My experience with Windfree Solar Company has been awful. Consider carefully reading the contract,…read morenoting if subcontractors would do the solar panel installation, if so, will Windfree cover losses, if applicable. In addition, make sure all the permit is pulled with your municipal, along with the correct schematics for the solar panels, both were an issue here. After speaking with Adam Perri, Director of Windfree Solar, I was told, due to the workers were subcontractors, the destruction of my personal outdoor equipment and garage was not Windfree problem. All the woes, leaves me with the savings from the schematics of 77% savings, panned out to 18%. Monitoring for the solar panels based on the information I was given was a country outside the U.S., with no option to opt out of 3rd party advertisement. No thank you! Value=NONE!

This company are bailed out from a 1-star review by the fact that they subcontract the installation…read moreto a pretty decent electrical contractor. Windfree Solar as a company are pretty sub par. These guys installed my solar panel system, Pretty decent size system. Living in Chicago there are certain permit requirements so you are limited as to who you can actually go with. People have asked me for a recommendation and I cannot in good conscience give these guys a nod. Their organization is atrocious. The only competent member of staff that I have dealt with is the sales person Renner. I had a project manager by the name of Mark Anderson, who was either woefully, incompetent or just didn't give a crap. And he was either fired or quit before the end of my project, which threw it into limbo. There were errors on the submittals for the permit, They were errors with the details of my system. Come time for inspection. Even organizing the initial measurements and details was not without some drama. So here we are almost 8 months after my system has been energized, come to find out that due to another error on my paperwork, the energy credits Which I am due to be paid well take an additional six months. The only reason I found this out is that somebody decided to email me to let me know that I needed to re-sign my paperwork, but then when I asked questions as to why I received no response. And that seems to be the theme of this company. I get that they are essentially a facilitator of the installation and supposedly able to take care of the paperwork required for this kind of project, but they took a pretty decent commission for those services. I know this because the actual Supplier of the solar panels has to write to me to tell me how much the solar panels actually cost. I don't begrudge them making money on that service, I would've appreciated that they actually did the service correctly for which they were paid. Doesn't seem unreasonable. That being said, I would recommend their installers for whom I will write a separate review but these guys... I would give a hard hard pass. You can do the paperwork yourself, and save yourself about $8000 and dealing with amateurs apparently.

I will update the review if I proceed with working with him.***** My wife and I are in the process of selecting a company to install solar for us at our home in McHenry. We have received approximately 8 quotes from different companies (including Magitek). Paul seems to be exceptionally knowledgeable about solar installations, building codes, and solar potential. For example, Paul was the ONLY rep I spoke with who informed me that there is a requirement to leave 3' of space between the solar panels and any roof edge or ridge. Obviously, this has a HUGE impact on the number, sizing, spacing, location of solar panels on our roof. Paul also mentioned that depending on the roof system (truss vs rafters), there may be a need to involve a structural engineer. This isn't a huge fee (extra $500 which is cheap insurance IMO compared to having the roof collapse), but it speaks more to the knowledge that Paul brings. Paul was also exceptionally patient and answered all of my questions (all 45 minutes worth). Based on my experience, I highly encourage anyone looking for solar panels in the area to at least speak with Paul and get a quote from him.

Antiquated and Unprofessional…read more I caution against using Magitek Energy for solar installation. This company has not kept up with the pace of change in technology and appears stuck in the 1990's. Paul the owner was scheduled to conduct an on-site assessment for solar at my house, but cancelled the day of the appointment because of an outdated Google Earth picture he found of my roof from the 1990's. My house was shaded by trees at the time and had a number of attic fans scattered across the roof. He said this would disqualify my house for solar. I explained that the trees were removed years ago and my roof was completely rebuilt last year with no more attic fans. For some reason Paul did not believe that I had this work performed (no clue why I would lie about this). Paul refused to honor the on-site appointment and instead deferred to his blurry Google Earth photo from 20+ years ago to complete his "site assessment." As other reviewers have stated, Paul is not an advocate for customers. His overall inexperience and lack of professionalism are immediate disqualifiers when there are so many other reputable and proven solar companies in the area.

I decided to go with Kapital Electric as my EV charger contractor of choice through word of mouth…read moreand was not disappointed I originally called to inquire about a rebate program associated with ev charger installations in specific Chicagoland areas and they made the application process really seamless. The staff is very responsive - theyll call, email, and even text you to work out anything and communicate as needed They give you the option to virtually provide photos of your setup for the initial proposal of an installation without requiring them to send someone to inspect things, which saves time for both parties. Once received, they'll verify the feasibility of the installation and draw up an official proposal for your review. I had a couple prerequisites to handle prior but once ready, they are quick to get back to you with all of the official documents From there, theyll send the engineers/electricians down to do the installation. Vasili handled my job and did amazing work. Super friendly and knowledgeable, great conversation, finished in 2 hours. He walked me through the game plan, insisted that I prioritized what location fit my preference over what would be easier to do, and executed it independently in a timely fashion. Overall very satisfied with the service from Kapital Electric :)
