I was re-exploring Calgary's Chinatown today and strolled in to Bubble Waffle. The combos seem to be a nice deal on paper, and while the HK lemon tea and bubble waffle were refreshing and sweet, unfortunately the beef noodles were the worst I've ever had. Beef quality was a zero, and seemed to disintegrate into little particles after a bite, egg noodles had zero flavor and I had to ask for more hot chili sauce and soy sauce to taste anything - I just ended up not finishing it and went on to explore elsewhere. Street parking $4.50/hr, I won't recommend the savory food here but the waffle was really good.

laksa noodle soup, HK style milk tea, rice rolls

They have a noodle soup combo - you can choose your soups/noodles/toppings (+$1.50 for additional toppings) and one of their 4 HK style drinks. We got laksa and booooy we LOVED IT! So worth the price, broth was suuuuper rich and creamy, slight kick of spice, although the temp was too hot and we've burned our mouths multiple times trying to eat it LOL. Would highly recommend this soup base. ⁣ Their HK style milk tea was good! Strong tea flavor. Nothing special but not the worst we've tried. We got pearls (+$0.50) but would've been better without tbh. ⁣ ⁣ Rice cakes unfortunately we're disappointing & not worth $8.95. Yes it was a big portion, but the rice cakes weren't very soft, could've been steamed for longer. Not the biggest fan of the fish siu mai Great place to go if you're looking for a quick place to eat!

Being from Vancouver, Bubble Waffle Cafe is a familiar restaurant for cheap, good quality bubble waffle, build your own noodle soup, and other HK cafe items. Located next to Gong Cha in Chinatown, its the perfect spot to stop for some HK comfort food! For $12ish you can get a noodle soup with 2 toppings and a drink (my favourite is the HK style milk tea). For an extra dollar you can get bubble waffle (the best!!!). They have other items as well such as Hainanese chicken and rice, rice rolls, etc. Im very happy they opened in Calgary!

I really like this place! Its such a good option especially for lunch and their food is so reasonably priced. You can get a noodle soup or rice combo with A drink for $11.99. PLUS you can add an original bubble waffle for $1. ITS SO CHEAP! And you get a good quantity of food. I tried the laksa and szechuan spicy noodle soup and they were both good and flavorful! The lemon tea was also really refreshing and reminds me of the the boxed lemon tea drinks! The bubble waffle was also really good, soft, light but crunchy! I would totally come again and cant wait to try out their other stuff!!

As mentioned by some other reviewers, the noodle combo here is great. For 11.95 you get a customized bowl of noodles (2 toppings free, additional at 1.50 each) and a drink (pearls and jelly extra). I got the laska soup base + rice noodles with fish balls and lamb slices and everything was delicious. Also tried the salty chicken appetizer and the chicken rice, both were great although the chicken rice could have used a bit more flavour. I was disappointed in the milk tea, it was a bit watery. Their bubble waffle was the best thing I tried - so fluffy and perfectly sweet, if you're visiting this is the one thing you have to try. Everything else is pretty average. For bubble tea you're better off going to Gong Cha or the Alley next door!

So happy that we have something like this in Calgary - build your own noodle soup by choosing soup base, type of noodle and 2 toppings. You get a free drink and bubble waffle for a $1 with the combo. For $13, that's not bad. The bubble waffle is one of the better ones in Calgary as it is light and not dense. I had the pepper fish and sour vegetable soup base... very tasty. Salty chicken nuggets also worth trying. Definitely worth coming back. Hopefully speed of service will improve as they become more efficient.

Silver Dragon offers a unique experience having some dishes not carried in the united States. And the prices were cheap. Everything is moving fast too especially with a group the knows what they want. I think it made it confusing to the cart ladies trying to listen to everyone speaking at the same time but they provided correct answers. Everything was well done and presented. We got shrimp and pork shumai, pork buns, baked pork buns, egg custards, short ribs, etc. All in all we picked up about 20 dishes. That came to about $200 Canadian dollars, about $137 American dollars. With prices like that the thought of moving to Canada is real. However, the cold winter snow prevents me entertaining that thought at length.

I'm not sure why. The siu mai was mushy. The har gow was okay. The beef rice noodle roll was tasteless. My wife didn't like it. The tofu skin roll (sin jook goon) was not very good either. We only ordered 4 dishes because what we ordered was not good. We didn't want to order anything else. The worst dimsum place in the San Gabriel Valley is better than this place. Not a fan of this place. They might be better for dinner? Non dimsum? Service was better than the food.

It's easy to not even know it's there, if you are traversing the Plus 15's between the two buildings -- you need to sidestep through the doors of "First Alberta Place," and it will be sitting in the back corner: one wall a soup and sandwich counter, and one wall a Chinese buffet. There's nothing here to "wow" you: hand written information on the wall. A pretty limited selection of sandwich toppings. Not a lot of variety of soups day to day. Scowls. And most importantly, they take cash only (I've been burned by this at the register once or twice when I forgot). But you can get a pretty damn cheap lunch here. Seriously -- for the longest time, the large soup was two bucks (or maybe it was even less)? On days where I forgot my wallet and thought I'd starve to death, Apple bailed me out with their two dollar soup (that much change inevitably kicking around my desk and amongst my pocket lint). And you serve the soup yourself, so you can make it as "hearty" as you wish (to hell with the stragglers showing up late -- they can have broth). I was there a moment ago, and soup has gone up to $2.65. It was around $2.00 in 2006 when I started going. Not a bad increase, and still plenty cheap. BLT's were $3.95 today You get the idea: cheaper lunch than what you can brown bag.
