I've only been once so far but I was very impressed by the quality of the pastries. I tried a cafe latte croissant and really enjoyed it! Super flaky and a lot of delicious flavor from the filling and garnishes. It was very busy when I stopped by midday. They were out of some items already (I missed out on trying the French onion croissant before they replaced it with another menu item). I did find a spot to sit outside but I can see it being even harder to find a seat during peak times. It's a bit off the beaten path yet it's known and popular for a reason. I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying more items and of course the coffee! read more

I heard about this place through a friend and I still can't believe they have been open since 2024 and I've never heard of them! I was sold as soon as I read their menu and saw that they had a Halva latte. This is one of my favorites and I can only get it at cafes near Boston. If you haven't had it, it's a must try. Halva is a sweet confection that is sesame based. Brown Bee definitely delivered on this one. I hope it stays on the menu! My wife had a pistachio latte that is made with homemade pistachio syrup. It was 10/10. We didn't plan on eating, but we did end up getting one of their cinnamon rolls with a homemade cream cheese frosting. It was fantastic! They have plenty of seating and although we waited inline, there were several seats available and we got to enjoy our drinks and cinnamon roll. This place is worth the wait in line. We will be going back again this weekend. I want to try the everything croissant with cream cheese baked inside! We may also try one of their breakfast sandwiches. My only recommendation is that they add little chalk boards for each of the croissants with what they are as they had to keep telling everyone what each one was. Still a 10/10. read more

Wow by far the best and most beautiful croissants you can get in Rhode Island! The pastry display is the first thing you see when you walk in and it is STUNNING! It will make choosing your pastry treat of the day very challenging. I have had the everything bagel croissant and the pistachio croissant, both were amazing. Their london fog tea was excellent, as was the matcha latte. The only thing Ive had that I didn't love was the halva latte, but I am excited to continue trying new things! I came here twice to try to get some work done and it does have a decent number of tables and access to outlets, however they are SO popular that it can be tricky to find a spot to sit. They also ask that you not stay more than about 90 minutes to allow for turnover for more guests. Also they have a no laptop policy on the weekends. read more

I went to Brown Bee for the first time and it was really tasty. I liked that you could get fun coffee drinks that weren't overly sweet too. I had a filled croissant that was delicious and light. My friend has a latte. We went around 11 and the line wasn't too bad, but a lot of things were sold out already. We were able to get a table pretty easily too. It is pretty expensive and not somewhere I'd go too often based on the price but definitely fun to check out. read more

Food/Drinks: This place is definitely a must try. I'm usually an iced coffee type of girl, but their hot lattes are actually very, very good. I also love that they add a little design touch to the drinks. I also tried their croissants, and they are delicious. From the ones with fillings to the plain ones, they are soft, flaky, and the perfect size. I feel like the prices are reasonable for what they serve. Location: They are located in a college area, so they tend to be very busy. I usually go in, grab my order, and go. I have never really sat down to eat there because there is usually no space. It is a very popular coffee shop, but I am not surprised. The interior is modern and cozy, and they do have a good amount of tables. It is just always busy. They do not have private parking, so you have to find street parking, but it is usually not an issue unless there is a big event going on nearby. I really loved the croissants! They were incredibly friendly and offered us suggestions when I asked what to try. I ended up leaving with 4 croissants and a coffee roll for just 2 people (oops!) my only complained were they don't offer decaf coffee. As someone with a heart condition it wasn't super inclusive. Also the didn't have napkins out and available. You had to ask which I thought was odd. This is a cute coffee shop on a historic street. We visited on a Friday afternoon. We had to wait to order and wait to get our drinks but there were quite a few people there for a small place. Brown Bee Coffee shop is really an unique gem in the College Hill neighborhood in Providence. The food, particularly the croissants reminded me of my trips to Paris. The croissant is flaky, buttery, crispy and such a delicious treat. The Brown Bee Coffee website describes how Pastry Chef - Alisia Custodio "honed her skills in the heart of French pastry making, interning at ENSP in the South of France." It is clear that she along with all of the employees at this cafe have attention to detail and value their contribution to the success of the business. I ordered the Egg and Cheese sandwich that has the house made round croissant, soft scrambled egg, amercian cheese, chives (+3 add beef bacon). This was absolutely phenomenal. I don't remember having beef bacon and it was soo good. I mean, pork bacon is better in my opinion, but the beef bacon isn't far behind. It tastes more like pastrami in flavor and texture. I also ordered the Iced Spanish latte which had condensed milk, smoked chocolate sea salt. This drink is legit!! It's one of the best, if not the best coffee drinks I've had in Rhode Island. The predominant flavor is chocolate, but tastes mildly savory because of the salt and perfect amount of sweetness. You would think that the condensed milk would over power the drink, but it doesn't, it's very well balanced! This shop is spacious with many seats for two or more people, its very clean and they have merchandise on sale as well! The staff are highly professional and efficient. They greeted us with so much warmth, they were knowledgeable and very efficient. This is a well run business with top notch products. I can't compliment that baked items enough. There was a group of us, so we got to try a bunch of stuff, and the pistachio crunch croissant was AMAZING. I would say the same about the Zaatar olive oil croissant was SO yummy. The egg and cheese sandwich was also so good. I have to admit though, it said it was an egg and cheese sandwich croissant, it wasn't clear to me that it was made on an actual croissant (because of the word sandwich). This spot has been very trendy on all social media lately~ they seem to specialize in matcha and I'm a fan~ they CAN make a good match and the mango or lavenders flavors are sweet but not overwhelming. The pastries are interesting and picture worthy. Large and very flake but didn't taste too fresh for a 8am cafe stop. The fillings are good. I'm more interested in the drink menu because they do serve a good coffee or matcha drink. Place was clean, new, and has a water station for free and options for milk and sugar to mix in~ there is one bathroom, which has a great mirror and was clean but the door doesn't lock. I was so nervous and went as fast as I could to prevent a fellow cafe goer from walking in. This place did offer seating, but it probably gets busy quick. Brown Bee is such a cute, well decorated cafe with ample seating inside (and some outdoors). It's perfectly located near the pedestrian bridge, making it the perfect stop before or after a nice walk on the water. The pastries and croissants were beautifully crafted and equally delicious. I personally loved the pistachio crunch croissant; they did not skimp out on the creamy filling. Coffee was OK- cold brew can be a hit or a miss at most places, and this one was pretty watery. I have seen mixed reviews on service, but from my experience, the staff were kind and courteous, and drinks were served fairly quickly. So glad they started doing breakfast sandwiches too! The cafe itself is super cute inside and well themed! It's clear they thought about every detail of the space. I ordered the blackberry mocha latte, and it was literally perfect - no notes. Perfectly sweet with amazing flavor. Bread pudding was amazing: my favorite hands down. The bacon egg and cheese croissant was also very good; the croissant was soft and chewy and the eggs were perfectly fluffy. I thought the French onion croissant was a fun concept and good, but it wasn't as soft. Same with the strawberry chocolate croissant; in addition, when my friends and I split it four ways we didn't realize there was chocolate filling on one side and strawberry on another, so we didn't get the full strawberry chocolate experience. Visited for the first time recently, and I have to say the quality of product is great! A very pretty little spot, with the baked goods perfectly displayed front and center upon entry. I do though wish the product was labeled in the case vs just a list taped to the top of the case. My service was friendly, though I have a feeling one of the croissants I wanted was being made, but instead I was told it wasn't available. Came to this location several times. The teas are really delicious and the staff is really friendly. I ordered the Chocolate Banana Croissant and it was amazing. Croissants are a genuine weakness of mine! And it can be hard to find the perfect flaky and delicious one. Brown Bee has HUGE, intriguingly flavored croissants. When I was there (around noon on a weekday) they had pistachio, cafe latte, z'atar, everything cream cheese, chocolate, plain and strawberry chocolate croissants on display. Every one looked delightful! I went with the cafe latte and the everything cream cheese. As mentioned they were giant and both were generously stuffed with filling. The everything one was the perfect savory and salty mix with lots of scallion cream cheese. The cafe latte was stuffed with a light latte flavored cream. There's been a buzz around Brown Bee Coffee that opened on Saturday, September 14th. Brown Bee Coffee is a café that sells precision-poured coffee and handmade in-house croissants. On Saturday, Brown Bee Coffee opens at 8:00am and I arrived at 8:05am. As I approached Benefit Street, there was a line out the door. The menu is posted on the window so I took a picture of it and decided what items I wanted while waiting in queue. Some of the marble-topped café tables inside were taken already by people or by items saving the seats. Inside the color palette is a medley of dark browns (woodwork), tans, beige, and cream. This color palette is seen on the packaging as well. When it was my turn, I took a look at the items on display and since there were no labels on the baked goods, I asked the staff member which items were what. He was friendly in explaining and patient. I ordered a chocolate banana almond croissant ($8.41), pistachio crunch croissant ($8.41), matcha cookie ($2.84), and a matcha latte ($5.61). I had wanted some other items like a butter croissant, but they were not made yet. I received a box with the two croissants and a parchment bag for the matcha cookie. WOW. When I got home, I cut the pistachio crunch croissant in half and the pistachio cream was oozing out. It had a really good pistachio taste and not overpowering. I also really enjoyed the matcha cookie and you can really taste the matcha. My husband had the chocolate banana almond croissant and it had house-made banana almond and dark chocolate baton filling. It was also circular compared to the standard shape. Both croissants were flaky with many layers. The matcha latte was also very good. I can see why people were waiting in line so early and it was definitely worth it. I just wished they all the baked goods ready by the time they opened. read more

They had cars and coffee going on so there was a lot of stuff happening and it was a fun vibe, but if you're looking for quiet do not expect it here. The staff was polite and despite the constant stream of patrons and packed seating area, they greeted every single person with excitement and a smile. The space was adorable. It felt like you were in someone's home, it was cozy, comfortable and honestly, I didn't really want to leave. Now, the croissants.. Lord, the croissants. The amount of care and time that goes into these needs no explanation. It's plain to see and you can absolutely taste it. I'm no croissant connoisseur, but I enjoy what I think are good ones from time to time. This was exceptional. Even traveling abroad in Italy and France, trying out either similarly layered pastry or croissants themselves, these rivaled and surpassed them for me. I may get beat down for that opinion, but I'll die on that hill. Point is, they were really, REALLY good. Like many people, I work during the week, so weekends are the time to try to delegate a little time for passion projects and do something for me. I hadn't been to Brown Bee before, so I tried to go. It was busy inside, but I was able to grab a drink, some food, and hole myself up in the bar area in the farthest corner to try to work on some writing projects. I wasn't even planning on staying longer than an hour. A few minutes in an employee poked me and told me they had a "no laptop" policy on the weekends. Even though I wasn't at a table, and was at a one-person bar seat that people generally use.... for laptops! I want to be clear that this employee was nice about it and it seemed they were just being the bearer of bad news from management/the owner(s). I don't want this review to reflect poorly on the employee. I'm sure Brown Bee probably had "no laptop" signs up that I missed because it was pretty busy and crowded. If I had seen them, I would have left before spending money. I was told I could go outside if I wanted to. I said, okay, and went outside. There were about four or five tables, and a group of 7 or 8 girls had pushed three tables together and commandeered all the chairs from the other tables. There were two tables that were just empty because all the seats had been stolen away. There was just... literally nowhere to sit. Normally I wouldn't mind this, but if Brown Bee can be so pernickity about laptops, perhaps they could also monitor to make sure the intended seating arrangements aren't being hijacked by giant groups. I would have happily sat outside and worked there. Anyway, having nowhere to sit, I just... went home! So much for carving out a little writing time for myself on the weekend. Don't get me wrong: I know why they have this policy. They don't want college kids camping out all day. They want customers moving through the space in a rotating fashion so they can keep spending money. Well, hey, guess what. Your genius policy backfired. I'm not a college student, but I am an adult with a disposible income. I spent $20 here on food, a drink, and a tip only to get kicked out. How did that feel? Yeah, not great. Not only will I never be back here, but I will make sure to tell everyone I know never to go to the Brown Bee. If you're looking for a coffee shop in Providence where this draconian, paternalistic laptop policy doesn't exist, I recommend checking out RiffRaff, White Electric, New Harvest, Coffee Exchange, or just like... literally any other coffee shop in this city.
