I'd rather support my local gun stores at that point. Their in store selection is not far from average. I'd say they have a nice collection of bulk ammo but other than that all the guns they have in store could be picked up at a local Shields, Dicks sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shop. I've been buying from Brownells for several decades, back before the internet when you had to place telephone orders. They were always the gold standard for customer service and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Over the last few years, this company has grown substantially from a small family-run business to a large brick-and-mortar, as well as internet-sales business. Unfortunately, in the process of growing so rapidly, the company seems to have lost it's way Customer service is poor and the supposed technical "experts" it employs are laughable. Much of what they say about a product is wrong. When I ask a technical question about a product, I often get told to go the manufacturer's website and look for the answer myself. I recently returned a part they mis-advertised. I have been waiting nearly 2 weeks for a credit, but still no action on their part. That's pretty poor service. Unfortunately, for many things I need or want, Brownells is the only source. However, when I need something, I always first check Amazon. Much of my business now goes to Amazon. It's cheaper generally, much faster, easier to return items, and credits are posted far more quickly. Sorry to see this company slip. Don't believe the edited reviews on Bizrate or other sites where Brownells has edited reviews or paid for good ones. Both of my Brownells experiences were far from satisfying. In the latest case I needed an item shipped by 2-day air so as to avoid delivery while out of town the following week. The web site kept flipping the order back to 7-day default, no matter how many times I reset the choice to 2-day air. It finally displayed my choice correctly, along with the extra charge. I clicked on "Submit" and next thing that came up was a confirmation showing 7-day delivery again! I called and tried to get it changed, but the company was "unable" to upgrade the shipping. The item was shipped anyway, was delivered while I was out of town, and apparently stolen during that time. Now I am trying to process a chargeback on my credit card. Beware. Brownells has really stepped up their game when it comes to shipping, well, sort of. I have recently ordered ammo from them and have received it in a couple days. They are in Iowa. I'm in St. Louis, Missouri. So I'm pretty close to them, etc. I ordered a rifle recently and I got a notice it was going to be delivered on Thursday of this week, then got another notice saying the label had been created, but it had not been picked up by FedEx and it took three business days from label creation to pick up by FedEx. I just do not get it, at all. They need to figure out how Midway USA has figured out how to get stuff out the door as quickly as they do. read more

I'm an avid firearm builder, outdoorsman, and spend lots of time on the range, so when I found Brownells years ago...I was overjoyed. Unfortunately, my constant poor experiences have finally discontinued any and all relations with this company as they live on the reputation hat they once had, but fail to maintain. I cannot tell you how many times I've placed orders and had the shipping take an abnormally long time, but when I reach out to customer service I'm told...it's my fault and I should have paid more for expedited shipping. Even as an "Edge" member this continued. Now, onto the customer service...or extreme lack thereof! I was getting tired of the smug comments over live chat and the 2-3 week (and sometimes longer) email responses, so I started calling when I had issues (and I had many!). I would like to say that over the phone they were a tad nicer...but that would be incorrect. I get sighs and attitude, sorry there is nothing we can do for you and overall a complete lack of customer service. My most recent, and my last transaction ever, occurred when I placed an order in April of 2018, using one of their online codes that gives free 2 day shipping. I received one of the two items I ordered quickly (shocking) and I got an email stating that one of the items was on backorder and would be in stock early May. In mid-May I emailed...no reply, so I live chat and I'm told that it would be the end of May now. I inquire about the shipping and I'm told that it would fall under the 2 day. End of May comes and goes and I call and I'm told that there was no current timeframe for the item but that it would drop 2 day once it was in stock. Now, here we are at the end of June and low and behold...I get an email that the item has now shipped, but it will arrive a week and a half later. Easy right? Call and they will work it out, right? Wrong! I called and got the most rude, unhelpful person, who straight out told me there was nothing she could do and that the free shipping only applied to the first item that shipped. When I repeated that to her she said, well you got free 2 day shipping already so the other item defaults to standard slow rate shipping. Nowhere in the promo code I used did it state any of that. She can't cancel the item, she can't expedite the shipping she literally did nothing...typical Brownells! Save yourself the time, money, headache and shop elsewhere! Customer service is absolute TRASH! I placed an order on 03/08, and 14 days later I still do not have the item or a refund. Here is how it all began... I placed the order, and received a phone call from Brownells to confirm my order. The rep said the order will go out that day. At that point, I was happy with the prompt processing, but it all went down hill from there. The FFL that I was having the pistol transferred to contacted me stating that they were out of town, and I can have Brownells recall the package and have it sent to another FFL, or wait until they return. I chose to have them recall it if possible, or I can just wait, so the FFL requested that the package be recalled. The FFL was told that it wasn't a guarantee that it would be recalled, so we just waited. Mind you, Brownells still has not contacted me directly about this issue. A couple days have passed, and the tracking number shows that the item has arrived and is scheduled to be delivered. At that point, we figured that Brownells was not able to recall the package, and it would be delivered. Therefore, the FFL made arrangements for someone to sign for the package, when it came. Again, no problem. It turns out the package was then recalled that day, and sent back to Brownells. AGAIN, no communication from Brownells. I call, email, online chat and all I get are apologies. They tell me they can't just resend the order, and they have to return it, but I can PAY for another item in the meantime. I ask them to just resend it, and they again cannot guarantee it. It has now been 14 days since I originally placed the order. I contact them via online chat, and I am told that they received the item back on 03/15 and it takes 15 days to refund the order. FIFTEEN DAYS. I ask for an email confirming they have received the item back and it will be refunded. John at Brownells says he cant send that in an email. I STILL HAVE NO RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION REGARDING THE ORDER! Why must I hunt them down to get answers? I am never ordering from them again. I ordered parts and tools over a week ago. I compared prices, and because Brownells was $6 cheaper on a $100 order than other places online I figured I'd go with them. This was my first experience ordering from Brownells and can honestly say it's probably my last. After a week from placing my order and receiving a confirmation email, I just now received a notification saying my order JUST NOW shipped. So it's been a week from the time I ordered until they even shipped my items. IMO this is way, way below the "industry standard" as I have ordered from big name companies (Midway) or small mom and pops and my orders have shipped same day or at least the next business day. To top it off, when I was trying to initially place my order via the website it repeatedly rejected my credit card simply saying "There was an error processing your card". After contacting customer service I was told there was a problem with the credit card processing so I asked if I could just complete the order and pay via phone. Their answer? "No, they are all tied together so we can't process any credit cards." This is so far below how a big name company in this industry should operate. Ultra-slow shipping and poor sales processing. I am a first time customer and most likely a last time customer as this has been nothing less than a headache. First my order was stuck being processed for over a week. After me contacting brownells I was informed that I had to call a verification team in which I wouldn't have known about unless I contacted brownells then when I got "verified" the shipping got messed up. The shipping label was created and after another week I contacted them agian. It Is now getting forwarded to their claims team as they don't know if it left or not. since it "shipped" a refund can't be issued although they don't know if it shipped or not.... I got an email from fed ex saying they were delivered. I work from home, so I went out to look. Nothing there. Called Brownells. They said the packages were probably stolen. They would check with fed ex. 6 days later, Brownells sent me an email saying fed ex confirmed they delivered the packages to my house on the date specified and I should file a police report. Funny, I found the packages on my porch in a bag a few days after fed ex says they were delivered. Likely delivered by a neighbor who was mistakenly delivered my packages. Fed ex confirmation is worthless. They fill out the delivery forms before the packages are delivered. It even says this on the Brownells website. There is no photo of the packages on the porch as Amazon provides. The bottom line - Brownells is anti-customer. HORRIBLE customer service! OK, so I'm a novice at building 80% Glock-21s. This was to be my first build, so I was very careful to do my research, reading EVERY WORD of every website from all the vendors I researched. I decided to order item #100-032-875WB from Brownell's, an 80% lower in .45. What a mistake! The item arrived on 12/11/20, and upon opening the box I discovered it was missing many parts that were promised in their ad, which states: "Each of the PF45 80% Glock Frames require finishing by the end-user. After that step, the kit also includes all the parts necessary to finish a standard, Glock-compatible frame." That's a lie! Their kit does NOT include all the parts necessary. YOU must purchase thirteen (13) parts to complete the frame. Do NOT believe what Brownell's say on their website, it's a lie. After the frame arrives you'll discover that the parts are NOT included! A call to Tech Support proved worthless. They then transferred me to some guy named Dustin, who proved to be their designated obfuscating, double-speaking spinmeister. I read to him, word-for-word, their ad, promising all the parts necessary. He, very grudgingly, admitted that wording might be "a little bit misleading." Misleading?? Seems VERY clear to me! Spinmeister Dustin refused to stand behind their ad, but did make the magnanimous offer to change the wording on the website. To date, 1/5/21, he has NOT done so, so LET'S ALL BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! On July 6th 2022 I purchased an areo precision lower to be shipped to a local FFL from Brownells. I choose this particular FFL based off of the advertised price of $20 and being a "Brownells Featured Dealer" for receiving the transfer. Upon arrival at the FFL on July 13th 2022 I noticed signs indicating that "as of 7/1/2021 the transfer fee for receiving would be $50) I was then charged the higher transfer fee for my transaction. Upon reaching out to Brownells and speaking with their lovely customer service team they informed me that the FFL department said "there was nothing they could do and it was just an unfortunate situation." I asked if they could do anything on their end to rectify the sistuation and was given the same answer, "that their was nothing they could do." I brought to their attention that the choice to use them as a retailer and the particular FFL was made on the material fact that the website lists the Fee as $20, had I known it would be 150% more I may have chosen a diffrent retailer or FFL. I do not blame the FFL as their sign shows this has been in effect for more than a year at this point. Being a "featured dealer" I was working on the assumption that the listing would be correct. While it is not a large sum of money ($30) I belive that being a responsible informed consumer is important and having retailers not disclosing correct prices is a shame and make it difficult to do buisness. read more

I had an order of over $1200 for their Black Friday deals and ended up getting $250 off a upper reciever, 13% off, and free 2 day shipping discount code for it which saved me quite a bit. I never received a notification that it was being shipped or anything and that it was on hold so I contacted customer support 5 days later and they said that that is usual but she could help me out and give me next day shipping if they changed my order to be placed on that day. So I though all good, I'm not in any hurry. I called again 3 days later because nothing has changed on my order and they confirmed with me that my order date was changed so I could get the free next day shipping but they forgot to mention to me that by doing that it got rid of all of my previous coupon codes. So I argued with them for a long time about shorting me around $450+ and they said that there was nothing that they could do so I got pissed and hung up. I called again the next day and explained all of this to a new person and then asked to talk to someone higher up than her because she was very rude. I talked to someone else and told her about another deal that was going on that day for 10% off the order. She argued with me but ended up getting me the 10% off which somehow was only $31 Off of a now $1450 order... I then proceeded to get called stupid for not knowing how to do math and that %10 off of $1450 is $31... I got pissed off and hung up... I just got a notification that my order has been shipped this morning with next day delivery and will be delivered on 12/17... That is actually in 4 days... So long story short. I got cheated out of $600 or so dollars and next day shipping is actually 15 days from when you place the order. This is the only business I've ever given one star to. I went to make my first purchase from and was excited for what I was ordering because there was a good deal. I processed my order and all seemed well. A few days later I received an email stating due to fraud protection they from wanted more info. No problem I'm cool with that. So I made sure I called from the phone number associated with my order, I verbally confirmed all my info such as card number, billing, shipping etc. Then the lady told me I will receive another email that will request photos of my ID and credit card. Which I was a little confused by and not really cool with I relented. Despite my ID reflecting the same name on all my accounts, the same shipping billing info AND provided photos of my card and also the Apple screens associated with that card, I was told that the only way to proceed was via a bank transfer. I have NEVER had to jump through so many hoops to make a simple non FFL product. If you are using an Apple Card don't bother as the number is not printed on the card they will not accept it even if you provide the info from Apple. Twice! I bought a Rifle barrel and it didn't show up. First time I didn't buy the shipping protection. Because the option doesn't show up in the checkout page (took a screenshot to prove it). Apparently you have to "add/buy" it into the shopping cart page (the option wasn't there for me). The item was also backordered. I got the e-mails saying it was delivered. but when I got home it was gone. Ok fine, my fault for not adding shipping protection..... So I grieved and complained until I decided to try one more time. I bought a barrel (backordered again) AND the shipping protection and ordered again. Well guess what, I got the emails and all that fun stuff until I got the email saying it was delivered and when I got home there was no package. I immediately went on there website to file a claim. Didn't hear back for almost a month. (understandably for covid-19 like all businesses) So I filed another claim. Finally got a BS response saying that they didn't received the first claim, and that my previous claim before(the one without shipping protection) was processed/closed. So I responded to them with all the emails I've received regarding this claim. The proof of purchase, the confirmations, the listed items in the order and demanded they enforce their "Shipping Protection Claim" policy. I've asked them to rather refund my money or send me the product item i purchase. I've spent almost $500 for 2 items that I haven't yet received. And have received little to no customer service help. If this is how they treat customers when there's an issue, I will take my business elsewhere. I ordered a product on sale from them. It was a $130 part that i got for $100. It was a great sale. However, they shipped the product by USPS (their first mistake). The tracking says it was delivered. It says it was placed at the garage. I do not have a garage at my house. I was home on the day it says it was delivered but I never received anything. I called Brownells and they say to call USPS (like they would do anything about it). They wouldn't give me a refund or ship me a new item because it was "delivered."
