All cuts are individually portioned and vacuum sealed/flash frozen. You can purchase individual cuts, or buy in bulk for a big discount (their "quarter" beef is 80 lbs of meat - 40 lbs. of ground and 40 lbs of cuts). In addition to excellent beef, they grow no spray/low spray strawberries every Spring for U-pick or pre-pick, raise bees on site for honey, and often have some type of vegetables growing and available during Spring, Summer and Fall (right now they have tons of greens and turnips!) They mostly just sell on farm, and if you contact by phone or email it's super easy to work out a time to come by (usually most days but Sunday).

As this is a private farm and opened just three days a year to the public, tickets are required for their events. But you can still order products from their website if you were unable to make it to one of the open days. The farm is very welcoming and will make you feel at home and tell you all about the farm. When the lavender is in bloom, the farm is home to many pollinators. Then in December you can buy products made with the lavender grown. You can get culinary lavender; dried lavender; sachets; soaps; lotions; and so much more. If you are looking for a local product this is a good option.

They even have picnic blankets for you to borrow. I also enjoyed the Alpacas who visited the farm today. Beautiful lavender field but don't expect it like the one in Provence. The butcher and meat counter at the back of the store is great too, they are cutting meats fresh right behind the counter where they are all displayed for purchase. They have a great selection of beef, pork and chicken cuts along with a few others and some seafood items, they even have a LIVE lobster tank for you to pick out your own and they also have little bags of oysters and scallops in the shell. They also have general grocery items, some name brands, some generic, but they also keep alot of local made items like Goat Lady Dairy goat cheeses, tubs of Hursey's BBQ in the feezer, Neeses products and a host of others. They had some mini homemade pecan and chocolate pies in front of the checkout area, the little baby pies in the tini pie tins, I picked up a couple of pecan pies and they were really good, not sickening sweet like most pecan pies. Steve's is definitey a great plce to checkout...aisles are a bit narrow, so you're probably gonna be rubbin' elbows and giving and getting a few "excuse me's" if there's many people in the store like a busy Saturday.

I was excited but not surprised because they normally have really good deals and random sales. Well on this occasion I go to pay for them and the lady at the register say this is a really good deal. The lady behind her (older lady) say what and the lady who is assisting me said well I am not sure this is right. The older lady walk over and say not this isn't. She said the should be the price of the legs not wings. She then took all the wings out of my cart and said he can't have them. Called someone from the back gave them the wings and said "he trying to get them for the price of legs. This isn't right take them back." She never told me the price they should of been and never gave me an opportunity to pay the correct price. I asked for the right price and she yelled "2.99 but he should have known that wasn't the right price. ". Referring to me as if I put the price on the meat. I am now debating if I would return to this location. I felt embarrassed and if they felt I was trying to still t from them. I rushed out after paying for the rest of my items yet to return.

However, we were a little disappointed because even though the pick-your-own season had only opened 3 days before, the fields were pretty much picked clean of the ripe, juicy berries we had been imagining. In hindsight, we should have called ahead to ask about the selection. That said, it was a very peaceful farm with a few barefoot kids, braying goats, and rows and rows of standard and "experimental" strawberries. We still had fun and picked a decent amount of almost ripe berries (good enough for baking!) at $2.50/pound. And the few ripe berries we did get were yums. The honor system is nice, so make sure you bring cash!

In college, I took a Cosmo mag quiz that was supposed to measure one's relationship faithfulness…read more One of the questions asked if you came upon a field of luscious, red strawberries whether you would stop and eat any. If Cosmo is to be believed, today's gluttonous visit to Whitted Bowers (picture me with red juice dripped onto my shirt-front, scooping up berries into my mouth as much as into my bucket) is a clear indication that Phil should watch his back. Down a dirt road, there are about 50 rows of organic strawberries, labeled and divided into three sections. The first section (apparently "delicacies") was recently out-of-season, the second type was ripe for the picking, and the third was also available (supposedly best paired with chocolate, so I'm guessing they are tarter). The farm provides different sizes of baskets for picking, and you weigh the total, subtract the weight of the basket, and pour into your own container to take home. Out there among kids in wellies, barefoot grown-ups, and a couple of visitors' dogs roaming freely, we filled nearly a whole bucket. The cost is $3.00/lb for less than 20lbs, and $2.50/lb for more than 20. This seemed a little steep; with some hunting, we found berries in good condition, but the patches were a little picked over. Of course, the season is nearly over -- the farm expects to close the you-pick option on 5/18, stating that the season started and will end earlier than usual this year. I thought the coolest thing about this place is the honor system they do payment on. We weighed our berries, pulled out our cash, and plopped it in the box they had out on the table. These days, you don't see that kind of trust very often, and being out in their bucolic fields under blue skies ... well ... it was nice to spend a moment or two in a time gone by!
