Despite ALL emergency discharge paperwork and verbal instructions to "follow up with cardiology asap," reception tells me the records don't indicate a need for follow up. Unsure how we can be looking at identical records and seeing different d/c instructions? Reception then informs me I must obtain a physical referral from the ER (easier said than done) although my insurance doesn't require referrals. When I asked about the next available appt (should I choose to get the referral), I'm told: "it will be late November IF you're lucky." Unacceptable! Unsure how a practice with 30+ providers is unable to A: view medical records correctly and B: provide emergency follow-up care in a timely way? I thought Winchester/Valley Health was supposed to be a leader in cardiovascular medicine? That was certainly NOT the impression we were given. Dr Ott…read more I want to publicly thank Dr. Ott at Selma Medical Center for the exceptional care and advocacy she recently provided me during a very serious medical situation. I have suffered from blood clots in my legs and lungs for more than 10 years. A few weeks ago, I went to the ER and was diagnosed again with blood clots and placed on blood thinners. During my follow-up appointment, Dr. Ott became very concerned about my condition and instructed me to return to Winchester Medical Center to be admitted for surgical treatment. Unfortunately, after spending nearly five hours in the ER, I was seen briefly by the ER physician, who never examined my leg and discharged me home. Dr. Ott did not accept that outcome. She spent hours personally investigating what had happened, reviewing records, identifying multiple errors in the ER doctor's report, and tirelessly advocating on my behalf until I was finally admitted to the hospital for the surgery I needed. What impressed me most was that she did all of this while continuing to manage a full day of patients. I later learned that the delays this caused in her schedule led to complaints from others, yet she never stopped fighting for my care and safety. Dr. Ott's compassion, professionalism, persistence, and willingness to advocate for her patient may very well have saved me from a much more serious outcome. In today's healthcare world, physicians like her are rare and deserve to be recognized. I will never forget the kindness and dedication she showed me. Thank you, Dr. Ott.

He then told her that the only option was open heart surgery and he wanted to do it ASAP, even though he said she would have 70% chance of complications because of her COPD. He told us that she would not live to see her next birthday unless we did the surgery now. His assistant had to look at a chart to explain what was wrong and didn't know where anything was. My mom left the office scared to death and planning her funeral basically. Winchester has went downhill with doctors so I looked online and found John's Hopkins was very successful with heart surgeries. They got her in quickly and told her she had a couple different options. Two months later my mom had the mitral valve clip surgery and is home with her family with no complications. This guy was ready to put my mom in the ground and didn't care about referring her to someone else who offered more options. STAY AWAY....

Dr. Schwentker was my physician. I made an urgent appointment for excruciating back pain. He…read morerefused to order any imaging and instead required 6 weeks of physical therapy. So I went to PT and they said they were not comfortable treating me since it was obviously nerve pain. When I reported this to Dr. Schwentker he again insisted I complete 6 weeks of physical therapy before he would order imaging. I went to another physician who immediately ordered an MRI which showed a herniated disc. The neurosurgeon said I was lucky I didn't have permanent loss of use of my foot due to the delay in surgery. I don't know if Dr. Schwentker is in the pocket of an insurance company, but his motivation is certainly not the best interest of the patient.
