I recently moved to the area and was looking for a gynecologist. I found Dr. Bu through my insurance and was really glad I went to see her. She was so kind, patient, honest, and hollistic in her approach. I felt like I was seeing FAMILY! Seeing a gynecologist is such a private (and for most people) an uncomfortable experience... The receptionist is super friendly and nice and so is dr. Bu. However there were some red flags for me so I will not be going back. 1. She was almost 30 min late to my first apt which no biggie she apologized but I know that can irritate people and I took time off work for the apt. However I didn't speak up or tell them so that's my fault. 2. The dr spent a lot of time with me and asked a bunch of questions but lectured me about stds for like 10 min. Now I appreciate her vigilance but she was really goin in on HIV and I just told her I didn't have any type of relationships AT ALL in 2020. So then the hiv lecture seemed irrelevant. But this seemed a little over kill even though I get she is supposed to educate. So ok. 3. I asked her to refill my anti depressants, not pain killers or adderall or Xanax. I needed a refill on my Zoloft and she responded with "I'm not a pill dr".... I'm sorry what?? Like I'm not selling these, abusing them, no one even wants these and it's totally in her scope of work because I have had other obgs prescribe them. Which was a bummer because I had to try and find a GP after this to try and not run out! Like what kind of dr are you then?? 4. I had to come in so she could tell me my blood work was fine because my insurance didn't cover telehealth. Which ok I get you want to bill for an apt but come on just tell me everything is good and don't bill for an additional apt. I can already see my results on the quest website so I know everything is good. Plus she won't prescribe me anything to help my blood work right??? 5. They only take cash or check. 6. She was 30 min late to my second appointment to go over the blood work. So I left. Really nice people but just think there are better options out there for obgy. read more

I am a nervous person with ANY Dr. office visit or procedure (medical or dental). I usually put off seeing any Dr. - only if I HAVE to go - then I will. I called Dr. Bu's office to make sure she is in network with my insurance (which she was - phew). The office gal was so friendly and even had an appointment the next day. So reluctantly I took it (being nervous I really didn't want to go anywhere (LOL). When I arrived, I was immediately welcomed by the front gal. Filled out forms and was taken to an exam room, blood pressure taken and she explained everything to me and how it's works for my exam. (Appreciate it - since I'm a nervous Nelly) I then waited for about 10-15 min and then Dr. Bu comes in. Wow!! Let me tell you ... it's like I'm talking to a family member. She made me feel sooo comfortable.. she asked personal questions but explained that she needs this information to help her understand my background and more of a complete "picture" than just .. "what are you here for?" "What's going on?"- it was none of that. Dr. Bu really cares about you as a whole. She addressed all my concerns and also explained the different - important (necessary) procedures/tests that I should be completing. She is NOT judgmental, sarcastic and never talks down to you. She is a true caring Dr. - go and see her if you're looking for someone that will treat you like you are a part of her family - "personal care"! read more

I have been going to Dr. Bu for a few years now. She is the best doctor I have ever dealt with...and I have had several. I have also referred several people to her - nothing but rave reviews. Dr. Bu never rushes, answers all questions, and from my experiences also does not infer personal judgement whatsoever. She will take whatever time necessary to make you feel as if you are her only patient of the day. She is friendly and doesnt have to glance at a chart to recognize you and your needs as if you have never met (its amazing how many doctors do this). Hi have been seeing Dr. Bu for a couple of years. From the first time I met her I thought she was amazing. She was kind, considerate, really listened to you when she asked questions. She made me feel like I was her only patient of the day. I thought maybe I got this special treatment because it was my first consultation. She has been that way every visit and more. I adore this lady and feel blessed to have her as my Dr. I wish I had found her years ago. You can tell she really cares about people. Like a female Dr. Oz. I would not recommend Dr. Bu. She is competent, and seems to know her stuff, but her bedside manner is quite harsh. Also, she really pushed the swine flu vaccine, even though I told her I didn't want it, and only gave me a short-term BC Rx, which kind of felt like retaliation for not getting the flu shot. Doctor Bu is a terrible doctor that doesn't actually want to help her patients, all she wants is to make her Mercedes Benz car payments! I was given a does of antibiotics and the symptoms returned. Instead of testing me she shrugged her shoulders and is now passing me on to another Doctor. She won't try to figure my case out at all. I made her refund me my co pay of $40 and told her thanks for passing me on but I will find someone who will help me. She tried to talk and convince me that's not what she was doing and I wouldn't let her. I asked her to leave my room so I could leave. I will never go back to her again. I thought doctors cared about their patients health! $300 an hour to not help patients! Some of us aren't made of money like she obviously is, and have health problems that need treating! read more

Dr. Dahlia Bu likes her patients. She trained at fine institutions, takes her time with patients. And provides great advice: 1- ALWAYS protect yourself - you can't tell who is ill by how they look. 2 - There are a treatable stds, and manageable stds. The manageable stds are with you for life. So don't get an std, instead.... 3 - ALWAYS protect yourself. Living in SF, I've heard these from all health care providers. It wasn't new information, but it was great that I was hearing it from a provider. Made me think she was current, gave great info. and cared. She asked if I wanted a birth control prescription, and wrote out a prescription for my preferred bc on the spot. No hesitation. No drama. A few weeks later, I need Plan B. (I haven't yet filled my b.c. prescription.) You don't need a prescription to pick up plan b at the pharmacy. However, I wanted my insurance to cover it , so I called to ask for a prescription. Dr. Bu doesn't write prescriptions for EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION, aka PLAN B. ME: Why not? Office: She doesn't support abortion. Me: What does that have to do with Plan B? Office: Well, you know, it... Me: It? Office: She just doesn't support it. Me: Plan B is an emergency contraception pill. It is a high level dosage of birth control you take within 72 hours to prevent egg fertilization. It works exactly like the birth control SHE PRESCRIBED THREE WEEKS AGO! Office: apologetic laugh Me: It is an outrage medical doctors are uninformed and not giving their patients accurate medical information. I liked Dr. Bu, but I am no longer her patient and refuse to support a doctor who doesn't fulfill her hippocratic oath. In what other medical arena can you refuse to write a needed prescription? This is b.s. (Yes, I really did say all this. The women that work here are really nice, and seemed very helpful upon my first visit. Needless to say, I was shocked to have this conversation, and shocked the staff would give out false facts about Plan B.) Facts: Plan B doesn't affect an established pregnancy. There are very rare cases, less than 2%, of a fertilized egg being booted from the uterine lining (which is how all pregnancies initially start.) Plan B should be taken asap to prevent egg fertilization. Once fertilized, the egg will likely plant itself into the uterine wall. Plan B is not great a preventing implantation. So take it ASAP. The abortion pill is prescribed by doctors. It's sole purpose is to cause an abortion. The pill cannot be bought at a pharmacy over the counter. It is impossible to mistake Plan B, a birth CONTROL pill, with the abortion pill. Regardless of her medical inaccuracy in believing Plan B is an abortive drug, who goes into gynecology not supporting a woman's full right of choices? And who with holds needed medical advice and prescriptions? I encourage patients to discuss this with Dr. Bu. And I encourage all women to be cared for by people that rely on facts, not agendas. I hope Dr. Bu will become better informed, and will respect her responsibility to her patients' legal rights. read more

I have been on a mad hunt for a diaphragm. I spent most of my twenties on BC pills, the patch, and the ring. Fed up with side effects, I went the Paragaurd. For 3 years I allowed the copper IUD to put me into body shaking misery during my period which was extended from 3 days prior to the IUD to 10 days. Craps were so intense Vicodin could not alleviate the discomfort. So I have become pretty dead set on a barrier method. I went to my PCP to get fitted for a diaphragm to discover she does not do that. She tried to push pills on me, and advised of the ineffectiveness of diaphragms. She also told me b/c of my age (32), she felt like a diaphragm was too risky. I began making the phone calls and to discover 14 out of the 15 doctors on the list of covered GYN from my insurance either were not accepting Hill physicians (Thanks for being on my insurance provider lists!) or straight just stated that they do not prescribe diaphragms. Dr. Bu was literally the single doctor that said she would. I met her for the first time today. I have never met a more thorough, casual-yet-professional, non-judgmental, kind physician. She went over my health history in depth, and took well over an hour just answering my questions, and giving me information. Then, not only did she show my how to put it in, she actually had me try and put it in myself. I was blown away with how comprehensive she was. She clearly desires to educate and empower women. I am an avid feminist and sit comfortably on the far left side of the political spectrum. I would like to respond to the previous yelp review. Dr. Bui discussed her healthcare philosophy and explained to me that while she does not pass judgment on individual choices, and is glad that there are choices available to women, she prioritizes aligning her actions with her beliefs. She explained to me that since Plan B is available to women w/out a prescription, there is no conflict for her. Women are welcome to obtain it themselves from a pharmacy. As for abortive services, though I am loudly pro-choice, I can certainly also respect that she does not desire to play a role in abortive services. And while I personally don't believe plan B is abortive, she does not confidently feel the same way. Because of that she feels that it is more aligned with her values to have women obtain it themselves over the counter. She does not discourage women from using Plan B, nor decline information as to where women can obtain it from. She simply prefers not to have her hands to be involved. I absolutely can respect that we all have different values. As long as someone's values do not restrict or harm me, than I don't understand why it is a problem. Plan B is easily accessible. I felt compelled to defend her because I have found my quest for a birth control method that fit me to be very disempowering. My PCP discouraged me from getting my IUD taken out, even after describing immense pain. Then when I decided I couldn't take it anymore, I struggled to find a physician willing to take it out. Even Med 7 refused. They told me to go to an emergency room. Then it was nearly impossible to locate a physician to prescribe a diaphragm! My point?, I felt empowered by Dr. Bu today. She is the first Dr. I have seen that really was interested in helping me find what would work for me, rather than pushing on me what everyone else gets. For that I am incredibly grateful. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking contraceptive/ gynecological care (outside of abortive services). Furthermore, her bedside manner is outstanding. Oddly, I think I may have mildly enjoyed my GYN experience today! read more

Dr. Bu doesn't care about her patents she only cares about money. I'm writing this review for a friend and she has been treated horribly. She cuts her off and she has made her cry multiple times. She was diagnosed with pre-anemia and months later she requested to do a follow up. She arrived at the appointment only to pay $40.00 co-pay and say her new insurance doesn't pay for that. Her receptionist has been with her 24 years and is very nice and professional as well. I recommend Dr Bu to new patients because she looks closely at my individual needs and takes time to review my history and discusses all options with me. Dr. Bu may seem competent, but I can assure you she is not. She was 2 months or so off on my due date and because of her mistake, She kept my baby in for 3 days. She put me through screening after screening and couldn't figure out why I was in pain. She was talking about doing exploratory surgery. Either she realized she was way off on the due date and couldn't miss her mistake, or she was breaking the water of a 7 months pregnant woman to avoid surgery. She never admitted her wrong doing. She just told me not to have more kids. My child was born with cerebral palsy, I believe due to Dr. Dahlia Bu's actions. When she broke my water, she took off. My husband was the only one in the room when our son's head was crowning. My husband was freaking out and ran for a nurse who yold me not to push. My baby had jaundice and has brain damage due to Dr. Bu If you love your baby, find a better doctor. Dr. Bu is incompetent to say the least. She is rude and insulting to a middle class working mom who had the best insurance plan she had ever seen. Even doctor's wives dump her. Don't use Dr. BU!!! Too bad her daughter shares her name. I feel sorry for her and hope she is more competent than her mother. This Dahlia Bu is a nightmare. My poor son is mentally retarded in language because of her! Ugh! read more

I've been going to Dr. Bu ever sense I found out I was pregnant with my first child 21yrs ago. I 110% love her. She is a rare find in the sea of all these so called dr.'s. Dr. Bu has always been filled with kind words and always wanted to know how my family is on every visit. I was there the other day and the first words out of her mouth where "you look amazing". She has seen me through a marriage,divorce, 2 kids, a relationship and my new amazing life with my new husband. Her and Karine have alway been the sweetest,warm,amazing,shoulder to cry on and the one source I knew I could get the straight answers. Dr. Bu is always looking out for her patiences.
