I'm kind of proud of my family heritage. My family worked for the Greenwich Elites. My Grandpa was a Gardener for the same family for many years. Thankfully they paid in to his Social Security. Pirates birds and…read morelights Great Captain's Island Lighthouse was built in 1868 and was actually one of six lighthouses of the same design around Long Island Sound built at the time. Made of huge blocks of brownstone, this lighthouse can survive anything the ocean and nature can throw at it. Great Captain's Island is frequently said to be named for the infamous Captain Kidd but it is far more likely the island is named after Captain Daniel Patrick, one of the founders of the town of Greenwich. The island is about 17 acres and a lovely place indeed. Noted for it's large population of birds, herons, ospreys, egrets and even some owls, the island is alive in the spring with nests and colors. The island was a very exclusive private club and casino but that all burned down in 1947. For many years it was open only to residents of the town of Greenwich but now anyone can go out there. A ferry runs during the summer months but since it is only about two miles off shore it can be kayaked to at any time. The lighthouse is no longer active but it is still a wonderful sight. No tours of the inside are available but just seeing the lighthouse is impressive indeed. Along with it's five other siblings, this lighthouse truly represents the golden age of lighthouse building.

I have always interacted with the Caretaker (Mike) while on the island. He and his team have been super helpful at all times. Mike's team are quite frankly an asset to the town as they are the very reason the island is kept in the condition that it is!! Perhaps the previous Yelper was upset as she isn't a town resident/didn't have a beach pass?

Horribly distracting. The WORST place to stand or sit near if you're in the back of the Orchestra (latter rows)! Two, if you sit along the left wall (Orchestra), there is an alcove of sorts closer to the front of the stage. There is a TV in there (WHY, I don't know!), that is left on during performances. If you're in seats along the wall, you 'will' be distracted from the glare of the television light (as I recently was back in Row N!). Lastly, lobby bar prices are INSANE: $38 for a single serving CAN of wine and a single serve bottle of Prosecco. We had just come from a very nice restaurant and paid well less than that for quality!

I fell in love with the historic Capital Theatre the minute I walked in. Just a spectacular old building. While the show we saw, I won't say who, wasn't the greatest concert in the world the sound production and sight lines made for a really pleasant concert experience. Oh, and I should mention that the parking was a piece of cake. The reason this venue only gets three stars is simple: the bartenders were massively over serving. This was by far the drunkest crowd of concert-goers I've ever been in. It was literally unsafe. The venue gets props for having gender neutral bathrooms...they just don't have enough of them. The lines were nuts and for this show there were booze-fueled fights happening while you were waiting to take a leak. All in all, not a great vibe.

How old is Greenwich, CT?…read more Here's how old- it celebrated its 350th anniversary in 1990. This plaque was dedicated in 1990 to honor Greenwich's sesquarcentennial (it's a real word, I just looked it up). It's located on a strip of grass to the right of the driveway at the Old Greenwich School. This is a very cool plaque describing the history of the town -from its Indian beginnings, Dutch settlement, and American colonial heritage under the Connecticut Colony and New Haven Colony.

This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! Captain John and Charlie were great and all the passengers aboard had a great time! We passed three lighthouses-Peck Ledge LH, Sheffield Island LH and Green's Ledge LH. Charlie, co-captain of Captain John, had just toured the inside of Green's Ledge LH the day before which is listed on Airbnb for $6,000! He went around the ship showing everyone the floor plan. It especially exciting to be on the Long Island Sound and to see the red and white towers from Northport, since I live on Long Island!! We were able to see several different viewpoints of the sunset and osprey nests as well. Definitely recommend to residents of Norwalk AND tourists alike!

What a treat! If you live in the area, you need to put this on your summer to-do list. I've lived…read morein the area for five years but didn't learn about this cruise until this summer. Be warned, book tickets online and in advance. They sold out for day/time we wanted to take the cruise, but there were 20 tickets still available the night before. Plan accordingly. We arrived for a 3:30 cruise on a beautiful August afternoon. The cruise seemed to be full, and there was a mix of couples and families on the boat. The boat ride is smooth and relaxing. The boat staff was offering a "guided" tour, but it was tough to hear, so I gave up trying and just enjoyed the experience of being out on the water. The boat ride is about 30 - 40 minutes each way. You won't get wet, at least we didn't, and there are enough seats/room for everyone. Once you arrive at the island, you have about 1.5 hours to explore. They have a guided lighthouse tour, a small concession stand, a small beach (not one that you would lay out at, so no need to bring a suit), volleyball courts, nature trails, etc. This entire experience is set up to be calm and relaxing. There isn't too much to do on the island, but that's kind of the point. You are only there for 1.5 hours, and there's no way you can get that bored in that period. Just unwind and take in the scenery for a few minutes, it will clear your mind. They offer limited food at the concession stand, but you can always bring your own snacks as well. Next time, I will bring a few snacks for us, especially since our trip was over dinner time. The bugs - BEWARE. They don't spray for mosquitos, and as a result, they are everywhere. I didn't know bugs would be a problem in advance, but the cruise provides spray upon arrival for free! I brought my own SPF, but they also provided that as well. The staff is lovely and do anything they can to make your experience as pleasant as possible. This is the perfect low-key day trip, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

It has a bench and gazebo for adults and gated for the occasional escape probed child. No dogs allowed in the park area, but there is a huge playing field adjacent to the park. Happy playing!!
