Excellent coffee choices and loved the dirty chai! Pastries were divine and breakfast options delicious!

I live in the area and wanted to support our local coffee shop, and have been for about 9 months. The service has always been appalling and while 4.70$ for a drip coffee is steep, we supported them because they were selling a local coffee company (also called Steep) and were willing to pay the premium to support a local family owned roaster. They informed me today that they will no longer be selling Steep because they raised their prices. They are now selling allegro as their drip, and when asked if using corporate coffee would lower the price of their drip, they said no. As far as I'm concerned this is disingenuous and a pretty bad hustle. Other complaints include no visible pricing and random price switching (due to the lack of transparency). We will not be back. Please consider supporting the Steep roasting company ten minutes up the road, you can get a fresh bag for 2/3 the price that higher grounds sells it for anyway. read more

This is my fav coffee shop in Pagosa springs, it's def a vibe. My airbnb was really close so I came by the next morning and had a lavender pumpkin spice breve latte. No joke it was the best latte I've had in a LONG time and I've had some fantastic lattes! The line was decently long when I came but it was only about a 10 min wait, the staff moved fast. Plenty of parking out front and seating inside, and they have a sister boutique next door that opens a little later in the morning and has cute stuff too. Overall if I pass through Pagosa springs again anytime soon I'll be coming back here! read more

Stopped for some breakfast before heading to the spa and loved all the pastry options. They also had great drinks. The line was long but went by fast and there are plenty of places to sit and chill or sit outside and enjoy the weather. Great coffee shop! read more

Don't waste your lunch money!!!! Sandwiches on the menu however they don't have any mustard. Say the order taking baristas. The signature named HG sandwich had one thinly sliced piece of turkey, two pieces of small bacon, two slivers of avocado, a few tomato skins, and lots of greens. It tasted ok I suppose but for a $14 sandwich, I think not! The latte was pretty good if you're just grabbing coffee. The joint was pretty dirty too, bussing tables must be after hours. read more

This coffee shop has been pretty much the only coffee shop in Pagosa for years. So you would expect that the service would be great. Sadly, it's not. They still seem to run on Pagosa time. Slow!!! I ordered a drink online ahead of time. I came in and there was no one in line ordering. So I expected that my drink would be ready. I waited 15 minutes while the barista decided to fill in coming coffee orders for customers that came in after me. And this was the owner of the store making coffee. Why have an online ordering feature if it is slower than actually coming in to order? Guess it's back to the grocery store Starbucks. At least there if I have to wait I can do my grocery shopping. read more

Food is very bland and overpriced. Breakfast burrito (sausage) was dry, lacking in flavor. My $8 sticky bun managed to be stale and undercooked in the center simultaneously and the taste was, well, underwhelming is the only word that comes to mind. read more

As a local, we have limited options, so despite my last review, yes, I did go back. Sometimes service is great. Other times it is terrible. I waited 30 minutes for a sandwich on a weekday afternoon, while I watched the staff joke around and goof off. When I finally asked them about it, they said "oops receipt didn't print." I get mistakes happen, but when you have a customer patiently waiting that long and your staff has nothing to do, that should be a red flag for them. Will continue to avoid Higher Grounds when I can. read more

As a local I'm just fed up. The coffee isn't great the food is never right. The service is awful. I'm just disappointed everything is overpriced for what it is. We ordered some sandwiches made a couple of modifications and none of the mods actually happened but were noted in the receipt. The kitchen needs to take better notes because it's extremely disappointing to get the wrong order let alone have to send it back. When our food was ready our name was never called, we were not acknowledged and they packaged it To go when we were dine in so we couldn't visibly see it was ready we were waiting probably a good 20 mins after it was actually ready and when we finally asked they had to go looking for it... The bathrooms always smell like urine and feel unclean. It's upsetting how much this place has gone downhill. I attached the photo of our receipt where you can see the requested modifications that did not happen and resulted in us sending our food back. read more

The breakfast burrito is black beans and good veggies wrapped in a flour tortilla. I haven't tried their other items but they have lovely muffins and croissants, etc. Coffee is great! It is all self-serve, including busing your plates and flatware. The prices don't reflect the lack of person service either. The atmosphere is relaxing as they have sofas and chairs many folks gather around to hang out. A nice place to have coffee and a bite. read more

Love supporting a local coffee shop! In Uptown Pagosa Springs and with plenty of parking for easy in/out access. The coffee is good as are the breakfast and lunch food options. Service is quick and friendly. There is also ample space to eat/ enjoy your coffee if not needing grab and go. We usually stop here anytime we are in town. read more

The food is good, but the service and coffee is terrible.The cashier was wandering around behind the bar and looked lost while there was a line at the register. We stopped by today for lattes and pastries. 5 people behind the register and only one 3-top table had customers. The place was empty. No welcome; they were busy talking! We ordered 2 drinks; one was made and we waited and waited. We had to go ask for the 2nd; they forgot it! She recommended the poptarts; we bought 2. They were like a rock, dry, and tasteless. We ended up spending almost $30 for a snack! Poor service and left hungry since the food ended up in the garbage. I ordered online, so it would be ready 25 minutes later to pickup. Got there and they hadn't even started on it. And it was well over the "ready for pickup time". Got a meh sorry we have been busy with maybe 10 people inside the whole restaurant shrug from the girls working. So the coffee is decent but the service is so shitty. How do two lattes take 35 minutes when it was placed well in advance, I'd say skip this place if you want coffee fairly quickly. read more

I loved my hot vanilla hazelnut oatmilk coffee. The other didn't love their pumpkin spice‍ I had zucchini bread that was pretty good. The baked goods at this place don't get enough recognition. The coffee is good and fairly priced but honestly I had reservations about paying $10 for a savory croissant. After I tried one for the first time I was sold and now it's my payday treat for lunch. This coffee house's baked goods are on par with any bakery. Staff is always able to get orders out fast for coffee too read more

I've been coming here for the past two years (summer months) and am always pleased with the friendly service, very nice atmosphere and very good coffee. I usually only eat the everything bagel with vegi cream cheese which is great. Today I had the bagel egg sandwich with sausage and cheese. It too was very good. Even though this was the closet coffee shop to our rental, we only went once right before we left town. That was a mistake. We should have gone every day! The food selection was good and the coffee was delicious. (FYI if you get a latte, let the steamed milk cool down. Otherwise, you will miss all the flavors.) We tried the cinnamon roll, build your own breakfast sandwich (multiple cheese and meat combos), chai tea, and almond joy latte. All were delicious! Plus the swag for sale looked cute. Wow! The coffee itself was incredible. Usually I feel that boutique coffee can be hit or miss but higher grounds is a hit!! I got a vanilla iced latte (incredible) and a honey bear. The honey bear is SOO rich (in a great way). 10/10 we will be back tomorrow. Also, the breakfast burritos are incredible; so flavorful and made to order. Top 10 coffee shops I have been to! This place has really good coffee and some delicious breakfast options. We love walking here from our vacation condo to have breakfast and chill out. They play some awesome 80s and 90s country off of Sirius XM. They are a little short staffed so the wait might be a little long but other than that this place is great. This coffee shop is nice, I would go again for the food, but not for the views. You can't see the mountains from where the shop is. The interior is nice, very community vibe, but it could use some updating to the decor. I had the Veggin' Wrap and a Candy Cane latte, which came with latte art. Let me start by saying that the coffee was delicious here! White mocha was great, not too sweet; just perfect hot coffee beverage walking distance from the condo we stayed at. The chai latte again very delicious and perfect with the added shot of espresso. They do sell a variety of pastries and baked goods. Today I decided to go for the blueberry scone.. I got more like 1/2 a scone for $3.50; not worth it! Check them out next time you're in Pagosa but maybe see if you can get a bigger scone than the one I got today :/ read more
