Not the place to go to for brunch, although perhaps it's fun for bowling or the theater. It's certainly a really cool historic space. The main crowd seems to be hippies, both young and old. Sadly, everything else left much to be desired. Our server was overwhelmed and frazzled. The dishes had residue on them and there was hair/debris in our food and drink. The latte my date got was awful (she said everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong) and the food was underwhelming. There are so many better brunch spots around. read more

We came out for the Holidating improv musical. This was such a a cool event! I didn't know they had a theatre area! We were able to get full service while watching the show. Out server was very quick and timed everything well to the show. The food and drinks were tasty too. We had the wild rice salad, adult slushy, grande nachos, and garlic bloody. All were pretty tasty, butt we filled up real quick on the nachos. The theatre tables were a little small, so I try and order accordingly. read more

This is such a cute place! We came in for their date night special. It's quite smaller than expected but super cute. Staff was really nice but it took us a while to get set up with bowling once we were done with our food. Note that the date night is two entrees but you don't get to pick your entree, it was a preset entree so we could have either a chicken quesadilla or veggie quesadilla. We also got the rosemary potatoes. We chose a bottle of red for our drink and then did a game of bowling. The bowling is pretty much self service which was interesting. You just grab shoes and a ball and they give you a paper scoring sheet so you track your own score. Very old school and very fun! read more

We opted for green beer (miller lite). The bartender was super cool & friendly. The dining area is a bit tight. They are always busy whenever I go. A classic and famous gem of Uptown Mpls. First time coming here after years of saying I've always wanted to experience this place. It's definitely a cool scene to walk into with a bar restaurant and old school bowling alley. I just came here to see what was on the drink menu for St. Patrick's day. There were a few items I decided to try the green Miller lite beer to be festive. The beer was pleasing to look at with the bubbly green. So much fun!! My husband and I came on a little date night since we were in the mood to bowl and have been to Bryant Lake so many times to watch my nephew perform in the theater but never to actually bowl! There aren't a ton of lanes and it was surprisingly busy on weeknight so we hung out and had a few drinks as we waited. All of the staff from the bartender to the host to the sweet woman helping us on the lane - everyone was so so sweet and made us feel so welcomed! This alley really takes you back, none of those annoying graphics on the big screen when you get a gutter, just classic to the point bowling. New level of "bowling alley food"! Exquisite food! My Roasted Vegetable Salad was a WIN: nicely roasted veggies garnished with wild rice, delish nuts, dried craisins, and assorted goodies! My favorite was the roasted parsnips-Yummy! Equally good (but unexpected) was their Bi Bim Bap Bowl: great meat, veggies, & Kimchi. This place is very interesting (not in the Minnesota since). Chameleon vibes, it all depends on what time of day you go in on what you're going to get. But I would have to say it is the heartbeat of the Lyn-Lake area. Usually pretty good food, service staff are all completely different on vibes and quality of service. I think that's one of the things that makes this place legendary. The owner is amazing and she must treat the staff well as alot of them have been there for a very long time. Think dive bar where you would find the dude bowling with an alt theater.. where could you go wrong? read more

This is my third time eating at BLB and I have been pleased with the food each time. For the price, the serving sizes and the quality are good. They have a decent amount of vegetarian options and several beverage options for those who partake in alcohol as well as those who don't. The service here is friendly but I think just like most everywhere else, they may be a bit understaffed. The vibe is retro and eclectic, and I love the old-timey bowling alley. It is neat to feel like I am stepping back in time! If you want to go bowling and eat, be sure to put your lane reservation in first if it is busy. Then you can eat as you wait. The wait times have been shorter than the estimate given to us at check-in, so don't be discouraged if it seems like a long time, it usually goes faster than expected! read more

Fun diner within walking distance of our hotel. Definitely not your standard bowling alley and diner. The pad Thai was surprisingly good. My husband thought his flat bread was not as good as what we had at Mill Valley Kitchen, but it was fine. The Cuban sandwich was good (get extra napkins). when we walked in it was great, got in around 10:30 on valentine's day. got in line for bowling it was easy and chill. food came out and it was great, a little long to come out - along with the drinks that came out 20 minutes after we ordered. we also had two servers i guess? not really sure - one of them was not offering us much service, but the person who ran the bowling helped us out a lot. the vibe of the building is super retro and relaxing. had a great time bowling until it was time to go. i guess the server was quite stressed having to check out multiple people at once, understandable, but i felt was not being very nice with the checkout and making sly comments behind our backs and under his breath. that made the end of the experience a little bit uncomfortable. i also think the restaurant could benefit from having a card reader that accepts swiping. it was hard having to use my card when checkout time came around. overall a good experience had, made sense and was easy going. food and drink quality was very good, ate promptly and enjoyed thoroughly. the 3 stars is because they would benefit from some better service, i wish my night could have ended a little bit less sassy. ‍ read more

Had a workplace get together here and it was a lot of fun! It was trivia night and pretty crowded, I don't know if it's always that busy, but we were able to grab a table and get dinner, along with bowling later that evening. What a super fun place! This venue has good food, entertaining shows and bowling! My friends and I enjoyed a super fun girls' night out here the other night. We started with AMAZING dinners in the bar...the Bi Bim Bap was the most popular choice, followed by the Pad Thai and then the Pork Carnita Sandwich. I enjoyed and LOVED the Bi Bim Bap. It was phenomenal! Then on to the show. We watched The Nordly Live Comedy show and we laughed and laughed and laughed! Since it is 2022, and still times of COVID-19, Proof of vaccination with matching ID was checked both dinner and the show for safety. Wonderful service for both dinner and the show. If you're looking for a vintage & fun feel, Bryant Lake Bowl is the perfect place to participate in a classic activity for people of all ages. I called beforehand to make a group reservation, and was directed to e-mail Erica to set up the RSVP. We had 12 people and reserved 2 lanes. The group rate was $25 per lane for an hour (it's per hour here, not per game) which includes the bowling shoe rental as well. Once we arrived, the hostess pointed out our 2 lanes at the end and the shoes were self-serve along the wall. The sizes were a little confusing, as many of the shoes had 2 numbers, but it was somewhat organized, so we figured it out. When I say vintage, I mean VINTAGE. We manually entered our own scores with a pencil and paper - yes, no screens up above, so don't come here expecting that. One of the people in our group luckily volunteered to keep score the entire time, but that person definitely bowled less compared to the rest of us. It did make it hard at times to keep track of who we were on, but it wasn't complicated, and we worked with it. We had a great server who came by and asked us periodically if we needed more drinks/food (we didn't get any food here though). The drinks and shots were what you'd expect. It was a relatively quick check out at the end of our allotted time frame with one group tab. Bryant Lake Bowl was what you'd call charming, but again, don't expect polished. This place is no frills and could use a paint job, but there's something about it that takes you back which is appreciated in this day and age. Street parking was pretty limited, but I'd suggest parking down a few blocks or in the nearby neighborhoods. read more

The bowling is a little unconventional (score yourself on paper, pick and clean your own shoes, play as many games as you want and pay at the end) but in a very cool, laid back kind of way. Decent beer and drink selection as well. My favorite is their bowl bim bap - brown basmati rice, kimchi, sunny side up egg, kale, mushroom, carrot, radish, gochu sauce, and your choice of meat. Super fresh and filling! I've tried them for brunch too, but I was a little disappointed. I got the BBQ Bowler - biscuit topped with pulled pork and cheddar scramble served with a side salad. The whole thing was just a bit dry - it needs a gravy/sauce or I should have asked for runny or poached eggs. It also needed some hot sauce because it was a bit bland too. This place is a mess. Used to be awesome. I had a mouse run by my feet at the bar. The bartender told me they are all over the place. Staff acts like it's a major problem to wait on you or bring you an order unless you're one of their friends hanging out. Food has gotten worse over the years but the price keeps going up. Food has no flavor. Most of the bowling lanes don't work right. Sadly a historic Minneapolis spot is turning in to a dump. read more

I used to live in uptown and frequented BLB quite often, after moving to St. Paul it was nice to go back and support a past-time favorite. My go-to was always the biscuits and gravy and this time was no different. However, something just wasn't the same - it lacked flavor, the mushrooms seemed undercooked and, my "side of bacon" was just thrown on top of my meal. I also got a Bloody Mary which was OK at best. The service, which is usually nothing to write home about was consistent with past experiences, average. I have to give a little grace to restaurants and the service industry in general right now but I still hope that the wait staff they do have can step up their game a little. read more

I've been to Bryant Lake Bowl a few times and overall I like it but I don't go out of my way to go there. I think the concept is awesome but execution lacks a little for me. They've got a lot of variety on their menus which is cool but flavor falls flat. Of course they're also famous for having a bowling alley and a theater! I've yet to bowl because the times I've tried the wait is 45+ minutes. I would recommend putting your name down before you sit down to eat. I haven't been to the theater yet but hear they do cool shows, I plan to go one day! On Wednesdays they do a Stout special with aged stouts! I've never seen this anywhere else. As I mentioned, I like BLB and will continue to go here. I just think if I didn't live so close by I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more
