Lo and behold, Tammy, the manager, was super welcoming and friendly. She gave us some suggestions and convinced me to try it out as well. Have to say, I've take a few classes and I am hooked. Classes always start with warm ups and stretches, kickboxing at the bags and with partners, and then ends with stretches. I have mostly taken classes from Erik and Erika, father daughter duo. They give you a WORK OUT. My heart rate is always at least 150 and I'm dripping sweat every time I do it. The instructors also take the time to walk through the class and check up on everyone, ensuring the form is correct. There's a lot of great vibes going around and I've been given tips from more experienced students. This is the perfect gym environment for my wife who was initially intimidated. She's been going to classes by herself and I'm glad she's found her own motivation. I have IMPACT to thank for giving us that safe space to try and improve at our own comfortable pace. Although I haven't been back for a month due to health conditions, I am itching to put those gloves back on and box again! I highly suggest IMPACT for anyone looking for a chill, but intense (if that makes sense), gym environment with positive, motivating instructors that actually care about you.

I've been going to this boxing gym for about 5 months now and consider this my home boxing gym…read more I've been to other "fitbox" gyms that come nowhere close to the quality of instruction you get from the experienced trainers at B Street Boxing. The gym atmosphere is welcoming to all attendees and there is a strong sense of community among the regulars. As for the gym itself, there are lots of heavy bags spaced throughout the gym and two boxing rings against the far wall. This is a place where you will learn real boxing! Most of the gym goers here are men (there are separate kids' classes too) and as a woman, that has never bothered me. Everyone is respectful, helpful, and very kind. People practice good sportsmanship and aren't looking to "prove" anything. There are several instructors and I've enjoyed classes with every one I've tried so far (Eddie, Val, Ritesh). Each instructor has a different teaching style and area of expertise, so you can learn something from everyone. Boxing classes are mostly bag work, with occasional partner work. Every so often there is also no contact/light contact sparring in the ring. It may seem intimidating at first, but everyone here prioritizes safety, and it's nice to put the skills you've practiced to the test. Overall you get a great mix of different aspects of boxing to work on--punches, combos, defense, footwork, etc, all while building up stamina. Classes usually wrap up with core work or other exercises off the bag. You will work hard! Take water breaks if you need. The coaches here also do private training for competitive fighting, for those interested. For people looking to learn a new sport from instructors that have spent time in the ring, look no further. This is a safe and welcoming place to learn.

The other gyms had nicer facilities and had…read moremore people (although I've ben going during working hours so take this with a heavy grain of salt). But for me, this is the gym to go to in the Bay Area. Why? In coming to a boxing gym, I wasn't just looking for a workout. Yes, I want to get in shape. But you can do that in any number of ways. I also wanted to learn how to box. How to throw a cross, a jab, how to slip, how to measure distance. In other gyms I went to, it's basically a Barry's bootcamp with a heavy bag. You do an exercise routine that also has some punching. And it's great exercise! But at B Street, you not only get a hard, hard workout, but also a lot of coaching. In my first week (which was free), they started by showing me all the basic moves. Where to put my hands, how to move my feet. When I got some gear, they showed me how to wrap my hands. And during class, they not only take you through a high intensity workout routine, but also step in to make sure you're moving your body correctly, keeping your guard up. You'll get time in the ring with the coaches to do pad work and feel what it's actually like to have to move around an opponent and measure out your distance (this is *very* different from bag work!). You can even spar if you want, but I haven't got to this point yet and will probably hold off until I get into better shape. The coaches are all awesome, definitely know what they're talking about, and are incredibly nice. They meet you where you are and work from there. They're not afraid to push you to your limits, but never in a way that's mean or disrespectful. The community is also an awesome surprise. Everyone I've met there has been really nice and willing to take a second to help out a beginner with some basic tips. No egos or anything, just good people trying to help each other out. If you get in at the right time, you can also see B Street's Amateur team at work! No shortage of talent at this gym. Plus, they only charge $125/month. The bang for the buck is definitely there. Tl;dr - If you're looking for a boxing gym that will actually teach you something, this is the place to go.

That wasn't until he got a demand letter and then suddenly she could use it. We never attended a single class other than the trial. He actually went so far as to hire an attorney rather than just do the right thing and refund me my money since he lost nothing he lost nothing and somehow someway after getting multiple extensions from the courts, they cited with him, not even allowing me to present my evidence for my case when I'm the one who filed and paid for the small claims trial. Apparently, the magistrate thinks since the nonprofit handles the payments, I didn't lose out on $890 plus the $50 filing fee plus the money I spent to send him the demand letters He walked out of there like a little kid and a candy store how pathetic! I waited and told him wow you look so proud of yourself stealing from a young woman and her children when you lost nothing. Your own invoice states no refunds in the event the student stops attending classes before the six month timeframe elapses, funny thing is we never attended a single class other than the free trial! I never signed a contract. I never got any paperwork from him. I cannot believe what an utter scumbag this guy is, are you that hard up Gabriel must not be since you hired a lawyer instead of just being a decent human being and refunding me my money That's OK cause karma is a real biatch and you're gonna meet her real soon What goes around comes around and I don't like to wish bad on anyone, but this guy deserves everything he has coming to him Big tough guy MMA fighter with mush for a brain So disgusted, so disappointed in the entire system that people like him get away with robbing the most vulnerable Please don't bring your kids to this guy and trust him with them, do not give him a dime without making sure you have everything in order if you are going to bring your children to him People lick his butt because they think what he's like a rockstar or something? I should've walked out of there the first day when he completely ignored me and then for payment, he gave me a business card and had me take a screenshot of his pricing Never signed a paper never got a contract never attended a class but he thinks he's entitled to keep $890 of mine Absolutely pathetic, if I could give him zero stars, that's what he would be getting this guy is just the worst. I'm actually going to reach out to the new station and see if they want to do a story on him. I'm also going to be looking into other avenues, such as filing a complaint with the city and the Better Business Bureau and anybody else I can.

But after learning to pace myself a bit more and using more of my legs and hips, got the hang of it and enjoyed both the technical skills and aerobic workout. Boxing is both intuitive and counterintuitive to me. Shannon (great instructor) explained how clenching your fists or having tension in your arms counterintuitively leads to weaker punches. And that relaxing the arms up until the moment of impact is the most effective way to punch. It feels very unnatural, until it isn't. The legwork also feels counter-intuitve initially and then it starts to make sense (ex jab as your lead foot steps forward, cross off your back foot) Good mix of both men and women, beginners and intermediates. You'll get a sweaty intense workout (if you choose to go all in), and then off-ramped by some light core work and a cooldown stretch. Pro tip: come early if it's your first time. They recommend half an hour before class. They'll help you tape up your hands, pick the right sized gloves, and show you the basics.
