A very good option for brunch in Pagosa Springs, and you don't have to wait in line (I think they just opened a month or two ago.)

Pagosa Springs has just lowered its bar even further in the world of dining. This small town has…read morealways struggled because of lack of staffing and a fluctuating tourist economy. So to add yet another breakfast/lunch cafe to an already mediocre group was quite the gamble. Unfortunately, it looks like it will add one more to it's long history of failed eating establishments. So let's look at the facts: We entered the restaurant and found three tables seated. No one eating. Not too bad there were two waitresses. Also not too bad. And yet we sat and waited for service. We waited to order and still no one was eating while we waited. Three more tables came in and were seated. We finally got drinks but no silverware and a couple of menus. Same breakfast fare: eggs, bacon, hash-browns, toast etc. Nothing that every other Cafe doesn't already offer. However, their prices were higher. I did hear from someone that the pancakes were pretty good. So I got a typical eggs, sausage, hash, brown pancake combo. My partner got a veggie omelette. We waited and waited and waited some more. Still, no one was eating. We were about ready to leave and call it a day when the waitress brought our food. But she had to go back for silverware and condiments, which she hastily placed in a pile on the edge of the table. And we had to ask for a refill on our beverage. My husband asked for Tabasco sauce and it was brought out almost empty. Both servers had to come back and ask for the Tabasco sauce, three times to take it to other tables. There was one bottle for the entire restaurant! The pancake that I had heard good things about was burned, greasy and crumbly. It was so bad I couldn't eat it. So slow service, poor quality food, and disappointing menu led to an overall awful experience. Finally, the ambience: same picture of John Wayne and other cheap western art on the walls, same table arrangement with a bar, taking up most of the space. Suffice it to say there is no ambience. Why do we continue to beat ourselves over the head paying ridiculous prices for subpar food and crappy service? The reason: we always hope for the best and we're too damn lazy to fix our own breakfast. I should have learned.

Higher Grounds Coffee - Excellent lunch at Higher Grounds--Vege Wrap! And a cold SKA IPA! Yum! Great refuel during a nice gravel ride.

I live in the area and wanted to support our local coffee shop, and have been for about 9 months…read more The service has always been appalling and while 4.70$ for a drip coffee is steep, we supported them because they were selling a local coffee company (also called Steep) and were willing to pay the premium to support a local family owned roaster. They informed me today that they will no longer be selling Steep because they raised their prices. They are now selling allegro as their drip, and when asked if using corporate coffee would lower the price of their drip, they said no. As far as I'm concerned this is disingenuous and a pretty bad hustle. Other complaints include no visible pricing and random price switching (due to the lack of transparency). We will not be back. Please consider supporting the Steep roasting company ten minutes up the road, you can get a fresh bag for 2/3 the price that higher grounds sells it for anyway.

No joke it was the best latte I've had in a LONG time and I've had some fantastic lattes! The line was decently long when I came but it was only about a 10 min wait, the staff moved fast. Plenty of parking out front and seating inside, and they have a sister boutique next door that opens a little later in the morning and has cute stuff too. Overall if I pass through Pagosa springs again anytime soon I'll be coming back here!
