I cannot believe the incompetence of the staff at the UNC Charlotte location. I dropped my watch off for a broken crystal and they said they would have to send it away and it would take between 4 to 6 weeks for repair. They gave me the claim slip and said they would contact me when it was ready to be picked up. After two months, I decided to give them a call because I had heard nothing from them. When I called, a man answered the phone and told me that they had my watch and that they could not repair it. Why in the world did nobody call me? Was I supposed to magically know that the factory sent it back to the store? I will NEVER go back to this location!!!! read more

So I went to Brownlee Jewelers two days ago to have my watch repaired and the woman who helped me looked at my watch which needed link repair and told me that my watch was not repairable because the links at the top could not be removed and i would have to buy an entire new band. I did not believe this because i had ordered the replacement links from the watch company. I then went to the local michael kors to see if this was true and I found out this was not the case. The representative at michael kors stated i would not need a new watch band and it could be fixed without a new band although they did not have the tools to do it at their location as it was the king pin that was needed (not that the upper links couldn't be removed as i was told by the employee at Brownlee) and suggested another jewelry store that could fix it. I am giving Brownlee one star because she looked at my watch for all of 5 seconds told me it couldn't be fixed because the links couldn't be removed so close to the watch face when that simply wasn't true and then stated i would need an entire new band which was also incorrect. had she just stated they didn't have the necessary tools I might have been a return customer for my other jewelry wants/needs. read more

Brownlee is a local jeweler that's been in the Charlotte area for many years. They have mostly small stores and are more of a small town jeweler that has repeat customers that they've had for years.....now just because they're small doesn't mean the prices are cheap. It's a nice place for a bracelet, ring, watch or watch battery, etc. I have purchased several rings from them over the years and never had any problems and found the quality to be pretty darn good. I usually go to have my rings cleaned and to browse for sales. I'm actually surprised they've survived in this economy, so I guess they're doing something right. read more

I have been in there recently and a black man came up to me to ask if I liked the engagement ring he was getting and was being helped by a white men. Let me tell you he was so excited about the ring and I told him truthfully she would love it! He and I've heard of others, including myself and my family have been treated with respect and kindness and consideration at Brownlee Jewelers! Sometimes I just go to browse and the employees are friendly and willing to talk to you! There is no pressure to make a purchase It is fun just to go in there and look! The atmosphere in there store is very relaxed friendly and considerate between shoppers and employees. There is a diversity of shoppers and employees in there stores! Went to this Brownlee Jewelers simply to get a watch resized, which they said would cost me $10 (more expensive than other places I've gone, but no big deal). The girl I worked with took out the amount of links she thought was appropriate and told me that if she took out any more links, the watch would not fit on my wrist despite the watch being extremely loose. I told her that I liked my watches to fit snug and asked if another link could be taken out. After her saying no, I went home and ordered a watch resizing kit off of amazon for $8, took out two more links, and now the watch fits correctly. For someone who works in jewelry, I expect more expertise and better service. I wish there was a way to get my money back from this establishment, but it is not worth the effort. For those looking to get a metal link watch resized, simply order a kit to do it yourself or go to a place that is willing to do the process properly. read more

It is amazing what constitutes customer service these days. I needed a new setting for my 1 1/2 carat blue diamond as it has gotten loose. The clerk not only appeared put out that I needed assistance but also proceeded to condescend and ask if I knew the difference between a ring and a setting. Customer service was SO bad. I went in to ask if they could possibly fix my David Yurman bracelet because I was interested in selling it to someone and it was cracked in the middle. The lady behind the counter didn't even bother to get up from her seat before she told me that they could "in no way" fix it and once I told her I was interested in selling it she proceeded to tell me how it was pointless because I wouldn't get anything for it. I went in today to have watch band repaired and my ring inspected. Jessie Spencer greeted me with a friendly smile and asked if she could assist me which she did with a most pleasant attitude. She commented on my ring and recommend that I have it refurbished (rhodium plate); I accepted her recommendation. Enjoyed conversation with Ms. Spencer and the manager, Ivan Scott. Hopefully they will remain at this location. I 've noticed the increased numbers of turnovers within the past 1-2 years. In fact I had an unpleasant experience with the prior manager because I noticed the difference in my gold hooped earrings that I took in for repair. The clasp was different along with the weight. He took them in his hand to compare weight difference saying "he didn't check them in therefore he couldn't make exchange nor adjustment" and walked away. INCOMPETENT & RUDE!! Do not sell your gold to silver to Brownlee Jewelers. I took a small amount of estate silver to Brownlee on University City blvd. to sell. I was quoted a price, I accepted, signed the paper work was given a check & walked out. Three different employees were involved in the transaction. I immediately deposited the check holding out some cash for a Christmas Memorial at the deceased's church. Almost two hours later I receive a phone call saying that due to "human error" I was overpaid by 300.00. They said they were going to stop payment on the check immediately. i was told the owner's wife was responsible for the immediate cancellation of the check. I was offered "gas money" and $20.00 for my inconvenience. I asked for the owner (HAROLD ROUSSO) to call me. This afternoon I went to pick up my merchandise (refusing the paltry "gas money" and $20) and was told that the owner "DIDN'T HAVE TIME" to call me. This is how Mr. Rousso handles incompetence by HIS employees. This is how Mr. Rousso treats his customers. I mean who in this business can look at the amount of silver being sold and write a check for 300 over what it's worth if they have ANY CLUE to what they are doing??? If this is the type of "human error" that goes on at Brownlee Jewelers, we all need to look elsewhere. read more
