From the moment it began, it was clear that an enormous amount of talent and hard work went into every part of this production. The four performers carried the entire show with remarkable range. They moved seamlessly between singing and a variety of choreography styles, each number bringing something different to the stage. What stood out most was how much fun the performers were clearly having, and that energy was infectious. The audience was laughing throughout, fully engaged from start to finish. There wasn't a lull in the entire performance; every scene felt purposeful, and you could tell the cast had put in serious work to make it look effortless. This is the kind of show that reminds you why live theater is special. It's polished, it's funny, and it's performed by genuinely talented people who clearly love what they do. I've never been disappointed. It's a SMALL theater, intimate, maybe 15 rows deep, 12 seats wide, not a bad seat in the house. I have visited Tampa several times over the span of a few years. I've seen a few productions there (see my pics for this year's "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"). You can hear every word, see every movement, feel every breath. Go, if you can find tickets. The theater is accessible by trolley (FREE! thank you, Tampa), but you'll need to walk a few blocks and cross a few streets (not far, unless you are older than me). If you get there early, there's a watering hole and a spumoni place nearby for before and/or after the show refreshment. read more

Hard to find, It wasn't clearly marked, but once inside, I was pleased! The lobby bar was neatly stocked, the restrooms were clean and well appointed. The theatre itself is intimate. Cozy even. And as another poster pointed out, the way it's set up, if you need a potty break, just wait for the break.. otherwise you are pretty much up on the stage with the actors and invading their space. We truly enjoyed the show we saw - a WIT IMPROV production - which was a fundraiser for our friend Billy Edwards. The best part of the night was Scott & Billy getting down to their underwear and walking blindfolded through a minefield of mouse traps all for the laughs of those who watched. Truly a bunch of masochistic souls - who do anything for a laugh! read more

Nice, intimate theater with lots of comfort in terms of space and seats. And a talented team who can create wonderful performing arts experiences for everyone. The stage is directly in front of the audience so I can't imagine any seat would be lacking great sight lines. The seats are cushioned and the legroom within the rows is probably ample for most. This is a versatile venue located right in the heart of the Channel District. You enter the lobby of one of the residential towers, walk down the hall and turn left and you are there. There is a spacious area for everyone to gather prior to entering the theater and taking their seat of choice. There are beverages available for sale and helpful folks who can answer questions, share the run time of the play and just make you feel quite welcome. Tampa is fortunate to have the talents that Stageworks showcases and the passion that its productions represent. read more

Who knew that this tiny little gem was here in the Channelside area? I've gone a few times to enjoy the Got Jokes? Improv comedy troupe experience which ALWAYS has me busting a gut! I love the intimate setup of the theater in which you feel like you're both watching the talented and funny comedians, but they invite the audience to be apart of the show as well, which takes the fun up so many wonderful notches! It's almost like there's a veil when you're just the audience member and then with one small question or raised hand, he veil is lifted and you're apart of the show! I've even found myself on stage during a Got Jokes? show or 2! Haha! Each show is a unique experience and for the adventure and variety junkies, it feeds your need to be delighted by unexpected and hilarious surprises! I left the StageWorks theater with my cheeks hurting and endorphins high from such a fun night on the town. If you see Got Jokes? on the theater calendar, do yourself a favor and buy a ticket and prepare to be throughly entertained!! read more

Stageworks is a cozy Theatre tucked in the bottom of a mixed use high-rise building in Tampa. The theater puts on a number of productions utilizing Tampa based actors and personalities. What a great night I had here. I never knew this place was there but I'm glad I know about it now. It was a little hard to spot as mentioned in other reviews but I did eventually find it. Such a nice and intimate theater with a bar, which is always a plus and great ambiance. I recently found myself there to see the Got Jokes? Improv troupe. If you haven't seen them yet you are really missing out. They are whitty, clever, funny and quick on their feet. The skits are hilarious also. I laughed from the first 5 min to the last bow. There wasn't anything I didn't enjoy. I went there alone but never felt that way because the comedians went above and beyond to engage in the crowd by playing off things audience members suggested. I somehow found myself on stage and almost couldn't focus on my task because I was laughing so hard. The show could of lasted another hour or two, thats how much I enjoyed it. This was my 2nd time seeing them and It won't be my last. read more

Building & staff... I came here to see A Raisin in the Sun. The production was amazing, from costume to actors. The actual theatre is very cozy, and despite how small the space was, the set was nicely done. The bartender and ushers were very nice. One warning about the theatre is that there's no way you can get a potty break. I suppose you could, but it'd be extraordinarily awkward. Just wait till the break. The drinks & snacks... They serve wine, water, and soda. Of course, it's overpriced. There's also snacks to be had like crackers and such. Overall, I loved this theatre. It wasn't what I thought it would be, but it was pretty awesome. read more

Of Mice and Men: I am no proffesional critique on plays or the things involved in the production however I have always been fond of the craft in theater. I have seen a few different live plays before but I can say this one has been by far the most memorable. The stageworks theater is quaint and sets an intimate tone between the actors and the audience. In addition to the nearness of the cast, the acting alone was exceptional. The change of scenes was smooth almost undetectable. The props and effects were incredibly realistic and fitting. They also have wine, soda and snacks available before the show and during intermission. Students rates are offered as well as discounted parking passes with ticket. I will definitely be returning for more shows in the future and continue recommending the venue for something different to do locally. read more

This review is not so much about the theater as about the performance we saw at the theater called "Got Jokes?" The theater itself is small and cute. I found it was easy to find and first two hours of parking was free in the same building. Just follow the signs. The show was disappointing. The comedians were very immature and inexperienced, to say the least. Some acts were funny, while others didn't even make me smile. The sound system wasn't in place and at times you couldn't hear what was said. Disappointing experience. read more

I recently became aware of this little gem due to meeting one of the board members at a nonprofit expo and had to check it out for myself. It's a little hard to find (you go through the Grand Central Condos lobby and down the hall) but it's worth the 2 minutes of confusion. The space reminds me of the smaller and newer off Broadway theaters I would frequent while in New York and smaller productions in Boston. I went for a staged reading and didn't really know what to expect but was blown away by the talent and love for the arts. I definitely plan to visit this place more often and recommend parents with children to check out their youth programs! read more

Great venue...I came to see the Got Jokes Improv Show and the actual theater was more intimate than I expected. If you've never been to their shows, it is very interactive so this venue allowed for the crowd to participate without feeling like you had to scream to get your suggestions out. Again the show is improv and they allow for audience participation so you get from it what you put into it. Come with an open mind and be ready to laugh at the random, on the spot jokes the crew is able to come up with. Had a blast! read more

The venue made the show intimate and personal like a gathering of friends and family sharing jokes and stories. The new skits are hilarious; the Tinder App had me laughing until my face hurt! The venue is perfect for the kind of dynamic, engaged show that serves as the hallmark of Got Jokes? success. An intimate space nestled into Channelside, is off the main track of venues and cultural spaces in Downtown, but is definitely on the map of "must see", "must experience" places in Tampa. Fabulous evening! We went to see the Winter Wonderettes and couldn't believe the talent of the cast, I really think it's a must see show. The theater is small but comfortable, lovely bathrooms and roomy lobby with small bar, just a wonderful evening. We left feeling happy and Christmassy. Easy parking in the same building as the theater. We also had a lovely meal at Cena right by the theater. The best night out I've had in a while. read more

I love this venue! I saw a great comedy show this past weekend(2/4/17); The Got Jokes? Experience. Sometimes improvised comedy can be hit or miss, but these guys are always on the ball. The intimate space allows for a ton of audience participation and has made every show that I have seen hilarious. No two audiences are ever the same so each show is different from the last. This troupe of talented comedians will leave your cheeks sore and your sides in stitches. read more

Stageworks is Tampa's oldest professional theater company (30+ years). Their location at Grand Central at Kennedy near Channelside is approx 2 years old. They have a 99 seat theater with quality theatrical productions. There is a bar with light snacks and drinks for sale. Their is an ATM in the courtyard at Grand Central - and bars and restaurants in walking distance (Cena, City Dog Cantina, Pourhouse and Le Mouton Noir). The shows are wonderful in an intimate setting. You can buy a 6 "punch card" pass that you can use to pick seats for any combination of shows. Stageworks also puts on seminars and fundraisers throughout the year. They have a commitment to diversity and have a wide range of shows. There are discounted tickets for students and military. The tickets are cheaper than other local theater companies. I recommend you check out Stageworks! read more

I have been following the Got Jokes troupe for a while now and they have yet to disappoint. Part of the success of the show is dependent upon audience interaction. So if you find yourself uninterested, either join in or stick to watching stand-up comedy. The games are funny and sometimes turn a bit lewd (due to audience suggestions). If you're looking for a more kid-friendly atmosphere, I'd suggest an alcohol-free matinee pixel cartoon. The theater itself is quite cozy with easy parking. And the timing and quick response required in the improv genre is difficult to replicate. I'm typically quick on my feet. But I have a new respect for those that can do it with little to no preparation in front of a live audience. I won't be missing another show! read more
