I always had a good experience at this location but a few weeks ago that changed. I went in and they had about 12 packs of wings marked for around two dollars. I was excited but not surprised because they normally have really good deals and random sales. Well on this occasion I go to pay for them and the lady at the register say this is a really good deal. The lady behind her (older lady) say what and the lady who is assisting me said well I am not sure this is right. The older lady walk over and say not this isn't. She said the should be the price of the legs not wings. She then took all the wings out of my cart and said he can't have them. Called someone from the back gave them the wings and said "he trying to get them for the price of legs. This isn't right take them back." She never told me the price they should of been and never gave me an opportunity to pay the correct price. I asked for the right price and she yelled "2.99 but he should have known that wasn't the right price. ". Referring to me as if I put the price on the meat. I am now debating if I would return to this location. I felt embarrassed and if they felt I was trying to still t from them. I rushed out after paying for the rest of my items yet to return. read more

We went 5/25/25 and there was still 25 minutes til closing. We had a wheel chair that BARELY fit through the door that was open and an EMPLOYEE was standing there seeing us STRUGGLE to come in and did nothing, Young big male with hair in a pony tail. then we were told that meat was cut to order and we were hoping to have some done, well ALL were busy cleaning up in the back even though still bout 20 to 25 minutes til closing and LET's MAKE sure we turn our backs and IGNORE the potential customers. Then I said something up front and asked do they do it and the cashier said yes and still doing it now even though I told him what happened, he did say he would let them know but DID NOT asked if there was something I needed before he checked me out. I spent $92.53 on items already cut, I probably would have spent another $500 but now guess what I will NOT SPENT one cent going forward. Your employees evidently care bout GETTING home even though you are still open, TELL the guys in the back to TURN THEIR backs ALL DAY and then nothing will get dirty and they get the same pay. I always love going to Steve's not only for the great prices, also the variety of produce. The butchers are always great help and willing to service you in making your shopping experience better. The cashiers on the other hand can be a hit or miss. Overall I would recommend going to Steve's for fresh produce and checking out the restaurant next door! read more

This is a great little market, the main event here is the produce and the butcher/meat counter. They have a really nice selection of good looking fresh produce, everything is bright and kept neat. The butcher and meat counter at the back of the store is great too, they are cutting meats fresh right behind the counter where they are all displayed for purchase. They have a great selection of beef, pork and chicken cuts along with a few others and some seafood items, they even have a LIVE lobster tank for you to pick out your own and they also have little bags of oysters and scallops in the shell. They also have general grocery items, some name brands, some generic, but they also keep alot of local made items like Goat Lady Dairy goat cheeses, tubs of Hursey's BBQ in the feezer, Neeses products and a host of others. They had some mini homemade pecan and chocolate pies in front of the checkout area, the little baby pies in the tini pie tins, I picked up a couple of pecan pies and they were really good, not sickening sweet like most pecan pies. Steve's is definitey a great plce to checkout...aisles are a bit narrow, so you're probably gonna be rubbin' elbows and giving and getting a few "excuse me's" if there's many people in the store like a busy Saturday. read more

Great breakfast sandwich. The country suasage and egg and cheddar on sourdough was not only tasty but looked more like half poubd burger. The BBQ plates all looked plentiful and tasty. The tables were set apart and the employees were all covered. Well-stocked market, with local goodies and good vino selection. Good special prices and gotta say the local corn was fabulous on the grill last night. Friendly atmosphere too well save for one grumpy employee and helpful...we noticed a customer who wanted to enter without a mask and a shookeeoer gave them one to wear. Right on! The downside: If you shop there though you will notice the checkout is chaotic due to how they have organized the traffic flow...and cashiers are hard pressed to stay behind the plexiglass shield. It is a small store and i think they nees to limit customer entries or have a employee help customers keep physically distant. 5* for trying to be COVID prepped and 3* for outcome. read more

Second time I have gone there for lunch, but this time had to walk out. Indifferent staff and music so loud, my ears are ringing. This is maybe a party spot, but the amped up rock music was deafening and not good for a business lunch. Stay away. The market area is still top notch, but would it hurt for the staff to talk to customers? They refuse to great anyone and nobody offers help. Very dismal service. read more

I absolutely love this store! I wish that I would've started to come here sooner. It's such a great local business with fresh vegetables and fruit. There is such a huge variety of meat that is cut and available to buy. Coming here is so refreshing because it's fresh products from local farms. Shopping here is definitely therapeutic! You should also check out the other portion of the store that cooks fresh bbq! The only reason why I didnt give five stars is because the prices. Some of the stuff from here you can get cheaper elsewhere. However the majority of the items here (especially the meat) is cheaper and fresher than Walmart and foodlion. read more

I gave them a call to place an order - phone was answered promptly and pleasantly & they happily filled my order. When I went to pick up all the employees in meat department were friendly and service was fast. What a GREAT selection! I thought the prices were very fair. Steve's is da bomb. Everything you need in one stop. Great bbq, great meat department smallish grocer section and good produce. Prime ribeyes we're a big hit cooked over charcoal. I had a pretty good experience for the first time. I hate that wasn't paying attention to prices because I purchased an avocado for $3.78 and in comparison to let's say Wal-Mart; I could've gotten it for $.78. However, the butchers were very pleasant. One of the cashiers was monitoring the flow of traffic, and only allowed me come in once someone came out. Once allowed in, there might've been at least 10-15 (customers, stocker and cashier) inside. I bought hot sauce for a fairly good price.. and the store's appearance looked really neat/ well stocked/ and clean. I hate that I hadn't visited earlier... Went in for some prime ribeyes, they gave me the ones I picked out, and they were amazing! Quick service and great product!

A lot has changed in 9 years. This little market still carries some local produce and a small variety of fruit & veggie staples - but the big draw is now the butchery and the attached Smokehouse Restaurant. The Butchery: Thankfully, this part of Steve's has only expanded and gotten better. I can still get my beloved chicken as well as just about any cut of meat I may want. If something is not already packaged and out in the display cooler, I can ask and special order exactly what I need. They know what they are doing in this meat department - and everything is fresh, fresh, fresh! I needed suet for a stew recipe & they knew exactly what I asked for - and the price was like the old days. The Smokehouse Restaurant: I'm really not used to this being here yet. I was shopping at 10:30 am on a Wednesday, so the restaurant was not in action yet. However, surrounding the walk-up ordering counter were coolers of their wares. I purchased samples of their plain pimiento cheese (not the Steve's brand they've had for many years), pulled pork, and a slice of chocolate cake. Everyone has their own preference for pimiento cheese (I like it simple: diced pimientos, sharp cheddar cheese, American cheese, Duke's Mayo, a splash of AC vinegar, and ground black pepper to taste.). Something was a bit off for me with their pimiento cheese - when I looked at the ingredients I saw cream cheese had been used. Oh, well, some people like that combination. The pulled pork was very Smokey and missing the vinegar twang I like. But it was very good for what it was. Heck, this is NC and there will always be a BBQ debate among us - right? As for the cake? It was deliciously moist and very chocolatey. I'm going to give the restaurant a "take-out" try pretty soon and see how it goes. The staff are professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I can push my mini-cart around and pick out some items from local artisans, bakers, and even peanut crafters. There is a deli available in the restaurant section that seems to operate even when the restaurant is not. I didn't realize that upon seeing it. Then someone walked up and asked for a pound of sliced ham along with a club sandwich. Good to know! It's a small, local market with some high-end items, so it can be a little pricey if you're not careful. I forgot to look down at the floor as I headed to the check-out counter. The new way they have of lining up at the registers is still very confusing to me - but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Overall, because of the butchery and locally grown items, it's a place I still like to shop at a couple of times a month. read more

Steve's is awesome! It's always been a great neighborhood grocery store, but the new ownership and remodeling has brought this sleepy store into current times with still paying homage to the past! They have the freshest meat, seafood and produce you will find anywhere in the area. They also carry loads of local and gourmet items that you can't find around here- such as their specialty beef cuts. I love Steve's and get as much of my grocery list there as I can! read more

Normally Steve's would rate four or five stars but they are the lest pandemic ready store I've ever been in. After two visits in the past two weeks I've decided to give up on them until the virus is not an issue. No employees wear masks, and most customers not only don't wear masks but apparently don't have a clue what six feet looks like. Yesterday a lady (who was masked,probably for self defense) elbowed me aside at one of the meat coolers (none of which have sneeze guards). If you are in a high risk group, steer clear for now. I'll miss their BLTs but I won't die for one. read more

Everybody, including me, goes to Steve's for the produce. Sadly, most people don't realize that the meat market there is second to none. Chicken, pork, beef, organ meats, you can't beat this place for price or quality. You will not find a cleaner store in the county, and the service is fantastic. This review is for the Hillsborough location. Steve's has really good sandwiches. I've had a few and enjoyed all of them. The employees are also really nice. Here is their downfall ***Avoid eating any of the cakes in their display case unless it is a Friday or Saturday, when the cake slices are apparently brought in fresh. I have gotten a few very stale cake slices from them and one time even had a cupcake that had what appeared to be cream that had gone bad in the middle. When I called to see if I could get a couple of fresh slices to replace my stale ones, they told me they keep the cakes in their for up to ten (!!!!) days. Watch out for those cake slices. They do have a date on the bottom telling you when the cake is packed, but it's hard to check because there isn't much time between them being taken out of the display counter and rung up (maybe they do this to prevent you from checking the date)? Anyways check the date or don't buy the cake! read more

This wonderful old-fashioned style meat market. Love all the fresh produce neatly organized as you walk in. Fresh local eggs, pimento cheese, milk and loaves of bread. The meat cutters will happily cut you any cut of meat while you wait. High quality meats and great competitive prices. Well organized store, very clean, friendly staff. Find old-fashioned brands too. They have a large selection of bulk items (mayonnaise, beans, vinegar and more). LOVE this store! read more

The best people and the best products anywhere! I live in Michigan and make it a point to stop into Steve's every time I'm in town. They just do it the way it's supposed to be done. Had lunch today at the grand opening of Smokehouse at Steve's and give it 6 stars!!! Great atmosphere with excellent barbecue, brisket, collards, scalloped potatoes. The owner and his wife working hard to make sure they serve a quality product - with excellent staff and fantastic food. We have been needing a place like this around here and now we have it!!!! This will become one of our favorite go to lunch or dinner spots from now on! read more

Even though I gave the bagger a sturdy plastic bag for my purchases, he put the light stuff in the sturdy bag and bottles in his flimsy plastic bags. Yep, you guessed it. We got one foot from the check-out stand and a $10 jar of honey went crashing to the ground. He picked it up and threw it away but did not offer to replace it. Across the back of the store is a meat counter with a small army of friendly, skilled butchers like you're not going to find in the local Mega-Mart ready to offer their recommendations or custom cuts of meat. They have a good selection of local packaged meats and dairy and the pimento cheese has a hard core following. We buy it by the quart. read more
