I received back buffing treatment and I am in a lot of pain and there's extreme redness. I asked the aesthetician if the Shea butter was applied for hydration as advertised and she said yes but the whole treatment felt dry and nothing was applied to my skin. I've had body buffing on other areas serviced before by this beauty salon and the other aesthetician always use the body butter and I can feel it on my skin. The aesthetician for my back body used three different buffers with no Shea butter and now I am in a lot of pain. So I've now had 4 appointments with Amanda and I'm even happier with my decision to try Brows & Meows than I was in the beginning! In the collage I've added, you'll see the top picture of what my brows looked like while I was keeping up with them on my own, before trying Brows & Meows. The next two are recent: the middle picture is what they looked like the day before I got them done (4 weeks of growth) and the final picture being the day after getting them done. I don't tweeze my eyebrows at all anymore- lucky for me, they grow fast so Amanda was able to shape them to look SO much better just by the second visit. As of my most recent appointment, we switched to waxing instead of threading and it seemed to make my sensitive skin hive up less. This place provides excellent brow service, however, their cancellation/tardiness policy is very unfair. Yesterday I had an appointment at 4pm. I called them to reschedule for today and as a result they charged me a $35 cancellation fee. I will say that again $35!! When I saw this amount show up on my account this morning at my appointment I asked the front clerk if they charged me before a service, because that was the only logical reason that came to my mind. She explained their cancellation policy and that it did not make a difference that I called and rescheduled. This was upsetting because that is a large amount for a cancellation fee. I could understand a smaller fee, but $35 for no service. While I was there I asked if I would be able to cancel my appointment I had, but as a result they would still charge me an additional $35! I was actually planning prior to this incident to write a great review for them with before and after pictures, but everything happens for a reason. I think more people need to be aware of their policy which was never clearly pointed out to me. I support small businesses but I do not support this business and I can not believe how little they value their customers. Adding on to my review in response to the owner Leo.... Leo, I was charged $35, today 11Nov I was charged $32 for the actual service. So your charge for not showing to my appointment was more than the service I received, please check your books again. Additionally, you say that I was dishonest, when in reality I never realized that I had been charged in the past for late fee which is even more disappointing. I was very upset today when I realized how much I was being charged and honestly even more upset to know now that I've been charged so much in the past without realizing. I just happened to pull up my banking information while I was waiting to be seen. The response from the lady from behind the counter was to give me a brochure to show me the fine print I missed. I wish that when I called yesterday to reschedule the appointment that your employee over the phone could have made a comment like "just so you know you will be charged this amount of money for missing your appointment". As soon as I realized I missed the appointment, I called which was yes 4:18 (again I was never dishonest and said I called before my appointment if you actually read what I wrote). I can not believe you as the owner can make this situation even more unpleasant and tell me I'm banned from your store for making a honest review that was not to your liking. I have gone here 3 times so far, and each experience has been wonderful. I started off going to Sharon. She was super talented and made my eyebrows thick like I wanted, so I decided to stick with her. Well, a week or two before my next scheduled appointment with her, I got a text and call saying that Sharon was no longer with Brows and Meows, so I would need to make my next appointment with someone else. Originally, I was kind of freaked out because when you start getting comfortable with one person, it can be kind of tough to switch. I searched Yelp for other names of employees that stood out, but the ones I saw did not have any times that worked for me, so I decided to go with Caitlin. I was a bit nervous at first, but decided to go with the flow. I am so glad I did. Caitlin is wonderful, and I'm surprised I haven't seen more reviews mentioning her name. I half expected this place to be like any other shop: there's people you go to, and then there's people you don't. So far, the two I've experienced, I've enjoyed. There's talent here. I called to request an appointment last week and the young lady was very nice. I explained my previous concerns about not being able to build a rapport with a technician due to staff leaving. I asked to make an appointment with the owner or seasoned staff member. She said she could recommend Jenna but she was off til Monday. She said she would call me Monday. Today is Monday and I didn't hear anything. So I called. A different young lady answered. I explained the same thing above. She placed me on hold & a gentleman came back to the line. He advised me I was blocked from receiving services due to my treatment of his staff. I advised him I was extremely confused and had no idea what he was speaking of. I even asked if he was speaking to the correct person. He said yes. I asked him to elaborate. He said that was all he would say & wished me the best of luck. The location is a bit hard to park at if you're not familiar with downtown Norfolk. Let alone random cobblestone steets. But that's not why I gave this place three stars. It must have been because I scheduled my appointment for 1:00pm instead of 4 but when I got there for the first time, it was dead quiet and I didn't see or hear anyone. I thought I was in the wrong location! It was scary too because there isn't any appropriate signage saying "Welcome to Brows and Meows" or anything. No one greeted me. And another girl that showed up also was like "is this right?? It's quiet" so I'm not the only one who felt lost. Sadly the girl had to leave because she realized the place doesn't take walk ins. Anyway, I'm assuming it must be a rentable space for multiple types of businesses. Their "lobby" is like a room with two chairs and an end table of magazines with business cards saying something like "massage and spa center" which had the same location as Brows and Meows, but under a different name??? I was very confused about the location, and waited anyway. But, that's NOT why I gave it three stars. Gave it three stars because my appointment was at 1:00, and I scheduled for two different waxes: Brazilian and Underarm. Both of which will presumably take up to an hour to complete. I was being told that the technician may not have time for both depending upon how long one of the waxes takes. So I'm thinking, "oh they probably want to get this appointment finished within an hour time frame" NO. I got my Brazilian wax done within 30 minutes, superb job, love it, NO COMPLAINTS THERE. But when I asked if I could just switch the underarm to an UPPER LIP WAX to save more time, she told me she actually doesn't have time to do either. WAIT. WHAT? She did my Brazilian wax within 30 minutes and an upper lip wax will use too much time? How tight are these appointments scheduled exactly? I didn't complain because I decided it was going to be the last time I come here so I could avoid the possibility of this happening to me again. I made an appointment. I drove myself down here. Spent at least 10 minutes trying to park (and mind you, if you're 10 minutes late they'll charge you for it. Luckily I got there early). And I didn't even get the full appointment I needed. And it all felt rushed. Funny thing is, I was suggested another time slot for the upper lip wax at 3:30, TWO HOURS LATER. lol wut? Why?? Upper lip is at the most 10 minutes at least with skilled hands. I couldn't wrap my head around the logic of scheduling a new appointment for two hours later for a 10 minute session...but ok. They attempted to call me only the day before the appointment I guess in an attempt to talk about my extra wax, but because I work evenings, we were playing phone tag. Maybe try to call me when I made the initial appointment to discuss my waxing request? Rather than the day before? Hope this helps anyone who are thinking about coming to Brows and Meows. Just be aware of what you get in terms of scheduling and don't be surprised if being a first-time customer feels like second place. Love Amanda and her work but to avoid this issue happening again, I will not return. . . EDIT : A petty reply from one of the owners below in regards to their lack of appropriate signage within their own space is obvious proof of their lack of acknowledgement for how their space looks to ppl!!!! ME AND ANOTHER young lady BOTH still felt lost after following your "precise instruction." Maybe it isn't the instruction that's the problem, it's lack of a greeter or signs indicating where we are to wait and if we are in the right place. Also I PAID for the wax by 1:40, sir. I got dressed and we talked for a bit. But the wax itself was done by 1:30pm. I looked right at my phone when she told me she was all done and I could get dressed. So she still had time to do the upper lip wax I mentioned to her in the start of my appointment. The person I spoke on the phone with mentioned to me that an upper lip wax would take less time and could be squeezed in. And should have been doable but due to unknown reasons it somehow wasn't possible? Ok so I was somehow "booking it wrong" when your website says I can book multiple but your associates says it actually caters booking multiple waxes towards ppl who have been at your establishment more than once. It's NOT first-time client friendly like it claims to be. I tried to book multiple but it wouldn't let me. Even when I tried other time slots and other days. Second time coming here and I will definitely be coming back. I got an underarm wax by Caitlin both times and both times I have been completely satisfied. The shop is clean and the staff is friendly. Some reviews about their policy are funny, no reason to complain about that if you value your time and others. I have never been charged a late fee because I show up on time. I started with waxes, switched to sugaring because I heard it was better and less painful (lies) .. and then switched back to waxing when I realized "Brows & Meows was literally a 1 minute drive from my house. So needless to say I was a bit nervous because of the snatching lol. Anyways, I saw Jennah and she was AWESOMMMMEEE!!! Like ... AWESOME! She was so quick and even though I felt some pain... this was hands down the best hair removal I've had thus far. At first when she started, I thought maybe she wasn't removing all of the hair because of how much it didn't hurt but once she was done, she asked me to look at it and see if I liked it and all the hair was completely gone! Not to mention, the position they put you in to handle the backside was the most comfortable position I've been put in... comfortable and efficient. Recently moved to Norfolk, and I've been on the prowl for a new place to get waxed. Just had my first appointment with Amanda (brazilian and eyebrows) and I'm really happy with my experience. SCHEDULING: Super easy and convenient to schedule appointments online, and received text reminders as well, which was great! TIMELINESS: Amanda was ready to go as soon as I arrived. SERVICE: She listened to my request to keep my brow edges sharp and super trimmed down (surprisingly, I've had a really hard time finding someone who actually listens to this request, and I often end up with "mushy" edges that barely look different from when I came in, so this was a big positive for me). My brazilian was done quickly and (relatively) painlessly; she was very thorough and made sure there were no strays. I appreciated that she played upbeat music in the background the whole time, and was willing to talk, but did not force conversation. Have been going to Brows and Meows for a year before covid. Prior to covid really appreciate the level of service and professionalism! (Completely agree I should've written review during this time and would've given 4 stars) During covid they switched locations and I think added staff members. I had a difficult time locating the new location (they gave directions and address before the appointment) and ended up circling the block a few times before I could locate. At the time had temporary signage up. Either way, they mentioned there was ample parking and while there was, I personally wanted to find a spot I felt safe exiting/coming back to so it did take some time. All of these can definitely be considered excuses if you're still reading and I would agree though valid. I was 10 mins late. They have a 9 min cut off (heads up) and the person I booked for service decided to not see me because I was late. Pretty sure I saw other staff members there and no other clients around but the choice was made to not see me. I paid for the service without making a stink because as mentioned I was late but also when asked to reschedule, I made the decision to not return. After 3 years iv finally said never again....the past 5 times has been horrible I was told I would get a free service after one of my eyebrows was smaller than the other and I never got that free service....the policy's are absolutely ridiculous...they don't care if your two minutes over the time they will charge you and not see you..it only takes 5 minutes for a brow upkeep...perhaps they need to limit the amount of clients they see a day. That's why I am so happy with Brows & Meows. My first appointment with Jennah was a consultation so she can look at my brows, talk about my goals, and make recommendations. She cared so much about what was going to be best that she actually recommended waiting until next appointment when I had more growth to work with. She cleaned them up a little for me that day (no charge) but I really appreciated her being honest and recommending something that is going to be best for me in the long run rather than just waxing them so that she could charge.
