Greensboro Toyota quoted me $2,700 for the timing belt and waterpump replacement and then also tacked on wheel bearings at $3,200 bringing my cost up to $5,900. Now I've worked on 4th 4Runners before and I've replaced my timing belt on my previous 4Runner, I know from experience it's not that expensive nor do you need wheel bearings for a 100k mile service. I chose to not replace this on my own this time because I hate working on my own vehicles. So I took my truck to J Medic and the cost alone for the timing belt and water pump kit was rought $1,400 give or take a few dollars and they looked over my wheel bearings and told me that they don't need replacing. They had the parts, and I told them they needed to be replaced because Toyota said so and they could have gone out of their way to replace the parts, and charge for service hours but didn't. I don't know of many mechanic shops that would say hey this is perfect based on information you present to them. Now I don't know about you, but any mechanic that is "Brutally Honest" with you is the mechanic I want to go to. Pat and the boys over at J Medic will take care of you in the most honest way. You want good serivce got to J Medic, if you want to be treated like family, and spend your honest dollar go to J Medic. Cope's Garage has been a High Point mainstay for many years...as long as I can remember actually…read moreand that goes back quite a few years. They have been in the same location on E. MLK Drive that whole time as well, formerly known as E. Kivett Drive. The Old Timers call it Cope's Garage but, the real name is Ronnie's Automotive. Ronnie is a great, happy guy that busts his butt to make sure your wheels stay on the road. Ronnie and his crew have done almost all my auto repairs and NC State inspections for well over a decade. Minor to major repairs including a simple ac relay replacement or something as major as an entire engine rebuild in a Ford Explorer or installation of a Japanese take-out motor in a Honda. They have also done exhaust/muffler work as well. No job too small and if Ronnie can't do it, he tell you. He'll also tell you where you can take it to get it done. I've always been pleased and sometimes frustrated at times with Cope's but, that in no way reflects the quality and honesty of the work performed. To understand where my frustration comes into play one will need to understand that this is a "good 'ol boys" garage and as such the pace at which things move there are what I call "Southern slow". Rest assured though, you will get a fair deal and won't be ripped off. That right there is gold in itself. If you are the type of person that is in a hurry, this garage might not be the place for you. However, if you are patient and understanding, you'll be rewarded with great repairs, done honestly and not over inflated...seriously, I do not think Ronnie charges enough sometimes. Jinx! I shouldn't even say that out loud! I've taken almost every car I have owned since the late '90's there. You should too.

About 2 months later I did notice a small spot in the garage, so I took my truck to D & M for an assessment. They did the repair for a fraction of what con-artist-Modern Toyota was going to charge. I got my truck back the same day...D & M will get all my business going forward for both my vehicles. I only have good things to say about these guys and highly recommend. As a side note: beware of car dealerships when going in for anything simple because the repair advisors are usually on commission. I once took my truck to Vann York for an oil change and they said that I needed to have my control arms and steering rack replaced for $2000+ which I declined. So I got two opinions from independent repair shops (of which D&M was one), and was told control arms and rack were fine. Avoid car dealerships for any repairs as they see unsuspecting people to prey on. That said, D & M saved me lots of money!!
