Awful. I called Browns on a recommendation. Chris answered. He couldn't give me an estimate for parts & labor without "seeing" the vehicle. I showed up. He was not friendly at all. He needed to "put it on a lift" to check. Took my keys. He pulled it into a bay & closed the door (nice 65 degree day). Returned & said he didn't see anything but I should schedule a full inspection for the following day @$90. I suggested we take a quick drive to take a listen. He said we could do that with the full insp.. He then gave me the parts & labor estimate for what I had asked for. BTW. After acquiring addt'l estimates Brown was 40% higher. read more

You'll likely be better suited exploring different local options for mechanic work. This group is not great at communication nor fast turnout. The work done could be described as fine. But not when considering what they will charge. Anticipate to pay as much as, if not more than a dealership shop. I dropped my truck off on a Wednesday morning at 8 am after booking an appointment for drop off and was told I would hear back in a call from one of the gentleman at the front desk when an estimate was ready. The estimate came via email the following Thursday morning at 11 am. I called in when I hadn't heard anything else and after an hour of receiving that estimate that included a range of noted diagnostics. Only half addressed the problem it was taken in for. Told that they wouldn't be able to start that day as it was a 6 hour job but they could get started the next morning. 2 hours to close on Friday afternoon I received a call that the job was not close to finish and the managers relayed to staff that they were "losing daylight" so they would have to stop and I would have a follow up on Monday around 10 am. Monday at 11 am I received a call that they noted additional requirements to finish the job that would increase the estimate by over $300 as well as delay the finish to 2 pm. At 4 pm I was called to pick up the truck. No notes were provided at the forefront of staffing issues, backlog or any other factors that might cause delays. Had anything been noted prior it would have been more convenient and appropriate to look elsewhere for business. If you rely on your vehicle or might be nervous of up-charging - don't even bother with this location. read more

We went to the shop in Rio Rancho, but I'm sure the pricing is the same at all the locations. We paid $420 for scheduled maintenance! They rotated the tires but did not balance them. They wanted an additional $125 JUST to balance the tires. Costco balanced the tires for $21.55!!! Unless you have really deep pockets, I'd look elsewhere for service. read more

THEY WRECKED MY CAR!!! The Golf Course location. I was a long time customer. I took my car in for an oil change and went next door to have a coffee while I waited. About 10 minutes later they came to ask me how long my tire light has been on and where my spare tire was. My light had never been on and my car has tires that unfortunately don't fit a spare. They proceeded to tell me that my car had a blow out because my tires were rotted! Lie!!! They were brand new tires. They had my car towed and kept it in the shop for 9 days while they ordered new tires. When I went to pick up my car I noticed that my two front rims and my back left rim were extremely damaged. They tried to hide it from me and then finally admitted that they took it for a "test" drive before my oil change and wrecked it! They did cut me a check for the damage and apologized. BUT THEY LIED TO ME! And tried to make it out as though my car had problems before. Super shady. Do not trust them. Especially Derrick at the front desk of the golf course location. read more

Let me start by saying I'm doing my best to divest from fossil fuels. To do so I have a fleet of vehicles including; a road bike, a mountain bike, a hybrid me/electric bike, a 2-stroke scooter and a 25 year old Ford Club Cab, Long Bed, 4WD Eddie Bauer Edition F-150 with a fuel-injected 302 V-8 engine matched to a 5-speed manual transmission. Here's where Brown's comes in. Brown's has been taking care of my truck for more than 10 years. I don't put a lot of miles on the truck but the majority of those are critical operations that involve tools and/or toys, long distances and, often, remote locations. Oh, and precious cargo in the form of family and friends. It hasn't always gone 100% but that's life with mechanical devices. If we meet in person you can ask about the time I got passed by my rear tire. Brown's has always made me whole, though, and over the course of a decade has cost me very little and kept me in an excellent truck whether on regular summer treks pulling my camper and bikes or boats to Jack's Creek in the Pecos, City of Rocks south of the Gila Wilderness, Cochiti, Abiqiu or Sumner Lake. or that time I pulled all the above to South Dakota and th he Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Wall Drug and the Badlands - and then brought everything home in a single 13 hour jaunt. All that for much less than a monthly car payment and full-coverage insurance by a long shot! Heck, I couldn't afford the travel as easy without Brown's! And my money goes directly in to the hands of one of my fellow Burqueños, not to some shareholder institution where 85% of most money spent on cars goes. Then one night somebody t-boned my truck. Ugh. Rather than repair the superficial damage Insurance totaled my truck. I don't say which insurance because they were operating under laws/regs/standards designed to protect the entire, wealth-extracting industry more than the consumer, but, hey, spoiler alert. Having a maintenance partner like Brown's made the decision to apply the insurance settlement to mechanical maintenance and a "salvage title" one I could make with confidence. My truck now has some ugly cosmetic exterior blemishes - and drives like new since Brown's finished all the deferred maintenance they've helped me manage. Vehicular transportation is going to transform exponentially in the next several years. Who knows what the market will offer and what will happen to the value of recent automotive tech. My advice is to hold on to what you've already got - especially if you're no longer financing - as long as you can. Would NOT recommend Browns. They gave me a lowball INITIAL estimate for my repair, I think to get my car into their shop. Then after taking my car to their shop, they raised the FINAL estimate to over 6 times the initial estimate. I knew it was not right, so I said no thanks and took my car to a different shop in the area and got it repaired for less than half of their FINAL estimate. Beware of this tactic. My AC wasn't cooling consistently,blowing cool air then only warm air. At Browns for $250 they checked for leaks and recharged freon but they said there's other issues to almost $600. I never ran AC on high since 5 days later my car was shipped to an out of state buyer who refused purchase since after 15-20 minutes of only cool air it stopped to blow only warm air. A call to Chris didn't provide answers only excuses. read more

We had to take our daughter's Toyota in for brake and rotor repair after driving it from Florida. We were really lucky she made it here without the brakes totally locking up. She had previously had brake work done at the dealer in Florida, but clearly they hadn't fixed the problem. We took it to Don Brown's and they provided a written inspection report with pictures of the problem areas and called with an estimate and to get approval for the work. They had the work completed that afternoon and had even cleaned the car. Our daughter said it had never driven better and noticed a big difference in the brake system. I brought my van here to have my battery fixed on 4-4-22, was charged $1800 to have my battery fixed, strunt assembly, wheel baring and hub assembly and a few other things. Yesterday TJ was driving the van with me, Thomas (5 years old) and Arthur (10 months old). We were on San Mateo passing Academy about to get on the freeway headed to Paseo, when all of a sudden the van completely quit working, we had no power, no use of the brakes and couldn't turn the wheel. Once TJ popped open the hood he discovered Browns Automotive never put a mount on my battery, they literally used zip ties to hold it it place. So we took the van back to them and they said if they determined it was their fault, then they would fix it. Well today we got the call that they did determine they didn't put the mount for the battery and it was their fault. So he "fixed it" and didn't charge us. BUT because the battery moved it severed some of the cables. Browns Automotive decided to fix it by using electrical tape instead of paying for everything to be fixed. The manager told Tj "he's human" and made a mistake and he will put a new battery and pay for labor but wants us to buy the cables we were literally feet from turning onto the freeway and our van could have stopped on I25, who knows what hat would have happened. I'm only asking this company to fix my van, they knowingly admitted to screwing it up. When my father in law called today, the guy literally told him my vans old. My van is old but it shouldn't matter. The cables were not severed, that happened because of them. I'm hoping by putting them on blast, the manager will do the right thing and fix everything. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

We brought 1996 Chevy K1500 to have it looked at because the Check Engine light was on. A diagnostic inspection of the truck's engine was performed and we were told that the engine had misfired due to that cylinder's spark plug being fouled. So, to repair for this problem, a new spark plug and engine induction was recommended by the shop advisor, which we authorized. At this point, we were under the impression that this was the root/source of the problem, and the appropriate remedy/repair for it based on the initial inspection - no other considerations were mentioned as to why it was fouled at this time. In addition to this, other work was done that was not directly related to the spark plug / engine induction procedure. We authorized that additional work because we believed that the actual root of the Check Engine light had already been identified and solved. This turned out to not be the case. The very next day, the engine was again idling rough and the Check Engine light was back on, so we brought it back to the shop. After a second inspection, it was revealed that much more extensive repairs would be required to fix the initial problem - my question being, why wasn't this discovered or discussed after the first inspection? The first inspection and testing should have included figuring out why the spark plug failed in the first place as this would have been essential information for our decision making, and at the time I assumed the root cause had already been investigated. Once it was revealed that more work was necessary, it seemed to me that this question of "why" was never investigated or brought to our attention the first time. My frustration lies in the fact that this additional work, which is what actually lies at the root of the original problem, was either missed, ignored, or the initial inspection was not thorough enough to discover it. Now, we've been told that in order to fix the original problem, another $2k-$3k in repairs must be performed. A similar situation happened before, in 2019 with your shop where our vehicle failed directly after repair; we brought the same truck and repairs were made, and the next day the truck was dead in my driveway. It turned out that the alternator had died and needed to be replaced. Giving the shop the benefit of the doubt, we authorized replacement of the alternator (which we paid for) and were happy with the outcome. I understand that the truck is very old and the situation is complicated and costly. However, we were misled with really bad advice after the first inspection. I feel I was sold a band-aid solution for the problem with fingers crossed that it would fix it, with unnecessary extras tacked on. Again, if the original inspection had told me the full story of what was needed, like it should have, vastly different decisions would have been made. After reviewing the company's job postings and finding that the service advisors are paid on commission, I now understand why they would be incentivized to provide bad advice which could lead to additional repairs. read more

I would be happy to share my nightmare with your company. Was traveling down to the hot air balloon festival the rear differential went out. Being from out of town, I went to your station for service. When I told them that I had a warranty on the drive train, I was told that the rear differiential was not a part of the drive train. They replaced the system and sent me on my way without telling me I needed to drive 500 miles to break it in before I hooked up my camper to drive back to Wisconsin. Needless to say it gave out again on the way home and we were stuck for a week while it was serviced. If only don and his son would have been honest and truthful! Beware!!!!! read more

I can't believe these guys are still in business! This place began by telling me I'd need a new battery to even begin a diagnosis. It was fine when I towed it there so I suggested a door may have been left open, so jump it. They said they'd try that & call back. Then, they said nope, needs a battery before they can do anything & to put a new one in & diagnose the issue, it'd cost $350! Unhappily, I said OK & was later told that when my timing belt broke it bent the valves in my NON-INTERFERENCE Motor, (Not likely)& I'd need $5000 to replace it! I had them put my original battery back in & towed it home and here's the kicker: MY BATTERY WORKS JUST FINE! They lied about that & should give me back the ENTIRE $277.00 I paid to have them switch my battery (twice) FOR NO REASON & to diagnose absolutely NOTHING! read more
