Brown's has no excuse to deny that simple request except for greed and laziness. When requested and PAID FOR, a hard copy of Brown's Inspection Report should be provided. We lost power and our Yukon died on the hw scary. It did restart but we knew we needed to check it out before heading into co as the roads are curvy and steep. After 4 phone calls and no luck trying to get in. Called browns went in and they did a thorough check. I requested service for a potential electrical draw on my vehicle, I confirmed with the technician prior to drop off that they were capable of fixing the issue. The tech mentioned that they can look into the electrical draw. I dropped the vehicle off Thursday morning and was expecting a daily update. -nothing. I understood that Brown's needed to keep the vehicle for several hours in order to determine what is the issue with the electrical draw. Day one passed and no updates from the technician, day two passed and no updates from the clinician. I called the tech and asked for an update, but he expressed that they're still looking into it. I was doing their job. The weekend passed and Brown's kept the vehicle, Monday I called Brown's for an update, and was told the mechanic called-in and the electrical issue remained unresolved. Brown's later called me and sent me a full inspection report, they requested I take the vehicle to another company that specializes in electrical issues. I reviewed the inspection report of the other diagnostic item, after five days of keeping the vehicle, they didn't offer to fix the other items within their scope (oil change, hose change out, etc). A day later the technician called and sent me a list of cost to fix the items, an estimate of over 2K! There was no recognition of the oversight, the time without my jeep, or the poor customer service. I would expect a small discount for the issues that transpired, but nothing. I would not recommend Brown's Automotive, their was poor customer service and no sense of accountability. Very disappointed. read more

We took our truck in to get the air conditioner fixed. We paid $610. Two days later, no cold air. We took it back to see what was going on. They said it had a leak so they fixed that and charged us another $620! What happened to the warranty?? They missed that leak the first time and we had to pay to have it fixed again. Wasn't the diagnostic test supposed to catch that? We planned on making them our go-to mechanics but not anymore. They don't stand by their warranty. read more

Unfortunately I chose the shop closest to my house (car would not start), instead of a trusted shop further down the road. At the end of the day, I paid $250 for a starter replacement that I did not need, along with highly inflated diagnostic labor charges. It took me 30 minutes to install a $30 starter in this vehicle when I did it. Due to space limitations, apparently it was not installed at precisely the correct geometry. An experienced shop would have diagnosed this within 5 minutes of having the car on the lift and fixed the issue (MAYBE installing a new starter if necessary.) Instead, there was never an actual diagnosis, just attempts to throw parts at the problem when they happened upon the solution, still overcharging (2 hours to install a starter when I did it on my back in 30 minutes?!) me in the process. I called the owner Dustin and he offered shop labor credit - sorry I won't be back. I was REALLY hoping this would be an honest, experienced, local shop I could trust. Oh, and my car sat there for a week as it was constantly pushed to the backburner after assurances that it would be next up in the work flow. read more

Brought in my 1964 Chevelle Malibu for a diagnostic check on systems and to see why the points were burning out rapidly. They are very professional, take the time to explain what they find and recommend work to be done by priority to help decide how to budget for it. I didn't feel I was being taken for a "ride". They take the time to explain thoroughly rather than look at you and act as if you are an ignorant fool like so many mechanics are wont to do. Nice touch was the follow up call a week later to see how the car was getting along. Oh, and the wonderfully preserved old Route 66 station is an added plus. Thanks for being thoughtful! read more

I first discovered this shop when my car was towed there by AAA and have continued to use them since. They're honest and give great deals on their work. They'll also send an email with a breakdown of what needs to be fixed and will wait for a sign off before any work is done. read more

****Update took my vehicle to another shop. It turns out the the noise my vehicle was making was the transmission. So browns automotive put parts on my vehicle that it did not need so now im out on 1800 dollars because of theses people...******I gave this auto shop my complete conference and trust in repairing my vehicle. I went in for them to fix a loud noise that's coming from the engine area and they claim that they fixed it, all they did was put in an alternator which I probably did not need and another motor valve for the gas system and they did not fix the problem I went in for, they charged me $1,800 for the repairs that took them less than 2 hours to do this place completely screwed me over I do not recommend this place to anybody. My vehicle is still making the loud noise that I went in for originally now I got to spend more money to take my vehicle to another mechanic that I should have taken to in the first place. My 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 needed a new transmission. I shopped around and wound up taking it to Brown's even though they were the most expensive alternative. I did this because I have had good luck with them in the past, they are usually very professional and they offered the best warranty on the work--3 years or 100k miles. It took a long time to get parts--more than a month--but eventually they got the work done and so far so good. But I am not a happy camper. First, the job was over $10k and they refused to take a check. Guess they didnt trust me, even though I have spent a lot of money there over the years. I had to put it all on a credit card, which of course pushed it to the limit. Then, when I asked for the promised warranty, all they gave me was a hand written line on the end of the invoice. Pretty unprofessional! To cap it off, I got the stink eye from the desk crew when I asked for more formal warranty documentation. I walked out of there thinking I had made a bad decision to use them and I will think twice before coming back. read more

Had my brakes serviced here. Back pads/rotos and front pads. They did it all in one day. Worked late to get it done. Extremely good service. They gave me a ride home, friendly, and called a couple weeks after to check up on the car. Brakes are working great. The price was a bit on the higher end but I think most people feel that way about auto repair. Total came out to be ~600. read more

I took my vehicle in on a recommendation. I had a few things for them to look at. They were thorough and I think know what they are doing, however they are not to be trusted. They found two problems with the rear suspension and recommended repair. The parts alone were over $600. After I got off the phone I started looking on-line and found they were marking the parts up between 500% and 700%, and that was over dealer prices. I thought there must be a mistake but checked several places. Old fashioned mechanic highway robbery. I understand the need for shops to charge $90 or $100 an hour for labor, employees and all the related expenses add up, and I could also see a little mark-up or parts, but this is just wrong. If they knowingly do this on parts what else will they do for profit? Stay away at all costs. read more

Best experience I have had in a very long time. The shop owners and employees were very polite and friendly. They even let me take my car in for the day and gave me a ride to work. I had a minor oil leak and had several different shops look at the leak and quote me outrageous prices. Brown's Automotive was very reasonable and did a great job. Dustin Brown = Honest Mechanic I don't know much about what goes on under the hood of my Subaru or my lady's Toyota, where the engine runs as if by magic, an animated brain fed by a variety of fluids, a bunch of metal gears connected by belts. So I have to trust someone to take care of my cars and not overcharge me. And I trust the Browns. I've had a variety of work done on both cars over the past year--mostly minor repairs and maintenance, but a few big jobs including a radiator replacement and strut replacement. Everything has been flawless except in one case where, when an issue persisted, the problem was fixed the next morning. Honestly, I trust a man more when he is willing to correct an honest mistake. I have also, on a few occasions, stopped by with a quick automotive question, and had it answered happily. In one case, Dustin topped me off with a little bit of fluid free to tackle what turned out to be a simple problem, and I'm sure he could have rooked me and recommended a costly repair. He reminds me, in his care for his craft, of the old mechanic named Ross whose shop was right down the street from where I grew up in New Jersey. My dad and I would often walk down there when he had to pick up his old black Chevy Nova (we called it the Batmobile; the floor beneath the floormat was rusted through, so that you could see the road passing by if you held the mat up), and I would listen to him talk while walking past the old rusted cars lying around his gas-station. Prices at Brown's are competitive; for instance their price for the radiator came in lower than the estimate I got from a national chain and not too much higher than an estimate from an unlicensed friend of a friend. But, more important than the price, getting service by the local guy with a proven track-record is so much better than having it done by some anonymous conglomerate or a potential ignoramus. Stop by Brown's on 4th Street if you have a problem with your car and need an honest mechanic. read more

So where to start.....I have a 2004 Honda Civic. Over the last 6 months I was chasing a lean fuel error on the car. I took it to the dealer first. They did not find it but they said that they thought that the timing belt was missing a tooth might have been the problem so the replaced that turned off the light and within 2 days it was on again. So I looked for another mechanic. Found one that was recommended mechanic and they made their attempt. Could not find it but saw that the plugs were bad and did a few other things turned off the light and yes it came back on. So one last attempt went to Browns Automotive. They did a complete check and found the issue. It was a bad fuel pump. They found a bunch of other things and recommended to eventually fix them but at the time they could wait. So finally got it fixed. Cost me a little over $1000. Kind of expensive but I was real happy with their service and thought to myself finally a good honest mechanic...boy was I wrong. Within 5 days of getting the car back the car started going through antifreeze and it was getting hot. So I thought well maybe they took it out and just did not fill it up. So I continued to fill it for a few days and then finally, while my son was on his way to prom, it overheated. Well back to my trusty mechanic. I figured they forgot to hook up something or it was something real simple. I get a call back from them, mind you I already spent a lot of money with them, and they tell me it was the head gasket and that the radiator was shot. I asked them while they had the car and did the 1000 point check did they not catch it? They told me "Oh sir we really don't look for those types of things unless you suspect it". Hmm, it was not overheating before they got it and now it is. Was it something they did or did I just win the lottery and it broke right after they fixed something. Not sure but I asked them so what now. They said they recommend a rebuild or replace the head gasket. So I asked them how much. Well they said head gasket alone parts and labor $2500. So I asked them how much for the rebuild.....ballpark. They told me they just had a 95 civic rebuilt for $6500!! Wow someone got rooked. So I did a little investigation and found an engine for $700, 45K miles, and asked how much to install. They said that it would cost more than the replacement of the head gasket. I asked them why. They told me because they make all their money on parts and they would have to increase the cost of labor to make money. Needless to say I found a mechanic that will replace it for less than $1000. So here is the kicker, I went to pick up my car and they charged me $55 after I spent all the money with them and it was worse off than it was when I brought it to them. AND one more kicker. So I asked the guy can I take it and is the radiator full. He told me they toped it off and asked if he wanted me to have him check it. I told him no because if it is topped off then I should be OK. However, I check it anyway. Good thing I brought antifreeze because it appeared to be very low and based on experience it would have overheated again. So the moral of the story..., if you want to get great service but get screwed on the price take it to Browns Automotive. Otherwise find you another mechanic. read more
