Absolutely LOVE this place but only receiving 4-stars for the following reasons: First, If you sit back near the SRO (bar area), ALL you hear is people talking and the clinking of glass. Horribly distracting. The WORST place to stand or sit near if you're in the back of the Orchestra (latter rows)! Two, if you sit along the left wall (Orchestra), there is an alcove of sorts closer to the front of the stage. There is a TV in there (WHY, I don't know!), that is left on during performances. If you're in seats along the wall, you 'will' be distracted from the glare of the television light (as I recently was back in Row N!). Lastly, lobby bar prices are INSANE: $38 for a single serving CAN of wine and a single serve bottle of Prosecco. We had just come from a very nice restaurant and paid well less than that for quality! read more

I am an avid concert goer. Going to see live music is my hobby of choice. From massive arena shows to tiny venues that hold less than 100 people, I love it all. I fell in love with the historic Capital Theatre the minute I walked in. Just a spectacular old building. While the show we saw, I won't say who, wasn't the greatest concert in the world the sound production and sight lines made for a really pleasant concert experience. Oh, and I should mention that the parking was a piece of cake. The reason this venue only gets three stars is simple: the bartenders were massively over serving. This was by far the drunkest crowd of concert-goers I've ever been in. It was literally unsafe. The venue gets props for having gender neutral bathrooms...they just don't have enough of them. The lines were nuts and for this show there were booze-fueled fights happening while you were waiting to take a leak. All in all, not a great vibe. read more

What an awesome venue to see concerts. It was my first time here last week and I can't believe I had never been before. This theater has been around for ages and is very well known. It is also located like a 2 min walk from the Metronorth train which is awesome. This venue has a coat check available which is awesome especially for a show that is held in winter. Yes it cost money to do coatcheck but it is worth it. The seating in the venue is also comfortable, great leg room and there are seats in the balcony area but downstairs is standing room only. Sound system sounded great and the lights were good too. Every person that works here who I talked to/ asked a question to was very helpful and nice. Also, retrieving my coat and such after the show was very well organized and they have it together here. One last thing I noticed are that the bathrooms are actually on the nice side for a music venue. As I said before there are two floors to this venue and so there is also a nice size bar area, some couch seating and rest rooms on the balcolny level too. So, the downstairs bar area doesn't get too overwhelmed. I will be back again to see other shows. read more

Came for a comedy show. The experience was pretty seamless. Quick ticket checkin and security. There is a large bar near the entrance with lots of space to socialize. The theater itself has a big stage. The seats are basic but comfortable. We were able to hear everything pretty clearly and had a good view from the right orchestra. I would be careful about center back orchestra because there's a sound/tech space right in the middle which might be distracting. read more

Capitol Theatre (not Capital) perhaps has seen better days. The musty old theatre turned concert venue can get cramped at times. They certainly know how to pack people in, seriously. Capitol has landmark status (built in 1926) in the old port town of, you guessed it - Port Chester NY. As other Yelpers and friend(s) have hilariously mentioned here, better have that hip replacement and/or knee surgery in place, put on your Mom jeans, and prep that Dad body as you get your groove on. Yes, the Grateful Dead performed here the most in 1970. Also, Janice Joplin, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Phil Collins, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, amongst others. Recently Bonnie Raitt, who we love, performed here in 2025, but we decided to see her at Tanglewood instead. Another nostalgic venue but outdoors in the Berkshires. Baby Boomers rejoice. This antique music venue is ancient but not nearly as old as the hard rock fossils that showed up for the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience show last Sunday. Ear drums were imploding almost as fast as replacement hips were creaking and collapsing under the thunder of Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love. The sound was decent but the folding chairs in the orchestra were placed tighter than Ticketmaster's grip of sales and pricing. That's right guys, cram as many mom jeans into the venue as humanly possible. It's hard to believe that a half century has passed since this music was new. Then again, by the look of the the blue haired groupies in front of me, fifty years doesn't seem quite long enough. Five stars for Zeppelin. read more

My first time last night to Capitol Theatre to see David Lee Roth last night that almost didn't happen! I was having trouble pulling up my 3 e-tickets on my phone but thanks to KJ aka Superwoman, she saved the day not only trying to retrieve my tickets on my phone but calming me down in the process all the while dealing with two feuding concert attendees, then resolving the situation and escorting me & the two members of my party to our seats and even turning down a tip for being our savior!! The show hadn't even started when I made the assessment that capitol was one of the finest theaters I had been to in New York. And I wasn't even in the 5 boroughs. I had flown up special to see a 90s band reunion tour. After my long journey from Manhattan by train, I was pleased to arrive to a fitting venue for the bands show. After getting through security, which was pretty quick, I walked about the area. It was a beautiful space. You could see detail work in the walls, in the ceiling(including a beautiful chandelier) that gave it a historical energgy that a new venue wouldnt be able to. I took my seat a couple rows back in the upstairs. The band started I heard a beautiful sound. The acoustics were perfectly fine up in my seat. I did notice that there was plenty of room in the standing room only below so I eventually ended up down there. It was great sound there. I had planned to leave a little early to gab my train back, but edned up staying for the while show. And I'm glad i did. Maybe one day I'll have a good excuse to take the train up to the Capitol again. read more

Love the Theatre and the shows, but they really need to do something about securing the umbrellas on a rainy day, maybe have a location to check them in, since we can't bring them inside. We had ours stolen and we had to walk back to our car after the show in the rain, was not very happy about that. I could have been mean and taking someone else's umbrella, but I didn't. It has a rich heritage. It's a landmark. Parking is easy and cheap. Drinks are pricey. Ticket prices are fair. No leg room. Seats are adequately comfortable otherwise. People talk continuously through the show. Very rude. LA is much better. You feel like you're entering a prison as they pat you down. Very stuffy and warm. There are a lot better venues. read more

This Port Chester NY venue was a hop skip and a jump from the Metro North line which was so convenient! There were no lines and no hassles getting into the venue and staff seemed very enthusiastic and energetic. The whole vibe seemed relaxed. Great! The seating was more spacious than other venues we have been to recently, with stable and sturdier chairs with drink holders! Hallelujah!!! The arm, leg distances were roomier than the last venues we attended. We did not feel cramped or claustrophobic. We had 2nd row dead center on the floor and the view was amazing. The sound and lighting were fantastic!!! We enjoyed every minute of the show oblivious to any craziness that may have been going on, so it seems staff and security are keeping things in check!!! Kudos to them. Outside of the main stage area there is a bar area ( Garcia's) and a small stage which seems like an intimate space to see a local performer. I would not hesitate to return to this venue again to see a show, but I would steer clear of the "after party" at Garcia's following a main stage performance (the staff hold up signs as you are exiting to reel you in). Complete money grab. Otherwise loved the experience and will look to return (however, not to the Garcia's "after party"). read more

Awesome venue. 3 bars including one in Garcia's. Garcia's is a nice bar with a stage for bands. There's not bands that play there when there's a band playing at the Capitol. It's really crowded in there with ppl hanging out and drinking before the band starts at the Capitol. There's a lot of known older Rock bands that play , and Garcia's has some cool Grateful Dead cover bands every week. read more

Just home from the Bonnie Raitt show. She was excellent and Jimmy Vaughn and his band were terrific. What was not great was the ICE style raids on people who took out their phones to snap a photo or film. The enforcers were more distracting than the phones. A better/kinder announcement would have been better than the crazy buzzing around of event staff bouncers. read more

I am at a dilemma writing this review. This was a charity auction that I won at current retail value. I had a choice of the entertainment and chose Daryl Hall and Todd Rundgren. Big fans of Daryl Hall because of seening him with Train in Oakland about five years ago. Stellar performance with my gal pals. Top five concerts in my life. Big fan of Todd for 50 years. Todd Rundgren surprisingly was the hit of the concert. He has let me down in the past but we are talking 45 years ago at a little hole in the wall place called George's in San Rafael and for some reason he wanted to play on his techno computer and not sing. I listened to his new song dream goes on forever in 1975 from a New Mexico station that weirdly play in Colorado only during a certain time in the evening. Unfortunately he did not play the song. Since I'm not a techie I don't quite know why the sound was off. Daryl Hall had to move from his guitar to a keyboard because of tech issues and claimed to be rusty at key boards. He moved to the farthest corner on the stage that we could not see him physically. Was disappointed with the owners for not placing us closer for this charity donation. There were 4 boxed seats & we were placed in the last box. Watched the owner in front of us who invited other people from the main floor to boxes in front of us which was annoying since they did not pay because his young son invited them from lower floor seating to boxed seating. My guests were happy with the concert which made me happy but I flew 3000 miles cross country for this concert. I don't know if Hall was just having too good of a time because he was not very tight in his talent for the show. He was rambling and somewhat disorganized. Todd Rundgren really was the highlight of this event. He has maintained his vocals and sounded terrific. Tiny bit disappointed that he did not play, "a dream goes on forever" for that long ago 15-year-old girl. I loved a collaboration of Rundgren's, "Can we still might be friends" with Hall originated at Darryl's House. A really terrific new interpretation of a terrific old song. They did sing it but they cut it short and kind of abruptly. read more

We came out on a Friday night to check out the " Almost Queen" show. What a fantastic night. The music was amazing, the theatre is beautiful, and the opening band, Philadelphia Freedom (Elton John Tribute) was an unexpected but delightful surprise. The hubs and I had a great night...thank you The Capitol. We haven't been out to a show since COVID so this was so much fun. We loved it. They checked to see that everyone was vaccinated which was good but I was a little uncomfortable with being packed as we were. Honestly, I was a little surprised. I was expecting empty seats in order to allow people to spread out a bit. read more

The Cap is one of my all time favorite concert venues. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly inside. As well as being strict when needed to be. The ground floor has multiple bars and generally carries pizza and popcorn and other food/snack items for show nights. There are ample amounts of restrooms from floor to floor. I personally prefer the upstairs loge because it has seating and can be less crowded. read more

I still go to this place all the time-probably about 10 times/yr and I always have a great experience. The sound quality is amazing and they have a nice selection of drinks available as well. Some shows the general admission is seated and others is standing so make sure you know when you buy your tickets. Sometimes parking is tricky but if you arrive early you can generally find street parking and if not there are some paid lots around the corner of the venue. Make sure to get some great Peruvian food around the corner as well. read more

I thought for the size of the space, everything was really well run. I liked that there were options for food and drink, and appreciated the inclusion of a coat check. There were some issues with crowd flow post show, but it wasn't more than other similar venues and I thought it was handled really well. The best part about the theater (for me) is that the floor is raked, so there's better visibility from standing room only even if there are lots of very tall people in the crowd. Also love how close it is to the train, it's very convenient to come here from NYC for a show! read more

We recently went to a concert at the capitol theatre and had a really good night! Getting in was really quick and easy. The venue itself was small but really pretty. It's capacity is about 1800 people I think it said so it was definitely a different concert experience. I've been to some smaller venues and was pleasantly surprised that my feet didn't stick to the floor the whole night. The drink pricing was also more reasonable than other venues I've been to. They had some food choices such as popcorn and waffles!? I had already eaten so I didn't get any food. I got a modelo to drink and it was really bad. Usually I like it a lot and this was really sour/bitter tasting. Also something I think is important is that I guess it has some sort of AC in it but it wasn't very cold inside. It was mid 90s outside so I wasn't sure if I should wear shorts/pants if the ac was cranked or not. I went with shorts and was so glad I did because I was quite warm inside. Also, not sure if this was artist preference or theater but they were pretty strict about not recording the show on your phones. read more

This is a nice and small theater. I saw Die Antwoord and Bo Burnham (live taping) here. Both were incredible shows! I just wish they had more good options because it's in such a convenient location! Get to the show early for good parking and grab some grub before walking over. read more

Very cool theater that brings you back in time. There is also a very cool bar attached to it with some cool memorabilia on the walls.

We have been roofied (drugged) there twice--two different occasions and I won't go back. Thought to let it go--but same happened to friends recently. Beware--one of the bartenders (female) has an issue. Wrote a letter to the theater and got no response. It was so bad we couldn't drive or remember our address after one glass of wine. They know this is happening and they won't do anything about it. read more

Bought tickets to see Rick Springfield, "VIP" seats A112 and A113. We assumed that we'd be front and nearly center. What a joke. We are seated behind the control panel 2/3 of the way to the back of the theater in the VIP section. What a joke. Couldn't be more disappointed. read more
