I came here as part of Providence Coffee Crawls. I had been here before and loved my experience, so I was looking forward to visiting again. The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items. read more

I bought a cinnamon bun ($5) and it was basic. Once you bite it, you realize it is just a brioche donut with some frosting. There were no cinnamon-butter layers inside it. The frosting was incredible though. That stuff could go on anything. The cinnamon buns at Oak Bakeshop and Whole Foods are much better with those typical gooey layers inside. Also, it was not large in size, anyone can eat it in one sitting. The worker who took my order was very friendly and it is so nice/comfortable inside there. read more

I stopped in for a coffee meet up with a friend and we ended up ordering food. I got the breakfast sandwich and she ordered quiche. She cleaned her plate and mine was pretty good, too. The highlight of my sandwich was the English muffin which tastes homemade (in the best way). I had a lavender iced coffee, but cocktails, wine, and beer are also an early morning option. Staff was friendly, professional, and informative about the menu selection. Ambiance is farm house, shabby chic with a coastal vacation house flare. Patronage on a Wednesday at 10am was remarkably lively, but we were still able to carry on a conversation without raising our voices. What a wonderful night out. Ellie's at Night was just amazing and we enjoyed every bit of our evening. When we heard it was a bakery by day, we thought it might be awkward for a dinner service but boy were we wrong. The space was so warm and relaxing, cozy and inviting. And the food and drink? Amazing. My cocktail was one of the best I've had in quite a while. The same for my husband. Really inventive and tasty. And the food was incredible. We had the fois gras, baked cheve, pork chops with polenta, panna cotta and madelienes. Every bite was so wonderful. Great little coffee house located in the arts District of downtown Providence. It was a little bit crowded, but Alane our hostess was able to secure a table for four against the window. The line moves very efficiently. Everyone here is so nice and friendly. They really made us feel at home. The food here is simply divine simple yet elegant. Their signature breakfast sandwich that you can order with different kinds of protein, like bacon sausage etc. was cooked to perfection. We also had the chocolate croissant which was so light and flaky with a bit of semi dark chocolate it was a perfect bite with their delicious coffee. If you're in the downtown arts District of Providence, this is definitely worth a stop. read more

2nd time coming to Ellie's, but first time dining in and taking in the beutiful atmosphere and freshness of the cafe. First off they use New Harvest medium roast with a nutty and graham cracker like tones, Im usually not a fan of medium roast of nutty tones, but my the barista and those beans. He pulled a perfect shot on my latte and it was heavenly. The food and service are so welcoming, staff is politely checking in on every table and those in lines. I highly appreciate the love the staff show for the place. I recommend arriving early to beat the line and grab the perfect tables near the windows for that warmth touch and scenery. Beyond the delicious bites, relaxing ambiance, cute knick knacks and lovely decor, Ellie's hospitality makes the spot that much more memorable. Greeted by a welcoming hostess, and friendly faces all around. It is a must to go for breakfast/lunch for the ambiance at the very least. And the quiche... blew my mind. Wow! The best cinnamon roll I've ever had. Slightly crunchy without being dry or stale. The icing wasn't overtly sweet and you could taste the cinnamon and butter in every bite- yes get it heated up. Egg sandwich (we got a sausage and bacon one) excellent! Different approach but still flavorful and not messy, or greasy- we loved the tomato jam. The only thing I wasn't totally crazy about was the latte. Excellent milk frothing but the flavor (I got the seasonal lavender) was very faint. I just wish it was more lavender forward. We were looking for a brunch spot and came upon Ellie's new location. It's a nice venue, new, bright and lined with windows. They also have a row of tables outside. We grabbed an open table and placed our order at the counter. We selected: * Signature Breakfast Sandwich: Hen egg, Cabot cheddar, tomato jam * Side Dish: 1 Fried Egg * French Brie: black mission fig jam, toasted Marcona almonds, tender baby greens Though you order at the counter, your food is brought to the table, and we thought the service was friendly and excellent. The Breakfast Sandwich is much, much better than any fast-food restaurant, but it needed more sauce, as it was too dry. The fried egg side is a round, flat and dry egg, which I added to the breakfast sandwich which is on the smaller side. Overall, it was okay, but not great. The French Brie sandwich was tastier than the breakfast sandwich, the jam and nuts added flavor and crunch. We prefer a warm brie; this brie is a cold block of brie which we didn't find too appealing. We will return here and try some other dishes. Overall, 3.5-stars rounded up to 4-stars because of the venue and speedy service. read more

Rating: 4.3 Came to try Ellie's for breakfast. It's a breakfast/bakery restaurant on Westminster street in Providence. Street parkings available. When we got there there was a line waiting out the door. After looking at the menu we decided to place order online while we visited Mariachi Japanese grocery market. By the time we finished at the grocery store the order was ready. We came back and grabbed our drink and food and sat down to eat. Inside and outside seatings are available. I ordered breakfast sandwich with extra egg, sausage, and avocado, chocolate croissants and iced mocha. I added chocolate as sweetener for iced mocha and it was perfectly sweet with hint of chocolate flavor. It was not too sweet and you can taste the hint of chocolate as well as the coffee. The chocolate croissant was nice and flaky, fluffy and little bit of chocolates inside. I preferred more chocolate but was still tasty. The breakfast sandwich was simple but was still pretty good. Nicely cooked fluffy egg with savory flavor of sausage pairs well with tomato jams. My only gripe was that avocado wasn't included probably a mistake. Service was ok the long line can be frustrating. Luckily we just bypassed it with online order. Overall the place was good. I like the place and would come back. I would always plan to order a head because I don't think I would go there if i have to wait in a line. Parking can be tricky during busy hours as well since it's in Providence. read more

Ordered a croissant and cappuccino. There was a line so coffee took 10 min longer than the immediate croissant. Coffee was near perfect excellent latte work and temperature. Yo my taste it lacked a bit more coffee flavor meaning it felt a hair acidic and I don't want to say sour. Croissant was very crispy and loved that texture. Unlike traditional one it was made with what looks like whole wheat. To me it lacked the butteriness and a bit dry. I will definitely try other pastries. read more

I really want to like Ellie's as much as I used to but alas! Pre-Covid Ellie's was my go-to for work meetings, catering, and pre-PPAC. My most recent visit was with PVD Coffee Crawls and I will at least say the workers on the weekend were actually nice and my drink was tasty. Over the last few years when I've gone to visit on weekdays, the staff are rude and I left multiple times with not a full order. I went back a few times because it was for work and this was their preferred place to order from. But the last time I went there for a work order I appalled. The cashier was kind but he seemed new so didn't seem to know much. The woman filling the pastry order was talking to co workers and didn't seem to care that I was waiting and there was a line. She then gave me my order and didn't give me my 24 macaroons. Then gave me attitude that she had to get boxes downstairs for them. When i finally got to the office I was missing 3 of the pastries that I paid for, and one that I asked for but never ended up on my receipt. Wasn't worth the call back to them honestly. I've gone for lunch with a friend before too, she really wanted to try it and then her sandwich was burnt. I don't really get the hype. It is super cute but very expensive and not consistent quality and sometimes the service is downright rude. read more

We were looking for a place to go for dessert and wine before our PPAC show and thought Ellie's fit the bill! We walked in and were able to grab a seat without an issue. It did quickly fill up soon after and space was at a premium. The two waitstaff were both super friendly, but also very overrun! Unfortunately we were surprised to see that with the wienbar they do not offer dessert. Well let me clarify, we ordered wine and a coffee, and then were directed to the small plates. We didn't see any dessert out or anything on the menu. By the time our server came back to our table we just had to give them the check and go. Such a mixed opportunity to not have lovely after dinner desserts out. The wine was tasty and they had a great selection. Also appreciated that the price point was very reasonable. Another great afternoon at Ellie's! The service is always top notch, even when it is super busy from being a Sunday afternoon during the Holiday Market. My go-to is the chai latte which is perfectly balanced with a little sweetness and spice. The croissant also paired perfectly! During busy times, expect to wait in line for a little bit; it does move quickly though. The table situation can sometimes be difficult with some people staying to work on their computers, some staying for a quick latte, and others here for a longer lunch. Super buttery, flaky enough to make a mess, clearly baked that morning. No sad, sitting-around-all-day vibes. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. What a great find for brunch! This is an order at the counter and seat yourself restaurant. This causes me a little unease because it's not always easy to find a table. We got lucky. A woman who works there recommended the Croque Monsieur so I tried that. My husband had the Signature Breakfast Sandwich. We split a cinnamon bun and a canele which I've never had before. The woman told us that canele are hard to find because making them is a time consuming process. They have many pastries and delicious food. It's a very cozy place. It's been years since I've been back to Ellie's and was excited to give it another shot. I came in thinking of the roast beef sandwich. I suppose they rotate their menu items, I was inclined to order the braised beef panini when I saw it. It's a play on Italian beef from what I could tell. I'll be honest, this was a one-dimensional sandwich for me and didn't live up to.my expectations. After the first bite I could tell it was a little flat so I quickly asked for some additional garlic aioli to go on the side. The staff was happy to accommodate and was quick to get that over for me. While it helped, it still didn't add what I felt was missing. In my opinion, this was a rich, comfort food sandwich, if that's what you're looking for, you'll love it. If you're looking for exciting and some vibrant flavors, this won't do it for you. I wished there was more acidity. It could have used more of the giardiniera pickled vegetables and maybe instesd of a garlic aioli, it could have been a lemon garlic aioli with some lemon juice and zest added in. It really needed something to help it pop. I'm a little disappointed that it was $20 and I didn't really love it, but I do have to be fair and confess I feel all the ingredients were high quality and for what composed the sandwich, it was executed well. The bread was crisp, caramelized, and texturally very nice. The beef had decent flavor, like I said, just fell a bit flat on my taste buds. The pork sandwich that my wife got in the other hand, oof. That was top notch. I'd get that next time. Honorable mention for the side salad. Delicious dressing on there to go with the sandwich. Also, the cafe itself is comfortable, there are a good amount of seating options and people are up and out pretty steadily, so I don't think you'll wait long for a seat. Overall, pleasant visit. On August 24, 2024, Ellie's opened their new location at 250 Westminster Street with the main entrance on Union Street, where Kleos used to be. Kleos closed back in February. The dining room now has 40 seats and an open-concept pastry-finishing kitchen. Outdoor seating has room for 20 people overlooking Grant's Block Park. A private room can accommodate up to 10. It is much larger than their previous location. I recognized many of the staff members. I came here on a Sunday around noon and there was a line to order. I ordered the Avocado Toast and the seasonal lemonade. My husband ordered the French green lentil bowl. After ordering, I found 2 seats at a round table in the middle of Ellie's and placed our order number stand on the table. About 15 minutes later, our food was brought out. The Avocado Toast had watermelon radish, lime, candied jalapeno, cherry tomatoes, and cilantro. It was so delicious! I really enjoyed the seasonal lemonade too. It had hints of jasmine tea. Because I couldn't resist, I also ordered a chocolate macaron and a strawberry rose champagne macaron. The shell is so soft and the filling is tasty. I am so happy that Ellie's is back! read more

The large windows allow for natural light to brighten the room and you can watch the pastries being made while you wait in line. Staying in downtown Providence, we walked looking for Sunday morning coffee/light breakfast, ideally outdoors since the weather was so nice. We found Ellie's among cobblestone streets in "old town" Providence, which made it all the more charming. We were grateful to find them open in such a quiet area of town. Inside has a clean, welcoming atmosphere, high ceilings, open kitchen, good amount of seating. One minor issue: the printed menu we found upon entering was for brunch/lunch. The menu on the wall, visible from the line, was the same. We had to get all the way up to the counter before we found the breakfast menu, just as we were informed by our cashier they were only serving breakfast before 11am. This left us unprepared so we needed to make a quick choice not to hold up the line. That said, we placed our order and sat outside across from the gardens and dog park.
