This was my first time going to this spa. I have had many Swedish and deep tissue massages at many other spas, but I had never treated myself to a Thai massage. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Jesse, at the front desk. The atmosphere was tranquil and absolutely stunning in its decor. Most importantly, it was clean and well maintained. I met my massage therapist Summer. She was very sweet and welcoming. I had reserved a 90 minute Siam Deep Tissue Massage w/a foot soak, (before the masaage), and scalp massage (after my massage was done. Summer made sure to go over any questions, and what were my preferences on my body that I wanted her to devote more time massaging. She asked me what strength level I wanted to be massaged; mild, moderate, or strong. I chose moderate. Being this was my first time getting a Thai massage, I didn't want to go with strong, which I usually asked for at the previous spas. Moderate turned out to be the perfect level for me. Summer did check on how I was feeling, all throughout my massage. She listened to what I wanted and needed. After my massage, I was asked at the front desk, if I wanted some warm tea or water. This was a nice way to complete my massage experience. I have to say, this was one of the best massages I've ever had. The whole experience was relaxing and therapeutic. 4/5 Stars - Amazing First Massages, But the Staff Tension Was Hard to Ignore I want to preface this by saying that my boyfriend and I had never had professional massages before, and after yesterday, we both wish we would have done this sooner! Our appointments were at 5:00 PM, and the front desk seemed to be running a tad behind. Unfortunately, they didn't communicate the delay when we checked in. The lobby environment felt a bit stressed out; one of the hostesses was actually yelling, which definitely took away from the relaxation portion of the waiting experience. We were finally taken back to our rooms around 5:10 PM, at which point the staff acknowledged the delay and thanked us for our patience. Our masseuses arrived shortly after and started the session with a foot scrub that felt absolutely luxurious. We booked 1-hour Swedish massages. About 10 to 15 minutes into the session, our relaxation was interrupted by other masseuses shouting and arguing in the hallway. It lasted for what felt like a few minutes, and that lack of consideration is the main reason I'm deducting a star. People visit a spa to unwind, not to hear staff frantically screaming and yelling outside the door. That being said, the massage itself was fantastic. I wish I had noted my masseuse's name because she was absolutely amazing. She checked in consistently to ensure the pressure was exactly to my liking. I also loved that during check-in, they ask for your desired target areas. Working a desk job leaves my neck, shoulders, and forearms incredibly tense, and she did a phenomenal job focusing on those exact spots. They offer so many different types of treatments that we honestly can't wait to go back and try something else. I recently decided to take a random day off and was thinking about doing a massage when Yelp dropped a perfectly timed email about spa days. I thought I had clicked on the local spa highlights collection and the top 2 were Bay Area, when I realized I was in the Top 50 in the US collection! And Spa Siam Orchid was #2! I checked for available reservations on a Friday morning and very easily made an appointment for a 90 min Volcanic Stone Massage ($210+ tax and tip). I knew what to expect having read other yelp reviews - check in on an iPad and you get called for your massage. No associated saunas/hot room. I was offered water or tea at the start. When I was called and brought to my room, I was asked to change into a robe (masseuse left the room) and to start soaking my feet in a warm water bath - my masseuse Yumi did a nice, gentle scrub on my feet and then asked me to remove the robe and get under blankets (again leaving the room to give me privacy). I had asked for more attention to my upper back and shoulders, and requested medium pressure - Yumi definitely paid that attention to those areas and checked in with me several times to check that the pressure amount was suitable. It was soooo relaxing - nearly fell asleep! I had never gotten a hot stone massage and I'm not entirely sure how they normally go, but I enjoyed them when they were applied - the stones were smooth and if not for the temperature change, I don't think I would've been able to tell if it was stone or Yumi's strong but smooth hands. I did feel bruised later that day and the following day but that's pretty normal for massages for me. Overall, fantastic experience although a little pricey - a nice splurge every now and then! read more

My boyfriend and I visited Spa Siam last weekend for the first time and I will definitely be back. This location is in downtown San Mateo so parking can be a bit difficult especially on the weekends. Upon entering the establishment, the smell was so therapeutic. The receptionist greeted you immediately and got us checked in right away. They offered us some drinks from their mini bar. There's two floors here and they have massage rooms in both floors. The massage rooms were really cozy. I did their Soothing Balm Massage for one hours and my boyfriend did one of their deep tissue massage package. I enjoyed everything about my message except the part where my masseuse almost burnt my neck with the balm they were using. The reason why she almost burnt was because I had a necklace on and she was pressing the balm on my neck where my necklace was sitting. Heat and metal don't go together clearly and I kept on telling her it hurts but she kept on doing it. I would just hope they either ask everyone to remove all jewelry or be mindful of that cause it really hurt. This massage is more relaxing, which I enjoyed. My boyfriend also said he enjoyed his massage and got all the knots he wanted out. He did say he wished they spent more time on his feet but we would have to get a different package for that. Went to this place on a whim based on reviews. Got the Siam Ritual Special with medium strength, which was a foot scrub, full body massage, and scalp massage. My hubs and I both don't get massages often, so both Vivian and Natty out masseuses focused on our backs and upper shoulders. We both left in pain when their elbows dug into the curvature of our spines. Maybe we should've gotten soft massages. The foot scrub took up part of the time of the massage, so I'd skip this next time because it didn't seem to do much. The scalp massage was ~2 mins maybe? Ambiance: this place is beautiful. Someone definitely came through and thoughtfully designed every inch of this place. Definitely top 10 of the fanciest-looking/well-decorated bathrooms I've ever seen. I've had many different types of massages, so when she suggested I try a Thai massage, I said sure why not! I was escorted to the room by this friendly petite masseuse. Then she had me lay flat on my stomach and started the gentle massage I was expecting. Then she asked if she could step on my back? Ummm..this is different, but ok sure! Since we didn't work on Veterans' Day, and my husband had a recent birthday, I decided to make the day our couples massage day. Upon arrival, we were greeted and we filled out our intake forms. I got a deep tissue massage and my husband got the Sia Orchid Ritual. Once my massage therapist, LaLa, got started I knew that I should've booked a longer massage. Sixty minutes was not enough! LaLa's pressure was firm and perfect. I've always love Siam Orchid and always try to go with my husband to their Walnut Creek location for birthdays/anniversaries. This was our first time at the San Mateo location and we did a couple's Thai massage. The place was beautiful, spotless and just glamorous (not in the stressful kind of way though). First, we checked in at the front desk, filled out our info/signed the waiver on the iPads. Then we used the restrooms (which were beautiful with toilets that open by themselves and have seat warmers lol). Lastly, we were shown to the room where we would proceed to enjoy one hour of pure bliss. There are cubbies to put our things in, also hangers to hang shirts on, which was nice. The massage tables were heated and the pants were so comfortable that I really wanted a pair to take home for my daily wardrobe lol. Nice calming room, and they start you off with a foot rub. As it was deep tissue, I really wanted some extra pressure to get at the really bad spots. There were a few times when my masseuse was working on my back where she'd accidently roll over the muscle really hard as she came up my shoulder blade and over to my shoulder. I can't explain how amazing this place is! My husband and I have been coming here since they first opened! I always request for Tara and my husband would always request for Cherry! They are AMAZING! Tara always read where I need more attention and would always focus on the areas those areas, specifically my lower back, neck and shoulders! She found knots in my shoulders where I didn't even know I had and she did an amazing job relaxing that knot! My husband always feels so relaxed afterwards, because Cherry is always tentative and focuses on where he would want more focus on. I would always hear her ask my husband if the pressure was okay and both Tara and Cherry always tell us to tell them to let them know if we're uncomfortable. They're very sweet! We would drive 40 mins just to go here! Although there are other Thai Spas in our area, and they're cheaper, we would always prefer driving further and paying more for the best and relaxing massage! Everyone is so welcoming, you're greeted with water or tea and once your massage is done, you will also be offered tea or water and be given snacks! It's a very clean environment! Although pricey, it's well worth it! One thing I would note though, their complimentary snacks do change, from cookies, chocolates, even ube cookie (delicious btw) and this time it was trail mix.
