. Brown Appliance strives to provide great customer service and I'm glad they are local and family-owned. They have employees like Thaddeus, in the service department, who have been there over 25 years and who stands by the integrity and commitment to great customer service they provide. I really appreciate "old school" technicians like Joe who tells it like it is with no BS combined with younger technicians like Nick, who troubleshoot things like my washing machine and come up with a solution. I appreciate Brown's willingness to work with people, especially during these hard financial times; that's one of the reasons I prefer giving my business to local businesses. We needed our 15-year-old refrigerator serviced today. The service tech came within 20 minutes of our call. He was extremely capable. He diagnosed the problem that we had called about and fixed it and more in less than an hour. The refrigerator is now running better than it did when we first bought it! About a week ago, I called up Brown's to order a compact refrigerator hoping that they would have one in stock to replace one that recently gave up the ghost. The good news was that they had one in stock, The bad news was that the $230 price quoted was as much as $80 over an Internet based purchase of the same model. I asked for a lower price, but was turned down which was their prerogative. We decided to just suck up the high cost and pick up the unit that afternoon to solve our immediate refrigeration need. The next day, I was shocked when I found that my charge card was hit for not $230, but $279 plus tax. When I called the salesman back about this discrepancy, he denied quoting me $230 and would not adjust the price. I AM CERTAIN THAT HEARD $230 AND WAS TAKEN ABACK WHEN HE SUGGESTED THAT I HAD NOT HEARD HIM CORRECTLY. THIS WAS A CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH - UNBELIEVABLE! I was offered to return the unit, but we really did need it which is why we accepted their high price offer in the first place. With few other local purchase options, we did not want to wait for a unit to be delivered. Add to this "bait and switch" to our issue with our last year purchase of a $900 dishwasher which was not correctly installed (we were charged for their time to come out fix it) and I decided it was time to write my first Yelp I recommend using these top dollar folks as a last resort and never order over the phone. You never know what your card will be hit for and they do not stand behind their quotes or their installations. As for local appliance repair, I will be using Hogan's Appliance Service in Bar Harbor going forward. I have been trying to get a hold of the owner for 3 days now with no success. I will try again on Monday. Regardless of the owner's response, this Yelp rating can help you avoid this type of circus. I may have to file a dispute with the card issuer to dispute the additional $49 charged - on principle. However, you can can avoid this type of hassle by just going elsewhere. We would not go anywhere else for appliances as they are extremely reputable. We have been a customer for many years and purchased many appliances from Brown's. Customer service is beyond exceptional. Andy is our "go to guy" and we could not be more pleased. Yes, you can go to the big box stores but we have found Brown's has sometimes beaten the price(s) and their service is beyond fantastic. Big box stores have no service reps and you may wait days/weeks to get your appliance fixed - IF you can find someone - not so with Brown's. You know what you are getting - exceptional value and customer service. We have dealt with the big box stores in the past - no longer. read more

We bought a Frigidaire dishwasher from here 4.5 years ago and it started making noises. We called them to come and tell us what was wrong with the machine and they said the motor was going!! It isn't even 5 years old. We needed a new machine so we went with a Crosley because it has a 10 year warrantte on the motor. The machine has crummy shelves and has gaps on either side when installed. The cost was $565. They even sent us a bill for $96 for the repairman to come out and tell us the motor was shot. You would think that they would have not charged us for this given the fact that the first dishwasher didn't last 5 years AND we bought the second machine from them. What customer service! Today my washing machine died a horrible death. It just plain quit. I called Browns just before noon and a new Speed Queen arrived in the care of two pleasant young men at 1:40pm. The lads removed the old one and installed the new one in a matter of minutes. As the owner of an open and full bed and breakfast, I had visions of mountains of laundry. No so. They saved me from several days of digging out. They hit the trifecta! They had the right item at a fair price, the correct number of well-trained staff, and a "can do" attitude. Their policy of servicing what they sell goes a long way as well. What could have been a terrible moment turned into a beautiful Spring day. You can't ask for more. read more
