I booked a 60min traditional Thai massage. The whole journey starts with filling out a sheet to customize your preferred massage, which you can specify the pressure, whether you'd like the therapist to step on your back, if you'd like lotion, and areas to focus or avoid. When you're in the room, the therapist checks in with you to make sure you're comfy with the temperature and the sheets. The massage was very strong (I selected the strong option). I specifically asked to focus on my shoulders and upper back as I have not been feeling well for quite some time. You could feel that different techniques were being used on yourself. When it comes to knots, they are all taken care of using different methods and from different angles. It was definitely not just being symmetric in terms of the techniques from the left to right. This is way overdue. I went to Bua Thai when it first opened years ago, under different owners. i think it's changed hands a couple of times since then. So this review is for the current services. I am full of gratitude for Bua Thai and Tammy especially for helping me so much. Over the years I've become quite the connoisseur of Thai massage. And I find Tammy very skilled and consistent. She has definitely helped me more than many rounds of PT. Swedish massage and oil does nothing for me. My tight muscles and fascia (and several repetitive-use injuries) mean I'm here for the real deal -- Traditional Thai. And Tammy brings it. Prefer more gentle? I'm sure she can provide your preference. Just let her know. As for the location itself, there is typically plentiful parking and easy access. My husband gifted me a 120 min Thai massage for mother's day. Nothing says love more than a small Thai woman standing on your back. Theyre located next to Cheung Hing which somehow I've never noticed before. But there's tons of parking as it's a good sized lot, so at least I don't have to worry about trying to parallel park. The space inside is really nice too. You're asked to remove your shoes before entering further for your appt. Their bathrooms are clean, the space you're in is beautiful and clean and separated by heavy curtains. Before getting past the front door, you're asked to fill out a small form on what you want the masseuse to focus on, avoid, etc. She follows this as a guide during your appointment. Back were the days I slept on a futon, could fall asleep on the couch, or sleep on a friends air mattress with no issue...now I need the right mattress, different pillows (the one you get from the chiropractor), memory foam...and even MyPillow...yeah I bought one! Grrrr...too bad I still wake up occasionally with that kinked neck along with a headache. Blah! They ask level of pressure, trouble areas and have you mark a body chart so they know the areas to focus on. Major plus! Mr. T, my masseuse was very communicative throughout asking me if the pressure was right and to deeply inhale and exhale as he worked on areas.....as part of the Thai massage they stretch you like a pretzel (head facing left and you're pulled to the right) which feels odd at first but so good after. I had my appointment booked for a deep tissue massage. The ambiance was nice, clean and the music was soothing. As soon as I entered I was told to change clothes and get into the blanket. The masseuse came and started the massage. Initially it was fine but then I mentioned her to concentrate on my lower back as it was my problem area. But she continued on the upper back and shoulders and was too hard while I selected medium. Today when I woke up my muscles were soar and very painful. It's quiet, extremely clean, staff is very friendly, and the massages are always amazing. They're my local go-to spot so I was really bummed when I couldn't go there when I was pregnant. As I go through life, I find myself becoming more and more experimental. I have had a lot of massages before, but never a Thai massage. I went for it, the one hour Thai massage. I wasn't sure what to do, take off all my clothes, leave them on? I was handed a jumbo pair of monk pants. They told me to leave my underwear on and put on the pants. The setting is beautiful and tranquil. I laid down on the raised floor mattress bed. Ropes are hanging from the ceiling. The Thai massage is given with the feet. And so it began, she really worked her feet into me. There were times I wanted to cry for my mommy, but I knew the results would be amazing...and they were. I would not recommend it for people who cannot take pain, but if you can the outcome is incredible. I will be going back for sure. Especially before or after a golf game. read more

Great experience for thai massage here. Very strong masseuses and a lot of back and shoulder digging. The head massage was also very relaxing. We opted in for lotion and that felt great. First you lie on belly and the masseuse worked her way from the feet up. She used both her elbow and feet. Then you flipped and get head massage. Then you getstretching part at the end. My favorite place in the area for a really amazing Thai massage. Thai massage is different as they incorporate more stretching and acupressure then traditional massage but man does it feel amazing. Keep in mind this is not like swedish or deep tissue at all, thai massage compared to those are more painful/extensive so know what your getting into before going and complaining it hurt too much. The prices here are very reasonable and love that you can pay by card for the massage and tip. The service here is always friendly and great. Appointments are typically easy to come by as I've never waited longer then a day to get a massage, most of the time I've been able to go same day. Give them a call to set up an appointment, if they don't answer leave a voicemail and they are pretty good about getting back to you quickly. This place is great! With my weekly massage needs (see previous reviews) I researched what was nearby and found this Foster City gem close to where I work. I called (you can also text) and setup an appointment usually same day, sometimes not as they fill up pretty quickly. I've been there twice, and both massage therapists were great. I opt fo the Swedish massage, because I don't feel like doing acrobats with the Thai massage thing (no wonder it's cheaper, jk). You do dress up in these cute funny big pants and top, to be comfortable (can choose to wear them or not, depends on what you are ok with). The therapists are great, and you're in these tent style corridors...so not completely quiet. There's also a Thai restaurant next door and you can hear it pretty loudly around dinner time, so just FYI when planning to go. Otherwise very serene and zen-like. The only bad thing is that I got a horrid cold from one of the therapists once, but that was my fault as she was sniffling when started and I should have said something...lol. Definitely recommend if close to the area and looking for a well-priced, soothing and relaxing massage experience! read more

I had a groupon for 90 minutes of Thai Massage but the lady was super nice, she gave me the "aromatic" massage wow, thanks! With the aromatic massage, I got to choose what aroma of massage oil that I would like to use, there were like 6-7 diffferent kinds that you could sniff before you decide. The place is clean and surprisingly quiet! You removed your shoes when you entered the room and you got placed in a curtain separated small cubical for the massage session. The masseuse would step on your back and the pressure would be adjusted to your liking. I personally like deep massages and my female masseuse had really strong massage on my back loveee it! :) They gave you a T-shirt to wear and a loose pants. 1/2 way, I was asked to removed my shirt and she applied warm aromatic massage oil on my back, hmmmm smelled so good! At the end of the massage, the masseuse performed some adjustments, cracked my bones and all ..WOAAA felt so good! They also gave me a coupon for my next visit, thanks! Probably the best massage I've ever gotten. I've only seen her a few times, but had apparently left an impression. She knows me as the one who snored through the entire session. My muscles get very tight and I like my massages to be deep and hard. For such a small little lady, she's the one to give it to me exactly that way. I went to get my first Thai massage last weekend and WOW. I booked a 60 minute Thai massage. I went for "hard" and I definitely should have done "medium". It was intense, in a good way. I had a lot of knots in my back and in my calf and my masseuse definitely worked them out. I walked out pretty sore, but I knew it was for the best. The service was fantastic, the employees respectful, and my masseuse was very great (wish I got her name). The ambiance is clean, peaceful, and open. They have tea in the waiting room and ask you to take your shoes off :) They give you clothes to change into. Definitely recommend and am going to go back. read more

Before we entered the room, the front desk staff handed a sheet of paper asking which parts of the body needed the most work which later on I found wasn't really useful anyway as they asked me throughout the massage and obviously didn't read the paper. They massage you with their feet! So cool! I've only seen that it on t.v and thought it would hurt but I thought the pressure was great. Friendly staff, great, and cheap(er) massage than most places. I had initially gone in for myself because I had surgery and was in a lot of pain. I was recommended to get a massage low impact to kind of help me manage some of it. The massage was good but not great. I had indicated soft and medium on the worksheet they provide but felt the massage was extremely hard. The therapist also did not ask if that much pressure was okay. She did a great job, but I also did not know how to express myself by saying that it was too hard. I had a great experience but next time need to remind myself to be vocal. My husband went the next day as he also needed a good massage and loved it. We're planning our next massage here. read more

Be prepared for some deep stretching and for your tension to be released and relaxed! My first massage here was with someone who I felt wasn't as skilled. I didn't want to get her in trouble because she was very sweet, but I let the owner know privately that she probably needed a re-training. I was very touched of the owner's care and concern, and on today's massage, I'm happy to say that I will be re-booking here many times! We were so pleased with the traditional Thai massage experience, the price point, and the service. We asked for the one hour traditional Thai massage. As soon as you walk in you switch into slippers, get escorted into the back rooms were you change your clothing into loose massage Thai clothing, and you begin your massage experience. After the massage was over we changed into our clothing and we enjoyed some lemongrass tea in the waiting room. Good for Thai massage, but the deep tissue is just a Thai massage with a higher price tag. I'm not convinced the person I got a massage from was an actual massage therapist, and certainly didn't make any adjustments based on my explaining what needed work. Didn't follow the form I had filled out of what I wanted to work on. Too much language barrier. Kind guy, but got lippy when I wanted to make adjustments. Seemed hurried. Faster is not deeper. Getting a Thai massage is akin to getting beaten up. It was my first time getting this type of treatment and while I prefer painful massages, OH MY GOD this was excruciating! I opted for the 90 minute option and every single second of it was agonizing. I may have appeared to endure the pain like a champ on the outside, but I was definitely crying and struggling for breath on the inside. Despite the pain, the massage really worked! I walked in with tons of nasty knots riddling my entire body. A day after getting stepped on, my soreness had subsided significantly and I was feeling mobile again. My massage therapist was also very nice and I was impressed by her strength! Needless to say, I'll be back for more. The only thing I'd recommend to management is to please take away the wall clock in the massage room. Hearing the constant ticking while getting aggressively handled was like double torture. Wow, just wow. This review is for Tammy, I have returned to the Bay Area after a long week out of town and my whole body was aching more than the usual. My brother in law have recommended this place to me for over the past two years but I shoulda came sooner. The front desk was also very nice and the atmosphere is definitely different from what I'm used to. It's a Thai setting and you take off your shoes at the front before entering the quiet zone. You then change into very light and airy outfits on a nice floor mattress. Don't be mistaken by this description because it was very comfortable. I had a strained back a couple of months ago and have yet to find another therapist who can relieve this pain. Of course, she did not walk on my back but the service she provided was great. I'm glad to have found someone I can rely on to relieve my body aches. She did such a great job, I've decided to return to her regularly. read more

I have a very Athletic build. I've had hundreds of massages from many different places and many different styles. Thai massage is the most complete and affective massage for healing. It's as good or better than a sports massage. Now that being said. Ive tried many different Thai massage places and BUA Thai has the best people around. I've only ever received good massages. If you are an athlete, dancer, hardcore yoga practioner, I highly remmend Tee. The women here are great too and Thai massages proves its not about strength, it's about technique.
