This place is quickly becoming my favourite bar. Always a warm welcome from the owner and staff. Called in last night to find out it was their 7th birthday. Congratulations! The party was in full swing and the place was hopping. Glad to be able to support a business that is so key to the community. Looking forward to coming back.

    Menu for food

Charming and neighborhoody setting *could be improved with some music, excellent strong drinks, decent if not v creative food. One thing to note is that the menu on the website shows very old prices, and the current price list is around 30% higher.

Food is great and the service and hospitality are even better! Great place for Guinness with Friends! Easy parking

This is a neat pub near MIA. I enjoyed the decorations. There's a decent amount of seating. We were early, before 5pm in a Saturday, but they were ready for us. I had the chicken pot pie with salad greens and my daughter had Margareta flat bread it was all great.

Time for an update. The Prodigal has definitely earned that fifth star. I've been here several times now since they've opened and each time I come I enjoy it even more. On one of my visits we received permission to bring in some donuts from Glam Doll Donuts around the corner to enjoy with our beers, yes you heard correct, beer and donuts are awesome together. I feel like they should add this to their menu, it would be a nice combo item like the "Hound and Bear". So let's talk about the "Hound and Bear". The Hound and Bear is a Hamms beer and a shot of Irish whiskey from Tullamore Dew distillery which is awesome together. Another thing that has grown on me is the delicious popcorn they have, perfectly popped, salted and buttered. I would say what earned that fifth star this visit was when the owner came around to all the tables and offered up some of their tasty fried cheese curds. Sure it's a community bowl of curds, but I've already given myself over to the community popcorn so why not enjoy the festivities. It's a really nice personal touch when the owner comes around to greet everyone, which I've experienced more then once here at the prodigal. Until next time Prodigal Public house.

OMG!? I literally had the BEST fish and chips I've ever had in this country. No lie! I almost want to come tomorrow to eat this again. I've had fish and chips in many parts of the US and this somehow beats them all! Flavor is there, tasted SOfresh, perfectly fried, delicious tartar sauce, yummy fries and tasty coleslaw. The vibe was also laid back and cozy, the seating dining area makes you feel like you're at someone's home-- my friend and I had a long convo while having our meals, we felt at home! Our waiter was also attentive, sweet and helpful. Highly recommend giving this place a try. It's literally a hidden gem! I always drove by it and I finally tried it... I regret not coming sooner!

    Awesome bartenders!

Since I found this pub in my neighborhood I've not wanted to be anywhere else when having a drink. Friendly service every time I stop in and the crowd is casual and always having a great time. Its a place you'll share conversations with everyone around you and even the owner will have a seat and join in. As far as their food menu goes I've only had the sweet potatoes fries which were spot on great flavor and a generous portion. The menu looks delicious and people I've asked have had nothing but good reviews on the menu choices so eager to start working my way through it. So stop in at the bar top if you're looking for great service, friendly conversation and good times!

Great back story to this place. This was my second visit. Traditional Irish pub feel, the decor makes it look like it's been there for decades, but it hasn't. Happy bartenders. They serve food, too. I didn't have any on this late night trip

Best bar food in Minneapolis hands down. It's only gotten better since opening so I had to update my review. It's family-owned and the service is warm and responsive, like you're at a family member's house. (One you like. One who brings you homemade snacks and beer.) It's a place you don't want to recommend too loudly because everyone will come and make it hard for you to get a seat. I recommend the ham toastie, the buffalo chicken flatbread pizza, the soups if you're lucky enough to stop by when they're on the menu, and the fried spicy cauliflower and fried green beans if you want a GIANT appetizer that's amazing and homemade. They also just added a meat and cheese board that should not be missed. But honestly everything is good.

The bartender/owner suggested we try a rare Welsh spirit that they encountered when visiting the distillery themselves.

We went this last week with a large group before a show and had another great experience. We didn't make any sort of reservation and they were able to seat us right away. The interior has that classic vintage pub feel with lots of character and natural light. There are tons of booths and different seating areas that could accommodate parties of all sizes. I especially liked the glass dividers between some of the booths, which give you a little extra privacy without making the space feel closed off. My booth also had coat hooks and easy access to outlets, which I appreciated. I could definitely see myself coming here for a working lunch. My server was incredibly friendly and helpful, especially as I was trying to figure out how to use a couple of rewards I had on my account. I specifically came in wanting to try the fish and chips. Their lunch menu offers smaller portions of several dishes from the dinner menu, including a fish and chips option for around $15. I really wanted to try the walleye, though, so I ended up ordering the full dinner portion for around $28. The fish was absolutely the star of the plate. The breading was fantastic--crunchy around the edges while still light and fluffy--and the fish inside practically melted in my mouth. The tartar sauce was also really good and paired perfectly with it. The sides, unfortunately, didn't impress me nearly as much. There were plenty of fries, but they were pretty average, and the coleslaw was mostly cabbage with a light dressing. It felt like it was missing some acidity or lime to give it a little more personality. For almost $30, I also expected the meal to be a bit more substantial. I left satisfied, but found myself hungry again a couple of hours later, so I'm not sure the dinner portion felt worth the price for me. If you're mainly curious about their fish and chips, I'd probably recommend trying the smaller lunch portion first rather than committing to the more expensive dinner version. Would I come back? Absolutely--the atmosphere, service, and location alone make The Local worth another visit, and I noticed several other dishes on the menu I'd be interested in trying. I just don't know that I'd order this particular meal again. The fish itself was excellent, but for me, the sides and overall value didn't quite match it.

On awkward waiting wondering if this is one of those places where you can just seat yourself. The place is clean and the ambiance has some very nice touches to bring intrigue. The subtle candle-like light fixture was corky and added to the charm. Prices are very reasonable! I had a good idea what I wanted prior to stopping in. Food came out quickly. Less than 10 mins. Lupia was hot and delicious. My first time having one so wilk not compare it to an egg roll. The braised beef rib was tender and juicy. I pulled out the knife but only a fork is necessary. I do wish the meat was a tad saltier but just a personal preference there. Service was pleasant, attentive, and quick. The gentleman who greeted me also thanked me on my way out. It was rather pleasant experience overall and am planning on coming back to try more of the menu!

It's a restaurant, perhaps reflecting its neighborhood, where people have an occasional beer, but George and the Dragon isn't a drinking hole. That changes the ambiance. The patrons looked well-off, but in that way in which they try hard not to look like they have money. Most of them wore clothes that made them look as if they had just come off the tennis court, or their bike, or after running a five-mile for a great cause. My wife and I still try to look nice when we go out. We don't dress down. Most of the people at George & the Dragon were in their fifties or sixties, including the servers, who were very earnest, if you know what I mean. I'm in my seventies, grew up in NYC, and still try to look hip, and I drink vodka quite often. Maybe that's why I felt uncomfortable. That decade and a half makes a huge difference in how we grew up, and what I experienced in the sixties and seventies. The food was okay, not great. The burger and chicken schnitzel tasted fair to middling. The room was also very loud, filled with exclamations from the tables of "women who lunch," feeling more comfortable with no men at their tables. That's also a demographic and Minneapolis thing. I doubt I'll return to George and The Dragon. I like bars.
