Bubba Gump Review - Laguna Location Bubba Gump is a chain restaurant, and this location doesn't stray far from the formula. The main difference is its prime location--there's plenty of parking, and the restaurant backs right into the Laguna, which gives it a nice scenic backdrop. It had the potential for a relaxed dining experience, but unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. When I arrived, I was the only customer there, and oddly enough, they still weren't ready to open on time. You'd expect faster service with no crowd, but that wasn't the case. I ordered shrimp, which you'd think would be their specialty. Instead, they came out overcooked and rubbery. At that point, I was starving, so I powered through it, but it wasn't enjoyable. The outdoor seating looks inviting at first--right on the water, with a breeze and a view--but don't expect to sip a beer slowly. The sun hits hard, and your drink will warm up quickly. Unless you're drinking fast or don't mind a warm beer, it's not the most comfortable spot to sit and relax. Overall, the location has promise, but the execution misses the mark. With better food and service, it could be a go-to spot. As it stands, I wouldn't recommend it--especially if you're coming for the shrimp or hoping to enjoy a slow drink in the sun. read more

This was my first time at a Bubba Gump. It wasn't too bad. My goal here in Cancun is to search for the BEST shrimp ceviche in town. Although this place serves good ceviche it wasn't the BEST!!! I can't say I wouldn't visit another Bubba Gump in the future, I'll just say I'm in no rush to have it again. The staff was nice. I wouldn't recommend eating outside. While out shopping and sight seeing my family and I decided to grab lunch at Bubba Gumps. This was my second or third time eating at one of their locations. I ordered the shrimp tacos on corn tortillas. The tacos were really good, but the shrimp were a little on the oily side. I ordered the guava margarita on the rocks. It was honestly the best margarita I've had since I've been here. As a previous review mentioned beware they make you dance and shake the shaker for your margarita which is poured table side. Its crazy that my experience with this restaurant chain outside of Mexico has been horrid!!! When I saw the sign, I immediately thought NO, but my hotel food (which was all-inclusive) hadn't been that great. I seriously didn't want to invest any more money into this company after the way I was treated in Las Vegas (see my previous review AND stay away). After walking around all day and smelling a nice aroma, I stopped in. I thought I would grab a drink and see if there was any difference. Major Difference. Food was amazing (I ordered a platter after the folks at the bar shared s bit of theirs). Customer Service was top notch. I had pesos, and that worked out great because anywhere on the city if you use USD, they give pesos in change. Plus, they charge the conversion rate of the day. Whatever they tell you that is. The only reason we ate here was because most of the restaurants in the Hotel Zone only open up for lunch after 1 or 2 PM. We had just come in from a very long flight (24 hours) and were starving. This place was a complete dud. Food and service were a huge disappointment. There were four of us and the waiter got 2 out of 4 plates wrong. The waiter was also uninformed about their menu. My friend asked if the shrimps were served without their shell in the dish he chose and was told that they were, but he was wrong. When I checked in on Yelp, I was supposed to get a free cocktail, but the manager said that this offer was only available in their locations in the USA. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co was such a great place to go to when we were visiting Mexico. I was not sure how good it was going to be but I was proven wrong very quickly. Drinks were great and came in souvenir cups which was awesome. The food was SO good, hot and fresh. Fries and shrimp were perfectly crispy, and the corn fritters were full of flavor! This was my first time eating at a Bubba Gump restaurant. I really enjoyed it! I'm not a seafood lover myself, but I got the onion strings appetizer, the Texas Cajun chicken sandwich, and the speckled lemonade (which had unlimited refills). My bill came to around $24 USD, which I thought was a steal. In the states it's hard to get a nice meal that cheap (especially at a "touristy" restaurant). Among the group of 8 that I went with, everyone ordered something different and everyone loved their meal. Everyone also had plenty to take home for leftovers due to the good portion sizes. I was really looking forward to this restaurant. The one we went to in Miami was awesome. But this place did not live up to the Bubba Gump standard. Food was mediocre. It also seemed the host was rushing us to finish. He removed my husband's plate before he was finished, and reached for mine but I held onto it even though I was finished. The restaurant was not crowded and there were no lines, so I really don't understand his actions. The white couple who sat near us were there when we arrived and they gave an odd look when they saw the host appearing to rush us out. The only other customers I saw were a Mexican family who were also there when we arrived and were eating leisurely. I told my husband let's go, because I did not enjoy the feeling I was getting. The good thing about Bubba Gump's is that it's pretty consistent no matter where you go. We had two hours to kill in the airport so decided to pay a visit for lunch. Our waiter Noel was very friendly and understood our requests. In my meal I subbed out fries for mashed potatoes and that worked. I also asked about soda options. He said can or a cup that's a bit more but refillable. That option wasn't on the menu so I took it blindly. Had I purchased each soda, would've been 51 pesos, but this refill option ended up being 104. Seeing as I only had two, I lost out on the deal and elected not to pay extra to keep the cup. They take the license plate direction signs very seriously here. More so than any location I've ever visited. That's what they're there for. It's just interesting that the management here really wants them used. It does make for an expedited and peaceful experience. We ordered some garlic bread as an appetizer. Nothing special. Doubt it was fresh. She ordered a bottle of water and the calamari appetizer as her meal and that was a good choice. There was so much food that she couldn't even finish it. It was pretty good. It wasn't well seasond, but the breaded peppers were very good. I ordered the BBQ pork sandwich which I thoroughly enjoyed. Having recently moved to the south I'm in love with BBQ and eat it every chance I get. It wasn't amazing but was good for a chain in an airport. Very satisfying. Tip was not included and we added 18%. Again $60 us for lunch in Mexico seems expensive. If we were in Decatur we would expect this, however when you go to places that cater towards tourists, they charge prices they know you are comfortable paying. Came on a Monday afternoon, my last day of Cancun. There were barely people in the restaurant. Service was mediocre as I had to flag down a waiter. I ordered the speciality drink, Blue Hawaiian. Tasted like nothing but juice so asked for another shot. All the negatives were erased when I finally got my meal. The food was BOMB!! I had the new orleans shrimp meal. This eatery is located right next door to Outback Steakhouse which is also on the same grounds as the Flamingo shopping mall. This eatery is situated alongside the water which offers inside restaurant seating or outside seating on the patio deck with a water view. Upon entering the inside seating area, the host who was a male greeted with a welcome and smile. The waiter was pleasant in her customer service and offered seating right away, sharing memories of the Forest Gump movie and explaining the ordering process. Once the order was taken by the waiter, the food arrived about twenty minutes later. The prices here are a bit more than other American eateries. Drinks can also be pricy since this eatery is located in the hotel zone, eateries do tend to be more expensive. For two entree meals, an appetizer and two lemonades, the price was $49. The overall price did not include tip. Drinks were $6 and $9 in American dollars. During the meal, the server only came to the table once to follow up on the needs after the food arrived. The overall taste of the food was average. Nothing tasty about it and the service was below standards. With an overpriced menu, poor service and average tasting food, there is no reason for me to return. Really good shrimp in the sampler platter called run across America especially the spicy shrimp. I AM ALL ABOUT THE SAUCE and there's this garlic sauce that comes with it that is BOMB. The sampler comes with tortilla chips and some kind of artichoke dip which were alright.
