We enjoyed a fantastic chocolate filled croissant and latte at Bubo. We stumbled in after visiting Santa Maria Del Mar (very close and beautiful church!). The presentation in this place is great -- we loved looking at all their desserts. The staff was very prompt and friendly. We celebrated New Years Eve here and the waiters/bartenders made it a night to remember. Our waiter (the guy from Argentina, not sure of his name) was so sweet and patient with us, considering how poor our Spanish is. We're in our early twenties and I guess it was obvious that we couldn't spend too much so when we asked for a good bottle of wine he brought us a decently priced one that was delicious. When we sat down on the terrace he explained that he might be putting some of the tables away but that we shouldn't take it as a sign that we needed to hurry, and told us to take our time, which I thought was so considerate of him. What a great waiter and a really kind guy. The bartender, Alba, was everything that makes a great bartender. She asked us to request songs we wanted to hear throughout the night and made us some great (strong) drinks. She made us feel like it was her mission to make sure we had a good time, which for me is what makes me want to come back to a bar again and again. We asked her for recommendations of good restaurants and bars in the area and she seemed really happy to give us a few suggestions that we're really excited to try. It's so great meeting such awesome and sweet people who make you feel welcome in a new place, and who seem so excited to share their city with you. So if you're looking for a nice atmosphere and good company on a night out, Bubo is definitely the place to be! read more

Bubo caught my attention with its funny name. Then it caught my attention when I read it was voted "best chocolate cake in 2004." 2004? It's got to have some standards right? We got a few macarons, a huge cheeseburger macaron for giggles, and a few cakes to try. I'm not usually a big fan of chocolate, but the chocolate cake was hands down the best I've possibly had. It had a nice, fluffy sponge cake in between the cream and there was some slight rasberry jam in there so it had a light chocolate taste. The texture isn't heavy unlike most American cakes and the cream was light and not too sweet. The other cakes were solid as well but definitely didn't beat the chocolate cake. The macarons were good but not amazing like Laduree or Pierre Herme. The huge cheeseburger macaron definitely was more for show than taste so I would skip that and stick to the cakes. Prices range around 4-6 euros for the cakes, reasonable for the quality and clean space. FYI, it is only takeaway at night. read more

This was by far, our favorite restaurant in Barcelona. Everyone raves about the desserts, which are as good as they say. But you also MUST go to the restaurant too. They take great pride in using only the freshest of ingredients, and it shows. The food was simply amazing. Get there early so you don't have to wait too long. There is outdoor seating between the bar and cathedral with guitar players, fire breathers, and other outstanding street performers coming and going. Sangria is a must. They hand make each glass with fresh oranges (see the pictures!). Best sangria in Spain. Then, as everyone else is suggesting, you must get dessert. The bar and dessert bar are technically in separate buildings but right next to each other. It isn't the cheapest restaurant in Barcelona. But considering the quality of food you're getting, it's 100% worth it. read more

Our favorite restaurant in Barcelona. It's a small, initiate place that serves the typical Spanish fare but re-imagined. It's well worth your time to stop by for a visit. Don't forget to go a few doors over to enjoy their fantastic desserts. It's another Bubo but just for desserts. We grabbed ours to go and ate them on the stairs of the church nearby while people watching. We had a great night. read more

great place to have brunch. right across the street of the basilica. their tapas are delicious. i ordered the egg with chorizo, patatas bravas, mushroom croquettes, coconut & brie croquettes 2 rounds of americanos, and a bunch of macarons and a chocolate cake. everything was delicious and its nice to just sit there and eat right next to the basilica. however, bums will bother you for money every now and again. which is everywhere in spain as long as you are sitting on the terraces. the desserts went really well with the coffee. the desserts were expensive, but the tapas are of decent price. highly recommended! read more

Bubo has a few tables outside the Basilica de Santa Maria Del Mar. You will almost miss their table if you don't look. We got a table at about 4:00 and ordered 4 sangria's. Waiter was friendly and we had a conversation about FC Barcelona and who his favorite player is. sangria was excellent however they don't serve pitchers as they have a special preparation with fruit on bottom of glass. It was delicious..almost as good as Arcano's but....it was expensive... €6 a glass. It was delicious but that's a lot of €. Want to try their desserts but am worried about sticker shock..we are staying a block away so I will go here again after saving up! A bonus is the church facade is beautiful and street performers will start performing right next to your seats. read more

Let me start by saying that my friends and I did not try any desserts, which may well be fantastic. We had a meal of unmemorable tapas. The croquetas were in the words of my friend "no bueno" (pasty and old tasting), the truffled egg was served in a soupy sauce in desperate need of salt, the mozzarella and tomato tapa was tiny and good, patatas braves were ok, but nothing to write home about. The location is great, the service fast and friendly, but the menu is really nothing For what they charge. If you stick with the dessert and coffee you will not be disappointed. The menu they offer is way to expensive for what they offer you. The menu consists of really small plates with hardly anything on it. Please don't let them choose for you. Bread, potatoes,...is not worth paying that much money for. I had so many better places in Barcelona with much better food and quality then bobo. Not sure why anyone have this place a good review. Order a beer and they automatically bring you the bigger, more expensive one, even though it's not listed on the menu and without question. Ordered a Sangria and it took about 10 minutes. They think it's stylistic to have it unstirred but basically you can't drink it that way because there is granulated sugar covering the bottom and you can stir it because of the small glass. Had the Patatas Bravas. Besides them being cold and them tasting so bad, we couldn't eat them because the potatoes hadn't been washed and ever bite tasted like gritty dirt. We ordered the Cocas which was likely made yesterday. Pastry was soft and the cheese was hardened on top. No thanks. My husband's sandwich was ok but how can you go wrong with bread and ham. Chose it among others that looked better because of it's high ratings. Soooo disappointed! read more
