I have a tendency to hold stress deep within my body. Kai is one of the few massage therapists who can actually unfurl all my knots, from the base of my skull down to my toes. She is, as other reviewers have noted, deceptively strong (she's tiny) and has an excellent knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. I've been to many massage therapists in the past who either provide a very relaxing massage (but don't work the muscles deep enough) OR knead the knots in any direction with all their strength (which just makes any existing back pain worse). Best massage that I have ever had in my life! I was lucky enough to find this place on Yelp and was impressed by the fantastic reviews. So, I had to try it out since I have been looking for a go-to massage therapist in the area and have not been able to find one to my liking. I've been to a bunch of different local massage spots, but I feel like there is a lot of turnover for massage therapists so I could never get consistency with the massages that I have received. Kai did not disappoint. I usually like really strong massages, but she suggested that I go medium for my first time and it was perfect. My body is all banged up from running every day. I would like to up the intensity of the massage once I get a few more knots/tension worked out of my body and I acclimate. Kai is really deceptively strong for a little lady and knew exactly what parts of the body to work. I am definitely coming back and would love to make bi-monthly thing if not more in the future. I tried calling this place several times & nobody ever answered the phone. So, I drive from my house over 40 minutes away & upon arrival I was told you have to call @ make an appointment. Unbelievable!! It was wonderful :) Yok Thai Massage was able to get me in last minute and the masseuse was great. She addressed all my knots and was able to work them out with no pain, it's clear she's a pro. She checked in to make sure the pressure was good and when I asked for a little more she didn't overdo it and start breaking me, as some therapists do. The studio was really lovely; appointed with nice decorations, light fragrance, soft linens, gentle lighting, and a warm massage table. Just had my massage therapy session yesterday. Time to update my review! Still trekking out to San Mateo from SF to see Kai after all these years! Kai is absolutely an amazing and wonderful massage therapist! Wouldn't know what to do with my chronic migraine and body pain without her! My usual is the 2-hour combo massage. This is done on the table, clothes off with oil. My session is tailored to my needs so it's a combo of long relaxing strokes with deep tissue and trigger point therapy. This allows me to first relax and snore a couple of times before it hurts so good to iron out my tight knots. The session ends with light back stretching and head massage. (You can tell her where you want to focus and level of massage strength for your comfort) I have come to fall in love with Kai's cozy and intimate studio. I love that there is no informal check in with the front receptionist. As soon I step into the studio, Kai is there to greet me and the whole place is mine to unwind. The space is small but extremely clean and zen. The music and sound of the indoor water fountain and the dim lit lights are just right! And the lemongrass scented hot towels at the end are heavenly! (There are water bottles, hot tea and also small treats :) for you to indulge at the end of the session) Tips: I always text her for appointments but I believe one can also book online. read more

I have experienced massages for 25 years, having tried all methods, and I can say without hesitation that Kai is the best. Her intuition to know exactly where to focus and heal the body cannot be learned, it is gifted. I have gone to her for deep tissue, thai, and more recently, cupping (which she also combines with deep tissue. You can do a quick google search on all of its benefits). Her pricing is fair, and allows one to come back for multiple treatment. She is not about gimmicks, but about healing and therapy. Great massage. Had a 90-min combination of deep tissue and thai stretching and foot reflexology added on. For a stiff body it was perfect. Kai adapted and focused on areas that were tight. I was told about Yok Thai Massage by a friend and gave it a try even though I live about 40 minutes away. I can also get a great massages in the town in which I live. I gave it a try and I have been back 4 times. My massages ended when the practitioner, Kai, could feel that every muscle in my body was relaxed (every massage has gone over my allotted time and Kai had no plan to charge me). Her massage skills long surpass any massage therapist I have had. She is able to get into the deep tissue and relax it without it being painful. I have not returned to my local massage therapist, the 40 minute trek is definitely worth it. read more
